Midway through the 2019/20 season, the media speculated that Shalulile was being hunted by three of South Africa's biggest clubs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. This was all down to his mercurial performance in front of the goal. And indeed he finished the season as joint top goalscorer alongside Orlando Pirates' Gabadinho Mhango. At the end of that same 2019/20 season, the player and both Highlands Park F.C and Mamelodi Sundowns F.C confirmed that he has signed for the latter club.
Mnguni started his career at Mamelodi Sundowns, before joining Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow on a two-and-three-quarter year contract February 2002. The 1999–2000 Premier Soccer League, known as the 1999–2000 Castle Premiership for sponsorship purposes, was the fourth season of the Premier Soccer League since its establishment in 1996. The season began on 30 July 1999 and ended on 4 June 1999. Mamelodi Sundowns once again managed to secure their crown, sealing their third successive PSL title. Along with their success in the PSL's predecessor - winning three National Soccer League titles in 1988, 1990 and 1993 - this gave Mamelodi Sundowns their 6th South African championship.
He completed a move to Ajax Cape Town and this is perhaps where Dolly made a reputation for himself. During a spell at Ajax he won the Premier Soccer League Young Player award for the 2013–14 season. Rulani Mokwena is an South African professional football manager who is the assistant manager of Mamelodi Sundowns. The son of former Orlando Pirates player Julias Sono, and nephew to Jomo Sono, Mokwena hails from a footballing family and started his professional coaching career in the youth systems at Silver Stars, before serving as an assistant manager at Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates. In 2019, he became interim manager of the latter club, holding the position for five months, before being appointed as the head coach at Chippa United the following year.
Mike Manzini (born 29 November 1972 in Hoedspruit, Limpopo) is a South African former football (soccer) defender. He spent his entire career at Premier Soccer League club Mamelodi Sundowns and also played for South Africa. Manzini was Sundowns’ ever-reliable and efficient captain who made well over 250 appearances for the club. His good work in defence often went unnoticed by onlookers but it was a sign of his experience, composure and superb reading of the play that he very rarely found himself having to make a last-gasp tackle or clearance.
Born in Harare, Mushekwi started out playing for CAPS United in his homeland Zimbabwe. He won the top scorer award after scoring 21 league goals for the Harare giants in 2009 season. In 2010, he made the move to South African club Mamelodi Sundowns where he found immediate success when he became the second best goalscorer of the 2010–11 Premier Soccer League season. In April 2013, as his contract was nearing its end, Mamelodi Sundowns extended the deal with another year plus an option for an additional second year.
Nhivi's career started in Zimbabwe with Shooting Stars, he left Shooting Stars in 2011 to join CAPS United. His move to CAPS Utd led to a transfer outside his homeland for the first time as he agreed to join Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns. However, Nhivi's spell with the Sundowns was unsuccessful as he left in 2012 without making a single appearance. His next move was back to Zimbabwe to join Dynamos, a year later he left for South Africa again but this time joined SuperSport United.
Dário also played with Vitória S.C. and C.F. Estrela da Amadora in Portugal, with very little impact, after which he left to Cyprus with Nea Salamis Famagusta FC. In the following year he moved countries again, successively representing in South Africa Supersport United F.C. and Mamelodi Sundowns FC. In the summer of 2010, Dário was released by the Sundowns, stating he had offers from Angola and Greece. After any move failed to materialize he returned to his country and signed for reigning Moçambola champions Liga Muçulmana de Maputo, in late December.
In 1978, the Federation Professional League threw their weight behind the then National Professional Football League. This meant the end of the Federation Professional League and the subsequent relegation of Sundowns to the second division. For five years 'Downs battled to gain promotion and during that period the Sundowns' management resolved to disband the club, but instead the club relocated to Mamelodi in the early 1980s. In 1985, South African football was the first sport to become non-racial and the National Soccer League was formed, incorporating the top clubs in the country.

Luvhengo Mungomeni (born 18 February 1985 in Siloam, Transvaal) is a South African former soccer player who played as a defender. He played club football for Bush Bucks, Black Leopards, Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows and international football for South Africa.

Ahead of the 2008–09 season, the Kaizer Chiefs took part in the 2008 edition of the Vodacom Challenge, alongside Manchester United and Orlando Pirates.
After coaching the DR Congo national football team he took over Kaizer Chiefs FC in 1999. Ertuğral took Ajax Cape Town to ABSA Cup glory with a 2–0 victory against league champions Mamelodi Sundowns on May 26, 2007. That proved to be a successful season for Ajax under Ertuğral as they went on to finish fourth in the league and the only side never to suffer defeat against Sundowns in that season. On 8 May 2009 the Turkish coach has quit Kaizer Chiefs, but could remain in South Africa, where he is tracked by Ajax Cape Town.
He kicked his way into the history books in February 2007 when he pounced on the rebound, after Brian Baloyi of Mamelodi Sundowns could only parry his retaken spot kick and knocked the ball home from close range. The fact that Rowen had missed the kick and scored on the rebound meant that his thirty second-minute equaliser against Sundowns was not classified as a penalty, but instead it was recorded as a goal scored from open play. The other goal resulted from a spot kick in a match against his former club Wits in September 2006.

Mpho Gift Leremi (13 October 1984 – 3 September 2007) was a South African football midfielder who last played for Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League, and South Africa. Leremi died in a car crash on 3 September 2007 near Johannesburg, South Africa.
Having previously played for Manzini Wanderers, Manzini Sundowns and Mbabane Swallows, Sikhondze joined South African Premier Division side Polokwane City in the summer of 2018, initially on a one-year deal. In January 2020, Sikhondze left Polokwane City to join Mbombela United.
Thabo Nthethe (born 3 October 1984 in Bloemfontein, Free State) is a South African football defender who currently plays for Premier Soccer League club Chippa United and South Africa. He was previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns and was the captain of Bloemfontein Celtic.
Leandro Gastón Sirino Rodríguez (born February 22, 1991 in Montevideo, Uruguay) is an Uruguayan footballer currently playing for Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. He was assessed a two-match ban after being found guilty of assaulting both Clayton Daniels and Dean Furman in September 2019.
As a result of his achievements, Tau was courted by a number of European clubs during the off-season. Amidst the speculation surrounding his future, he refused to join Sundowns in the pre-season preparations in an attempt to force through a move.

Isaac Shai (born 26 February 1971) is a South African former footballer who played at both professional and international levels as a midfielder. Shai played club football for Mamelodi Sundowns; he also earned seven caps for the South African national side between 1997 and 2002.
Brent Carelse (born 30 March 1981) is a South African former soccer player who played as a midfielder. He played club football for Hellenic, Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, Supersport United, Chippa United and Cape Town All Stars and international football for South Africa.
Born in Alexandra, Mohlala turned professional with Wits University in 1992. After five seasons with Wits, he joined Mamelodi Sundowns. Following a failed move to F.C. Copenhagen, Mohlala forced a move to AmaZulu. Shortly after, he re- signed with Wits, before moving to Jomo Cosmos.
Sundowns tallied 75 points for the season, equalling the points record they jointly set with Kaizer Chiefs last season, but unlike the previous season in which the title was decided by goal difference, there was no close title race this season as Sundowns finished comfortably ahead of second placed Orlando Pirates with an 11-point margin. As before, the league was contested by 18 teams, sixteen returning from the 1997–98 season and two newly promoted clubs; the returning African Wanderers and Tembisa Classic. The league continued to run parallel to the European football calendar (August–May) and not run concurrently with the African football calendar (January–December).

This victory would be the first in a hat-trick of PSL titles for Sundowns, as the team from Pretoria would go on to dominate the league for the next two seasons.
Theodore "Ted" Dumitru (born Dumitru Teodorescu; 2 September 1939 - 26 May 2016) was a Romanian football manager who is best known for his time in South Africa. Dumitru was one of few coaches who have led South Africa's 'big three' clubs Kaizer Chiefs, Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Dumitru was brought to South Africa by the owner of Kaizer Chiefs, Kaizer Motaung, in 1985, Dumitru went on to become the most successful coach in South African professional football. The veteran coach had an illustrious career during which he amassed 18 trophies with Chiefs and Sundowns, including two back-to-back league championships with each side.
According to his coach, Gavin Hunt, Domingues was instrumental in that game. The win also meant he is now one of very few players to have won the Premier Soccer League title 4 times (with 3 different clubs), having also won 2 with Supersport United in 2007–08 Premier Soccer League and 2008–09 Premier Soccer League and 1 with Mamelodi Sundowns) in 2013–14 Premier Soccer League. Furthermore, the win also meant he successfully completed a League and Cup double, since Bidvest Wits also won the MTN 8 title earlier in the season, with a 3-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at the Mbombela Stadium, on 1 October 2016.
Having started his senior career at Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, he joined Black Leopards in the summer of 2018. His performances in the 2019–20 season attracted praise and interest from larger clubs. In the summer of 2020, Kapinga joined Mamelodi Sundowns on a five-year deal.

Brian Baloyi (born 16 March 1974 in Alexandra, Gauteng) is a retired South African football (soccer) goalkeeper. Baloyi made his professional debut in 1993. He joined league rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004 after playing for Kaizer Chiefs for over a decade. He is commonly nicknamed "Spiderman".
Themba Mnguni (born 16 December 1973) is a retired South African football player who played mostly for Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United. He played for South Africa national football team and was in part of the squad that travelled to France for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Gilbert Mushangazhike (born 11 August 1975 in Harare) is a Zimbabwean footballer. The association football striker recently played in Swaziland by Manzini Sundowns, in China by Jiangsu Sainty, for Germany-based Kickers Emden and in South Africa for Manning Rangers F.C., Orlando Pirates and Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Born in Mamelodi, Lebese spent his early career with Jusben, Khona Lapho and Arcadia Shepherds. Lebese joined Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2008–09 season. He signed for Mamelodi Sundowns in August 2017. He spent time on loan at Supersport United before being released in September 2019.
After almost a year of without a club, free agent Verbauwhede joined Mamelodi Sundowns in spring 2013. Following a stint with Maritzburg United, Verbauwhede retired from playing professional football and began a career as a football player agent. He currently represents South African footballer Ayanda Patosi.
Alex Bapela (born 4 October 1969) is a South African former footballer who played at both professional and international levels as a midfielder. Bapela played club football for Real Rovers and Mamelodi Sundowns; he also earned six caps for the South African national side between 1999 and 2000.
Khenyeza moved to Ajax CT in 2008 after he fell out with Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral. He arrive as a free agent and he was one of the top scorer of 2008-2009 season. At the end of the season left the club and signed for Mamelodi Sundowns.
He made his professional debut in the Segunda Liga for Vitória Guimarães B on 14 February 2015 in a game against Atlético CP and scored a goal on his debut. He signed for South African Premier Division side Mamelodi Sundowns on a five-year deal in September 2020.
After winning the National First Division's golden boot award, Bhengu turned down offers from Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns to join SuperSport United. Bhengu's first season with SuperSport United was not successful, managing only four substitute appearances, prompting him to request a loan move to gain game-time.
On 3 August 2009 Pattison was reported by South African media to be leaving Norwich to play in South Africa, either for Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates. On 6 August Pattison returned to his native South Africa to join Mamelodi Sundowns for an undisclosed fee in hope of breaking into the South African national team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Matty was on trial at Championship side Leeds United and had scored two goals in two friendly games, putting in some hard working performances in his quest to secure a permanent move back to English football. Leeds saw Matty as a potential solution to their midfield problems following the sale of Jonny Howson.
Mazibuko started his career at Bush Bucks in 1998, where he spent 4 years before joining the Mamelodi Sundowns in 2003. He briefly joined struggling Greek Superleague side Ergotelis on loan in 2005, returning to the Mamelodi Sundowns later that year to help them win the South African Premier Division twice, in the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons. Mazibuko then moved to newly promoted Thanda Royal Zulu in 2007, and followed them to the National First Division after the club was relegated at the end of the season. He joined fellow National First Division competitors Batau in 2010 to drop to the Second Division as the club was relegated at the end of the 2010–11 season.
Having joined the University of Pretoria from Dynamos at the start of the 2012–13 season, Zungu helped AmaTuks to a top eight finish in the club's debut campaign in the PSL. At the end of the season it was announced that Zungu would be joining Mamelodi Sundowns in a swap deal, with Buhle Mkhwanazi and Siyabonga Ngubane joining University of Pretoria. Zungu suffered a hairline fracture of the shin in a 3–2 win over Maritzburg United, ruling him out for up to twelve weeks. Despite missing most of the second half of the 2015/16 season, Zungu had the perfect send off from Sundowns with the club lifting the PSL title in May.

Mamelodi Sundowns became the first team in PSL history to defend their title as they won their second straight PSL title and their fifth South African title after previously winning the PSL's predecessor - the National Soccer League - on three occasions (1988, 1990 and 1993). In a hotly contested title race between Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs it came down to goal difference to separate the two as both finished on a joint record 75 points.
National Soccer League was replaced by Premier Soccer League for the 1996–97 season. Sundowns won three consecutive titles from 1998 to 2000 as well as being Bob Save Super Bowl winners in 1998 and Rothmans Cup winners in 1999. After dominating the local league by winning the league title three times in a row, Sundowns extended their focus to continental glory. In 2001, the club became only the second South African team to reach the prestigious CAF Champions League when they defeated Petro Atlético in the semifinals to reach their first continental cup final. The club reached the final of the 2001 CAF Champions League where they were defeated 4–1 on aggregate by Egyptian club Al Ahly.
Under Tsichlas, the team won more trophies than any other team in South Africa. In 2004, mining magnate Patrice Motsepe bought a 51% share in the club and later took total control of the club by buying the remaining shares, thus becoming the sole owner and shareholder of the club. Under their new owner, Sundowns picked up their first piece of silverware for six years in May 2006 when co-coaches Miguel Gamondi and Neil Tovey oversaw Sundowns' triumph in the PSL, the seventh league title in their history. After a slow start to the 2006–07 season, Gamondi and Tovey were relieved of their positions, and Gordon Igesund took over as head coach.
Phiri played for five clubs during his playing career. He began with Njube Sundowns. In 2007, he joined Highlanders on loan. He then spent a short time with Dynamos in 2008 before returning to Njube, two years later he signed for Bantu Rovers in 2010 before going into coaching with Quelaton.
Roger Feutmba (Born in Douala, 31 October 1968) is a former international football player. He was named in the 1990 FIFA World Cup, 1990 African Nations Cup and 1992 African Nations Cup squads for Cameroon. During his time at Mamelodi Sundowns Feutmba won the PSL Players' Player of the Season award.
Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club She has been nicknamed the "Iron Lady" by her African supporters; this honorable nickname is also due to her relentless efforts to promote women's football in Africa and the world. Her son, Stavro Tsichlas is the current goalkeeper coach of Thanda Royal Zulu, from Richards Bay.
On 12 June 2019, Ndlovu confirmed that he had signed a three-year deal with Orlando Pirates. Upon making the announcement, he informed media that he had never signed any agreement with Sundowns and that his reason for joining Pirates was that the club's style of play suited his abilities.
Helmy was a former striker, and most recently coach of El Zamalek, a post from which he resigned in 2016 following successive Champions League defeats to South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns. He also played for the Egyptian national football team, and was instrumental in helping Zamalek win the Egyptian Cup on May 25, 2008.
De Sá started his professional career after Kwikot Benoni coach Jingles Pereira, who knew De Sá's father, knew that the goalkeeper was not playing professional football, promptly signing the player. During his career, De Sá played for major South African clubs Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns, both of which he captained as well.
Following Pirates' decision to discipline Modise, speculation was rife that he would leave the club, and on 27 January 2011 he signed for rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. Following Sundowns' appointment of Pitso Mosimane as head coach, Modise was named club-captain in his second season at the club. He was stripped of the armband for the following campaign in favour of Alje Schut but helped the team to the 2013-14 Premier Soccer League trophy, scoring in a 3–0 win over Superposrt United on 8 May 2014 to secure the title. At the end of the 2014–15 season, in which he made 32 appearances across all competitions and scored eight times, he was named Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament and PSL Midfielder of the Season.
Percy Muzi Tau (born 13 May 1994) is a South African professional footballer who plays for Belgian First Division club Anderlecht, on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion and the South African national team. Tau began his footballing career with Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns where he made 100 appearances either side of a loan to Witbank Spurs. During his time with Sundowns, he won the league title twice and the CAF Champions League once and was named Footballer of the Year and joint-top-goalscorer in his final season with the club. He joined Brighton in 2018 but, due to work-permit complications, was loaned out to Belgian side Union SG with whom he won the Proximus League Player of the Season award.
He is a product of the Swallows youth system. Kumalo was promoted to the first team in the 2010–11 season and became a regular feature for the first team squad, being used mostly as a substitute. As of March 2019, Khumalo remained with the Sundowns team. However, he was released in September 2019.
Born in Utrecht, Schut played for FC Utrecht, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kozakken Boys. Schut began his career with hometown club FC Utrecht, making his professional debut on 3 October 1999. In 2004 he spent 7 months injured following a bacterial infection in his knee. In March 2005 he suffered another knee injury, ending his season.
Kutyauripo began his career in 2003 with Njube Sundowns, and spent the 2005–06 season with Cypriot side APOP Kinyras Peyias, making 22 league appearances. After returning to Zimbabwe in 2006, Kutyauripo has played with Dynamos, CAPS United, Monomotapa United and Shooting Stars. On 20 October 2012 was banned for ten years for match fixing.

Method Mwanjali (born 25 April 1983 in Hwange) is a Zimbabwean football player who plays as a defender for Simba Sport Club in the Tanzania Premier Soccer League. He previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, Mpumhalanga Aces , CAPS United, Shabanie Mine and Hwange FC in Zimbabwe. He also played for the Zimbabwean national team.

He joined Dynamos in 1990, and later played for Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows. He won four major trophies with Orlando Pirates, including the 1995 African Cup of Champions Clubs.

Carlo Scott (born 5 June 1980 in Cape Town, Western Cape) is a South African football (soccer) striker who played in the Premier Soccer League for Cape Town Spurs, Ajax Cape Town, Sundowns, Moroka Swallows, Santos, and Bloemfontein Celtic. He later played for Ikapa Sporting in the National First Division. His younger brother Romano also played for Santos.

Jeremy Russell Brockie (born 7 October 1987) is a New Zealand professional footballer who plays as a forward for Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African Premier Soccer League. He has represented New Zealand at senior international level, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup and at the 2008 Olympic Games, and was part of the squad that won the 2016 OFC Nations Cup.
Farès Hachi (born 5 November 1989) is an Algerian professional footballer who currently plays for AS Lyon Duchère in the Championnat National. Before joining MC Alger in 2017, Hachi had spent the whole of his senior career in France, representing Échirolles, Cassis Carnoux, Chamois Niortais and Grenoble and in Algeria with ES Sétif and in South Africa with Mamelodi Sundowns.

John Tlale (born 15 May 1967) is a South African former footballer who played at both professional and international levels as a goalkeeper. Loftus Versfeld Stadium One of the most popular sports in Pretoria is rugby union. Loftus Versfeld is home to the Blue Bulls, who compete in the domestic Currie Cup, and also to the Bulls in the international Super Rugby competition. The Bulls Super Rugby team, which is operated by the Blue Bulls, won the competition in 2007, 2009 and 2010. Loftus Versfeld also hosts the football side Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sizwe Motaung (7 January 1970 – 16 August 2001) was a South African football player who played for Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundowns, St. Gallen, CD Tenerife, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, as well at international level for the national side. He was part of the squad that won the 1996 African Cup of Nations. He died of an AIDS-related disease at his home in Newcastle on 16 August 2001, at the age of 31.

He returned to Santos after semi-retirement and impressed with some good performances during the 2007/08 season. He signed for Mamelodi Sundowns and moved to Bidvest Wits after a year and half. He made his Chiefs debut on 23 January 2014 in a 1–0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld.
USCA Foot (Union Sportive de la Commune Urbaine d'Antananarivo) is a football club based in Antananarivo, Madagascar. They won the THB Champions League and the Coupe de Madagascar in 2005 and were runners-up in the Coupe in 2004 and 2006. Born in Malawi, Malunga played football in the local league for MTL Wanderers. He joined South African side Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. with his brother, Holman, in August 1985. He joined Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge K.S.V. for the 1987-88 season, but made only one competitive appearance for the club, while finishing sixth in the voting for 1987 African Player of the Year. He moved to K.V. Kortrijk the following season.

Philemon Raul Masinga (28 June 1969 – 13 January 2019) was a South African professional footballer and manager who played as a striker from 1990 to 2002. He played in the English Premier League for Leeds United, and Italian Serie A for Salernitana and Bari. He also played for Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundowns with his cousin Bennett Masinga, St. Gallen and Al-Wahda. He represented South Africa in 58 international games, scoring 18 goals.

Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 4 (VMAQ-4) was a United States Marine Corps electronic warfare squadron consisting of EA-6B Prowler jets. The squadron was last based at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina and fell under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 14 (MAG-14) and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2nd MAW). The squadron was decommissioned on June 2, 2017 as the Marine Corps sundowns the EA-6B Prowler.

Born in Mufulira, Katongo has played club football in Zambia, South Africa, Angola, France and Libya for Butondo Western Tigers, Forest Rangers, Green Buffaloes, Jomo Cosmos, Petro Atlético, Rennes B, LB Châteauroux, Mamelodi Sundowns and Al-Ittihad. Katongo's career in Libya was cut short by the 2011 Libyan civil war, which saw the Zambian government sending a plane to rescue him. In June 2014, he moved to the Egyptian side Al Ittihad on a three-year deal.

In 1986, he briefly played for Crusaders, playing two league games in two days against Linfield and Glentoran (scoring in the latter) in December 1986.
Als Puk Tawana is a South African football club from the city of Potchefstroom, North West. They were founded in 1994 and currently play in the SAFA Second Division, the third tier of South African soccer. The club's biggest achievement, came when they knocked Platinum Stars out of the Nedbank Cup in 2010 Nedbank Cup. The club was purchased by the North-West University in 2003, and serves as a reserve team to Premier Soccer League club Mamelodi Sundowns.
In South Africa, Dumitru was nicknamed "Master Ted", "Mr Magic" or "The Professor", because of his studious approach to the game. In November 2005, he was hired as South Africa's manager ahead of the 2006 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, but he was shown the exit door soon after his team's dismissal performance at the tournament where they failed to score a goal. In 2009, Dumitru got involved with the Mamelodi Sundowns Youth Academy.

Mashego was transferred from Orlando Pirates to Golden Arrows in 2011, with the player signing a 3-year deal. He left Golden Arrows after only a single season and was signed on a free transfer by Moroka Swallows. Mashego finished the 2012-13 Premier Soccer League season as the league's top scorer with 13 goals. Mashego joined Mamelodi Sundowns in August 2013 in a deal which saw Edward Manqele move in the opposite direction as a replacement on loan.

HM Pitje Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Mamelodi, a suburb of the City of Tshwane, South Africa. On Saturday 31 January 2009, the Life members of the club voted in favour of a merger with Njube Sundowns Football Club another Bulawayo based club. This was not successful but in February 2011, they bought the franchise of Chitungwiza-based Zimbabwe Premier League outfit Eagles. Zimbabwe Saints were relegated from the Premier Soccer League in 2006. The return of Zimbabwe Saints in 2011 into the premiership would bring more excitement into the league in Bulawayo.
Habas resigned in February, citing personal reasons and went back to Spain. Assistant coach Ian Gorowa was appointed as interim head coach. In 2011 highly rated Dutch tactician Johan Neeskens was appointed as the coach of Sundowns in a bid to awaken the sleeping giant that hadn't won silverware since winning the 2008 Nedbank cup. The Dutch-born coach gave a number of young players from the development team opportunities to impress in the senior team.

Born in Monrovia, Laffor has played club football in Liberia, Ghana, and South Africa for LISCR, Ashanti Gold, Jomo Cosmos, Supersport United and Mamelodi Sundowns. He made his international debut for Liberia in 2003, and has played in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. In June 2012, Laffor was expelled from the squad ahead of a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. On March 24, 2013 he scored his first goal for Liberia against Uganda at Samuel Kanyan Doe (SKD) Complex in Paynesville.
An injury to his captain Sibusiso Mahlangu forced Roger de Sa to assign Mashamaite as a captain temporarily and he later became the permanent captain. Mashamaite scored a brace in a 4–2 win over Mamelodi Sundowns on 16 September 2009 in a space of two minutes between the 72nd and 74th minute, both with his head. He was a key figure when Bidvest Wits won the Nedbank Cup, beating AmaZulu 3–0 at FNB Stadium on 22 May 2010.
Kungwane, a staunch Orlando Pirates fan, started playing at Alexandra Blackpool and was spotted by Vincent Williams, the head of Kaizer Chiefs development. He started out professionally at Jomo Cosmos often being overshadowed by Thomas Madigage and August Makalakalane. He left after a loan spell to Milan FC and joined Chiefs where Nelson Dladla gave him the number 11. Kungwane snubbed an offer a few years earlier when Mamelodi Sundowns' Zola Mahobe failed to lure him with a briefcase of money.
Gaxa attended the University of Port Elizabeth, which at that time had a football team controlled by Danish side F.C. Copenhagen. However, he was not one of the three players, Elrio van Heerden, Lee Langeveldt and Bongumusa Mthethwa, who made it from the FCK-UPE Academy to F.C. Copenhagen. He is managed by ExtraTime S.L.. In 2002, he moved to Supersport United, where he stayed for six seasons, before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2008. In 2010, he moved to Belgian club Lierse.

Mahachi spent the end of his youth career with Highlanders, before moving into senior football with Bantu Rovers. His spell with Bantu was short as he left soon after joining when he agreed to join Chicken Inn. He remained a Chicken Inn player for two years before departing in 2014 when Mahachi rejoined Highlanders. After another short stint, his next move saw him leave Zimbabwe for the first time as he joined Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club originated from Marabastad, a cosmopolitan area north west of the Pretoria CBD. The club was originally formed in the early 1960s by a group of friends, among whom were Reginald Hartze, Joey Lawrence and Bernard Hartze. It became an official football club in 1970. The club was affiliated to the Federation Professional Football League in 1973 and in the same year reached the finals of the Coca-Cola Cup, where they played against Berea United and lost 5–3.
Soliman took Zamalek command position as a caretaker, his first match was against Ismaily (Semi-Final of 2016 Egyptian cup), Zamalek did a great performance and won 4–0, his second match was the cup final against Al Ahly, he led the team to win 3–1 and claim the fourth cup title in a row. He also led the team to the 2016 CAF Champions League Final against Mamelodi Sundowns before the team lose by 3–1 in aggregate.
He was laid to rest on 16 August 2003 with Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza and Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe among those acting as pallbearers. His tombstone was unveiled the following month, on the day of South Africa's national Heritage Day. Ahead of the 2003–04 Premier Soccer League season, the award for the top goalscorer in a season was renamed the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot and the Musina municipality also named the local football stadium after him in his honour.

Lebogang Manyama made his professional debut for Ajax Cape Town on 20 August 2010 against Mamelodi Sundowns, winning (4–3) on penalties after a 1–1 draw, in a quarterfinal match of the 2010 MTN 8 tournament at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. He was acquired by Ajax Cape Town in the summer of 2010 as a transfer from FC Alexandra. During his time at Ajax he was a stand out player in the South African Premier League and was subsequently acquired by Supersport United.
Renowned for his penalty- saving and penalty-taking skills, Mweene was arguably one of the best goalkeepers in Africa, winning the PSL Goalkeeper of the Season award (best player in the South African top division) in the 2008-09 season. He has been in demand with all of the big spending clubs in South Africa but remained loyal to Free State Stars until the end of the 2012-13 season. On 27 June 2013, he agreed to a three-year deal with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Peter Ndlovu (born 25 February 1973) is a Zimbabwean former professional footballer and is currently the Team Manager at Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. a Premier Soccer League club in South Africa. Peter Ndlovu originally comes from Binga district in North Western, Siabuwa Zimbabwe. He was however born in Bulawayo, and played professionally as a striker from 1988 until 2011. He played for Highlanders in Zimbabwe, for Coventry City in the Premier League and in the Football League for Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United.
Motshweneng Simon Gopane (born 26 December 1970 in Bloemfontein) is a South African football coach and a former international goalkeeper. Mokwena's first notable foray into football came at Silver Stars, later known as Platinum Stars, where he honed his skills under coaches such as Steve Komphela, Cavin Johnson and Allan Freese. In 2014, he joined Mamelodi Sundowns where, after excelling with the club's development team, he was promoted to be one of manager Pitso Mosimane's assistant managers, alongside Manqoba Mngqithi and Alex Bapela. Mokwena stayed with Masandawana until 2017, helping the club win the 2016 CAF Champions League title, before taking up a role as the assistant manager to Milutin Sredojević at Orlando Pirates.
A striker, Kilambe played in South Africa for Kaizer Chiefs, Bloemfontein Celtic and Mamelodi Sundowns and for Power Dynamos and Yunnan Hongta and Zanaco F.C. in his native Zambia. Kilambe made his debut for the Zambia national football team in 1998 and has since played a major part in his country's successes. He played at the 1998 and 2000 African Nation Cup Finals. In September 2001, he was suspended for 6 months from international football since he tested positive for cannabis use, following a World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.
Whilst at Pirates, he earned the nickname "the General" for his ability to direct play and soon became a regular within the national team set-up. Following a falling out with club management in 2011, he transferred to Mamelodi Sundowns where he spent a further six years and won no fewer than five club titles. He also captained the side for the 2012–13 season. In 2017, he chose not to renew his contract with the club, electing instead to sign for Cape Town City where he remained until his retirement in 2019.
Modise ultimately amassed over 150 appearances across all competitions for the club and in his final season was part of the squad which won CAF Champions League, after a 3–1 aggregate win over Egyptian side Zamalek. On 27 June 2017, he was released from his contract by Mamelodi Sundowns. During his time with the club, in which he earned a reported R450 000 per month, he won no fewer than six trophies, including two PSL titles, the Nedbank Cup, Telkom Knockout, CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup.
Moriri is a free- scoring midfielder who was chosen as South Africa’s PSL Player of the Season in 2005–06. He usually plays as a second striker or behind the striker as a supporting striker. He can also be deployed on the right side of midfield. He scored 12 goals in all competitions (11 in the league) to be Sundowns’ top scorer and help the 'Brazilians' to their first league title since 2000. In the 2006–07 season he eclipsed that amount, with again 11 league goals and three in the CAF Champions League.
Calvin Donovan Marlin (born 20 April 1976 in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape) is a retired South African football goalkeeper who works as a goalkeeping coach for Cape Town City. He played club football for Michau Warriors, Seven Stars, Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Mpumalanga Black Aces as well as representing South Africa internationally. Marlin was a participant at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was South Africa's first choice keeper at the 2006 African Nations Cup in Egypt and has so far been capped 16 times.
Nyandoro grew up in Zimbabwe's second largest city, Bulawayo, and learnt at Mzilikazi High School. He was identified by soccer scouts whilst playing in the Peter Ndlovu invitational under 19 tournament, for Zimbabwe Saints Juniors, which was used to identify and promote talent. As a result of this he signed with AmaZulu, rising through the reserve ranks to being a member of the league championship winning squad. Nyandoro was then signed by South African club Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004 and was named the PSL Club Rookie of the Year after his debut season.
Chikwaikwai played alongside his oldest brother Manyowa for Rusape side Grain Masters between 2000 and 2004 before coming to Harare for trials with premiership side CAPS United. The move was stalled when he sustained a career- threatening ankle injury during a training session. The former Njube Sundowns striker was named Zimbabwe's 2008/9 'Soccer Star of the Year' after he finished as the league's top goal-scorer with 23 goals in 28 games. He donated part of his prize money to Maggies Day Centre, an orphanage at his home area of Rusape.
The 2016–17 South African Premier Division season (known as the ABSA Premiership for sponsorship reasons) is the 21st season of the Premier Soccer League since its establishment in 1996. Mamelodi Sundowns were the defending champions, having won the previous 2015–16 South African Premier Division (PSL) season. The season featured 14 teams from the 2015–16 season and two new teams promoted from the 2015–16 National First Division: Baroka and Highlands Park who replace relegated Jomo Cosmos and University of Pretoria. Highlands Park promotion was won via the PSL Playoff Tournament.
Ndlovu enjoyed a stellar campaign under Fadlu Davids during the 2017–18 season in which he helped the club to an historic league finish. In January 2018, he became the first-ever player from Maritzburg United to win the Absa Premiership Player of the Month award and two months later was rewarded with a new long-term contract with the club, ending speculation linking him with a transfer away. He then made his 50th appearance for the club on 25 April when he started in a 2–2 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns.
After leaving the club he worked in developing young players and local coaches across the country. In 1992, he established the Chibuku Youth Centre in Soweto, which was the first development program in the country. He was later responsible for the Esselen Park School of Excellence that has produced players such as Steven Pienaar and Daine Klate. In July 1997, he took over as coach at Mamelodi Sundowns and led The Brazilians to two consecutive PSL titles in 1998 and 1999, as well as both the Nedbank Cup and Rothmans Cup.
Dumitru managed among others, Orlando Pirates and Manning Rangers with mixed success. He was appointed manager of the Namibian national team in November 2000 replacing Lucky Richter, but resigned a few months later after an argument with former Chiefs midfielder, Robert Nauseb. He rejoined Mamelodi Sundowns and helped his side reach their first and only African Champions League Final in 2001, which they lost to record holders Al Ahly. In June 2003, he returned to Kaiser Chiefs and won back-to-back league titles in 2004 and 2005, after which he retired from club coaching.
In 1996/9,7 the inaugural season of the Premier Soccer League, the unfancied Maulers stunned everybody with a fairy tale season and managed an impressive 23–5–6 record finishing top of the table with 74 points and becoming champions ahead bigger clubs such as the Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. The club was unable to repeat this success however, but remained in the Premier Soccer League for several seasons. In 1998/99 the team represented South Africa in the African Champions Cup losing out to eventual winners ASEC Abidjan of Cote d'Ivoire.
Kermit Romeo Erasmus (born 8 July 1990) is a South African professional footballer who plays for DStv Premiership side Mamelodi Sundowns and the South Africa national team. Born in Port Elizabeth, Erasmus moved to Pretoria as a teenager where he made his professional debut with SuperSport United in 2007. He spent the next two seasons in the Netherlands with Feyenoord and Excelsior before returning to SuperSport United. During his second spell with the club, he made over 50 appearances and helped his side to the Nedbank Cup title before joining Orlando Pirates in 2013.

The club won the MTN 8 title in September 2008, an annual competition made up of the top eight club's in the Premier Soccer League in the previous season. This time Bhasera missed his penalty in the shootout of the final at against Mamelodi Sundowns, after the match had finished 0–0, but the club went on to win by four goals to three at Kings Park Stadium.
Zane Moosa (born 23 September 1968) is a South African former footballer who played at both professional and international levels as a midfielder. Moosa played club football in South Africa and Saudi Arabia for Wits University, Mamelodi Sundowns, Avendale Athletico, Al-Ahli and Kaizer Chiefs; he also earned five caps for the South African national side between 1992 and 1996. He was part of the squad that won the 1996 African Cup of Nations. Moosa made his professional debut on 21 June 1986 in a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs which would be his last club.
Emiliano Tade (born March 3, 1988) is an Argentine professional footballer who currently plays as a forward for Auckland City in the ISPS Handa Premiership. Tade holds the record for number of consecutive participations in the FIFA Club World Cup, appearing for Auckland City at seven consecutive FIFA Club World Cup tournaments from 2011 to 2017. He is currently the all-time leading goal scorer for Auckland City, as well as the all-time leading goal scorer in New Zealand Football Championship history; his exploits earned him a professional move to South Africa, eventually signing for league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in 2019.

Sweswe scored his first goal for Kaizer Chiefs and the first Premier Soccer League goal of his career with a header in a 1–0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns on 4 December 2011.
In 2014, reports emerged that Modise owed a friend R10 000 after he had promised him a job at Mamelodi Sundowns in order to borrow the money from him. Concurrent reports also indicated that he owed fellow footballer May Mahlangu more than R40 000 for designer goods he bought for ex-fiancé Tabane. The following year, Modise was forced to sell his home in the West Rand to a private buyer after he had defaulted on bond payments for a number of months. In terms of the agreement, he was allowed to continue residing at the property.
Grant Margeman (born 3 June 1998 in Cape Town, Western Cape) is a South African football player who plays as a central midfielder for Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League. Grant Margeman made his senior professional debut in the 2016/2017 season at the age of 18 years under Head Coach Stanley Menzo. Grant Margeman competed at the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations held in Zambia and helped his national team qualify for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Later that Summer in 2017, Grant Margeman made his debut at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup against Japan.
Itumeleng Isaac Khune (born 20 June 1987) is a South African footballer who plays as goalkeeper for Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League, and also the South African national team. He is the captain of both. Khune shot to fame when he saved three penalties from Esrom Nyandoro and Peter Ndlovu against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout final on 1 December 2007. He is also well known for saving a David Villa penalty and proceeding to make a double save in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup group stage match against Spain a day before his 22nd birthday on 20 June 2009.
The first MTN 8 match at the stadium was the first leg of the 2010 MTN 8 semifinal, between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. The venue has also hosted high-profile Bafana Bafana matches, including the South African national football team's 1-0 win over Spain in 2013 as well as the side's worst ever defeat when they lost 5-0 to Brazil in another international friendly in 2014. In May 2018, Mamelodi Sundowns hosted FC Barcelona in an exhibition match, dedicated to the late Former President of South Africa in his centenary. The match ended 3-1 in the favour of Barcelona.
Umtata Bush Bucks and Hellenic completed the top five, with Mamelodi Sundowns in sixth, Jomo Cosmos in seventh and Cape Town Spurs in eighth. Popular clubs Bloemfontein Celtic and Moroka Swallows came in 10th and 11th respectively, while KwaZulu-Natal giants AmaZulu finished 14th on the 18-team log. The first two teams to be relegated to the second tier from the PSL were Witbank Aces – who won just four games all season and finished with 19 points – and Michau Warriors. Real Rovers and Vaal Professionals (36 points each) finished a single point ahead of Warriors and avoided the demotion.

Bucs will travel to Bloemfontein to face PSL strugglers Bloemfontein Celtic, who will be counting on their incredible home support to see them past the high-flying Soweto side. Peace Lovers, the last remaining Vodacom League side in the draw, have been rewarded for their win against Real Madrid with a home tie against Moroka Swallows.
Letsholonyane mainly played in the lower leagues until joining Jomo Cosmos in 2006. Two years later he signed with Kaizer Chiefs under Muhsin Ertugral where he has since been an integral part of the line-up despite regularly battling injuries. Letsholonyane made his debut alongside Gordon Gilbert on 30 August 2008 in a 2–1 loss against Thanda Royal Zulu. He came close to scoring as he took a powerful shot outside the box but crashed onto the crossbar. Letsholonyane scored the winning penalty in the 2008 MTN 8 final and Chiefs won 4–3 over Mamelodi Sundowns.
Apataki was born in Kinshasa, Zaire. He played for AmaZulu, FC Rouen, RCF Paris, AS Marsa, CS Sfaxien, Bursaspor, Lokeren, DC Motema Pembe. He was released by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2007–08 season, attended trials at Israeli club Bnei Sakhnin F.C. in August, but complications with travel documents appear to have scuppered his return to that country has been interest in his services from Premiership rookies Bay United. The Congolese striker believed his decision to join struggling First Division side Dynamos will boost his chances of a return to the Absa Premiership or a move overseas.
He made his debut for Jomo Cosmos in 1990, before moving on to Mamelodi Sundowns. In 1994 he left for English Premier League club Leeds United; the deal that his agent Marcelo Houseman did with Leeds manager Howard Wilkinson also involved Lucas Radebe moving to Leeds from Kaizer Chiefs. He played in the English Premier League for two years, playing 31 games and scoring five goals, and also scored a hat- trick in an FA Cup tie against Walsall on 17 January 1995. Masinga moved to Switzerland with St. Gallen in 1996, followed by spells in Italy with Salernitana and Bari.
Under the tutelage of Screamer Tshabalala, Sundowns played an entertaining and effective brand of football which became known as "The Shoe Shine and Piano" and won various major trophies in the process to cement the club as one of the powerhouse of the South African football. In 1988, the ownership of the club fell into the hands of Standard Bank, which repossessed the club from Zola Mahobe. The club went into liquidation and the football family Angelo and Natasha Tsichlas spoke to the bank and saved the club. They then formed a company with Abe Krok and bought 100% of the club.
Bangaly left Ivory Coast once again in September 2015, when he was signed by South African Premier Division club Mamelodi Sundowns to compensate for the loss of Alje Schut, who returned to play in the Netherlands. He made his professional debut with the club on September 15, 2015, during a 2–1 loss to Golden Arrows. He was replaced at halftime by manager Pitso Mosimane after several mistakes, most notably failing to clear a ball which lead to the Golden Arrows' opening goal. It was also obvious he experienced communication issues, as he had hardly learned English.
In Mthembu's two seasons at Stars, Mthembu played 19 league games but did not score any goals and he was not in the match day squads when Stars won the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout. Greenfield won the 2009 NISL Championship with Baltimore, defeating Rockford Rampage 13-10 in the Championship Game.
Born in Pongola, Ntshangase played for the Brazil Academy in KwaNdengezi, Durban as a young player and had spells with Lamontville Golden Arrows, Thanda Royal Zulu and Mamelodi Sundowns, but was turned down by all three clubs. He joined Black Leopards in 2013. He made his debut for the club in the National First Division on 25 January 2014 in a 2–2 draw at home to Baroka and scored his first league goal for the club on 12 February 2014 in a 2–2 at home to Ubuntu Cape Town. In total, he made 15 appearances for the club over the 2013–14 season, scoring 4.
Oscar Selele Ntwagae (22 July 1977, in Brakpan, Gauteng – 27 August 2010, in Germiston, Gauteng) was a South African football (soccer) defender for Premier Soccer League club Platinum Stars. Platinum Stars had confirmed before his death that he had just rejoined the club on a three-year deal. The 31-year-old left Stars for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2005 and spent three seasons with The Brazilians before joining city rivals SuperSport United in the off-season. Ntwagae was killed on 27 August 2010 after being knocked down by a car in Germiston after coming back from Jomo Cosmos training where he was attending trials.

In 2016, he had a brief spell as the assistant coach of the Malawian national team before taking up the role of head coach of Cape Town All Stars guiding them to a ninth-place finish in the 2016-17 National First Division season.

As manager, Cappa worked for several clubs in different countries, including UD Las Palmas and CD Tenerife in Spain, Racing Club in Argentina, Atlante in Mexico, Universitario in Peru and Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.
