When Tyke is introduced, Spike is given a softer approach (mainly towards his son) and is kinder and less aggressive, but is still portrayed as a dumb animal on more than one occasion. Spike's love and affection towards Tyke becomes Jerry's newest weapon against Tom, as his strategy goes from luring Tom towards Spike to inflicting harm on Tyke, and even when it is perfectly obvious that Jerry is responsible and not Tom, as seen in Love That Pup. Spike fails to notice this and still blames Tom (although this can be partially due to Spike's dislike of Tom). Spike would continue to appear in Tom and Jerry full-length features released in the early 2000s and finally, Tom and Jerry Tales.
Spike and Tyke are fictional characters from the Tom and Jerry animated film series, created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Spike (who goes by different names in a few episodes - Killer for four episodes, Butch for two episodes, and Bulldog for one) is portrayed as an American bulldog, who is generally friendly and amiable, and a loving father to his son Tyke in several episodes. However, Spike's character also has a very stern, and fierce side, for occasions such as when he is defending his son Tyke. Spike made his first appearance in the 1942 Tom and Jerry cartoon Dog Trouble, and his first speaking role was in The Bodyguard (1944), where he was voiced by Billy Bletcher.
Spike was voiced by Bletcher until 1949, from which point he was voiced by Daws Butler, with a thick New Yorker accent similar to Jimmy Durante's. After Dog Trouble, Spike appeared as a solo guest in Tom and Jerry cartoons for the next several years; his son Tyke was introduced in 1949, with Love That Pup. Tyke is a sweet, happy and innocent puppy, who doesn't speak for most of the earlier installments. Spike and Tyke's characters, provide a model of father and son behavior, with Spike spending much of his free time taking Tyke on father-son outings, teaching him the facts of life for dogs and guarding him diligently when they are sleeping.
Several stories also have Jerry taking advantage of Spike and Tyke's size and proximity, as he often tries to hide or sleep with or near Spike and Tyke for protection.

Unlike his father Spike, Tyke does not speak in Tom and Jerry (aside from laughing in one short); he does speak in Tom and Jerry Kids, voiced by Frank Welker and speaking roles by Patric Zimmerman.

The studio was shut down in 1957, and Hanna and Barbera would move on to television animation production success with their own Hanna-Barbera Productions. Spike was voiced by Billy Bletcher, and later Daws Butler. Tyke did not talk in the theatrical shorts, but did speak on the FOX television series Tom & Jerry Kids, for which the duo appeared in their own segments, and occasionally in the Tom and Jerry segments. Spike and Tyke were voiced by Richard Gautier and Patric Zimmerman, respectively.
The book tells the story of its main characters' final term at Cricklepit Combined School which is based on St. Sidwell's School Exeter where Gene Kemp taught. When this ends in disaster the headmaster says: "That child has always appeared to me to be on the brink of wrecking this school, and as far as I can see, has, at last, succeeded." His role is similar to Spike in cartoons such as The Bodyguard (1944), Fit To Be Tied (1952), and Much Ado About Mousing (1964), which is to defend Jerry against Tom. The game begins with the Bubble Gummers at bat and Woody pitching. A little tyke wearing diapers is first up. Before batting, he gulps down a bottle of milk for strength.
His nephew, Jemahl, was involved in one of the gangs, which he thought offered him protection. He was proven wrong, however, when the gangs turned against him to get to Steel. Tyke was paralyzed by a bullet meant for Jemahl and Blondell was assaulted. Steel eventually took down AmerTek and the gangs, and focused on who was helping AmerTek distribute the weapons.
While the stereotype might not always ring true, the county certainly has an illustrious rural history; many of the now prominent West Yorkshire cities grew thanks in part to the wool industry. Another stereotype often heard in connection with Yorkshire workers is the proverb "where there's muck, there's brass"; this refers to the widely held view that where one is willing to do unpalatable work, there is plenty of money to be made. Tyke or Yorkie is now a colloquialism used to identify the Yorkshire dialect, as well as the term some Yorkshiremen affectionately use to describe themselves, especially in the West Riding. Originally "tyke" was a highly derogatory word, meaning "a crude uncouth ill-bred person lacking culture or refinement"; southerners used the term against Yorkshiremen, but in defiance of the negative connotations it was adopted locally, taking on a new life.
Among the more than 100 cartoon series and specials they produced were: Atom Ant, Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy (an imitation of the earlier Spike and Tyke MGM cartoons), Jonny Quest, Josie and the Pussycats, Magilla Gorilla, Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinks, Quick Draw McGraw, and Top Cat. Top Cat was based on Phil Silvers's character Sgt. Bilko, though it has been erroneously reported that Sgt.
Halvdan competes with Runar for his rank as sex-machine, and Lill-Snorre's rank as a chief because he is weak as a chief. However, Halvdan is the only member of the group that Lill-Snorre can feel superior to, and is most often on the receiving end of his eye-pokes and groin-kicks. Tyke also beats him up on a regular basis.
Tyke Peacock (born February 24, 1961) is a retired high jumper from the United States, who is best known for winning the silver medal in the men's high jump event at the inaugural 1983 World Championships. He set his personal best of 2.33 metres in the same event on 1983-08-17 at a meet in Berlin. He also won the 1981 IAAF World Cup.
Tyke was slaughtered for fatally attacking a trainer in 1994. In September 2001, South Elgin's Anderson Animal Shelter planned to euthanize cats who had been there for more than three months. Hindi joined shelter employees in protesting the decision at a board meeting, bringing his truck with video monitors that said "Let The Cats Live". The board unanimously reversed its earlier decision to euthanize the cats.
Scot Free was not raced in 1886 and was gelded sometime before the 1887 racing season. He won the Trial Plate at the Epsom Spring Meeting, beating The Tyke by a length and a half. He was sold immediately after the race for 650 guineas. Returned to J. Foy, he was last of seven runners in the Brighton High-Wright Plate in August 1887.
In Tom and Jerry Kids, Tyke has a speaking role for the first time, aside from traditional dog noises he expressed in the prior films. Spike's relationships with Tom and Jerry have varied from time to time, but essentially Spike has little affection for Tom Cat, who seems always to be disrupting his life, causing trouble, antagonizing Tyke or all of the above. The Truce Hurts (1948), Pet Peeve (1954) and Hic-Cup Pup (1954) are so far the only cartoons where Spike actually cares about and shows affection for Tom; these relationships often dissolve and usually end with them fighting. Tom does not usually antagonize Spike intentionally, but Spike often ends up in the middle of a Tom and Jerry chase, (as they are all seemingly living together) which ends up waking Spike up, ruining his new dog house, wrecking his and Tyke's picnic, and so on.
In some shorts, Joan appears without George, such as Mouse for Sale, The Flying Sorceress, Mucho Mouse and Tot Watchers. It could be presumed that George would be working at his office during the settings of these cartoons. George and Joan also appeared in three other Tom & Jerry shorts, Tom's Photo Finish, Busy Buddies and The Vanishing Duck (Quacker's last short) and one Spike and Tyke short, Scat Cats.
A nonstandard dialect, like a standard dialect, has a complete grammar and vocabulary, but is usually not the beneficiary of institutional support. Examples of a nonstandard English dialect are Southern American English, Western Australian English, New York English, New England English, Mid- Atlantic American or Philadelphia / Baltimore English, Scouse, Brummie, Cockney, and Tyke. The Dialect Test was designed by Joseph Wright to compare different English dialects with each other.
He is also the owner of a nightclub and the board member of British company Netgames Holdings which he reportedly owns 3.3 percent of. Markoolio was one of the hosts for Talang on TV4 in 2009. He also played the titular character of Doktor Mugg and starred as Tyke Mörbult in Hem till Midgård. Markoolio was formerly a contestant on Let's Dance 2013, a contest he subsequently won.
Washington Redskins On March 19, 2018, Latimer signed with the New York Giants, reuniting with his former wide receivers coach, Tyke Tolbert. He was placed on injured reserve on October 16, 2018 after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 6. He was activated off injured reserve on December 19, 2018. In six games in the 2018 season, Latimer recorded 11 receptions for 190 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
As Tyke ran across the parking lot to escape, Ward ran after him and shot him. Police reported that they caught Ward two blocks away attempting to escape, and when cornered, Ward fanned the hammer on his sixshooter guns. Members of the movie industry publicly supported Ward during the trial. On July 18, 1940, the Los Angeles District Attorney found that Ward had fired in self-defense and dismissed the charges.
Each silent short lasted for about four minutes and often featured Griffiths interacting with Jerry, though Jerry always remained on the drawn page. In 2002, Welsh actor Rhys Ifans worked with BBC Wales to provide narration to several of the original Jerry the Tyke episodes, with music provided by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The 'lost' episodes were discovered by the Welsh Animation Group in the vaults of British Pathé at Pinewood, and have been described as "...the most comprehensive surviving material of a British screen cartoon creature" The rediscovery of the films has resulted in Jerry the Tyke being reintroduced to modern audiences, being shown on channel BBC 2W in the United Kingdom since 2002 and featuring at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival in 2005 and the British Silent Film Festival in 2010. Today the films form part of the collection of the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales.
Evans also intends to sell the row of houses where the College servants live. Skullion contemptuously remembers Sir Godber from his student days as a grammar school boy and therefore not a proper gentleman. As the son of a butcher, young Godber was the recipient of the college's legendary snobbery, known to all as 'grammar school tyke.' Skullion is sacked for insolence by Sir Godber, and is forced to leave his home.

Dermott was born on December 22, 1996, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada to parents Jim and Paula Dermott. He also grew up with an older sister. His mother, who is a retired figure skater, first encouraged him to begin skating before the age of four and eventually signed him up for Timbits hockey. He eventually graduated to the Super 7 Tyke Team in Newmarket by the age of seven with his father as his coach.
When they wake up, they are delighted to know that it's a boy. The doctor delivering him comments that he's a "scrappy little tyke", after trying to play coochie-coo with him, which Scrappy thought was to close, and got angry. Ruby decided to name him Scrappy. When Scooby and Shaggy look through the windowed doors from hearing the commotion, they get knocked into the wall, as Scrappy runs around the hospital, seeking action.
When his brother Gary mispronounced "tyke" as "dyke", the nickname stuck. His high school years were spent at Piedmont High School; he graduated in 1932. Before enrolling in college, he traveled in Europe and attended the Schule Schloss Salem school in Germany, then under the direction of the noted educator, Kurt Hahn. Returning to the U.S., Brown attended U.C. Berkeley and graduated in 1936, with a BA with highest honors and Phi Beta Kappa.
It originally aired only Hanna-Barbera cartoons such as The Yogi Bear Show, Top Cat, and The Flintstones. Cartoon Network is the first cartoon cable channel in the Philippines, with Disney Channel, launched in 1996, and Nickelodeon in 1998, following suit. In 1996, the channel started to air MGM cartoons, such as Tom and Jerry, Droopy, and Spike and Tyke. Following Time Warner's purchase of Turner later that year, the channel added Warner Bros.
After distributing Ub Iwerks' Flip the Frog and Willie Whopper cartoons and Happy Harmonies by Harman and Ising, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer founded its own cartoon studio in 1937. The studio had much success with Barney Bear (1939-1954), Hanna and Joseph Barbera's Tom and Jerry (1940) and Spike and Tyke (1942). In 1941, Tex Avery left Warner Bros. for MGM and would there create Droopy (1943), Screwy Squirrel (1944) and George and Junior (1944).
Again running after the babe, Popeye's backside is caught in the jaws of Swee'Pea's playmate just as the tyke finishes another crossing. The awful reptile flings his would-be prey through the air and advances as the sailor makes land. "All right, zipper-mouth, you asked for it!" Man and beast tussle, Popeye prevailing, it seems, when he has his rival stretched out flat on its back: gently, he rubs its belly, intoning a lullaby.
During a circus performance in 1994, Tyke, an African Elephant, killed her trainer and charged out of the arena in rage. The animal rampaged outside the arena for 30 minutes before police fired 87 rounds at the elephant, who eventually collapsed and died as a result of the shootings. The Philippine TV show ASAP performed at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena on June 30, 2018 through an international concert titled ASAP Live in Honolulu.
Initially storming into the hen house to make his views known he is taken aback to see the hens standing - arms folded - as a united front. Foghorn decides to "play it cagey" instead and feigns interest in "the cute little tyke". The chick already has designs on Foghorn's job; the rooster realizes that "this kid's gotta go". He approaches Miss Prissy and gains her permission to "train" her son in "the ancient art of roostering".
The EP charted at No. 14 on the Billboard HeatSeekers Album chart, as well as in the Top 50 of the Rap and R&B;/Hip-Hop Albums charts. Tyke T has performed as a supporting act for artists such as Yo Gotti, B.o.B., and Boosie Badazz. His music has also been featured in several television shows, including MTV's One Bad Choice, Starz's Power, Oxygen's Bad Girls Club, and VH1's Black Ink Crew and Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.
Spike has a few weaknesses that Tom tries to capitalize upon: his possessiveness about his bone and his ticklishness. Spike's fiercest behavior is reserved for anyone who interferes with Tyke, but also, Spike's generally well-intentioned brain is at times easily outwitted by Tom and/or Jerry. Jerry also arranges to get Tom in trouble with Spike, provoking a chase, and/or a pounding from the bulldog. and Spike will keep Tom's attention off Jerry for a while.
In Tom's later attempts to catch Jerry, he has to deal with Spike for bothering his son. In 1949's Love That Pup, Spike was given a puppy son, Tyke, who became another popular supporting character in the Tom and Jerry cartoons. His voice was taken over by Daws Butler, who styled Spike's voice after Jimmy Durante taking after his 1940s radio series with Garry Moore. He is named Spike from then on and is not changed again.
Or would she and Henry wait 18 years until this new little tyke heads off to college and Henry can come back to New York? Thankfully, I think Betty realized all this at the episode's heartbreaking end — she cried and hugged Ignacio as Henry gleefully held his new son at Charlie's side. Just as her heart was being ripped out, mine was, too. But Betty knows what she has to do, which is, without question, break up with Henry.
The addition of Spike's son Tyke in the late 1940s led to both a slight softening of Spike's character and a short-lived spin-off theatrical series (Spike and Tyke). Most cartoons with Spike in them conform to a theme: usually, Spike is trying to accomplish something (such as building a dog house or sleeping) when Tom and Jerry's antics stop him doing it. Spike then (presumably due to prejudice) singles out Tom as the culprit, and threatens him that if it ever happens again, he will do "something horrible" to him (effectively forcing Tom to take the blame) while Jerry overhears; afterward, Jerry usually does anything he can to interrupt whatever Spike is doing while Tom barely manages to stop him (usually getting injured in the process). Usually, Jerry does eventually wreck whatever Spike is doing in spectacular fashion and leaves Tom to take the blame, forcing him to flee from Spike and inevitably lose (usually because Tom is usually framed by Jerry and that Spike just doesn't like Tom).
The Cumberland Panthers are a Canadian football organization based in the Orleans area of Ottawa and the largest minor football organization in eastern Canada. The Cumberland Panthers were founded in 1993, starting out in the Mosquito level of the National Capital Amateur Football Association. Progressively, they have increased the number of teams being fielded as their players aged. In 1994, the organization added a team to compete in the Peewee level, followed by Tyke in 1996, and Bantam in 1997.

Prior to the formation of S4C in 1982, there was very little work produced in the field of animation in Wales. The one notable exception being Sid Griffiths' Jerry the Tyke (1925-1927), a mischievous dog who was used for Pathé cinema news magazines. Production increased after 1982, with S4C producing the popular children's animation SuperTed made by Siriol Productions. Siriol eventually branched into making feature length animations, including an adaptation of Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood (1992) and a joint venture with Hungarian company PannóniaFilm, The Princess and the Goblin (1992).
It originally aired only Hanna-Barbera cartoons such as Yogi Bear, Top Cat, The Flintstones etc. The channel quickly started to develop though, airing for the first time MGM cartoons (Tom and Jerry, Droopy, and Spike and Tyke) on 1 January 1996, and (after Time Warner's purchase of Turner in 1996) Warner Bros. shows (Looney Tunes, and several other Looney Tunes related cartoons) on 1 January 1997. In mid-1997, Cartoon Network started to air its first original shows (Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Dexter's Laboratory and The Moxy Show).
After a dull first half, Reds substitute Istvan Ferenczi, who replaced Miguel Mostto scored with his first touch, a header from Rob Kozluk's cross. Former Tyke Tommy Wright then levelled for Darlington before Reds skipper Paul Reid rifled a bouncing ball into the net to seal Barnsley's passage to the next round. Match Two – Colchester United 2–2 Barnsley Barnsley's first away game ended 2–2 at Colchester United. Brian Howard grabbed the first goal of the game for Barnsley after Dean Gerken brought down Kayode Odejayi and was sent off.
Following the Hawaii accident of August 20, 1994, Tyke became symbolic of circus tragedies and a symbol for animal rights. In the aftermath, lawsuits were filed against the City of Honolulu, the State of Hawaii, the circus, and Tyke's owner, John Cuneo Jr. and his Hawthorn Corp. Honolulu lawyer William Fenton Sink sued Cuneo on behalf of numerous plaintiffs, including young children, who suffered psychological injuries after witnessing Tyke's killing. While the lawsuits were settled out of court, the details of the monetary decision was kept sealed from publication.
In honor of Sink's work in the Tyke case, Animal Rights Hawaii renamed its "Order of the Innocent Award", The William Fenton Sink Award for Defense of Animals. Allen Campbell's autopsy revealed that he died from severe internal injuries, including major skull and chest fractures. It was also determined Campbell had cocaine and alcohol in his system at the time of his death. Officials at the Denver Zoo confirmed that there were complaints of animal abuse filed against Campbell during the late 1980s, when he operated an elephant and camel ride concession in the city.
The bomber crew credited the pigeon with saving their lives. Tyke was awarded the Dickin Medal for his actions, an animal-only medal issued by the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals. Tyke's citation reads, "For delivering a message under exceptionally difficult conditions and so contributing to the rescue of an Air Crew, while serving with the RAF in the Mediterranean in June, 1943." He was one of the first pigeons to be awarded the Dickin Medal, along with White Vision and Winkie, who each received the award on 2 December 1943.
In the 15th century a Carthusian priory was founded by King Henry V at Sheen. These would all perish, along with the still important Benedictine abbey of Chertsey, in the 16th-century Dissolution of the Monasteries. Now fallen into disuse, some English counties had nicknames for those raised there such as a 'tyke' from Yorkshire, or a 'yellowbelly' from Lincolnshire. In the case of Surrey, the term was a 'Surrey capon', from Surrey's role in the later Middle Ages as the county where chickens were fattened up for the London meat markets.

Lucy is Neighbours entrant to the list: early on she was an adorable tyke with her puppy Bouncer; then she returned with drug and alcohol problems and a job as a stripper; and finally she became a businesswoman in the Rosemary Daniels mould for subsequent visits". Sally Beck of the Daily Mirror branded her a fesity female complete with "techno" style attire. Media company Virgin Media praised the character stating: "Melissa became a household name as Ramsay Street's Lucy Robinson. Viewers loved her character's close relationship with grandma, Helen Daniels, and her wayward teenage antics.
Shane Williamson was the first head coach for varsity football. In the 1999 season the team made a deep run into the state AAA playoffs, eventually losing to Marion in the lower state semi-finals. The team had a tough defense led by Lounzy Green (Coastal Carolina University), Keith Sherman, Tyke Greene (Citadel), and Jack Johnson (USC transferred to South Carolina State.) At the end of that year, Williamson had an opportunity to work at Broome High School. This led him to become even more heavily involved with the FCA Program.
People who had been rushing to the Chicago Auto Show entrance "stopped in their tracks and gazed open-mouthed" at Hindi's signs and video. Although most of the people did not speak to Hindi, some asked him questions as he stood next to his truck. In May 2001, Hindi protested the Walker Brothers Circus event at the Kane County Events Center (now named the Fifth Third Bank Ballpark). He drove around in the Tiger, showcasing film of Tyke, an elephant owned by Hawthorn Corporation, which manages Walker Brothers Circus' animals.
In February 2003, after six years at Maryland, he was named as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Florida under Ron Zook, replacing Tyke Tolbert, who left to be a coach with the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL. Locksley was named offensive coordinator at Illinois in January 2005, replacing Larry Fedora who went to Oklahoma State University, pairing Locksley again with head coach Ron Zook. He is credited with luring at least nine players from the Washington D.C. area for Illinois from 2005 through 2008, including wide receiver Arrelious Benn, 2007 Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
He contracted to run the elephant ride and provide a baby elephant mascot for the Denver Zoo in 1986. He worked as an elephant consultant for many zoos including the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. He was heavily influenced by circus trainer Rex Williams and his life's ambition was to have a circus elephant act. He eventually worked as an elephant trainer for The Hawthorn Corporation. Campbell was crushed to death on August 20, 1994, at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, after attempting to save fellow co-worker Dallas Beckwith from the performing elephant Tyke, who had run amok.
Charles Henry Roland (29 January 1876 – 3 February 1938 ) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Charlie "Tyke" Roland initially played for the Border Federal Junior Football Club (Corowa) in 1893. Roland then played for the Border United Football Club (Corowa based) in the Ovens and Murray Football League between 1894 and 1898. Roland then played with the Excelsior Football Club in the Ovens and Murray Football League in 1899, then he apparently moved across to Western Australia in early 1900, before playing his first game with the Carlton Football Club in round one, 1900.
Off-screen, Spike does something to Tom and finally, Tom is generally shown injured or in a bad situation while Jerry smugly cuddles up to Spike unscathed. Tom sometimes gets irritated with Spike (an example is in That's My Pup!, when Spike forces Tom to run up a tree every time his son barked, causing Tom to hang Tyke on a flag pole). At least once, however, Tom does something that benefits Spike, who promises not to interfere ever again; causing Jerry to frantically leave the house and run into the distance (in Hic-cup Pup).
The Panthers previously had three teams competing in the Ontario Provincial Football League in Varsity (Under-20) Junior Varsity (Under-17) and Bantam Varsity (Under-15) levels. In 2004, the Panthers fielded their first Junior Football team, in the Quebec Junior Football League, joining the Ottawa Sooners and Ottawa Junior Riders as the leagues entries from Ontario. The Cumberland Panthers organization also fields Girls' Touch Football teams, as well as Tyke and Mosquito Flag Football teams and a cheer squad. Various training programs are also offered, including Jr Panthers, for ages 5, 6 and 7 and the off-season Varsity training program for players age 15-19.
After finishing his career with the Nashville Predators, Turcotte stayed in middle Tennessee and founded the Southern Ice Lightning AAA Midget traveling team in Brentwood, Tennessee. While in Tennessee, Turcotte began coaching his son Devan's tyke house league team as well as his Elite midget 'AAA' team. After a few years in Tennessee, Turcotte returned to North Bay where he became the assistant coach for the Abitibi Eskimos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) in 2005–06. Shortly after, he became the head coach for the North Bay Skyhawks for two seasons. During his two seasons with the Skyhawks, Turcotte had a 41-28-1 record.
In his attempts to catch Jerry, Tom often has to deal with Spike (known as "Killer" and "Butch" in some shorts), an angry, vicious but easily duped bulldog who tries to attack Tom for bothering him or his son Tyke while trying to get Jerry. Originally, Spike was unnamed and mute (aside from howls and biting noises) as well as attacking indiscriminately, not caring whether it was Tom or Jerry though usually attacking Tom. In later cartoons, Spike spoke often, using a voice and expressions (performed by Billy Bletcher and later Daws Butler) modeled after comedian Jimmy Durante. Spike's coat has altered throughout the years between gray and creamy tan.
The following list is a filmography of all animated short subjects distributed by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) motion picture studio through Loew's Incorporated between 1934 and 1958 and between 1961 and 1967. Between 1937 and 1957, MGM ran an in-house cartoon studio which produced shorts featuring the characters Barney Bear, Little Dee-Dee, Droopy, Red Hot Riding Hood & The Wolf, Screwy Squirrel, George and Junior, Spike, Spike and Tyke, and their best-known work, Tom and Jerry. Outside producers included Ub Iwerks (1930–34), Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising (1934–38), William L. Snyder (1961–62), and Chuck Jones (1963–67, via MGM Animation/Visual Arts).
" They added that "the poor lass" had been through a lot with Brad's departure and that it was only a matter of time before attention turned to her, following Sally's time in the spotlight. Commenting on the storyline in which Alf hits Pippa with his ute, another Daily Record reporter said "The tyke appears in the odd scene or two with her mum, who only seems to either put her to bed, make her some toast or pat her on the head. It's a shame then the poor lass has to be unconscious for her biggest storyline to date. She ends up critically injured after Alf backs over her, while Sally is beside herself with anguish.
Spike, occasionally referred to as Butch or Killer, is a stern but occasionally amazing grey American bulldog who is particularly disapproving of cats, but is gentle towards mice (though in his debut appearance, Dog Trouble (1942), Spike goes after both Tom and Jerry), and later, his son Tyke. In the shorts Jerry would often try to get Tom in trouble with Spike so that the bulldog would beat him. Spike has a few weaknesses that Tom tries to capitalize upon: his possessiveness about his bone and his ticklishness. His first speaking role was in The Bodyguard (1944), where he was voiced by Billy Bletcher up until 1949, from which point he was voiced by Daws Butler.
This turned out to be false when they attacked his home. Between this attack and his knowledge that the Toastmasters were now being used on the streets of D.C., he reforged his armor (it was now stronger than ever); he began his crusade against AmerTek, which he correctly knew was responsible for leaking the weapons onto the street. Steel decided not to use the "S" emblem, however, since he felt that his battle might take him outside the law. Steel's family was introduced in this series: his grandparents, Butter and Bess, his sister- in-law Blondell, and her five children: Jemahl, Natasha, Paco, Tyke, and Darlene (the latter two being foster children).
On August 20, 1994, during a performance at Circus International in Honolulu, Hawaii, Tyke trampled and critically injured her groomer, Dallas Beckwith, throwing him around numerous times in the process, before killing her trainer, Allen Campbell, who was knocked to the ground, dragged and crushed to death under Tyke's massive trunk after he attempted to save Beckwith from being trampled to death during the attack. She then charged out of the arena and onto the streets outside. She additionally attacked and nearly crushed publicist Steve Hirano, who tried to stop her from escaping from the circus' parking lot. A nearby police officer seeing the attack fired multiple shots in the direction of the elephant, distracting her and causing her to flee away from Hirano.
One of the biggest trends for Saturday morning television in the 1980s and 1990s was the "babyfication" (child versions) of classic cartoon stars, and on March 2, 1990, Tom & Jerry Kids, co-produced by Turner Entertainment Co. and Hanna- Barbera Productions (which would be sold to Turner in 1991), debuted on Fox Kids, and also aired for a few years on British children's block, CBBC. It featured a youthful version of the famous cat-and-mouse duo chasing each other. As with the 1975 H-B series, Jerry wears his red bowtie, while Tom now wears a red cap. Spike and his son Tyke (who now had talking dialogue), and Droopy and his son Dripple, appeared in back-up segments for the show, which ran until November 18, 1994.
Tolbert started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at LSU in the spring of 1994 and quickly transferred to Northeast Louisiana to also work as a graduate assistant in the fall. He would go on to coach wide receivers at Ohio in the spring of 1995, before once again returning in the fall to Northeast Louisiana, where he assisted in coaching the team’s tight ends for three seasons. He would then go on to coach tight ends at Auburn in the 1998 season. Tyke would spend the next three years (1999-2001) as the wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator at Louisiana-Lafayette, followed by a year serving as a tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator at Florida in 2002, before making the jump to the NFL the following season.
In 2007, McMillan published a book named Collins Chelp and Chunter: a Guide to the Tyke Tongue. This was a compilation of words that are used in the Yorkshire dialect as well as a few pieces of Yorkshire humour and illustrations. The book received a negative review in the Transactions of the Yorkshire Dialect Society in 2019, which noted that the work had an inconsistent orthography, assigned words to very specific locations when they were spread over wider areas and did not take account of the historical development of the dialect. In celebration of the UK's 2012 National Pie Week, Ian McMillan wrote a 'piem' devoted to the creations of the 'pie village' of Denby Dale, which has produced several world record breaking pies over the last 250 years.
George's celebrity status is confirmed by his appearance in the Punch magazine cartoon shown above. He even claimed to have received visits from foreign royalty. Apparently Charles Dickens paid him visits when researching Bill Sikes’ dog, Bull’s Eye (portrayed by illustrator Fred Barnard as a Bulldog) in Oliver Twist (1837-39). Bill Sikes and Bull's Eye He was proud that a letter sent to “Bill George, Devil’s Castle, Bloodhound Corner, Tyke Lane, London” reached him, but disappointed when one sent to “Mr. Bill George, Dog Fancier, London” was returned to the sender. He is said to have asked the name of the Postmaster General, and, when told it was Lord John Manners, replied, “Tell those fools in the Post Office that if his Lordship don’t know me, I don’t know manners”.
Butch is usually portrayed as a homeless alley/street cat although in the short, Blue Cat Blues (1956), Butch is apparently a millionaire who wins the attention of Tom's love interest due to his immense wealth much to Tom's dismay. Butch also appears in a cartoon in the short-lived Spike and Tyke cartoon series Scat Cats (1957) as a house cat owned by George and Joan who in later installments of the original series own Tom. In much later cartoons, he is voiced by Maurice LaMarche in Tom and Jerry: The Magic Ring (2002), Tony Cervone in The Karate Guard (2005), Colin Murdock in Tom and Jerry Tales (2006–8), Alan Marriott in Tom and Jerry in Fists of Furry (video game, 2000), Marc Silk in Tom and Jerry in War of the Whiskers (video game, 2002), and Joey D'Auria in The Tom and Jerry Show (2014–present).
In 1801 he played at the Haymarket Clod in the Young Quaker of O'Keeffe, Farmer Ashfield in Speed the Plough, and other parts. From this time until his death he remained at Covent Garden, with the exception of playing at the English Opera House, 16 August 1821, as Giles in the Miller's Maid, a comic opera based on one of the Rural Tales of Bloomfield, adapted by John Davy. He was the original Dan in Colman's John Bull, 5 March 1803; Tyke in Morton's School of Reform, 15 January 1805; Ralph Hempseed in Colman's X Y Z, 11 December 1810; Dandie Dinmont in Guy Mannering, 12 March 1816, and Ratcliff in the Heart of Midlothian, 17 April 1819, (both by Terry, based on novels by his friend Sir Walter Scott). The first Banned from Television video was released in 1998, followed by two sequels that were also released the same year. Some of the more famous footage included in the series was: footage of Luis Donaldo Colosio's assassination; the rampage of circus elephant Tyke; the executions of Roberto Girón and Pedro Castillo; footage of the Royal Jomtien Resort Hotel fire; and the death of Mary T. Wojtyla, a woman hit by a speeding train in Downers Grove, Illinois. Other footage included: the murder of Pete Shrum, the murder of Lea Mek, the attempted suicide of Terry Rossland, the extrajudicial execution by burning of Rodolfo Hernandez, footage of the 1998 Cúa hostage crisis, footage of a 1990 Lucas Oil 200 (ARCA) race in which Slick Johnson was killed and paramedic Mike Staley was injured, and the deaths of motorcycle stunt riders Corey Scott and Butch Laswell. Due to the films' graphic content, Francis stopped the series after three films, because he found it too disturbing to watch them back-to- back.
Like the first Care Bears Movie, Adventure in Wonderland received mixed reviews from critics. Henry Herx in The Family Guide to Movies and Videos deemed it a "vastly superior sequel" to the "failed original": "[It is] a lively, colourful, complexly designed and orchestrated travelolgue through Wonderland ... Director Raymond Jafelice holds even adult interest with his fast cuts and engaging fantasy characters." while the Bantam Books guide, Movies on TV and Video Cassette gave it two and a half stars out of four and called it "Enjoyable [...] for the tyke set." The 1988–1989 edition of the Film Review called it "the best of the trio", adding that it "may well please the youngsters" with its "non-stop entertainment"; this view was also shared by Carole Kass of the Richmond Times-Dispatch. John Teerds of Brisbane, Australia's Sunday Mail wrote of the film positively, while another Australian critic, Rob Lowing of Sydney's The Sun-Herald, gave it two and a half stars out of four and noted that there was "Nothing original here, although that also means nothing to shock".
Seven of the cartoons won seven Oscars for Best Short Subject (Cartoons) between 1943 and 1953, while the others got nominated for 12, but these were awarded to producer Fred Quimby, who was not involved in the creative development of the shorts. The pair also directed new hybrid animated and live-action musical sequences for MGM's feature films Anchors Aweigh (notable for its dance sequence featuring Gene Kelly and Jerry), Dangerous When Wet, and Invitation to the Dance, and wrote and directed a handful of one-shot cartoons, Gallopin' Gals, Officer Pooch, War Dogs',' and Good Will to Men, a 1955 remake of 1939's Peace on Earth. With Quimby's retirement in 1955, Hanna and Barbera became the producers in charge of the MGM animation studio's output, supervising the last seven shorts of Tex Avery's Droopy series and directing and producing a short-lived Tom and Jerry spin-off series, Spike and Tyke, which ran for two entries. In addition to their work on the cartoons, the two men moonlighted on outside projects, including the original title sequences and commercials for the CBS sitcom I Love Lucy.
