Future members of Even, Matthew Cotter on drums and Ashley Naylor on lead vocals and lead guitar, played music together at a high school in Melbourne. They formed an indie band, The Swarm, with Francis Leach on vocals and David Rowland on bass guitar. The Swarm issued three independent singles between November 1988 and April 1991 before disbanding. In March 1994 Cotter and Naylor were joined by Roderick "Wally" Kempton (also a member of The Meanies, as Wally Meanie) on bass guitar to form an indie guitar pop group, Even.

A Class C stellar engine, such as the Badescu-Cathcart engine, combines the two other classes, employing both the propulsive aspects of the Shkadov thruster, and the energy generating aspects of a Class B engine. A Dyson shell with an inner surface partly covered by a mirror would be one incarnation of such a system (although it suffers from the same stabilization problems as a non-propulsive shell), as would be a Dyson swarm with a large statite mirror (see image above). A Dyson bubble variant is already a Shkadov thruster (provided that the arrangement of statite components is asymmetrical); adding energy extraction capability to the components seems an almost trivial extension.

On September 23, 2004, around 2:00 a.m. PDT, Mount St. Helens experienced an earthquake swarm, with about 200 small (less than magnitude 1) earthquakes occurring less than one-half mile (one kilometer) below the 1980s lava dome. Activity increased, and on September 26, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network issued a "notice of volcanic unrest", stating that a "hazardous event" was possible, and the U.S. Forest Service closed the mountain to all climbing. They also closed some trails in the area, due to the risk of debris flows from the possible melting of the Crater Glacier in the volcanic crater. After releasing a cloud of steam on October 2, dust from landslides inside the crater could be observed for the rest of the afternoon.

By 1940, the Field Artillery School had permission to train its own fixed wing pilots as field artillery spotters. The Army Air Corps turned Post Field over to the FA School and the facility began to swarm with Grasshoppers and Bird Dogs (single-engine small spotter airplanes) – part of the Department of Air Training. (Cessna L-19/O-1 Bird Dog aircraft were not placed in military inventories until 1950.) The following month, Green Ant and Fire Ant, as The Colony, made their first tour of Japan with Osaka Pro, culminating in a match for the Osaka Pro Tag Team Championship, where they unsuccessfully challenged Atsushi Kotoge and Daisuke Harada. On November 13, at Chikara’s first internet-pay-per-view, High Noon, Green Ant ended his feud with Tursas by defeating him with his new finisher, the Chikara Special: Green. 2012 saw Green Ant, along with The Colony, and other top Chikara stars, start a feud with the Gekido group, with The Colony mainly focusing on the trio of assailANT, combatANT and deviANT, also known as the Swarm. For the 2012 King of Trios, Chikara’s Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur mixed members of the Colony with members of the Swarm, with Green Ant and Fire Ant being forced to team with assailANT as The Colony.

However, in response to this beacon, a massive swarm of Klyntar make their way to Earth from Venom's home planet for an invasion. Star-Lord, who with the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy, had worked with Spider-Man to deal with a prior Klyntar-related incident, sends Groot to Earth ahead of the swarm with a message to warn Peter about the impending invasion: Peter and Miles decode it with the help of Ironheart, Totally Awesome Hulk, and Doctor Strange, after they all rescue Groot from the clutches of A.I.M. and Baron Mordo. As the first wave of Klyntar makes planetfall, they use the Avengers they possessed on their way to Earth as their advance team to possess the heroes of Earth one-by-one, so the rest of the swarm can quickly do the same to the citizens of New York City, with only a few survivors including Spider-Man, Max, and Aunt May. Convincing Marc Spector to both resume his role as a hero and help him save the Earth, Spider-Man rescues the survivors.
