The destination country must be one in which English is either an official language or is used widely enough that the Chilean student will be experiencing total immersion. All scholarship applicants undergo a rigorous selection process that includes taking an English-language proficiency test such as the TOEFL or IELTS.

Tantra's painting practice, like her public artwork, strives to "turn the white cube space inside out". "I want to create a feeling of total immersion, of diving into the colour and into the surface", she explains. Bold geometric patterns and colours seek to create "a more intimate relationship with what you see in front of you - an awareness of material and colour and the solidity between the two". Tantra has had a number of international solo-shows.

The organization was founded by Ethel Brogan, a native of Armagh, Northern Ireland who learned Irish by spending one month each summer in the Gaeltacht. She emigrated to New York City in 1946 and eventually moved to upstate New York. In the United States, Brogan began teaching Irish classes for the benefit of interested neighbors. In 1981, she arranged the first "Gaeltacht Weekend" in New York for students to improve their Irish language skills through total immersion.

This study noted that while the preschool staff knew both languages, they spoke English to the children most of the time. In addition, most of the children's parents spoke to the children in English more often than in Navajo. The study concluded that the preschoolers were in "almost total immersion in English". An American Community Survey taken in 2011 found that 169,369 Americans spoke Navajo at home – 0.3 percent of Americans whose primary home language was not English.

Laughlin started coaching in the early 1970s at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. His coaching of college and club teams produced 24 national champions. He then founded the Total Immersion swim program in 1989 to work with what he termed “adult-onset swimmers,” who took up the sport in adulthood, often as triathletes with little swimming experience. His teaching emphasized efficiency in the water through balance, streamlining, drag reduction and energy conservation.

Dixon's strong Freethinking Christian religious beliefs were, however, examined and repudiated as "insane mysticism" by the atheist Carlile, first in his initial account of their meeting and then in a subsequent issue of The Lion, in which he published and annotated a lengthy response from Dixon to the previous piece.Carlile, pp.133–141 Two years later, on 7 June 1829, Dixon attracted large crowds when he underwent public baptism by total immersion in the Peak Forest Canal.

Eurogamer was impressed with Omikron's atmospheric, "futuristic cityscape", thinking well of the general story. Game Revolution declared The Nomad Soul the first game to approach total immersion, thus calling it the "best single player gaming experience" of 1999. Game Revolution termed the story "deeply engaging", the ability to solve individual problems through multiple paths "refreshing", the graphical effects "simply gorgeous", the character models "striking", and sound effects and voice acting "generally excellent". The in-game movie sequences were similarly praised.

Combat side stroke or CSS is a variation of the side stroke that was developed by and taught to the United States Navy SEALs. The Combat Swimmer Stroke was developed for the United States Navy Seals by Former Navy SEAL Stew Smith (CSCS) and Terry Laughlin of Total Immersion Swimming. The combat side stroke is a relaxing and very efficient swim stroke that is an updated version of the traditional sidestroke. The CSS is a mix of sidestroke, front crawl, and breaststroke.

His second CD, Total Immersion - Live at the Kennedy Center, is only the second CD authorized for public release by the Kennedy Center (the first was by Pavarotti). His Quartet has released two CDs: Ancient Algorithms (2015) and All Barriers Fall (May 15, 2018). The most popular Indian-based Indo-jazz band would be KARMA, with internationally acclaimed tabla maestro Subhen Chatterjee, Lew Hilt (India's best known bassist), Amyt Dutta (one of India's best jazz guitarists) and others fronting the band.

Christadelphians believe that people are separated from God because of their sins but that humankind can be reconciled to him by becoming disciples of Jesus Christ. This is by belief in the gospel, through repentance, and through baptism by total immersion in water. They reject assurance of salvation, believing instead that salvation comes as a result of remaining "in Christ". After death, believers are in a state of non- existence, knowing nothing until the Resurrection at the return of Christ.

Mick Woodmansey, said the clothes they had worn had "femininity and sheer outrageousness", and that the characters' looks "definitely appealed to our rebellious artistic instincts". Nenad Georgievski of All About Jazz said the record was presented with "high-heeled boots, multicolored dresses, extravagant makeup and outrageous sexuality". Co-produced by the association Trans Musicales, Trans on Tour offers for the ninth year in a row, the opportunity for local bands to perform in the venues of the Great West. Kick-starting the festival, the main aim of this tour is to assist artists in developing their professionalism. The high point of this tour is a performance at the Trans Musicales for each participating band. The aim is to challenge aspiring artists with a stream of events requiring total immersion in a professional framework.

With The Nomad Soul, Cage wanted to create "a movie-like experience - with total immersion" and mix multiple genres. He was initially hesitant to introduce a first-person perspective as it gave him headaches, but implemented it at Eidos' request. Cage had written down names of artists he wanted to work with, including Björk, Massive Attack, Archive, and David Bowie. At the behest of Eidos' senior designer Philip Campbell, Bowie was ultimately solicited for the music, which was done with assistance from guitarist Reeves Gabrels.

Recruited in ancient Babylon, Imarte is an anthropologist who collects cultural knowledge and customs. Like all Preservers, she cares more about her work than anything else. Since contact with outsiders inevitably contaminates her work, she resents the activities of any other Preservers, as is evident in Sky Coyote. She also practices a form of "total immersion" learning which involves having sex with her male subjects, either as a freelance prostitute, as in Mendoza in Hollywood, or else a "religious concubine", as in past assignments.

The Mandaean faith is commonly known as the last surviving Gnostic faith and its adherents believe it to be the oldest faith on Earth. John the Baptist, known as Yahia Yuhanna, is considered to have been the final Mandaean prophet and first true Ris'Amma, or Ethnarch, of the Mandaean people. Most Iraqi Mandaeans live near waterways because of the practice of total immersion (or baptism) in flowing water every Sunday. The highest concentrations are in the Mesene province with headquarters in Amarah, Qalat Saleh and Basra.

In his contribution to the 1986 11th International Archaeology Congress on "What do the texts teach us on the equipment and furnishings needed for baptism in southern Gaul and northern Italy?" Jean- Charles Picard concluded that the texts speak only of immersion and that the area has no archaeological images of baptism by pouring water on the head.; as reported in . In 1987, on the basis of archaeology and parallels with Jewish practice, Sanford La Sor considered it likely that total immersion was also Christian practice.

In London, Morgan became known as a hard-working, enthusiastic minister, his wife, Sarah, filling his pulpit on a number of occasions. Thomas Edward Ellis also spoke at the chapel, and it was rumoured that Vyrnwy Morgan was planning to enter parliament. In September 1895, Morgan was baptised by total immersion at Watergate Chapel, Brecon, his father-in-law performing the rite. This change of denomination meant a change of pulpits, and in November 1895, John Vyrnwy Morgan was inducted to the Pastorate of Tabernacle English Baptist Chapel, Waun Wen, Swansea.

Stating optimum viewing distance as a range rather than as fixed distance is on the rise; possibly because of changes in the profile of the typical HDTV purchaser. Early adopters of HDTV were typically videophiles, the technically adventurous and the sports enthusiast looking to have the ultimate viewing experience. Today, the typical HDTV consumer's aims may be a little more modest; total immersion takes a back seat to room integration. Major retail chains like Best Buy that once stated their recommendation as a fixed distance, are starting to provide range recommendations.

Galloni received a degree from Boston's Berklee College of Music in jazz composition and guitar. After a stint as a musician and waiter, which led him to get to know many of the new California wineries of the time, he took a job with Putnam Investments and was soon after sent to Putnam's Milan office. This opportunity was a total immersion in Italian wine and culture. Galloni returned to the United States to acquire a formal business education, where he earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Stacy C. Hollander, the American Folk Art Museum's chief curator, and Valérie Rousseau, its curator of art of the self-taught art and art brut, organized Traylor in Motion. Together, the exhibits featured 104 of Traylor's drawings and paintings. Total Immersion focuses on a handful of core principles that apply to any body moving through a fluid medium whether it be a boat, a submarine, an aquatic mammal, or a fish. It emphasizes greater efficiency and lowered resistance by teaching drills and focal points that keep the swimmer's hips near the surface, reducing the drag profile of the body. Balance in the water refers to having hips, shoulders, and head all level with the surface of the water. The body acts like a see–saw with the lungs as the fulcrum.

Because the legs typically weigh more than the head and upper body, swimmers must focus on getting weight forward of the lungs in order to bring the hips to the surface. Adjusting head position, usually by lowering it, and having the arms in front of the lungs by almost overlapping the timing of the stroke helps to balance the body in the same way a see–saw balances by adding weight to one side. This stroke timing is frequently called "front quadrant swimming".Total Immersion T. Laughlin & J. Delves pp.

After learning how to balance in the water, the next main focus in total immersion is streamlining the body. Streamlining is another element of drag reduction that allows the swimmer to be more efficient. Static streamlining refers to positions such as "skating" in which one arm is extended forward creating a leading point and a tapered body following the arm, much like a torpedo or bullet is shaped. Active streamlining refers to maintaining the streamlined body position while the body rotates from right-side streamline to left-side streamline.

Most of the American instructors or many of the American instructors had law enforcement backgrounds before the war. To a degree, some of the recruits provided by China were not healthy but their willingness and their ability of learning surprised instructors. A total of about 2,500 marines and sailors trained and operated with guerrilla forces of China, often behind enemy lines. Of all missions during war period that was set up by the Americans in China, the policy of Total Immersion was only applied by SACO with the Chinese.

Peter Homas, Jung in Context (London 1979) p. 207 Turner also worked on the idea of communitas, the feeling of camaraderie associated among a group experiencing the same liminal experience or rite. Turner defined three distinct and not always sequential forms of communitas, which he describes as "that 'antistructural' state at stake in the liminal phase of ritual forms." The first, spontaneous communitas, is described as "a direct, immediate, and total confrontation of human identities" in which those involved share a feeling of synchronicity and a total immersion into one fluid event.

They have accomplished: "Curriculum development, teaching materials and teacher training for a total immersion program for children, beginning when they are preschoolers, that enables them to learn Cherokee as their first language. The participating children and their parents learn to speak and read together. The Tribe operates the Kituwah Academy". After the Indian wars in the late 19th century, the government established Native American boarding schools, initially run primarily by or affiliated with Christian missionaries. At this time, American society thought that Native American children needed to be acculturated to the general society. The boarding school experience was a total immersion in modern American society, but it could prove traumatic to children, who were forbidden to speak their native languages. They were taught Christianity and not allowed to practice their native religions, and in numerous other ways forced to abandon their Native American identities.

He indulged in thirteen toasts — one for each state — during a victory celebration at New York's Fraunces Tavern, and it is said that after he partook of Fish House punch at Philadelphia's State in Schuylkill, he couldn't bring himself to make an entry in his diary for the following three days. The State in Schuylkill Fish House Punch is traditionally made in a large bowl that did double duty as a baptismal font for the citizens' infant sons. "Its an ample space . . . . . would indeed admit of total immersion," as one citizen noted.

Gàidhlig aig Baile courses and workshops teach students to speak and understand Gaelic through conducting everyday activities, games, and conversation in a total immersion environment. Once students are functional in the language, they may learn to read and write Gaelic, either in continued immersion through Sgoil Ghàidhlig’s courses or through other methods. Sgoil Ghàidhlig an Àrd-Bhaile is supported by the Province of Nova Scotia through the Office of Gaelic Affairs, and works in co-operation with the Office of Gaelic Affairs to develop and promote Gaelic resources for all Nova Scotians.

The history of Salem can be traced back to 1835, when Joseph Harrison, minister of Ebenezer, Trecynon broke away from that church because he was prepared to administer baptism by total immersion to those who wished. This was contrary to the beliefs of Independent church members. Meetings were initially held in houses and later in the long room of the White Lion Inn. Although this was disapproved of by a number of members who were teetotal it was far from unusual for the chapels of the valley to have their early origins in meetings in public houses.

Album of the Year assessed the critical consensus as 86 out of 100, based on 39 reviews. Mojo reviewer Andy Cowan called it "a beguiling, meandering sprawl that rewards total immersion", while Tara Joshi deemed Blonde a "fully conceptualised, curated personal vision" and "a sublime and largely impressive album" in her review for The Quietus. Because they have no chance to study the languages separately, they are not able to differentiate between the two or maintain such a difference in expression. Literacy plays an important role in the development of language in these immigrant children. Those who were literate in their first language before arriving, and who have support to maintain that literacy, are at the very least able to maintain and master their first language. There are differences between those who learn a language in a class environment and those who learn through total immersion, usually living in a country where the target language is widely spoken.

Hetherington studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Cleveland Institute of Music, Ohio, supported by a Cleveland Institute of Music Scholarship and a Caird Trust Travel Scholarship. Guillermo del Toro, who directed Chastain in Crimson Peak, believes that she is "interested in being chameleonic", and that she brings authenticity even to bizarre situations. Sophie Heawood of The Guardian believes that Chastain's ability to bring very little ego to her roles renders her unrecognisable to the audience. Sarah Karmali of Harper's Bazaar opines that "she goes for total immersion, sinking so deep into character that her face seems to change shape with each one". Lea Goldman of Marie Claire has compared her craft to that of Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett, and writes that she values her craft over her looks.

Hosted by Jerry Orbach, the show combined HDTV on a wide screen with a lightshow and fireworks, was a three - part journey combining giant screen High Definition Video, computer controlled effects, live actors and total immersion environments that propelled visitors through the past, present and future of New York City. He executed the conception, design and construction of the theaters and displays as well as directing and editing of all content for the shows. In 1998, Niles consulted and directed the redesigning of Madison Square Garden studio into HDTV production facilities and has begun design for HDTV facilities for Radio City Music Hall.

The show has been described as an audio drama "pushing the evolution" of podcasting. The initial concept was to simulate a movie within the listener's mind, to create a sense of total immersion without requiring any visuals. Lights Out (radio show) has been cited as an influence for Brewer, as was listening to concept albums and following their track listings to outline his stories and novels as a teenager. Storytellers Telling Stories wrapped with its series finale in August 2019, bringing together 27 different writers reading the work of author Traci Foust, as Foust had passed away the previous year.

He studied in Method acting in the 1960s, a technique which involves total immersion into a character's life, experiences, habits and outlook, and parallels this propensity for in depth research. He has made links between this training and his approach to developing his fictional characters. In the case of his novel Bad Medicine, which includes a character who is a Native American medicine man, he spent a year with the Sioux People, and participated in traditional ceremonies. He advocates the development of writing technique through rigorous writing workshops, where emerging writers are guided by established writers, which he feels is a fast track to gaining a professional writing style.

In September 2014, Rophé became musical director of the Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire. In 2016, he recorded with the orchestra works by Dutilleux to mark the composer's centenary, including Le Loup, 3 Sonnets de Jean Cassou and Fille du Diable. He conducted the BBC's celebration of the centenary called Total Immersion Day: the Magical Soundworld of Henri Dutilleux, selecting five pieces: Tout un monde lointain ..., Métaboles, a concerto for orchestra, the string quartet Ainsi la nuit, The Shadows of Time for three children's voices and orchestra, and Le temps l'horloge for soprano and orchestra. Rophé was re- appointed as orchestra director in 2017 for three years.

Within five years of graduation, more than 60 percent of Monmouth alumni attend graduate school or another form of ongoing education. A survey taken six months after the class of 2012 had graduated, showed that 99% of Monmouth graduates were employed (or were in graduate school); the 2013 and 2014 surveys also showed 99%. Other concepts integral to the Monmouth College curriculum is the concept of total immersion and the power of the entire college experience to provide transformative development for the student. Accordingly, the college provides extensive out- of-the-classroom opportunities for students to develop and to interact with as many other disciplines as possible.

Long Tom, St Cleer Common Trethevy Quoit is a megalithic chamber tomb, and the Doniert Stone an inscribed stone of the Brittonic Anglo- Saxon period. Near the churchyard is St Cleer's holy well with a small building covering it, built of granite in the 15th century, to allow for a bowssening pool for total immersion. Arthur Langdon (1896) recorded five Cornish crosses in the parish; one called Long Tom is at St Cleer Common, another is at St Cleer's Well and a cross at Trevorgy is missing. There are also two stones at Redgate of which one is the Doniert Stone and the other is known at the Other Half Stone.

But the rapid industrializing and growth of coal and iron brought many poor farmers out of agriculture into much better paying industrial jobs, thus providing a better financial base for the Nonconformists. Local rates (taxes) funded the Anglican churches. By the 1880s, over 350,000 men and women were officially members of one of the four main Nonconformist denominations, and there were also larger numbers of "adherents" who attended services and other chapel-based activities but were not officially recorded as members. While there were some differences between the denominations, such as the Baptists' insistence on total immersion, these were less significant by the later 19th century than previously.

He had previously had misgivings about the baptism of children, and while in the United States he came under the influence of the "Disciples of Christ", whose tenets included adult baptism by total immersion. He was baptised by its founder Alexander Campbell (1788–1866) at Bethany, Virginia on 6 August 1854. He continued to England, where he prepared his book The Australian Colonies for publication. On his return to South Australia after more than a year's absence, he lectured at the Bible Christian Church, whose views on baptism were similar to his own, at their chapel in Franklin Street (later known as Maughan Church).

White Plains: Longman The language of instruction was German. The first students were admitted to kindergarten and first grade immersion classrooms; the program grew by one grade level per school year as these original students progressed to the next grade, so that by 1996 Bruns Avenue Elementary had a K-5 total immersion program in place, with a complementary late immersion component for students entering in 2nd and 3rd grade. After the initial success of the Bruns Avenue program, immersion programs were set up at other schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district. An early immersion program in French was started at Reid Park Elementary in 1994.

According to SPLC: > [Iron March] became home base for those who were personally invested in neo- > Nazism, fascism and organized white extremism on a global scale ... through > total immersion in Mason's teleology, now, they are challenging the > established far-right and far-left with their eagerness to perpetrate > violence. In 2016, posters urging students to visit the Iron March website were posted on university campuses, including those of Boston University, Old Dominion University, and the University of Chicago. These posters included racist and antisemitic slogans, including "#Hitler Disapproves", "No Degeneracy, No Tolerance, Hail Victory", and "Black Lives Don't Matter". The website closed in November 2017; the reasons for its closure remain unclear in 2020.

Etching is the immersion of the part into the chemical bath, and the action of the chemical on the part to be milled. The time spent immersed in the chemical bath determines the depth of the resulting etch; this time is calculated via the formula: :E = \frac s t where E is the rate of etching (usually abbreviated to etch rate), s is the depth of the cut required, and t is the total immersion time. Etch rate varies based on factors such as the concentration and composition of the etchant, the material to be etched, and temperature conditions. Due to its inconstant nature, etch rate is often determined experimentally immediately prior to the etching process.

Southern Cross Campus was founded by Terry Bates (MA (Hons), MPhil (Hons), DipTchg (NZ)), the first Campus Director of the school. It now comprises four schools: Southern Cross Junior School (Primary, Years 1–6), Southern Cross Middle School (Intermediate, Years 7–9), Southern Cross Senior School (Years 10–13), and Te Kura Maori o Nga Tapuwae (a total-immersion school for Māori-language education, Years 1–13). In 2019, it was announced that after 13 years as Principal, Mr Robin Staples would retire at the end of Term 1 in the 2020 school year. He was succeeded at the beginning of Term 2 by Dr Samantha Smith, a former associate principal at Massey High School.

The Hamilton's Invaders was a 1964 series of plastic toys of giant insect type monsters, toy soldiers and vehicles. The toyline was conceived and marketed by Remco on television during the early 1960s, inspired by the giant insect (see List of natural horror films) genre that were popular from the 1950s, that were in reruns on TV. A child could propel the giant insect toys via pull- string motors towards blue soldiers while counter-attacking with heavy motorized artillery and helicopters. Remco also produced a bug-eyed helmet and grenade pistol which the child could wear for total immersion in the play- acting scenario. It is not known how the name "Hamilton" was decided upon.

Better Than Life is a game which allows the user to live out all their fantasies and desires. When in the game, one has the ability to mentally command into existence any object, person or environment. The problem with the game in the TV series, however, is that it also detects subconscious desires: if the user subconsciously hates himself then the game will eventually detect this and subject them to specifically tailored masochistic tortures. Total Immersion Video Games - though not specifically Better Than Life - are later encountered in the Series 5 episode 'Back to Reality', in which a group hallucination makes the Dwarf crew believe that the previous four years had been a video game fantasy.

It is disputed where immersion was necessarily total. Tischler and the Encyclopedia of Catholicism say that the immersion was total. The same encyclopedia of Roman Catholicism notes that the preference of the Early Church was total immersion in a stream or the sea or, if these were not available, in a fountain or bath-sized tank, and Eerdman's Handbook to the History of Christianity says that baptism was normally by immersion, without specifying whether total or partial. The Dictionary of the Bible (2004) says "Archaeological evidence from the early centuries shows that baptism was sometimes administered by submersion or immersion... but also by affusion from a vessel when water was poured on the candidate's head...".

Sgoil Ghàidhlig an Àrd-Bhaile (The Gaelic Language Society of Halifax) promotes, provides, and supports community-based, authentic Nova Scotia Gaelic language learning, within a cultural context, for people of all ages in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Sgoil Ghàidhlig’s immersion courses utilize a methodology known as "Total Immersion Plus (TIP)", which was introduced to Nova Scotia by Finlay MacLeod of Comhairle nan Sgoiltan Àraich, the Scottish Gaelic Preschools Association. Immersion courses of this type are also known as Gàidhlig aig Baile, or "Gaelic in the Community". Gàidhlig aig Baile instruction is currently offered in numerous Nova Scotian communities, and Sgoil Ghàidhlig an Àrd Bhaile offers the most extensive course timetables in the province.

The opera opens in a convent at night, the protagonist, Susanna, lying in prayer in front of an altar. She is approached by a number of figures, the most prominent of whom is Sister Clementia, who states that Susanna is sick, and ‘scarcely live[s] on this earth any longer’. The dialogue is underpinned by a high pedal in the organ, and - in conjunction with conventionally extra- musical sounds such as that of belfry bells, - heightens one's sense of total immersion, and helps reinforce the ritualistic and religious themes. Susanna finds herself increasingly seduced and overpowered, initially by the sweet scents and sounds entering through the chapel window, but soon by the physical presence of her maid-servant, and her lover.

Language immersion in school contexts delivers academic content through the medium of a foreign language, providing support for L2 learning and first language maintenance. There are three main types of immersion education programs in the United States: foreign language immersion, dual immersion, and indigenous immersion. Foreign language immersion programs in the U.S. are designed for students whose home language is English. In the early immersion model, for all or part of the school day elementary school children receive their content (academic) instruction through the medium of another language: Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, etc. In early total immersion models, children receive all the regular kindergarten and first grade content through the medium of the immersion language;Kho, Mu-Jeong (2016).

The baptistery in the Dura church was about 1m square and 1m deep; baptismal candidates could stand in it, but could not be immersed. Catweazle (Geoffrey Bayldon) is an eccentric 11th-century wizard who accidentally (by total immersion in water) travels through time. In the first series he arrives in the year 1969 and befriends a red-headed teenager, Edward Bennet, nicknamed Carrot (Robin Davies), who spends most of the rest of the series attempting to hide Catweazle from his father (Bud Tingwell) and the farmhand Sam (Neil McCarthy). Catweazle searches for a way to return to his own time while hiding out in a disused water tower, which he calls Castle Saburac, with his familiar, a toad called Touchwood. The second series featured a 12-part riddle that Catweazle, transported to the 1970s, attempts to solve at the rate of one clue an episode, the solution (as he thinks) being revealed in the 13th.

He argues that organizing tribally can start well before any kind of total immersion "back into the wild" and that a new tribal community does not have to look like the old tribal stereotype of "cavemen," since returning immediately to foraging in the natural community is not a viable or even possible solution for the billions of people on Earth today. The three immersion academies provide an intensive experience and unique challenge for students who have excelled in language study to continue their study of that language in a total immersion environment, which is generally unavailable in the regular school environment. The Latin Academy provides an intensive experience for students who have excelled in the study of Latin to continue their study in a milieu unavailable in the regular school environment and introduces the students to classical Greek. The partial-immersion programs in Japanese and Russian, as well as the STARTALK programs in Chinese and Arabic, provide an opportunity for interested students to be introduced to these cultures and languages, which are not widely taught across the Commonwealth. Beginning with the summer of 2011, the Commonwealth of Virginia ceded sponsorship of the Russian Academy to Virginia Commonwealth University.

Joslin was an educator at heart and advocated total immersion of his patients and families in classroom education. He felt that careful monitoring of diabetes that rendered good control would allow the patient to avoid chronic complications of diabetes along with prevention of acute acidosis. According to accounts of some Modern Stoics, negative visualization has been adopted by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and similar psycho-social approaches to psychotherapy, a claim supported by some licensed psychologists although it has mostly been adopted by pop psychologists in the Anglosphere. Unlike the general focus of creative visualization of inducing an imaginary positive psychological and physiologic response, negative visualization focuses on training the Stoic practitioner on the negative outcomes of realistic life scenarios in order to desensitize or create psychological fitness in preparation for real-life losses and also to induce feelings of gratitude towards the real things or actual status that the practitioner has. The severeness of Negative visualization range from as mild as thinking of the loss of a minor inconvenience, e.g. having to abandon a minor pleasure, to as severe as total immersion in an imagined scenario in which the worst fear(s) of the practitioner has (have) really occurred, e.g.

The combination of the historical-voice narration and naval terms may seem daunting at first to some readers; but most note that after a short while a "total immersion" effect results. Of the dozens of Strict Baptist causes established in Sussex over the years, the majority had their origins in the type of Independent Calvinism practised at Five Ash Down. A year after Five Ash Down Chapel opened, its congregation became divided on the subject of baptism. Members who held the stricter view that only a confession of faith followed by total immersion baptism could permit membership broke away and formed a separate gathering at Lephams (or Leaphams) Bridge Farm east of Five Ash Down. A Strict Baptist church was constituted at this location on 15 May 1785, and meetings continued there for just over three years. In 1788, the congregation obtained the lease in copyhold form of a piece of land at the north end of Uckfield High Street. (Uckfield was at the time a large village on the brink of expansion into a market town.) A permanent chapel, Uckfield Baptist Church, was built; it was opened on 22 February 1789 by Henry Brooker, the founder of Bethel Strict Baptist Chapel, Wivelsfield, Joseph Middleton from a chapel in Lewes and Thomas Dicker—son of the founder of Five Ash Down Chapel.
