The Lakes Water Bird was built in 1911 for E.W. Wakefield, of the Lakes Flying Company, Windermere by A.V. Roe, who would build aircraft to the designs of individual customers. It was built as a landplane with the intention of converting it to a seaplane once testing was complete. Wakefield had been interested in waterborne aircraft since 1909 and had performed experiments with different float designs towed at speed across Lake Windermere. This is a major Forest Tourist Attraction known as water- bird sanctuary, located not far from Chennai. Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary is a 30-hectare protected area located in the Kancheepuram District of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The best time to go is October–March, when cormorants, herons, ibis, storks, pelicans and other birds migrate here.

The little grebe is a small water bird with a pointed bill. The adult is unmistakable in summer, predominantly dark above with its rich, rufous colour neck, cheeks and flanks, and bright yellow gape. The rufous is replaced by a dirty brownish grey in non-breeding and juvenile birds. The Atitlán grebe (Podilymbus gigas), also known as giant grebe, giant pied- billed grebe, or poc, is an extinct water bird, a relative of the pied-billed grebe. It was endemic at the Lago de Atitlán in Guatemala at an altitude of 1700 m asl. It was described in 1929 by Ludlow Griscom based on a specimen collected in 1926 and had been overlooked in the past. American ecologist Anne LaBastille observed the decline of this species over a period of 25 years.

The Dodder is home to many water-bird species including mallard, grey heron, kingfisher, dipper, coot, moorhen, grey wagtail, common sandpiper, cormorant and mute swan; the sparrowhawk nests in the trees lining the riverbanks. The red fox is common along the riverbank and the badger and otter have also been seen. In recent years a small feral population of mandarin ducks has become established by the river. It was reported in 2013 that an Irish Wildlife Trust survey found otters living along the Dodder.

The Kaki Ponds are five small ponds north of the terminus of Marr Glacier in Taylor Valley, Victoria Land, Antarctica. They were named by the New Zealand Geographic Board in 1994 after a New Zealand water bird, the black stilt ( in Māori). They are mostly seasonally fed by meltwater from the Marr Glacier. While they are close together their chemical composition is quite diverse, and they play an important role in the water and salt geochemistry of the surrounding subsurface in the upper McMurdo Dry Valleys.

Small Prespa Lake in particular has been recognized as an important wetland ecosystems favoring breeding and feeding of rare water bird species. It is best known for hosting the largest breeding colony of the Dalmatian pelican in the world. Cameroon designated the reserve as a wildlife park for scientific purposes in 1971, Lake Tissongo, a lagoon connected to the south bank of the Sanaga river by a 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) tidal channel, is included in the park. 80% of the reserve is covered by tropical lowland equatorial forest, and 15% by Atlantic mangrove forests. A great auk, which may be the source for descriptions of the boobrie The boobrie is a mythological shapeshifting entity inhabiting the lochs of the west coast of Scotland. It commonly adopts the appearance of a gigantic water bird resembling a cormorant or great northern diver, but it can also materialise in the form of various other mythological creatures such as a water bull. A generally malevolent entity, the boobrie typically preys on livestock being transported on ships, but it is also fond of otters, of which it consumes a considerable number. In its manifestation as a water horse the creature is able to gallop across the top of lochs as if on solid ground.

Like the pelican water bird for which it is named, the concept aircraft can both skim over water and soar to heights above mountain peaks. It is also variously known as the Hawaiian common gallinule, Hawaiian moorhen, Hawaiian common moorhen, mudhen, or `alae `ula (“burnt forehead” - for its prominent red frontal shield) in Hawaiian, and sometimes misleadingly as the Hawaiian red coot. It is a subspecies of the common gallinule that is endemic to the tropical Hawaiian Islands of the north-central Pacific Ocean.

An announcement made on 19 April 2017 by Ian Hunter, the Minister for Sustainability, Environment & Conservation in the South Australian government described the conservation park as follows: > South Australia has proclaimed a new 1058-hectare conservation park at the > eastern end of Hindmarsh Island, within an area of wetlands that support > many threatened fish and water bird species. … The Lawari Conservation Park > supports three native fauna species of national conservation significance, > and a further 30 fauna and one flora species at the state level, including > the Far Eastern Curlew and Cape Barren Goose. The conservation park is located within the boundaries of the Ramsar site known as the Coorong and Lakes Alexandrina and Albert Wetland and shares a boundary with the Coorong National Park on its south-eastern side. The conservation park is classified as an IUCN Category III protected area.

The white-shouldered ibis is a solitary breeder; and in its stronghold of Cambodia, it nests December–April during the mid- to late dry season November – May in dipterocarp tree canopies. This breeding strategy is an exception to the common breeding strategies of sympatric water bird species, which nest in the wet season or from the late wet to mid- dry seasons. However, the white- shouldered ibis's dry-season breeding in Cambodia is probably timed with water drawdown in seasonal pools because of high density of its amphibian prey taking refuge in the cracks in desiccating mud at pool margins; thereby leading to high food availability for chicks and breeding adults. Different breeding seasons have been reported elsewhere in its range; with February–March in Myanmar when it still persisted here, September–December in East Kalimantan, and late August–December in Borneo; with copulation observed in February in this region.

In 2014, its season opened with the Boston premiere of Korngold's "grandly gorgeous, melancholy masterpiece," Die tote Stadt, in a production praised for its "precision, force, and tone chemistry";. The company also put on two one-act, one-singer operas by Dominick Argento (Miss Havisham's Wedding Night and A Water Bird Talk), as well as Tobias Picker's children's opera Fantastic Mr. Fox, an adaptation of Roald Dahl's story, which was produced in collaboration with Boston Modern Orchestra Project. It completed the 2014/15 season with The British Invasion, a festival of nine British operas: Vaughn Williams's Sir John in Love, Sullivan's The Zoo, Walton's The Bear, Thomas Adès Powder her Face, Britten's Phaedra, Bennet's Ophelia, Berkely's Four Poems of St. Teresa of Avila, Weir's King Harald's Saga and Maxwell-Davies's Eight Songs for a Mad King. Its 2015/16 season began with the "enthusiastically cheered" Boston premiere of Massenet's Le Cid at the New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall.

Of the possible means of transport by wind, water, bird or human agency, the authors dismiss immediately scenarios involving dispersal by wind or via bird droppings as wholly implausible: the seeds of Datura metel are not only heavy but also lack any specialised adaptation to wind dispersal such as a wing or a pappus, and the fruits of Datura are not juicy berries which invite consumption by birds [unlike those of, for example, the bird-disseminated Atropa]. The authors settle upon transport by water as by far the most likely mode and, of the two scenarios involving water, human-mediated transportation being the more probable,Renner S., 2004 Plant dispersal across the tropical Atlantic by wind and sea currents; Int. J. Plant Sci. 165 23–33 although not ruling out a scenario whereby the buoyant fruits (and seeds possibly remaining viable after prolonged immersion in salt water) of Datura might have been carried to India by ocean currents.

On occasion, individual owls, especially inexperienced juveniles, will become habitual fowl killers. These errant owls mainly hunt chickens, though will also take domestic guineafowl, turkeys and anything else available. In general, chickens kept in locked cages with enclosed tops overnight are safe from great horned owls; not so chickens left free range or in open enclosures. While galliforms are widely reported, the few cases where great horned owls locally turn to birds as the primary food source over mammals, these may often be local responses to the abundance of breeding water birds or concentrations of roosting water birds, since they tend to roost in relatively open spots. They have been known to predate more than 110 different species of assorted water bird. In prairie wetlands of North Dakota, avian prey, primarily represented by ducks and the American coot (Fulica americana) came to represent 65% by number and 83% by biomass of the diet of the local owls, also including secondarily grebes, smaller rails and shorebirds as well as upland-based species like grey partridge (Perdix perdix), sharp-tailed grouse and passerines.
