The Book was written by an insane vampire who could see the future; unfortunately, it also drives anyone reading it insane.

Having fled from Queen Vampire Morella, sweet-natured vampire Sugar and her mortal boyfriend Dex take Marvin the homunculus to Little Rock, Arkansas in an attempt to resurrect Marvin's now deceased son, the vampire slayer Ivan Burroughs. Dex and Sugar get a job in a seedy club in order to steal some blood from the King Vampire, which will hopefully being Ivan back to life- but at the expense that he would return as a vampire. At first, Ivan is furious that Dex brought him back. However, Dex and Ivan must band together to save Sugar, who is being offered up as a sacrifice to the King Vampire.

Lieutenant Kif Kroker (voiced by Maurice LaMarche) is the long-suffering assistant to Captain Zapp Brannigan, and Fourth Lieutenant on the Democratic Order of Planets (DOOP) starship Nimbus. Kif is a short and thin green-skinned alien from the planet Amphibios 9. His frustration with Brannigan's arrogance and general incompetence in Season 1 leads him to be a disaffected, indifferent, sardonic lackey, although his personality develops through the course of the series, becoming more emotional, tender and sweet- natured later on. Zapp thinks Kif to be his best friend and loyal confidant, whereas Kif sees Brannigan as an incompetent buffoon, going so far as to call him a jackass in "Love's Labours Lost in Space".

The authors of the book I Can't Believe It's a Bigger and Better Updated Unofficial Simpsons Guide, Warren Martyn and Adrian Wood, called it "a fabulous episode for Lisa and Bart, although with a special mention for a few seconds of tremendous Edna Krabappel wickedness". DVD Verdict's Ryan Keefer said the episode "is one of the few episodes centered on Lisa that I enjoy watching", and gave it a B+ grade. DVD Talk's Aaron Beierle said, "there are definitely some funny moments in this episode, the sweet-natured way that the episode ends never sat right with me". ESPN.com named this episode the fifth best sports moment in the history of the show.

In the anime, Oboro would frequently meet with Gennosuke along their clan's borders to practice a Japanese fan dance which they planned to perform for the guests at their wedding. Sweet natured with a gentle disposition, Oboro lacks any real talent for either martial arts or ninjutsu and is also a bit of a klutz. This, along with her love for Gennosuke has caused most of Iga to view Oboro as a black sheep, a fact she is painfully aware of. He also managed unusual and highly successful literary tricks: halfway through A Hell of a Woman, the first-person narrator Frank "Dolly" Dillon has a mental breakdown; the sides of his personality then take turns narrating the chapters, alternately violently psychotic (telling the sordid tale that happened) or sweet-natured and patient (telling the idealized fantasy that did not happen). In the final page of the original manuscript the two sides of Dillon's broken personality appear together as two columns of text.

When he's not wielding the bow as a weapon, the old man converts it into a musical instrument and plays it like a violin. The old man's arrangements start to come apart when the boat is visited by a fishing party that includes a sweet-natured student (Seo Ji-seok) who falls in love with the girl at first sight and is profoundly concerned about her situation. She, too, falls for him, and the old man starts to fear that his marriage day, carefully marked on his calendar, may never come to pass. She is divorced, living alone with her dog "Jim" (she even turned over Mike's old room to Jim) and often talks about her ex-husband, Jack, leaving her and running away with a "whore". Her longtime courtship of a sweet-natured and unsuccessful fellow Catholic named Dennis ended badly when she finally decided she was ready for them to have sex, only to realize he'd suffered a heart attack and died.

Disney was interested in recruiting a Broadway performer to voice Meg, instead of casting separate actors as the character's speaking and singing voices. At the time, Egan was starring on Broadway as Belle in the stage adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, a role she originated, and had been four months into her tenure when she learned of auditions for Meg. Despite strong interest in the role and assuming her professional relationship with the studio would benefit her prospects, Disney refused to let Egan audition, stating she was "not right" for the character, since the filmmakers felt Meg's "bad girl" personality was far too different from the kind, sweet-natured Belle for Egan to voice convincingly.

Liane Marie Cartman, originally voiced by Mary Kay Bergman and later by Eliza J. Schneider and April Stewart, is the generally sweet-natured mother of Eric Cartman; though in later seasons, she has been shown to be a more proactive mother who does not tolerate his antics or foul language. Her promiscuity, often with total strangers, was a running gag initially. It seemed as though all of the adults in South Park had slept with her (probably the women, too). Although in episode 7, she is indicated to be a "crack whore", she says in "The Poor Kid" that she has not done drugs in some time, and works two jobs, even though she and Eric are the second poorest family in South Park (at least of those whose children attend South Park Elementary) after Kenny McCormick's. It is first revealed that she is a hermaphrodite (and so is Eric's father), though in episode "201" it is revealed that Eric's real father is Jack Tenorman, the father of his nemesis Scott Tenorman a member of the 1991 Denver Broncos, and the ruse about her being a hermaphrodite was made up to maintain the Broncos’ reputation since “they were having a good year”.
