It is often served with seafood or meze. Malagos has received international recognition for its chocolate garnering seven major international awards as of 2017. At the 2015 World Drinking Chocolate Competition by the International Chocolate Awards in Hannover, Germany, the chocolate maker was given a silver award for its Malagos Dark Chocolate. Malagos has entered at the Academy of Chocolate Awards in London. It's unsweetened chocolate gave the company a bronze under the Best Unflavoured Drinking Chocolate in April 2015, and silver under the Drinking Category in 2016.

In Ecuador, aguardiente is also derived from sugar cane, but unlike Colombia, it is left largely unflavoured. It is then taken straight as shots, mulled with cinnamon (canela in Spanish) and fruit juices to make the hot cocktail canelazo, or mixed with the juice of agave masts and Grenadine syrup for the hot cocktail draquita. Locally or artisanally made aguardiente is commonly called punta, "puro" or trago, and alcohol content can vary widely, from "mild" puntas of about 10% to "strong" of about 40% or higher. The traditional distillation process produces aguardiente as strong as 60 g/L.

Punsch-rolls (punschrulle) Until the 1840s, punsch was typically served warm and created just before consumption: a sugarloaf was placed upright in a large bowl, hot water was poured over it to make the sugar dissolve, and arrack, unflavoured spirits and German Rhine wine were added. Still warm, the drink was then served in cups. Punsch is also used as a flavoring agent or to increase the alcohol content for glögg, the warmed Scandinavian mulled wine frequently associated with Christmas. On Thursdays, punsch is traditionally served warm as an accompanyment to Swedish yellow pea and pork soup (ärtsoppa) and pancakes.
