Sacred Heart Junior College was established in 1999 to offer tertiary-level education opportunities in the Cayo District, Belize. When it was first established, it offered Network Administration, International Business, Biology, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Marketing and Tourism Management, of which the Tourism Management, Environmental Science, Network Administration and Computer Technician programmes were trailblazing programmes within Belize. In the late 1980s, UP Cebu High School was under threat of closure due to budget issues. To avert this threat, the school adopted a policy of democratized admission for students in the high schools of the UP System. This was initially implemented during the school year 1989-1990 and was fully implemented during the school year 1990-1991. Under this concept, "every high school in UP is a program for helping economically disadvantaged but deserving students gain access to tertiary level education in UP." University college is the most widely used official English translation in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, although some such institutions use the term university in English instead (for instance Södertörn University). The terminology may be confusing to foreigners as university colleges are not constituent colleges of another university as some may understand the word literally, but rather institutions in their own right and standing. The Swedish term högskola and the Norwegian term høyskole, høgskole or høgskule would mean "high school" in a word-by-word translation. This translation is also misleading, as these institutions provide tertiary level education, not secondary education as American high schools do.

The University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) became operational in 2000. This institution was established with the intention of providing quality tertiary-level education to Berbicians and those resolved to expanding their intellectual and social experiences. During its early stages, UGBC offered two-year undergraduate certificate programmes in education (various options) and diploma programmes in accountancy, English, history, marketing, public management and social work. Degree programmes were subsequently offered: the degree in agriculture and the associate degree in general science (various options) were offered in the 2001-2002 academic year, and degrees in public management and education as well as the post-graduate diploma in education were offered in the 2002-2003 academic year.

In 1921, the Cheshire School of Agriculture opened at Reaseheath, near Nantwich, offering tertiary-level education in agriculture for the first time. By the early years of the century, milk was beginning to overtake cheese as the main dairy product, mainly to supply the large urban centres close to the county's borders. Milk production required more intensive farming practices; the introduction of tuberculin-tested milk in 1923 and the drive towards increased hygiene also led to changes, including the replacement of traditional shorthorn cattle with Ayrshires and later Friesians, and the gradual adoption of milking machines. Surplus milk production was a problem until the 1930s; it was a major concern of the local branch of the National Farmers Union, founded early in the century, until the creation of the Milk Marketing Board in 1933, which guaranteed a fair minimum price.
