After Khalid al-Qassimi had run into several problems while heading for career-best seventh place, the battle for the position was between two Norwegians who had had troublesome rallies, both losing about ten minutes and re-joining the event under SupeRally rules. Henning Solberg chased down Mads Østberg throughout the last day but only got within 0.6 seconds. Nasser Al-Attiyah edged out Patrik Sandell on the last stage to take the honours in the Production World Rally Championship, while the win in the Junior World Rally Championship went to Martin Prokop.

In Scotland, all undergraduate degrees with honours must be of four-year duration. Students can choose to do the honours degree or the general (or pass/ordinary) degree. The first two years of both types of degrees are the same; however, after that, students who pursue the honours route will complete more advanced subjects and a dissertation in their last year, while students who choose to do the general degree will complete their third year at a lower level of specialisation. Entry into the honours year in Scotland is generally not restricted and students are encouraged to take the honours year as the general/ordinary/pass degree does not provide the same level of depth and specialisation.

Paddy was part of the Down under 21 team that won 3 Ulster Under-21 Football Championship in a row 1977 1978 1979 Down made it the 2 finals of the All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship 1977 and 1979 Down were beat in 1977 by Kerry in the final. Down made it 2 Ulster Under-21s in a row beating Cavan for the 2nd year in a row in the final 0-11 to 1-06 Down were beat in the All-Ireland semi-final 1979 saw Down take the honours in Ulster for the 3rd year in a row beating Tyrone 1-09 to 0-05 Down would later win the All-Ireland beating Cork in the final 1-09 to 0-07 giving paddy his first and only All-Ireland Under-21 medal.
