Last year as a freshman, Nichols was a three-time All-America and a co-national champion on the uneven parallel bars.

In the past, the uneven parallel bars were closer together. The bars have been moved increasingly further apart, allowing gymnasts to perform swinging, circling, transitional, and release moves that may pass over, under, and between the two bars. At the Elite level, movements must pass through the handstand. Gymnasts often mount the uneven bars using a springboard or a small mat.

Elste's Olympic opportunities were delayed by World War II, when the Games were cancelled in 1940 and 1944, but in 1948 and 1952 she was well-prepared to compete. In national AAU competition, Elste won the uneven parallel bars in 1947, the floor exercise in 1949, and the balance beam in 1952. She was selected nine times for All-American honors by the AAU.

United States Olympic book 1980, United States Olympic Committee, p. 141,"She approached the apparatus with the aplomb and poise of a gymnast several years her senior. Every move Davydova made on the uneven parallel bars was the move of a champion, a queen of all gymnasts". A minute after she had left the podium her score came up – 9.95.

She was a three- time All-American champion on the uneven parallel bars and finished second in the National Championships in 1981. She led her University of Utah teammates to their first national AIAW championship in 1981. In 1981, at age 22, she joined the first U.S. Professional Gymnastics Classic. On the first day of the tour, she over-rotated while landing a vaulting horse move and landed on her neck, sustaining an injury that left her paralyzed from the chest down.

Gadusek started a career in gymnastics, training for the 1980 Olympics, but fell from uneven parallel bars and landed on her neck, dislocating two vertebrae. While recovering from her injuries, she took up tennis as part of her therapy. She played in her first junior tournament wearing a brace. She was named Junior of the Year in 1980 and Player of the Year in 1981 by the Florida Tennis Association. She won the 1981 French Open girls’ singles championship. Gadusek played on the WTA Tour from 1981 to 1987.

On the other hand, if the gyroscopic effect of rotating bike wheels is cancelled by adding counter- rotating wheels, it is still easy to balance while riding. One other way that a bike can be balanced, with or without locked steering, is by applying appropriate torques between the bike and rider similar to the way a gymnast can swing up from hanging straight down on uneven parallel bars, a person can start swinging on a swing from rest by pumping their legs, or a double inverted pendulum can be controlled with an actuator only at the elbow.

Raquette Lake has tennis courts, sailboats, wind-surfers, kayaks, canoes, power boats (including Ski Nautique water ski and wake-board boats), plus hardball diamonds, a batting cage, soccer and lax fields, basketball courts, and volleyball courts. It has a gymnastics gymnasium with balance beams, mini-tramps, spring boards, sets of uneven parallel bars, vaulting horses, mats, a Tumble Trak and a springboard floor. Indoor recreational facilities include a social hall, theater, Arts and Crafts center, a jewelry-making studio, a separate ceramics facility, and a gymnasium. A ropes challenge course provides different high and low elements, including zip lines, and a three-sided climbing wall.

Had she managed anything above a 9.681 average (easily attainable for her with her 9.9 valued vault) she would have won the AA silver behind Lilia Podkopayeva of Ukraine. And while she placed into three separate Event Finals, she had no better fortune there, finishing fourth on the balance beam and fifth on uneven parallel bars and floor exercise, all three of which she was considered a potential medalist on. Had she duplicated her beam performance from any of the earlier rounds she would have managed at least the silver medal, as her previous lowest optional beam score was a 9.825.
