Admission to see these curiosities or exhibits required an extra fee. Some sideshows featured a single exhibit, but some had multiple acts or exhibits under one tent (slang term: Ten-in-One). Human acts may include people with multiple arms or legs, midgets, extremely tall people, obese people, people born with facial or other deformities, and tattooed people.

Clem explains that geeks are "made": a sideshow owner finds an alcoholic bum and offers him a temporary job with a steady supply of liquor. Carnival Diablo the Ultimate Sideshow is an award winning travelling sideshow operating primarily in Spencerville Ontario, Canada. Performances by the troupe follow a traditional Ten-in-One format featuring such acts as fire- eating, sword swallowing and a human blockhead, with show times lasting two and a half hours. Carnival Diablo opened on April Fools' Day 1992 by Scott McClelland, whose family goes back three generations in the carnival and side show business. Shows have been performed across Canada, including shows at The Calgary Stampede, Edmonton's Klondike Days (now K-Days,) Regina's Buffalo Days, and the Canadian Tulip Festival.

In recent years, Carnival Diablo has evolved from a stage show embodying the look and feel of a 19th-century Victorian sideshow to a performance tinged with more sinister and otherworldly subtext. Today, the Sideshow features various performers fulfilling the Ten-in-One act. Nikolai Diablo Leading the show, Scott McClelland eats razor blades, drinks boiling water, pierces his tongue with a hook and plays Russian Roulette with a nine- inch construction spike, among other amazing feats. Richart de Semilli (floruit late 12th or early 13th century) was a trouvère, probably from Paris, which he mentions three times in his extant works. These number ten in one chansonnier (with a few also copied into related manuscripts), and one anonymous song, "", which has sometimes been attributed to him by modern scholars, but of which most of the first strophe and music are missing. Unusually for a trouvère, Richart used the same poetic structure and melody for his "" and "", and also for "" and "". Even within his pieces his melodies make heavy use of repetition, another departure from what was typical of the trouvères.

They recorded their last EP, Call and Response, in a frigidly cold farmhouse basement with the engineer Justin Trosper of Unwound. Although the band had associations with the riot grrrl movement (Vail's sister is Bikini Kill's Tobi Vail), Bangs did not regard itself as a riot grrrl band and preferred the term "rock band", crediting The Go-Go's, The Ramones, and Cheap Trick as inspirations. All of the band's releases were on Kill Rock Stars except for one single, released on Olympia label Ten-In-One Records. CARE's food aid took the form of CARE Packages, which were at first delivered to specific individuals: the US people paid $10 to send a CARE Package of food to a loved one in Europe, often a family member. President Truman bought the first CARE package. CARE guaranteed delivery within four months to anyone in Europe, even if they had left their last known address, and returned a signed delivery receipt to the sender. Because European postal services were unreliable at the time these signed receipts were sometimes the first confirmation that the recipient had survived the war. The first CARE Packages were in fact surplus “Ten-in-One” US army rations packs (designed to contain a day's meals for ten people).
