The increasing popularity of trail biking has brought to the fore some of the inherent conflicts in the uses of public land — natural regions or playgrounds.

The law protecting SSSIs now covers everyone, not just public bodies and the owners and occupiers of SSSIs. Previously, activities by "third parties" were not illegal under the SSSI legislation. This meant that damaging activities such as fly-tipping, intensive bait- digging or trail biking on an SSSI were only prevented if done (or permitted) by the owner or occupier – not if done by trespassers or under public rights. The effect was, for example to allow control of legal trail biking on SSSIs (where damaging to the interest), but not illegal trail biking.

Hebron's most popular year-round recreation area is Gay City State Park, Connecticut's second-largest State Park. There is a 5-mile perimeter trail and an extensive network of cross trails that run throughout the park. All are suitable for woodland hiking and trail biking. Gay City also has a pond in which swimming is available in season, fishing, picnic areas, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Promised Lake and Lower Lake are both popular fishing and ice fishing destinations. The common game fish are smallmouth and largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, pickerel, muskellunge, and yellow perch. Lower Lake is stocked by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission with brook, rainbow and brown trout.

Before the railroad era, New York had an extensive network of canals. As commercial freight shifted away from canals and towards rail and highways, communities along the canals needed new ways to generate commerce. In 1995, the Canal Corporation issued a recreation plan, which offered a view of the Canal as a linear park, including trails linking communities along the trail. Biking, hiking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, canoeing, and fishing are among activities promoted.

Karapoti Gorge Karapoti Gorge is one of the entrances into the Akatarawa Forest, a regional park in the Wellington Region in New Zealand. The Akatarawa River West runs through this narrow, mostly bush-clad gorge towards the Akatarawa Valley. A narrow road winds its way along the steep slopes, providing access for trail biking, mountain biking and walking. Karapoti Gorge is also the starting leg of the annual Karapoti Classic mountain bike event, which runs on the network of tracks in the Akatarawa Forest.

Little River Rail Trail near Lake Ellesmere / Te Waihora As well as holding high cultural significance to the indigenous population Lake Ellesmere / Te Waihora is also rated as a nationally significant site for recreation. The lake is currently used for a wide range of water and land based activities. It has been identified as nationally significant for waterfowl hunting, and regionally significant for fishing and cycling on the rail trail. A wide range of both water and land based activities are currently undertaken in the area including fishing, waterfowl hunting, bird-watching, picnicking, camping, cycling, trail biking, scenic driving and water sports such as kayaking and water-skiing.

Te Ngahere o Woodhill (Woodhill Forest) is a commercial exotic (pine) forest located to the northwest of Auckland, New Zealand. The forest covers approx 12,500 hectares of the Te Korowai-o-Te-Tonga Peninsula, from Muriwai in the south to South Head in the north. The forest is a popular location for a number of recreation activities, including horse riding, 4WD and trail biking, mountain biking, paintball, tree climbing adventures (confidence and team building), orienteering and filming, although all require a permit (paid), and walking or dog walking is no longer supported by the owners. Woodhill Forest is a sand-based pine forest, providing all weather trails and recreation.

With the girl cabins of Morris 1 for seven- and eight-year-olds; Morris 2 for eight- and nine-year-olds; 1&2 for ten- and eleven-year-olds; 3&4 for eleven- and twelve-year-olds; 5&6 for twelve- and thirteen-year-olds; 7&8 for thirteen- and fourteen-year-olds; and Leighton for fourteen-, fifteen-, and sixteen-year-olds; the boys cabins are Baker Cooper for seven- and eight-year- olds; 9&10 for nine- and ten-year-olds; 11&12 for eleven- and 12-year-olds; 13&14 for thirteen- and fourteen year-olds; 15&16 for fifteen-year-olds and sixteen-year-olds; and the Hill for every older kid. At Eberhart today there are the programs of swimming, sailing, boats, canoes, kayaks, fishing, photography, archery, riflery, nature, outdoor living, and many more. There also the specialty programs of waterskiing, horseback riding, trail biking, challenge course, and others.
