In martial arts, a waster is a practice weapon, usually a sword, and usually made out of wood, though nylon (plastic) wasters are also available. The use of wood or nylon instead of metal provides an economic and safe option for initial weapons training and sparring, at some loss of genuine experience. A weighted waster may be used for a sort of strength training, making the movements of using an actual sword comparatively easier and quicker. Wasters as wooden practice weapons have been found in a variety of cultures over a number of centuries, including ancient China, Ireland, Iran, Scotland, Rome, Egypt, medieval and renaissance Europe, Japan, and into the modern era in Europe and the United States.
Over the course of time, wasters took a variety of forms not necessarily influenced by chronological succession, ranging from simple sticks to clip-point dowels with leather basket hilts to careful replicas of real swords. Used commonly in the modern historical European martial arts community, the term refers to wasters fashioned to resemble western European weapons like the longsword or arming sword. Historically, the term "waster" was used in English to refer to cudgels or clubs used as weapons, in addition to wooden swords. The increasingly popular historical martial arts reconstruction groups, as well as the live action role-playing and renaissance festival groups, have provided an ample market for commercial waster retailers.

Wasters are not without their faults. The all wooden construction usually makes wasters somewhat lighter and differently balanced than steel weapons. The difference of material properties between wood and steel creates a difference in performance when training and sparring. The wood wasters tend to recoil from strong contact with other wasters as may occur in a strong parry or absetzen, a phenomenon colloquially referred to as "waster bounce".
Different specimens of wood, even of the same variety, are not necessarily identical in performance, and may display different characteristics during use. Wasters generally contain many of the same parts as swords, though lack many of the minor aesthetic details. Here, the major parts of a typical longsword are labeled on a superimposed image of a modern-day waster. The blunted pommel, cross, edges, and tip are safety features.

She was a proponent of the Aesthetic movement, and after a lengthy written correspondence met the movement's effective leader, Walter Pater, in England in 1881, just after encountering one of Pater's most famous disciples, Oscar Wilde. Her open resistance against World War I and her work Satan the Waster led to her being ostracized by the younger generation of scholars and writers. Feminist research led to a rediscovery since the 1990s. Much of her incoming personal correspondence are preserved in Somerville College Library.
Because of the ongoing conflict in Yemen, and resulting displacement of people who do not have adequate food, waster, housing or sanitation, pre-existing conditions are exacerbated. Shortages have been made worse by naval and air blockades. Bombing has damaged water and sanitation infrastructure. Airstrikes have destroyed facilities in the country for health care; "half of the nation's hospitals have been either destroyed by Saudi airstrikes, occupied by rebel forces, or shut down because there are no medical personnel to staff them".
All About Soap's Morgan described Mel as Phoebe's "waster mum" who would "rather focus on entertaining her grubby clients than look after her daughter". She branded Mel's introduction as "a stroke of genius on Hollyoaks' part" because it explained why Phoebe is the way she is. Morgan concluded that there is no real relationship between the two and Phoebe would be better without Mel in her life. In November 2013, Gill revealed that Rydal had filmed more scenes as Mel.
A true waster, the dussack was made almost entirely of wood (in all but one known case) and acted as safe and cheap training weapon. The weapon's unique shape did not lend well to the replication of traditional cruciform-hilted swords like the arming sword or longsword. Instead, the dussack resembled the großes Messer or "great knife", a weapon found more often amongst the common people than longswords, the cost of which allowed only relatively wealthy individuals to purchase them.

Gerstmann thought the frame rate occasionally affects gameplay and speed but said the game is mostly stable. Ian Dransfield of Play praised the game's replay value and multiplayer functions, saying; "It's the sort of game you’ll find yourself coming back to again". David Meikleham called Wipeout 2048 balanced difficulty consistently excellent, praising its long campaign as "surprisingly hefty" and not an "on-the-go time- waster". Although Wipeout 2048 gameplay was mainly well-received, its long loading times were criticised.
The Martian Way was Asimov's response to the McCarthy Era and an early exploration of terraforming Mars. Asimov's distaste for the anti-Communist campaigns of McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee was expressed in his portrayal of John Hilder's anti-Waster campaign. Asimov wrote in his autobiography that he expected to be either lionized or condemned for his attack on McCarthyism, but the story actually generated no reaction at all.Asimov, Isaac, In Memory Yet Green, Doubleday, 1979, , pp.
Janeway Lambda one was panned by television critics. The A.V. Clubs Brandon Nowalk viewed Janeway's holonovel as unsuccessful, and called Lord Burleigh a "holographic Irish bodice-ripper stereotype". In his book A Critical History of Doctor Who on Television, John Kenneth Muir compared the show's allusions to Jane Eyre to those shown on the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. Muir criticized the holonovel as "essentially a time-waster" that "serves no dramatic or character purpose except to enlighten the viewer that Janeway likes Victorian novels".
Serving Sara was universally panned, receiving extremely negative reviews from critics. The site's consensus states: "A romantic comedy that's neither funny nor particularly romantic, Serving Sara is a forgettable time waster.".
Wooden practice swords have been in use since the Late Bronze Age, with an original sword found on Orkney's Mainland in Scotland still in existence at the National Museum of Edinburgh. A similar find in Ireland adds historical backing to the Irish myth, the Tain, in which the use of a wooden training sword is mentioned. Egyptian soldiers practiced a sort of sport fencing using blunt sticks as a sort of primitive waster. The Romans used a form of wooden sword, the rudis, for combat training.
" However, as with their debut album, both Hook and Sumner were unhappy with Hannett's work. Peter Hook later complained that the track "Atrocity Exhibition" was mixed on one of his days off, and when he heard the final product he was disappointed that the abrasiveness of his guitar part had been laden with effects and toned down. He wrote; "I was like, head in hands, oh fucking hell, it's happening again. Unknown Pleasures number two ... Martin [Hannett] had melted the guitar with his Marshall Time Waster.
He was also renowned for his problems with the tax man, stemming from the fact that he never seemed to pay any. This was an unfortunate fact that he turned to humour in his stage act. Bobby made recordings of three comedy songs written for him by local composer Eric Boswell: You Little Waster, The Golden Voice of Bobby and When I Was A Lad. The songs incorporated jokes from Bobby's act and When I Was A Lad was even released as a single locally.
A spoil tip is a pile of accumulated overburden that was removed from a mine site during the extraction of coal or ore. These waste materials are composed of ordinary soil and rocks, with the potential to be contaminated with chemical waster. Spoil is much different from tailings, as it is processed material that remains after the valuable components have been extracted from ore. Spoil tip combustion can happen fairly commonly as, older spoil tips tend to be loose and tip over the edge of a pile.

As described in a film magazine, the Brat (Nazimova), a chorus girl known by no other name, is discharged from the Summer Garden chorus when she refuses to submit to the advances of Stephen Forrester (Foss), a young waster. He follows her down the street and quarrel ensues, after which she is arrested. At court she is found by MacMillan Forrester (Bryant), her prosecutor's elder brother, who is a novelist in search of an underworld character to study. The judge allows her to go to his home to live for that purpose.

Variety critic Richard Kuipers, who reviewed the film at the 2006 Pusan International Film Festival called The Victim "an entertaining and suspenseful merger of ghost story and crime thriller", and praised the "neat back-flip" of a mid-film twist. Jeff Allard, writing for the horror- genre website, Shock Till You Drop, was more muted in this response, saying the film "is a moderate time waster that sports its share of interesting moments but thanks to a convoluted script, it can't deliver the cumulative effect that a good ghost story needs."Allard, Jeff. The Victim, Shock Till You Drop.
Excavated waster piece The Shanglin Lake Yue Kilns () are a cluster of archaeological sites where Yue ware was made, though they are by no means the only ones. Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times called the film "inane" and "contrived," and wrote that "it feels like someone planted about a half-dozen different scripts all over this Fantasy Island." Peter Travers of Rolling Stone gave the film zero out of five stars, writing, "If crimes against cinema merited prosecution, Blumhouse's Fantasy Island would go directly to death row...The only genuine, blood- curdling scream incited by this stupefyingly dull time- and money-waster comes at the end, when the notion dawns that [the film] is meant to spawn sequels. Stop it now, before it kills again." Peter Sobczynski of RogerEbert.
It is for those reasons strong cuts or thrusts to unprotected body parts during sparring may lead to significant blunt force injuries (with the wooden weapon acting like a bludgeon). Modern historical martial arts reconstruction organizations, including the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts and the Chicago Swordplay Guild use wasters as the primary training tool of new practitioners. Wasters are used to learn, practice, and later spar with a variety of techniques including cuts, slices, thrusts and wards. During flourishes, a waster may be substituted for a blunt sword, especially if a lack of experience is a concern.
For Cockney sisters Sharon Theodopolopodous and Tracey Stubbs, life is never the same again when their husbands are convicted of armed robbery and sent to prison. Her marriage to Chris, a waster of Greek Cypriot descent, was miserable and childless, supposedly due to Sharon's infertility.

Green attended Emerson College for one semester in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2002, the Moldy Peaches went on hiatus, and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers. Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and in the UK, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster". "Jessica" (#63, 2004) and "Emily" (#53, 2005) both appeared in the UK Singles Chart.
He wrote that this "next great iPad game" was already one of his mobile favorites, and is set apart from others by its "style" and "achingly beautiful" mountain landscape. Webster found Alto's Adventure to be part art game and part "fun little time waster", and compared it to a combination of Sword & Sworcery and Tiny Wings. TouchArcade Jared Nelson likened its art style to Journey and its gameplay to Ski Safari. While he did not find the game challenging, he enjoyed the "incredible" visuals: "tons of tiny details", like the character animations and changes in lighting and weather, contributed.
The document proposes an absolutist theory of monarchy, by which a king may impose new laws by royal prerogative but must also pay heed to tradition and to God, who would "stirre up such scourges as pleaseth him, for punishment of wicked kings".Croft, pp 131–133. Basilikon Doron, written as a book of instruction for the four-year-old Prince Henry, provides a more practical guide to kingship.Willson, p 133. Despite banalities and sanctimonious advice,A king, James advised, should not look like "a deboshed waster" (Croft, p135) and should avoid the company of women, "which are no other thing else but irritamenta libidinis" (Willson, p 135).
The game received mixed reviews from critics, and holds an aggregate score of 74/100 for the PS4 version on Metacritic. Colin Moriarty of IGN rated the game 74/100, calling the game "unapologetically old-school" and a "fun time-waster", though he criticized the fact that it didn't attempt to break any new ground. Wesley Copeland of Pocket Gamer UK gave the game a score of 7/10, saying it still feels "fresh and inventive" despite its old-school design, and adds new twists to the Space Invaders formula. The 3DS version of the game received lower review scores, with an aggregate score of 64/100 on Metacritic.
In the 1960s and 1970s, after moving out of teaching, he published his first Geordie dialect book, Larn Yersel Geordie, which became the definitive work on the dialect. This was followed up by several more books in the series. They were definitely not "politically correct" but yet full of wit and humour. His materials were also much used (together with songs from Eric Boswell) on the BBC's Geordierama, a radio programme and later an annual stage show as part of the Newcastle Festival, which presented songs and sketches mainly in dialect and featured Mike Neville, George House and guests including Bobby "The Little Waster" Thompson and Dick Irwin.

By September 2013, 200,000 users were announced to have enrolled for the game. During the 2013 WebMoney Awards, Kingdom Hearts χ was among the games voted into the "Best Rookie of the Year Good Games" category, with most voters praising the game for being accessible to series newcomers, and fun to play. Richard Eisenbeis of Kotaku was generally positive, saying that despite it being similar to other Japanese browser games and using a micro-transaction system, it was "an enjoyable little time waster." Unchained was also well received, with Metacritic giving the game a score of 70 out of 100 based on 5 reviews.
Carphone Warehouse staff nominated around 1,000 apps from which a panel of judges produced a shortlist of 50, announced by Hammond in February 2011. In an online process, about 30,000 votes were cast by the public to choose the winners. Most of the shortlisted apps are free to download but others require a one-off or an ongoing payment. Finland-based Rovio Mobile's 2009 game Angry Birds, which recently passed the 100-million download mark, won the award for Best App of the Year along with a win in the Best Game App category and a nomination in the Best Time Waster App category.
GQ Time Waster of the Day In response to the success of the online comic, Nicolle was approached by several comic publishers to print an Axe Cop series. With help of the Gotham Entertainment Group, Nicolle found that both he and Dark Horse Comics had the same level of interest in the publishing deal, and accepted their offer. Dark Horse published an ashcan copy of Axe Cop for the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con International, which included the first five episodes of the webcomic and some of the "Ask Axe Cop" strips. Dark Horse published the 3-issue Axe Cop miniseries "Bad Guy Earth" in the second quarter of 2011.
The album is the first material to be released by the group, who split up following a deterioration in the relationship between Pete Doherty and the other members of the band, since the single "What Became of the Likely Lads" in October 2004. The album contains no previously unreleased material, except for the iTunes edition. However, it includes non-album singles ("What a Waster" and "Don't Look Back into the Sun") and several b-sides ("Mayday", "The Delaney" and a rerecording of "Death on the Stairs") some of which were released as bonus tracks on various editions of the band's albums. The compilation itself had zero input from the band.
IGN praised the game's use of nostalgia for previous Final Fantasy games and fun combat and customization. However, they criticized its lack of character interaction and shallow story, which made it hard for the game to hold players' interest. Kotaku voiced a similar sentiment, calling the game a "fun time waster", but noting the presence of the "much loathed stamina scheme" used to entice players to pay for more play time. VentureBeat said that the crafting and combining of items and weapons was "actually fun", and felt like a real Final Fantasy game, but condemned the gameplay as being boring because it is mostly a "hands-off" experience.
Many of these shows were played with close friends The Libertines. Through his friendship with schoolmate John Hassall, at Highgate School, Borrell was involved in the early formation of The Libertines. He was present at the sessions for their debut album Up The Bracket and appears as a character in songs, notably "Boy Looked at Johnny" and "Death on the Stairs", and also "What a Waster" which appeared as a bonus track on the album in Japan. In 2002 he went on to form his own band which played house parties, rehearsing at a Hackney warehouse called Unit 13, comprising Carl Dalemo, Shïan Smith-Pancorvo (later replaced by Andy Burrows) and Björn Ågren.

The singlestick itself is a slender, round wooden rod, traditionally of ash, with a basket hilt. Singlesticks are typically around in length, and in diameter , and thicker at one end than the other, used as a weapon of attack and defence, the thicker end being thrust through a cup- shaped hilt of basket-work to protect the hand. It bears approximately the same to the backsword as the foil to the small sword in being a sporting version of the weapon for safe practice. The original form of the singlestick was the waster, which appeared in the 16th century and was merely a wooden sword used in practice for the backsword, and of the same general shape.
Neither do I desire to live longer days than I may see your prosperity and that is my only desire. And as I am that person still yet, under God, hath delivered you and so I trust by the almighty power of God that I shall be His instrument to preserve you from every peril, dishonour, shame, tyranny and oppression, partly by means of your intended helps which we take very acceptably because it manifesteth the largeness of your good loves and loyalties unto your sovereign. Of myself I must say this: I never was any greedy, scraping grasper, nor a strait fast- holding Prince, nor yet a waster. My heart was never set on any worldly goods.
It uses 250 tonnes per hour in summer and 400 tonnes in winter of over 90 °C geothermal waste waster in a system of heat exchangers to heat water from the Waikato River to rear the prawns. People fish for prawns from a row boat at Huka Prawn Park The park offers activities such as prawn fishing, guided tours of the park, and an activity loop with a number of interactive water features. Visitors can make use of stand up paddle boards, pedal boats and an aqua trike to pedal over a pond full of prawns. Huka Prawn Park has become one of the major draw-cards for tourists to the Taupo region.
In a piece for The Atlantic, Ian Bogost wrote that its game, visual, and interaction design "embodied an elegant minimalism" akin to the Bauhausian aesthetic promoted by Apple. He added that Hundreds had cultural cachet "unprecedented" in the medium of video games and similar to that of other design objects—that the game was closer to Prada or a lobby bar than to Angry Birds. Bogost felt that it required an amount of attention unlike other "time- waster" mobile games, and referred to the precarious strategies required to complete some levels as a "multi-touch ballet". Edge thought the game to be "an astoundingly harmonious mix of art and design" and said its "simple premise" is "perfectly suited for a multitouch screen".
On 14 May 2017, Frampton was number two by the WBA at super featherweight, which indicated to many that he may be moving up to become a three-weight world champion. By the end of May, talks had begun for a fight against IBF champion Lee Selby. Frampton's promoter Barry McGuigan said the fight would happen, but may not happen next due to Selby having a mandatory fight due next. On 15 June, Frampton labelled Selby a 'time-waster' and announced that he would be returning to the ring in Belfast on 29 July against an unnamed opponent. Cyclone Promotions confirmed that Frampton would fight 23-year-old Mexican boxer Andrés Gutiérrez (35-1-1, 25 KOs) at the SSE Arena in Belfast in a WBC eliminator.
At the end of 2001 Reef played the Surfers Against Sewage Christmas Ball, in Bournemouth. They had previously played the SAS summer ball in 1995 in Newquay. In January 2003, their original drummer Greensmith quit the band on the eve of a major UK tour, and as the greatest hits were released. He was replaced by the relatively unknown Nathan Curran. Curran had also drummed for Basement Jaxx, Lady Sovereign and Gorgon City It was on this tour that the Live DVD was recorded at Bristol’s Carling Academy. Around this time Reef also appeared on the BBC's re:covered programme covering Black Sabbath’s "War Pigs", which appeared as a B-side to "Waster", Reef's last single, and their only single on the Snapper Music record label.
Famous for his broad Pitmatic (County Durham pit village) accent (often mistaken for Geordie), self-deprecating humour and mastery of the mother-in-law joke, Thompson was affectionately known as The Little Waster due to his short stature, which he often played on during his act, describing himself as 'Little Bobby'. His most famous outfit was a worn out stripey jumper (Wooly gansey) and flat cap. His ever-present Woodbine cigarette stub, hanging from the corner of his mouth, was also an integral part of his on-stage persona. His attempts to move beyond North East England were limited by his accent and the regional bias of his humour, although he did enjoy some success with the BBC show, Wot Cheor Geordie.
As indicated, the game can either be played with all the cards laid out or with the cards overlapping each other. As laying the cards out can be a space-waster, it is suggested to overlap the cards, covering each card half the way through and leave a gap (whenever it occurs) as it should when new cards are dealt; that way, when a gap occurs, it is easy to spot the available cards. Furthermore, according to Peter Arnold (in his book Card Games for One), it is generally a bad idea to release a card that is above a gap before its duplicate is dealt, unless it is necessary to free up an important card. The game is lost, he said, when the wrong card has been played.
" Conversely, Noel Murray of The Onions The A.V. Club graded "Snakehead" with a B+, explaining the focus on Walter was a "smart choice by the Fringe team thematically". Murray continued, "Ordinarily I'd be griping that this episode was yet another mythology-free time-waster, with a plot that—two-foot-long parasites aside—could be passed along to any other procedural show currently on the air. But I really enjoyed 'Snakehead,' both because of the way the story reflected who Walter is and because of all the little touches of character development and scene-setting. Though not appearing as depicted, the species is a real-world hookworm that infects a large number of Earth's population, which as said in the episode, has been used by some as an alternative treatment for asthma and other allergies.
Steel weapons do not display this attribute to the same extent, usually binding and sliding with minimal rebound instead. The use of wooden wasters is somewhat safe as it lacks a cutting edge, but does not equate a safer alternative to steel training swords. The use of wood with rounded edges prevents any cutting injury when sparring but because wooden weapons typically are typically thicker bladed (compared to flat steel training swords like feders) while being of similar weight to steel weapons, they impact much harder than the thin blades of steel training swords (whose weight is concentrated at the hilt rather than the thin blade, compared to the evenly weighted waster). In addition, because of the waster's strong wooden construction, it does not bend at thrusts like feders or some steel training swords.
I was a swot, and only recognised the poignancy of this cautionary tale long after when I read his [HG's] candid biography and learned that HG himself proved a waster and had too late realised with dismay that he was stranded. Hence his struggles, he became a tutor in biology, imbued pupil Amy with unorthodoxy, indoctrinated against marriage. They lived together without any quarrel with his wife, but ostracised by former friends and relations, so that when eventually his cousin got a divorce, against all their principles, they immediately married and through all his eccentricities and unfaithfulness she made him a dutiful efficient wife. 'His early writings in the Jules Verne tradition were written, he said, to gain popularity, and money so that he could let himself go later and give full expression to his freelove and Socialist ideas.
Monty does not work, however, because of any need for income; as he himself explains, there are "wheels within wheels". He is in love with Gertrude Butterwick but her father, named J. G. Butterwick in this novel (it'll evolve), feeling that his daughter should not marry some kind of a waster, requires Monty to hold down a job for a full year, and Gertrude, being an old- fashioned sort of girl of solid middle-class stock, refuses to elope with Monty. His time at Tiny Tots is brief, however, as he finds himself left in charge one day when the regular editor, the Reverend Aubrey Sellick, is away on vacation. His efforts at writing a piece for the "Uncle Woggly to His Chicks" column results in a swift and acrimonious parting between Bodkin and Tilbury's employ, and the hunt is on for new work.

Uriel was set to ward off the demonic host (or those beings deemed unworthy, or unprepared) that might profane the sacred precinct. Uriel, who "helped Solomon repel demons from the Temple," was that archangel who, as he did for Enoch but also for the prophet Ezra, acted as the "interpreter" of heaven-sent visions and books — an "illuminator of the mind." In the end times, it is said, Uriel will, in warning declaration, blow his archangelic trump to usher in the boiling, melting conflagration (Isa 64:2) set to accompany the coming of the 'Son of Man' to reign for a thousand years, then judge the world. The prophet Isaiah, speaking for the Lord of Hosts, declared: "Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work [of ingathering latter-day Israel; of defending God's elect against hostile or demonic powers]; and I have created the [archangelic] waster to destroy [in the cleansing inferno at earth's harvest]" (Isa 54:16).
"Was Edward the Black Prince really a nasty piece of work?". BBC News. In particular, he has asserted that the oppressive period of the Black Prince's rule, did not result, as had been generally accepted, the "great rebellion of 1353" (so called by Geoffrey Barraclough, second professor of Medieval History at Liverpool). Booth's work has influenced other medieval historians; for example his study of the Black Prince's state visit to Cheshire in 1353 enabled Professor Thorlac Turville- Petre to demonstrate that the Middle English alliterative poem Winner and Waster was based on the events of that year in Cheshire. Similarly, Professor Chris Given-Wilson has stated that Booth's research on the detailed working of the mechanism of Cheshire’s government in the 1350s and 1360s has made clear the unique roles of the prince’s two successive business-managers, Sir John Wingfield and Sir John Delves. Booth's research students have continued his work; for example, Andrew Tonkinson's monograph on Macclesfield in the later fourteenth century and the late Phyllis Hill's edition of the County Court of Chester Indictment roll, 1354 to 1377.
