It may be contrasted with compounding (composition). Because compound words do not always originate from fixed phrases that already exist, compounding may be termed a "coercive" or "forced" process. Univerbation, on the other hand, is considered a "spontaneous" process. It differs from agglutination in that agglutination is not limited to the word level.

The name Grintovec is shared with several other settlements (e.g., Grintovec, Grintovec pri Osilnici, etc.). The name is derived from the Slovene common noun grintavec 'snowy/rocky bare area', 'dolomite', a univerbation of the phrase grintav (svet) 'empty area, rough area'. Simonič also suggests that the name could be derived from the plant field scabious (Knautia arvensis), known as grintavec in SlovenePetauer, Tomaž. 1993.

Its name is coincidentally identical to a univerbation based on the Slovene word sneg 'snow', but is actually a Slovenized form of the name of the noble house of Schneberg, whose possession it initially was. The Schnebergs were followed by the houses of Lamberg, Eggenberg, Lichtenberg, and Schönburg- Waldenburg.

Amarcord () is a 1973 Italian comedy-drama film directed by Federico Fellini, a semi-autobiographical tale about Titta, an adolescent boy growing up among an eccentric cast of characters in the village of Borgo San Giuliano (situated near the ancient walls of Rimini)Fellini Foundation in 1930s Fascist Italy. The film's title is a univerbation of the Romagnolo phrase ("I remember").Pettigrew, 76. Fellini elaborated further by suggesting that the Italian words ('to love'), cuore ('heart'), ricordare ('to remember') and amaro ('bitter') were contracted into the Romagnolo neologism, amarcord (a m'arcôrd, in Italian io mi ricordo).
