Hyloxalus elachyhistus is a species of frog in the family Dendrobatidae. It is found in southern Ecuador (both versants of the Andes) and northern Peru, in the Huancabamba Depression and south to Cajabamba Province.

Tapping different architectural and urban sources, Benoit created in 2007 a series of canvas inspired by Los Angeles, CA, offering a kaleidoscopic nocturne vision of the city. This vision, entitled Sur la Trace des Versants OuestSur la Trace des Versants Ouest View on line was inspired by the composition Traces of the Western Slopes by the American musician and composer Rickie Lee Jones, co-written by Sal Bernardi (seventh track on Rickie Lee Jones' 1981 Pirates album). An over eight-minute-long epic, jazzy and symphonic composition, which explores the confluences of Jazz Fusion, Blues and Rock, Traces of the Western Slopes is generally considered one of Rickie Lee Jones's best works of all time.

Telmatobius niger is a species of frog in the family Telmatobiidae. It is endemic to the Andes of Ecuador, with records from both Amazonian and Pacific versants. Last seen in 1994, it is feared that this species may be extinct. Common name black water frog has been coined for it.

Damaging effects caused by floods and flooding have determined property damage, such as flooded homes (e.g. on 20 July 2002, the Păltiniș inundated homes in the area of the confluence with the Bâsca), landslides and slope destabilization of versants; destruction of undermining and hydrotechnical works, affecting sections of the roads and humans casualties.

The confusing poison frog (Ameerega maculata) is a species of frog in the family Dendrobatidae endemic to Panama. It is only known from its type locality, "Chiriqui" (which at the time of the description included both Atlantic and Pacific versants of western Panama). Its natural habitat is unknown but might be forest. It is threatened by habitat loss; it might already been extinct given the level of deforestation within the region of collection.

After studying and working in Vancouver, South Korea, and Turkey, he returned to Quebec permanently in 2007. Before his election to Parliament, Nicholls worked in a variety of fields: arts and design teacher, environmental researcher, ecological intervention adviser, registered landscape architect (AAPQ) and was a board member of COBAVER (Conseil des bassins versants Vaudreuil-Soulanges). To win his seat in the House of Commons, Nicholls defeated incumbent Bloc Québécois MP Meili Faille. He and Faille were friends in high school.

The Quebec Atlantic Salmon Federation said that the measures did not go nearly far enough in protecting salmon for future generations. In view of the rapidly declining Atlantic salmon population catch-and-release should have been implemented on all rivers apart from northern Quebec. In 2019 the Upper North Shore Watershed Agency (Organisme des bassins versants de la Haute-Côte-Nord) conducted inventories of the fish in the Laval River's tributaries.

Hydroelectric dam near the mouth of the Sault aux Cochons River in Forestville (upstream view). The Sault aux Cochons River has its source in Breault Lake, south of Pipmuacan Reservoir. It then flows in a southwesterly direction and crosses Sault aux Cochons Lake halfway through. It flows over a length of according to the Commission de toponymie du Québec or of according to the Organisme des basins versants de la Haute-Côte-Nord to flow into the St. Lawrence River at Forestville.. The fifteen kilometer downstream of Sault aux Cochons Lake is encased in a canyon.. The area of its watershed is .. The wetlands cover .. In 2003, a portion of the waters of the Sault aux Cochons River was diverted to the Pipmuacan reservoir by the Lionnet River in order to increase the capacity of the power stations Bersimis-1 and Bersimis-2..
