Jepsen performing on Canada Day in 2010 While assembling a swing band, Jepsen was convinced to audition for Canadian Idol by her drama teacher. The band was formed in early 2010. Vocalist Chris Roetter, having sung for the bands Agraceful and Emarosa beforehand, formed Like Moths to Flames with four of the six members of Ohio metalcore band TerraFirma: Aaron Evans (who joined playing rhythm guitar before later moving to bass); Zach Huston (lead guitar); Aaron Douglas (bass); and Jordan Matz (drums). The band released their debut single titled "Dead Routine" on February 7, 2010. Prior to the release of debut EP Sweet Talker, they would release two more demos, "Avada Kedavra" and "Death Eaters".

Grizzly Man is the soundtrack album from the documentary Grizzly Man, produced by Richard Thompson and released in 2005. After the problematic production of the Sweet Talker soundtrack album, Thompson was disinclined to do any more movie soundtracks. However, he relented in this case, agreeing to work with director Werner Herzog whom he respected and with long-time friend and occasional collaborator Henry Kaiser producing the soundtrack. The soundtrack - with the exception of one song - was recorded in just two days with Thompson and the other musicians largely improvising to specific scenes from the movie whilst Herzog watched from the control room.

In mid-2011, This Century held their first headlining tour, the "Young and Useless Tour", with Cartel Hulsey and Austin Gibbs. Due to personal events, Austin Gibbs dropped halfway through the tour and singer-songwriter Sweet Talker replaced Gibbs on select dates. In June 2012, This Century played a show in Manila, Philippines together with We Are the In Crowd and Set Your Goals. "Everywhere Everything", a song from their debut album, Sound of Fire, made its way to the top of the charts in Manila for two weeks, while the song "Sound of Fire" also made its way to the top of the charts in June 2011.

Willie was one of two black men in the gang, the other being Louis Moss, who Willie referred to as a "sweet talker, who could take his foes apart".

On October 17, 2010 it was announced that Like Moths to Flames had been signed to Rise Records and were already working on their first EP. Two months later, the band released their EP titled Sweet Talker on December 14, 2010. To help support their new music, the band set out with fellow acts Texas in July and A Hero A Fake on the "A Metal Christmas" tour through late 2010. Sometime before their EP was released, drummer Jordan Matz left Like Moths to Flames, and was replaced by Lance Greenfield.

He was performing in London's West End as a jazz pianist while still in his teens, and rose to prominence as a musician during the 1970s as the musical director for Barbara Dickson, Sheena Easton, Gerry Rafferty, and Leo Sayer. Since then he has divided his efforts between writing scores for TV and film, and making documentary films, while also working with George Michael, Katrina and the Waves, Miriam Stockley and Elaine Paige. Film credits have included Sweet Talker (Taylor Hackford), The Clandestine Marriage (Sir Nigel Hawthorne) and one of 2006's Royal Premiere films, These Foolish Things, starring Lauren Bacall, Anjelica Huston and Terence Stamp.
