There were not too many recognisable winners in Thai-Boxing at Skopje although Vitaly Gurkov had won a number of amateur world championships with various organizations prior to this event and would go on to win a K-1 regional tournament as a pro.
Roberto Cocco (born May 16, 1977) is an Italian super middleweight Muay Thai kickboxer and boxer, fighting out of Dojo Miura in his home town of Turin, Italy. He is a former three time I.S.K.A. kickboxing world champion and one time World Kickboxing Network (W.K.N.) Thai-boxing world Champion.

Ruqsana Begum (; born 15 October 1983) is an English professional kickboxer and boxer. She was a British and World Kickboxing Association female Atomweight (48–50 kg) Muay Thai boxing champion and captain of the British Muay Thai Team. In March 2018, Begum made the switch from professional kickboxing to boxing.
Edler defended the All Japan title several times and abandoned it. Other popular champions were Toshio Fujiwara and Mitsuo Shima. Most notably, Fujiwara was the first non-Thai to win an official Thai boxing title, when he defeated his Thai opponent in 1978 at Rajadamnern Stadium winning the lightweight championship bout.

He graduated from Vajiravudh College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in law from Thammasat University.

Alberto Crane founded Gracie Barra in Encino, California, in January, 2009, Gracie Barra Pasadena in 2010 and Gracie Barra Burbank in 2011. The Academy focuses on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai Boxing. He now has founded LEGACY Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Burbank, California where he teaches and trains.

Konklak Suphisara () (born January 18, 1996), best known professionally as Loma Lookboonmee (), is a Thai martial artist who has competed in Muay Thai, boxing, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts. Then on 31 October 1999 in Leicester, England, Simon Dore re-matched Sheldon Schutzler who was now the WKN Intercontinental heavyweight Thai boxing champion. Dore won the bout by unanimous decision after 5 rounds. Dore had his second K-1 bout on 16 April 2000 at K-1: UK Battle of Britain 2000 in Birmingham, England against UK MMA pioneer Lee Hasdell.

Sarah Avraham (; born 1993/1994) is an Indian-born Israeli Muay Thai kickboxer. She converted to Judaism and moved to Israel after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Avraham was the 2012 Israeli women's champion in Thai boxing, in the weight class. She is also the 2014 World Muaythai Federation pro-am women's world champion in the 57–63.5 kg (125–140 lbs) class.

Amy Pirnie began training in muay thai and kickboxing at 12 years old when she met her current coach Rab Izat at the Phoenix Thai Boxing Club in Glasgow. Parinya Charoenphol (; ), born 9 June 1981, nicknamed Toom,; also known by the stage name Parinya Kiatbusaba; and the colloquial name Nong Toom,; ; meaning 'Lil Sis Toom' is a Thai boxer, former muay Thai (Thai boxing) champion, model and actress. She was a kathoey, a Thai word for a pre- operative transgender woman. At the age of 18, she underwent sex reassignment surgery.

Mindaugas Gedminas was born on 13 September 1996 in Šiauliai, Lithuania. He is of Lithuanian origin and has a younger brother. Lee Hasdell founded the Combudo organisation in 2000, and has staged many amateur events since. In 2008, he promoted a professional Combudo event featuring bouts under K-1, kickboxing and Thai boxing rules. The second professional event was held in 2009, and featured mixed martial arts matches. Combudo specialises in modern Japanese Hybrid Budo Martial Arts and fuses together the ethics and spirituality of traditional budo with modern style self-defence and combat sports.

Naima Bayari () was a Moroccan Muay Thai kickboxer, who was born in Fez, Morocco, and moved to Nador to practice her sport. She died on November 13, 2012, after a gas leak occurred in her residence in the Al-Kindi neighborhood of Nador. She belonged to the country league Kick Sport Thai Boxing, and she won several Moroccan championships for the Muayi Tai twice, and has participated in many international meetings in Spain and Italy.
Outside of fighting, he is also an instructor of mixed martial arts and self-defense. Wiratchai has termed his own fighting style the "OneShin Striking System", which is based on "attacking opponents who leave themselves vulnerable". While mostly based on striking, this style also incorporates elements of judo and kung fu. When he turned pro in MMA, he later applied elements of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing and wrestling into his style.

With the contract signed, Chow hastily arranged a meeting with his Golden Harvest executives and an old friend called Ma Thien-Ek (Fatty Ma), a Thai businessman, film distributor and cinema owner. Cyril Benzaquen started boxing at the age of 14 in the Châtillon club alongside Aurélien Duarte. He specializes in Thai boxing. Although he started boxing at 14, he will not be able to fight until he is 18, with his parents and his club opposed. On September 15, 2006, Vegeta made a guest appearance in a chapter of the Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo manga, Super Kochikame, entitled . Vegeta appears in the Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru manga in Chapter 178. Two characters go to a restaurant that features live Muay Thai boxing and Vegeta is in the background cheering. Igor Jurković (born 15 July 1985) is a Croatian heavyweight kickboxer fighting out of Poreč, Croatia. He was 6 times Croatian national champion 2004, 2005, 2006 in Thai boxing, and kickboxing champion 2005 in full contact, 2005 and 2006 in low kick rules, and also was sparring partner of Mirko Cro Cop. He has fought in K-1 and he is under contract with Glory promotion. Since of 2 November 2015, he is ranked the #8 light heavyweight in the world by GLORY.
Muay Thai athlete wearing a Mongkon Mongkon ( ) is a type of headgear worn by Muay Thai athletes. The Mongkhon is given to a boxer after their trainer saw that the student had become an experienced fighter and learned a great deal of knowledge about Muay Thai. The Mongkhon was never to be, in any way, close to the ground or else they believed it would lose its worth. The Mongkhon is unique to Thai boxing and not worn in Cambodia or Burma.

Willie Garvin's exposition from In the Beginning (1966) Thai-boxing in Saigon Willie Garvin is a character in the long-running British comic strip series Modesty Blaise, as well as a series of novels based upon the strip. The character was created by Peter O'Donnell in 1963 and, alongside Modesty Blaise, made his first appearance in the story La Machine, appearing for the first time in strip no. 21. Willie Garvin also appears in every volume of the Modesty Blaise book series.
While the movie was being made, the master Thai boxer King Charles sends Bruce a letter of challenge. Bruce happily accepts the challenge but spends some time first to learn about Thai Boxing. He also tells King Charles that their duel will be filmed, and if Bruce won, he will get to use the footage in The Big Boss. The first AJKA Commissioner was Shintaro Ishihara, the longtime Governor of Tokyo. Champions were in each weight division from fly to middle. Longtime Ilyushiner Noboru Osawa won the AJKA bantamweight title, which he held for years. Raymond Edler, an American university student studying at Sophia University in Tokyo, took up kickboxing and won the AJKC middleweight title in 1972; he was the first non-Thai to be officially ranked in the sport of Thai boxing, when in 1972 Rajadamnern ranked him no. 3 in the Middleweight division.
Uhm was ex President of Kukkiwon and currently President of Chung Do Kwan. Massar travelled extensively throughout Asia and the Far East from 1979 to 1984. He became friends with Kong Fu Tak while training in the YMCA in the mid seventies. They decided to travel all over Asia and the Far East and it was during these travels that they became involved in Muay Thai and Massar was instrumental in helping Kong Fu TakKF1 retrieved 24 Sept 2013 take Thai Boxing to Hong Kong.
As professionals, they wear no protective gear except for gloves, cup, and mouthpiece, and "Professional Sanda" allows knee and elbow strikes (including to the head) as well as kicking, punching and throwing. Some Sanda fighters have participated in fighting tournaments such as K-1, Muay Thai, boxing and Shoot Boxing. They have had some degree of success, especially in Shoot Boxing competitions, which is more similar to Sanda. Due to the rules of kickboxing competition, Sanda fighters are subjected to more limitations than usual.
Gashi arrived in Germany as a six-year-old Albanian refugee. W.A.K.O. World Championships 1999 were the joint twelfth world kickboxing championships (the other was held the same year in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) hosted by the W.A.K.O. organization. It was the fifth championships (world and European) to be held in Italy and was open to amateur men and women from fifty countries across the world. There were five categories available at Caorle, much more than at the previous European championships. The categories on offer included; Full-Contact, Thai-Boxing (men only), Light-Contact, Semi-Contact and Musical Forms.

Valentin Slavikovski's victory in the international tournament in Muay Thai and classic boxing at the Sports Palace in Minsk, Belarus, proved himself to be a bright and promising fighter. The tournament brought crowds of professional fighters, fans and entertainment professionals to the fight featuring Slavikovski, and Ukrainian Thai boxing champion, Roman Cricklya. Slavikovski battled his worthy opponent, each delivering crushing blows and keeping the audience on their feet throughout. The heavyweight's fight finally came to an end with Slavikovski and his expertly timed moves and techniques winning the fight.
In the heat of the battle which Thong Di fought with daab song mue (two handed swords) and after many fierce engagements he slipped and used one of his swords to control himself by pointing it into the ground, as he leaned on the sword it broke in half. Thong Di used his Thai boxing techniques. One dap and one broken one, he led his army to victory forcing the Burmese back across the border. As a result of this battle he was known as "Phraya Pichai Daap Hak".

Upon completing his bachelor's degree in Physical Education at Angthong University, Phon Martdee moved to Australia to open a martial arts centre known as "Muay Thai Boxing Promotions" or best known as "Phon's Gym" under the guidance of the Professional Boxing Association of Thailand (PAT) in 1989. At this time there were little known authentic Muay Thai gyms in Australia. Martdee began training groups of youths and adults interested in the newly founded ring sport. Martdee then began staging local events placing his fighters up against local BJC, boxing and kickboxing opponents.

Mantak Chia was born to a Chinese family in Thailand in 1944. He was raised in a Christian family; his father was a Baptist minister. He began studying the Buddhist method of "stilling the mind" at the age of six, and later he studied Muay Thai boxing, T'ai chi ch'uan, Kung Fu and Taoist and Buddhist meditation practices from several masters. Since The Curse, he has edged away from alcohol and drugs and has since found fitness and training to be a more suitable way to relieve anxiety and stress. When Choi was a young boy, he loved to practice Thai boxing and would always be running away without his parents knowing, to train in the art. He trained with many teachers of that time. One day, Choi left home northernwards and met with a boxing instructor named Thiang (th: เที่ยง) at Wat Ban Kaeng (th: วัดบ้านแก่ง). Choi then became a beloved student of Instructor Thiang and renamed as Thong Di (th: ทองดี), his instructor called him as Master Thong Di Fan Khao (th: ทองดีฟันขาว; means: Thong Di whose teeth are white) as he did not chew betel nut.
Gitte Haenen (born 23 March 1986) is a Belgian Paralympic athlete who competes in 100 metres and long jump events in international level events. She is also a former paratriathlete and Thai boxer competing in an elite level. In 2010, Haenen was involved in an accident in a Thai boxing training session. She was accidentally kicked in the left knee which tore her anterior cruciate ligament and had to have many operations and rehabilitation, however in 2014, her left knee worsened and Haenen suffered with chronic pain and nerve damage and was prescribed morphine for her injury.
W.A.K.O. European Championships 2006 in Skopje were the joint eighteenth European kickboxing championships held by the W.A.K.O. organization (the other event was held the previous month in Lisbon). It was the first event to be held in the country of Republic of Macedonia and was organized by the nation's kickboxing president Ljupčo Nedelkovski, involving (mainly) amateur men and women from 31 countries across Europe. There were three styles on offer at Skopje; Low-Kick, Thai-Boxing and Light-Contact. The other usual W.A.K.O. styles (Full/Semi Contact, Aero-Kickboxing and Musical Forms) were held at the earlier event in Lisbon.

Roberto started learning martial arts aged six in his home town of Turin. He began with Judo but would soon progress to kickboxing despite initial attempts by his parents to discourage him. Interview With Dan Inosanto In 1983 Inosanto introduced Sirisute to Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys who soon incorporated Muay Thai into their pre-season conditioning with Sirisute as their instructor until the time of Landry's departure in 1990.Kelly(2000). pp.133-138 Sirisute currently runs a Muay Thai camp in Oregon each year with more than 200 students from around the world attending. He founded the Thai Boxing Association of the USA in 1968 and has expanded it to more than 18 countries around the world. He maintains a busy seminar schedule traveling around the world teaching Muay Thai today.
Additionally, it has been revealed that the United States paid Morocco USD $20 million to build a secret detention centre sometime in 2004–2006. In 2010, Zakaria Moumni a former Moroccan Thai boxing champion, was arrested upon entering Morocco and was abducted by DST agents. He later revealed that he was tortured and then imprisoned on trumped-up charges, on instructions from Mounir Majidi (the secretary of king Mohammed VI) and the head of the DST Abdellatif Hammouchi. In the same year Ali Aarras, a Belgian citizen, was extradited to Morocco from Spain where he was cleared of terrorism charges because of lack of evidence.

Baszler, a Khun Kru in the Muay Thai boxing association and a Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, wanted to begin incorporating Josh Barnett's catch wrestling into her MMA training. This proved to be somewhat difficult because she could not train with Barnett in Southern California, so Barnett wrote a syllabus and filmed a video to teach her the step-by-step techniques and concepts of catch wrestling and give her tips on how to improve her verbal skills. Barnett suggested that Baszler carry an electric guitar to the cage to show that she was outspoken. Baszler reluctantly agreed, and the guitar became a signature of her rockstar-like persona.
However, the rules also implicitly acknowledge that attacks on vulva are less painful and dangerous than attacks on the testicles by requiring male competitors to wear groin protectors and prohibiting female competitors from wearing groin protection. Testicle attacks were, however, allowed until the 1980s in international Thai boxing (Muay Thai) and are still permitted in Thailand itself (though the boxers wear cups to lessen the impact.) Lumpinee Boxing Stadium The well-known Lumpinee Boxing Stadium originally sited at Rama IV Road near Lumphini Park hosted its final Muay Thai boxing matches on 8 February 2014 after the venue first opened in December 1956. Managed by the Royal Thai Army, the stadium was officially selected for the purpose of muay Thai bouts following a competition that was staged on 15 March 1956. From 11 February 2014, the stadium will relocate to Ram Intra Road, due to the new venue's capacity to accommodate audiences of up to 3,500. Foreigners typically pay between 1,000 and 2,000 baht to view a match, with prices depending on the location of the seating.
The Lao Isan people are aware of their Lao ethnic origin, but Isan has been incorporated as a territory into the modern Thai state through over one hundred years of administrative and bureaucratic reforms, educational policy, and government media. Despite this, since the election of Thaksin Shinawatra as prime minister in the 2001 Thai general election, the Lao Isan identity has reemerged, and the Lao Isan are now the main ethnolinguistic group involved in the pro-Thaksin "Red Shirt movement" of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship. Several Thai prime ministers have come from the region. Richa Gaur (born December 10, 1993) is an Indian martial arts player and self- defense coach who has been honored and felicitated as one of the "Top 100 Women Achievers of India" by the Former President of India and Maneka Gandhi in the field of women's empowerment. She is an international gold and bronze medalist in martial arts. She has been called the "Muay Thai Queen of India" for her gold hat trick in Muay thai championship. Gaur is an Asian Olympic Games qualifier (Muay Thai Boxing), bronze medalist in World championship, gold medalist in South Asian Championship (Taekwondo), gold medalist in Kukkiwon Korean Cup and seven-time national gold medalist of India.
Focus mitts are often used as an augment to sparring, with more explicit focus on the puncher than the feeder, especially to develop good punch combinations and defensive maneuvers such as "slipping," "bobbing" and "weaving." When wearing focus mitts it is important not merely to hold them but to actively "feed" them into the punches, to balance their force and prevent injury to both parties. Similar to a focus mitt but designed for different purposes are heavier Thai pads used in muay Thai boxing and MMA, kicking shields, body shields and uppercut shields used in a variety of martial arts to help gauge distance and practice techniques with kicks, knees, elbows and uppercuts.

A fighter hit with his opponent's knee According to Thai folklore, at the time of the fall of the ancient Siamese capital of Ayutthaya Kingdom in 1767, the invading Burmese troops rounded up thousands of Siamese citizens. They then decided to organize a seven-day, seven-night religious festival in honor of Buddha's relics. The festivities included many forms of entertainment, such as the costume plays called likay, comedies and farces, and sword-fighting matches. At one point, King Hsinbyushin wanted to see how Thai boxing would compare to their Lethwei. Nai Khanomtom was selected to fight against the King’s chosen champion, and the boxing ring was set up in front of the throne.

Growing up in his home town of Eindhoven, Ali started training in Kyokushin karate at the age of five with his older brother (and now trainer) Suleyman, taking up also Thai-boxing at the age of eight.
