According to MGM records, the film earned $626,000 in the US and Canada and $266,000 elsewhere, resulting in a profit of $307,000. New York Times reviewer Frank Nugent, while bemoaning the damage done to artistic values by series pictures, still called it "pleasantly entertaining" and "on the whole, successfully sugar-coated".

In November 2012, the theatre presented twelve new plays as part of its fourth annual Vibrant – A Festival of Finborough Playwrights. The plays include The Andes by Alexandra Wood, The Sugar-Coated Bullets of the Bourgeoisie by Anders Lustgarten and Pig Girl by Colleen Murphy. 2012 saw transfers of London Wall by John Van Druten to St James' Theatre, and Cornelius by J.B. Priestley to Off-Broadway.

Mlabbas (Syrian Arabic) (Arabic: ملبس), and Noghl (Iranian Persian), or Nuql (Afghan Persian) (), or sugar-coated almonds, is a traditional Syrian, Iranian and Afghan confection. It is made by boiling sugar with water and rose water and then coating roasted almonds in the mixture. It can also be made with other nuts such as walnuts or other items. Noghl is often eaten along with tea.

Guests would thus gather after the ceremony and try to rip parts of the dress, sometimes seeing it torn apart. The tossing of the bouquet originated to distract the guests while the bride and groom made their getaway to their marriage chamber, upon which the groom would throw the bride's garter into the crowd of guests outside. Vidal Golosinas is a Spanish manufacturer and marketer of confectionery, specialising in the production of liquorice and gummy candies. Vidal was founded in 1963 and, after more than 50 years, produces 50 million units a day in more than 60 countries. Vidal produces filled jelly sweets with 3D designs, center filled gummies, pectin-filled sweet foam, chewing gum with a fizzy filling and sugar coated liquorice. Vidal also produces kosher products.

Future Rock formed in early 2004 (Kellerman and Moreno had formerly been members of the Evanston-based experimental rock group Co-Dependant Origination). Future Rock's debut album, Sugar Coated Bullets, was self-released on May 9, 2006. In March 2007, Future Rock signed to Harmonized Records and released the album Gears. In May 2010, Future Rock released Live In Wicker Park, a recording from a live performance on Harmonized Records.

In 2008, he started his own YouTube channel, on behalf of which Bell created the "sugar coated satirical persona" named 'Cheeks'. As Cheeks, Bell wrote and performed critical commentary on celebrities, pop culture and politics. A fanbase was rapidly growing and Bell's reputation began to take form. As a satirist, Bell follows a philosophy described by organizers of the Ig Nobel Prize, "first make people laugh, and then make them think".

One reviewer thought it "stupid and thoroughly boresome" and was uncomfortable with the "sugar-coated Pollyanna characterization" given Annie. Three years after the RKO release, Gray wrote a sequence for the strip that sent Annie to Hollywood. She is hired at low wages to play the stand-in and stunt double for the bratty child star Tootsie McSnoots. Young starlet Janey Spangles tips off Annie to the corrupt practices in Hollywood.

Gingerbread has existed in some form since sugars and spices were brought back to Europe, from soldiers in the Crusades. However, it was not until Queen Victoria and Prince Albert included it with a variety of other German Christmas traditions that the gingerbread cookies became primarily associated with Christmas. Gingerbread cookies are also traditional in Alsace. Two batches of pfeffernüsse: sugar-coated in bowl, cocoa-coated in box.

Andalusian Gazpacho The tapas scene is one of the main cultural attractions of the city: people go from one bar to another, enjoying small dishes called tapas (literally "lids" or "covers" in Spanish, referring to their probable origin as snacks served on small plates used to cover drinks). Local specialities include fried and grilled seafood (including squid, choco (cuttlefish), swordfish, marinated dogfish, and ortiguillas), grilled and stewed meat, spinach with chickpeas, Jamón ibérico, lamb kidneys in sherry sauce, snails, caldo de puchero, and gazpacho. A sandwich known as a serranito is the typical and popular version of fast food. Typical desserts from Seville include pestiños, a honey-coated sweet fritter; torrijas, fried slices of bread with honey; roscos fritos, deep-fried sugar-coated ring doughnuts; magdalenas or fairy cakes; yemas de San Leandro, which provide the city's convents with a source of revenue; and tortas de aceite, a thin sugar- coated cake made with olive oil.

This is not "communion" in the formal religious sense, but about sharing the cup of life. At the end of the wedding ceremony, as the newly wedded pair leave the church, the guests throw rice and flowers for fertility and felicity. Special guests, such as close friends and family receive sugar-coated almonds (traditionally an odd number, usually seven but sometimes five) as a gift from the couple. Most Greek ceremonies are Orthodox.

Her first album, Pink, was released in 1998 at the peak of the bubblegum boom after the success of "Hero", and was worked on by Papaya and Honeycutt. Jelly Tots The best known products that are still branded under the Rowntree name are Rowntree's Fruit Gums, Rowntree's Fruit Pastilles and Jelly Tots. Jelly Tots are soft, chewy fruit-flavoured sweets. They are round, sugar-coated gumdrop- like confections about 13mm in diameter, and contain 25% fruit juices and no artificial colours or flavours. Jelly Tots were invented by Dr Brian Boffey of Horsforth, Leeds when he was working for Rowntree's.

Ron is a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force and is in charge of logistics and personnel for Africa operations. He thought about retiring and joining the Peace Corps until he was ordered to go to England. The programme observes how the family copes with life outside of the wire-circled frontier away from the sugar-coated, ideal American life with its Burger King, US currency, movie theatre and rod and gun club.

Subhashitas are known for their inherent moral and ethical advice, instructions in worldly wisdom and guidance in making righteous deeds. Subhashitas create an appeal as the inherent message is conveyed through poems which quote practical examples which are often rhythmic in nature. Some authors even relate Subhashitas to sugar coated bitter medicines considering their worthiness. The subhashita deals with various subjects and includes topics of day to day experiences that every one can easily relate to.

Josiah, who was aged fourteen at the time was among its first employees. He had quit school to work in the laboratory of his father's company as an apprentice and errand boy. Within a few years Eli Lilly and Company became a very successful business that was known for manufacturing high-quality prescription drugs, especially gelatin- and sugar-coated pills and capsules and fruit-flavored elixirs. By 1879 company sales had grown to $48,000 ($ in 2015 chained dollars).

Kadalekai Parishe (), is an annual groundnut fair held in Bangalore. This two- day fair is held near the Dodda Ganesha Temple in Basavanagudi. Apart from the Groundnuts, there are numerous stalls in the fair, selling Bangles, traditional toys and clay trinkets, plastic and glass dolls, Mehndi tattoos. There are a variety of food items, such as Bajji, Bonda, Batthaas (Coloured sugar candies), Kalyana seve or Bendu (Sugar coated gram) and Coloured sodas on sale during the fair.

Charismata described her early style of music as "Protest Pop," a term she coined herself. Protest Pop, as the term indicates, is a mix of punk, hip hop and catchy hooks with "sugar-coated" political lyrics. Afropunk has previously described Charismata as "the quintessential revival of the modern protest song in pop music" and "an outspoken voice that mainstream media may never acknowledge." Charismata cites the careers of Bob Marley, Bad Brains, and John Lennon as her biggest inspirations.

"The Life of Riley", released as a single in March 1992, was written for Broudie's son Riley. The album's second single, "Sense", was co- written by Broudie and Specials singer and long time writing partner Terry Hall. The single includes a track written by Broudie and Paul Simpson from their time as Care, "Flaming Sword", as a B-side.Sense - Sugar Coated discography Hall released a re-recorded version of "Sense" with himself on vocals in 1994.

Slaves released their first EP, Sugar Coated Bitter Truth, under Boss Tuneage Records in 2012. Their first single, "Where's Your Car Debbie?", was released by Fonthill Records in early 2014; they were then signed by Virgin EMI. They released their first single under Virgin, "Hey", in November 2014, and released "The Hunter" later that month. They gained more exposure in late 2015 when "The Hunter" was featured on the Sky One series You, Me and the Apocalypse.

Frosted Flakes or Frosties is a breakfast cereal, produced by the Kellogg Company and consisting of sugar-coated corn flakes. It was introduced in the United States, in 1952, as Sugar Frosted Flakes. The word "sugar" was dropped from the name in 1983. Generic versions, such as store brands, are also available. Unlike many cereals (Cheerios, Shreddies and Rice Krispies, for example), the name “Frosted Flakes” is too generic to be trademarked, and thus it often shares its name with competitors.

Colin the Caterpillar is a chocolate sponge roll cake filled with chocolate buttercream and covered in a milk chocolate shell, with sugar-coated milk chocolate beans for decoration. The cake has a decorative face and feet made of white chocolate. The dessert is available in large and small sizes. According to Marks and Spencer, it takes 38 people to assemble each cake from start to finish, and 8.4 tonnes (8,400 kg) of sugar coating are used each year for the decorative spots.

In 2005, the Nadur Carnival hosted the largest-ever gathering of international Carnival organizers for the FECC's global summit. Traditional dances include the parata, a lighthearted re-enactment of the 1565 victory of the Knights Hospitaller over the Turks, and an 18th-century court dance known as il- Maltija. Carnival food includes perlini (multi-coloured, sugar-coated almonds) and the prinjolata, which is a towering assembly of sponge cake, biscuits, almonds, and citrus fruits, topped with cream and pine nuts.

Flipside Magazine observed that So Far Too Late featured "dreamy melodies, choir boy vocal range, fine guitars and a killer chorus. Get ready for a sugar-coated overload in 2006." With great things ahead, the Irish Post announced that "their essential musicianship shines through...the rock quartet clearly has hopes of the big time", with The Sun (referencing their simian moniker) confident that they "might not yet have enjoyed the same success as their monkey rivals but the rock group have plenty to crow about".

Zheng immediately followed the directive and made the movie The Married Couple (), starring Zhao Dan and Jiang Tianliu. It told a story of a CPC cadre ditching his original wife in his village in order to marry a girl in the city, showing his failure to resist the temptation of "sugar-coated bullet". This movie was banned even before the public release. Zheng was a member of Art Commission of Shanghai Film Studio and used to support the making of The Life of Wu Xun.

"Percussion" on these sessions went beyond the traditional drum kit and included a rolled-up newspaper striking a cardboard box. Miller dubbed Lester "Lazy Lester" because of his laconic, laid-back style. More than his vocal delivery, Lester is best remembered for songs that were later covered by a wide range of rock, country, blues, and Tex-Mex stars, chiefly, "I'm a Lover Not a Fighter," "I Hear You Knockin'," and "Sugar Coated Love." Lester stated that he wrote these songs, but almost all are credited to Miller or to Lester and Miller.

In one strip, he shows a cow a picture of a beefburger during a Cowpat Lottery (in which a cow has to defecate on a villager's selected square). In the Beano Annual 2009, he hijacks an anthropomorphic train named Timmy, injures the driver, drives it dangerously, and eventually destroys it (a parody of Thomas the Tank Engine). The early stories featured a narrator, who spoke in a heavily sugar-coated way, but he disappeared during 2008. His strip continued to appear regularly in the Beano until autumn 2009, when Laura Howell started drawing Beano Manga.

HighTide Festival 2016 ran over ten days from 8 to 18 September in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The Festival showcased productions of Theresa Ikoko's Girls, Elinor Cook's Pilgrims, Anders Lustgarten's The Sugar Coated Bullets of the Bourgeoisie and Rob Drummond's In Fidelity. 2016 also marked HighTide's 10 year anniversary which was celebrated by the production of The Path. This promenade piece saw audiences listen to short plays through headsets, written by 7 HighTide alumni writers: Luke Barnes, E V Crowe, Vickie Donoghue, Thomas Eccleshare, Ella Hickson, Harry Melling and Vinay Patel.

The Vanparys confectionery business was created in 1889 when Felix Vanparys founded a small enterprise in Brussels on Ernest Allard Street - specializing in the production of sugar- coated chocolate and almonds, otherwise known as dragées. In 1922, Emile Vanparys (Felix’s nephew) took control and relocated the growing production line to larger premises in Brussels. He improved the coating technique while also making the sweets more accessible in price. When almonds grew scarce due to a bad harvest across Europe, Emile decided to replace them with an almond- shaped nugget of chocolate.

Sugar Puffs packaging featuring the Honey Monster, the advertising face of the cereal Honey Monster Puffs (previously known as Sugar Puffs) are a honey- flavoured breakfast cereal made from sugar-coated wheat sold in the United Kingdom. Honey Monster Puffs were first launched in 1957, with Jeremy the Bear. They were invented by William Halliday Davies (1919–2009), production manager at the Quaker Oats mill in Southall. For many years they were made by the Quaker Oats Company, but in 2006 they were sold to Big Bear t/a Honey Monster Foods, based in Leicester.

Close-up of Rainbow Drops Rainbow Drops are a brand of sugar-coated cereal- type puffed maize and rice confectionery sold in both Ireland and the United Kingdom, and produced by Swizzels Matlow. The sweets have an orange, pink, green and yellow coloured sugary coating, and are sold in bags of 80 g, 25 g, 32g or 10 g. Rainbow Drops have gained cult status and have become widely regarded as retro sweets. A fictionalized version of the candy is featured in the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

"Fairings" was originally the common name for edible souvenirs sold at fairs around England. Although at Bartholomew Fair in Smithfield, fairings of gingerbread were sold from 1126 to 1800, fairings would vary throughout the country — in the northern counties a traditional fairing would be decorated "paste eggs" at Easter. The Cornish version included the spiced ginger biscuit which became famous in Victorian times. The complete fairing from Cornwall would include the ginger biscuit, along with almond and caraway comfits (colloquially "lambs' tails" - actually sugar-coated almonds and caraway seeds), crystallised angelica and macaroons.

It is a specialty of Purim. The triangular shape may have been influenced by old illustrations of Haman, in which he wore a three-cornered hat Sunflower seeds, called garinim (literally, seeds), are eaten everywhere, on outings, at stadiums and at home. They are usually purchased unshelled and are cracked open with the teeth. They can be bought freshly roasted from shops and market stalls that specialize in nuts and seeds as well as packaged in supermarkets, along with the also well-liked pumpkin and watermelon seeds, pistachios, and sugar-coated peanuts.

Joseph Massel translated the poem, as well as others from Longfellow's later collection Tales of a Wayside Inn, into Hebrew.Einboden, 27 Calhoun also notes that "A Psalm of Life" has become one of the most frequently memorized and most ridiculed of English poems, with an ending reflecting "Victorian cheeriness at its worst". Modern critics have dismissed its "sugar-coated pill" promoting a false sense of security. One story has it that a man once approached Longfellow and told him that a worn, hand-written copy of "A Psalm of Life" saved him from suicide.

Johannes Grenzfurthner (as "His Excellency Ambassador of Soviet Unterzoegersdorf, Nikita Chrusov") and Tim O'Reilly at O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference, 2008 In 2008 monochrom staged a couple of public appearances of "His Excellency Ambassador of Soviet Unterzoegersdorf, Nikita Chrusov" in the United States. The "Ambassador" (played by monochrom member Johannes Grenzfurthner) visited a corporate afterparty of Disney.com at the Marriott Hotel in San Diego (part of O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference). He wanted to talk to executives about "the sugar-coated bullets" the corporation is firing at "his country" and other concepts of "cultural imperialism".

Smarties are colour-varied sugar-coated chocolate confectionery. They have been manufactured since 1937, originally by H.I. Rowntree & Company in the UK, and are currently produced by Nestlé. Smarties are oblate spheroids with a minor axis of about 5 mm (0.2 in) and a major axis of about 12 mm (0.5 in). They come in eight colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, mauve, pink and brown, although the blue variety was temporarily replaced by a white variety in some countries, while an alternative natural colouring dye of the blue colour was being researched.

General Mills introduced Trix in 1954 as a sugar-coated version of its popular Kix cereal. The original Trix cereal was composed of more than 46% sugar. The original cereal included three colors: "Orangey Orange" (formerly named Orange Orange), "Lemony Yellow" (formerly named Lemon Yellow), and "Raspberry Red". Five fruit shapes and colors were added over the years: "Grapity (or Grapey) Purple" (1984–present), "Lime Green" (1991-1998, 2007-2015, 2017–present), "Wildberry Blue" (1996–2007, 2018–present), "Berry Blue" (2007-2015, 2017–present), and "Watermelon" (1998-2007, 2018–present).

Chan made her professional stage debut in the British premiere of Bertolt Brecht's last play, Turandot, at the Hampstead Theatre, London, directed by Anthony Clark. In November 2012, she performed in The Sugar-Coated Bullets of the Bourgeoisie, a play by Anders Lustgarten at the Finborough Theatre. In June 2013, she performed in the UK premiere of Yellow Face by American playwright David Henry Hwang at The Park Theatre, London, directed by Alex Sims. It was revived in 2014 at the Royal National Theatre with the original London cast returning.

Italian confetti The English word confetti (to denote Jordan almonds) is adopted from the Italian confectionery of the same name, which was a small sweet traditionally thrown during carnivals. Also known as dragée or comfit, Italian confetti are almonds with a hard sugar coating; their name equates to French confit. The Italian word for paper confetti is coriandoli which refers to the coriander seeds originally contained within the sweet. By tradition, the Italian confetti (sugar coated almonds) are given out at weddings and baptisms (white coating), or graduations (red coating), often wrapped in a small tulle bag as a gift to the guests.

Judith Crist, in a biting review in the New York Herald Tribune, dismissed the movie as "icky sticky" and designed for "the five to seven set and their mommies". In her review for McCall's magazine, Pauline Kael called the film "the sugar-coated lie people seem to want to eat", and that audiences have "turned into emotional and aesthetic imbeciles when we hear ourselves humming the sickly, goody-goody songs." Wise later recalled, "The East Coast, intellectual papers and magazines destroyed us, but the local papers and the trades gave us great reviews".Hirsch 1993, p. 175.

After the completion of filming A League of Their Own, Madonna began working on her fifth studio album Erotica with Shep Pettibone. The singer was feeling miserable after a string of failed relationships, and she vented out the frustration and depression in her music. According to Lucy O'Brien, author of Madonna: Like an Icon, there were no "sugar-coated" songs on the album, most of which dealt with Madonna's emotions. She appropriated a dominatrix persona called Dita, and the songwriting for the album, as well as the imagery in the coffee table book Sex, reflected her S&M; thoughts.

"Sugar Baby Love" and their next single, "Amaryllis", did decently, but it wasn't until the release of their third single "Ai ga Tomaranai (Turn It Into Love)" (a cover of Kylie Minogue's "Turn It Into Love") the next year that they became popular. It quickly became No. 1 on the Oricon charts, along with many of the singles that followed it. Wink had a different style and image than many other J-pop idols of the era who focused on a 'cute' style with sugar coated lyrics. Wink had emotionless facial expressions while they sang, and almost never smiled.

Shakur is no longer Catholic. She later earned a General Educational Development (GED) with her aunt's help. Often there were few, or no other black students in her high school class. Shakur later wrote teachers seemed surprised when she answered a question in class, as if not expecting black people to be intelligent and engaged, and that what she was taught was a sugar-coated version of history that ignored the oppression suffered by people of color, especially in the United States. In her autobiography she later wrote: "I didn’t know what a fool they had made out of me until I grew up and started to read real history".

The center's internet access has also been used to contribute to the Burmese-language Wikipedia. Burmese government-run news outlets have denounced the center's English for Journalism classes as propaganda designed to harm "young Myanmar brains" and ultimately "poison, because the course is nothing but sugar-coated bitter medicine." As of 2008, the Center in Yangon, formerly the North Korean embassy to Myanmar, was one of the few American Centers not yet affected by the Secure Embassy Construction and Counterterrorism Act of 1999. Credited to Public Affairs Officer Todd Pierce, the Center in Yongon has focused on openness and customer service to undercut the restrictiveness of the Burmese government.

Pantteri candies were first invented in 1965 as small, black salmiakki and liquorice gum drops in a typical cardboard candy box, with a picture of a panther on the box cover. A sugar coating was later added to the drops, slightly altering their taste. The most famous form of Pantteri, however, is the larger, sugar coated disc-shaped candies sold in a plastic bag, also with a picture of a panther on it. At first only salmiakki Pantteri candies were available, but in the 1990s Fazer introduced a fruit-flavoured version of Pantteri, "Pantteri Mix" (containing red, yellow and green fruit candies and normal salmiakki candies).

Lennon later expressed his displeasure with the more commercial sound of the album, saying that the title track was "an anti-religious, anti- nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic song, but because it's sugar-coated, it's accepted". In a November 1971 interview for Melody Maker, McCartney spoke positively of Imagine, considering it to be less political than Lennon's previous solo albums. In a subsequent edition of the same publication, Lennon rebuked his former bandmate, saying, "So you think 'Imagine' ain't political? It's 'Working Class Hero' with sugar on it for conservatives like yourself!!" and likened McCartney's politics to those of the staunchly traditional Mary Whitehouse.

Promoted as "cheezpop" in the Ladybirds press release, the compositions of Regional Community Theater were likened to the Postal Service, while Sperber's singing drew comparison to Cyndi Lauper. Adam Bunch of PopMatters describes the album as "a sugar-coated, dance-happy record of electronic squiggles and bleeps." Appearing on the album are several lead vocalists; the Get Up Kids' Matt Pryor on "Cooper, Thanks for the Birds", Danger O's' Justin Johnson, and Fairmont's Neil Sabatino. Additionally, Max Bemis of Say Anything lends vocals on "Maxim and the Headphone Life", a song described by The Fader's Meyiee Apple as "one of the more memorable tracks" on Regional Community Theater.

South African political commentators have been known to speculate on "rainbowism", whereby true domestic issues such as the legacy of racism, crime, and the like are glossed over and "sugar-coated" by the cover of rainbow peace. South African politician, academic, and noted poet Jeremy Cronin cautions: It has been argued that "rainbowism" was associated with a unique, post-apartheid South African socio-political trajectory at the end of the 20th century, which initially contrasted with conventional post-colonialism. However, since then the post-apartheid epoch and associated concepts such as rainbowism and nation building have been displaced by orthodox post-colonialism in South Africa.Wynand Greffrath.

He now uses different strategies and realized that with sensitive information tact must be used, but also that the patient must be aware of the true probability of negative outcome. Many doctors, he argues, do not find that balance and tend to hedge information, "More than forty percent of oncologists withhold a prognosis from a patient if he or she does not ask for it or if the family requests that the patient not be told. A similar number speak in euphemisms, skirting the truth." This statement reads similarly to the Sirota and Juanchich study; bad news is very frequently sugar-coated in attempt to save face.

Mess+Noise website's Ben Gook warned Silverchair fans that "[t]hose hoping for a Silverchair Jr would be disappointed ... Over produced, under written and deceptively bland ... manages to fall in some awkward place between half-arsed and over-reaching". Faster Louder's reviewer observed it was "so sugar-coated, you feel the cavities appearing track by track ... lyrics on the album, seemingly peeled straight from a motivational poster, those annoying sayings that are plastered over high school classroom walls". In September Tambalane undertook a national tour to promote the album. Gillies told The Dwarf website that he looked forward to "[p]laying with Tambalane in small venues and really getting back to my grass roots is extremely fun".

Known as Sankrant in Goa and like in the rest of the country, people distribute sweets in the form of granules of sugar-coated till pulses among family members and friends, with the words,Till gull gheiat, godd uloiat, meaning Eat seasame and jaggery and sweeten your talk. 12-day Haldi Kumkum festival begins on Makar Sankranti, married women celebrate the festival till Ratha Saptami. Married women visit each other's homes where the women apply Halad(turmeric) and Kumkum (vermilion) to the foreheads of other women and put flowers in their hair, and offer them household gifts. Newly married women offer five sunghat or small clay pots with black beaded threads tied around them, to the deity.

"Tongue Tied" received mixed reviews from critics. Robert Cooke of Drowned in Sound said that the song's "bloated synth sounds like the soundtrack to an advert for some E number-riddled sweets written by Katy Perry, while the almost-rapping in the middle-eight sounds like a Pussycat Dolls pastiche". Matt Edsall of PopMatters said that the song "pumps Passion Pit-like beats that push the band into that same electro-pop category that so many other projects are involved in today, ruining the tone of the album a mere five minutes in". Max Raymond of musicOMH said that the song was a "potential summer smash but too sugar-coated in synths".

The review went on to praise the "sharp social commentary and the nifty world building". Kirkus Reviews gave Mockingjay a starred review, saying that the book is exactly what its fans are looking for and that "it will grab them and not let go". Susan Carpenter of the Los Angeles Times compared the battlefield to Iraq and said that the book is every bit as original as the first in the series, ending the review with "Wow". The Baltimore Sun Nancy Knight commented that the book "ends on an ostensibly happy note, but the heartbreaking effects of war and loss aren't sugar-coated" and that it will have readers thinking about the effects of war on society.

Upon its release, "Russian Roulette" received generally positive reviews from music critics. Jeff Benjamin of Billboard opined that unlike the "straightforward, in-your-face bubblegum" their past singles "Ice Cream Cake" and "Dumb Dumb" delivered, "Russian Roulette" brings a different flavor, incorporating 8-bit and arcade-inspired sounds into the mix and has "repetitive, nearly robotic-like hooks that are just as addicting as their past bangers". Writing for The Daily Dot, Sherly Tucci called it a "cute and bubbly song complemented by the bright colors of the music video". She also said that the members' sugar-coated voices in conjunction with an upbeat melody "make it impossible not to bob your head to the music".

A plate of dolly mixture Dolly mixture is a British confection, consisting of a variety of multi-coloured fondant shapes, such as cubes and cylinders, with subtle flavourings. The mixture consists of small soft sweets and sugar-coated jellies. The origins of the name are uncertain. It has been passed down through family history that the name came from the daughter of one of the confectioners that created the product, Mr. Clayton ("Dolly" was the pet name for his eldest daughter, Dorothy), but some people have speculated it originated around the time of the British Raj in India, as dal (or dhal) is a dried mixture of beans, peas, or legumes of different sizes and colours.

He worked for fellow-German American Claus Spreckels (1828–1908), who maintained a monopoly of the refining of sugar from Hawaii in California. Neuman met Hawaiian royalty when they would come to California to be entertained by Spreckels. Neumann was the Republican Party of California's candidate for the United States House of Representatives in November 1882 for the San Francisco district. However, he was attacked by the San Francisco Chronicle as being a "sugar coated candidate", claiming he's being used by Spreckels, and was defeated in the election. In 1883, Neumann came to the Hawaiian Islands to serve as legal counsel for Spreckels who was now the publisher of the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper, first in the fall for a short visit.

The continuing influence of psychedelia and neo- psychedelia along with increasing dissatisfaction with their throw-away moniker led to a name change in mid-2006 to The Nova Saints. The origins of this name are unknown, though it has been variously suggested that it was inspired by William S. Burroughs' novel Nova Express, indie band Pale Saints and the 1986 film Short Circuit. Late 2006 saw The Nova Saints enter Moles Studio in Bath to record tracks for what would become their debut release The Draft EP. They returned in early 2007 to re-record early demo track "Sugar Coated" for inclusion on Northern Star Records' Psychedelica Volume 2 compilation. The Draft EP itself emerged a couple of months later to positive reviews.

The closing track, "Songs for the Damned", includes lyrics that reference famous heavy metal albums and songs by Opeth (My Arms, Your Hearse, Blackwater Park, Damnation), Slayer (Reign in Blood), Carcass (Swansong, Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious, Heartwork), Cannibal Corpse ("Stripped, Raped and Strangled"), Deicide (Once Upon the Cross), Dying Fetus (Destroy the Opposition), The Dillinger Escape Plan ("Sugar Coated Sour"), Iron Maiden ("2 Minutes to Midnight"), and Danzig (as well as the song "20 Eyes" by Danzig's early band, the Misfits). This is also the first album to include clean vocals in tracks such as the title track and Memories of a Glass Sanctuary. The album sold just under 5,000 copies in its first week of release entering the Billboard 200 at number 126. Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett listed the album as one of his top 25 favorite albums from 2000 to 2009.

The Museu Etnográfico de Santo Espírito (Ethnographic Museum of Santo Espírito) relates aspects of the history and culture of the island. Apart from the sopas do impéro (soups traditionally served during Pentecost), Santa Maria has a rich gastronomic history that includes sopa de nabos (a turnip soup), bolo de panela (a pan cake), Ccçoila (a thick meat stew in a traditional ceramic pot), molho de figado (a liver stew/sauce), sopa de peixe (fish soup), and caldeirada de peixe (a mixture of fish or seafood in broth and/or bread). Sweet desserts, such as suspiros (meringues), melindres (honey cakes), biscoitos encanelados, tigeladas (a pudding), biscoitos de orelha, biscoitos brancos, biscoitos de aguardente and cavacas (sugar-coated biscuits), are also popular. Similarly, the wines of the São Lourenço foothills, as well as other wines and sweet liqueurs, have been commercialized.

The song is a ballad which has the girls singing what Sarah Davis at Dotmusic called a "sugar-coated" farewell to friend Geri Halliwell, who left the group months prior. Dill, coriander, and caraway are similar-looking herbs, but shorter-growing than fennel, reaching only . Dill has thread-like, feathery leaves and yellow flowers; coriander and caraway have white flowers and finely divided leaves (though not as fine as dill or fennel) and are also shorter-lived (being annual or biennial plants). Upon its release, Heroes of Mana received generally poor to middling reviews over a wide range, with numerical scores that range from 35 to 85 out of 100. Reviewers praised Heroes of Mana's graphics and visual style; IGN's Bozon praised the "classic character art" and "hand-painted backdrops", GameSpot's Kevin VanOrd noted the colorful graphics and "overflowing" animations, and Eurogamer's Simon Parkin said that the "fantastic presentation and artwork" "sugar-coated" the game. Patrick Gann of RPGFan, on the other hand, said that besides the cinematics and character portraits the graphics were not impressive, with poor sprites and animation. The plot was not as highly received; while Bozon called it a "pretty involving piece of Mana mythos", VanOrd said only that it was not "particularly engaging, but it's pleasant enough", while Parkin called the story "lingering intrusions" and Gann found it well written, but too linear and clichéd.

The film was released to mixed reviews and has a score of 61% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 23 reviews, and a score of a generally favorable 62% on Metacritic based on 7 reviews. Jay Carr from The Boston Globe stated "Cruise is believable as an athlete," and Janet Maslin of The New York Times called it "a well-made but sugar-coated working-class fable about a football star." Locally, Ed Blank of the Pittsburgh Press saw it as flawed, but captured the look of and Marylynn Urucchio of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette rated it as elementary Among the unfavorable reviews, TV Guide called the movie "cliche-riddled" and Richard Corliss of Time called it a "naive little movie (that) hopes to prove itself the Flashdance of football." In 2018, Thompson stated she initially did not want the part, as the script required her to participate in two nude scenes, but Cruise persuaded the producers to drop one of the scenes.

Mahajan formed the rock band Half Step Down in 2005 with his friend Dhaval Mudgal and launched the band's debut album ‘Overtures to Outerspace’ in August 2009. In 2007, when he was 19 years old he joined the veteran band Parikrama as a drummer. Most recently, he founded the electronic-rock band FuzzCulture in 2012 with musician Arsh Sharma. The duo released their first EP "Indulge Divulge" in 2013. A full-length album titled ‘No’ was released on 8th May 2015. The album featured music videos for the songs Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, Astronomy, and With Open Eyes. Mahajan and Sharma collaborated with Raoul Kerr and Andrew Heathers on their new EP called ‘Twins’, which was released in 2016. Other bands he’s been involved with include SOAP and Cyanide with whom Mahajan released the band’s debut album ‘Sugar Coated’. As a film composer Mahajan directed the music for Siddhant Sachdev's short-film ‘When the Joker Gets Going’ in 2011. In 2015, as part of his music production company StudioFuzz, Mahajan composed and directed the music for Divij Roopchand's film ‘Mast Qalandar’.

Marepe's Untitled (2002–04) during the 'Alien Nation' exhibition held in 2006 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London Marepe's artwork expresses his personal perception upon his life juxtaposed with the political and socio-cultural spirit of Brazil, represented using everyday objects, local materials and events from his home based surroundings. In 2013, during an exposition at the Inhotim Institute (Brazil) where Marepe exposed a metal sculpture, A Cabra / The Goat, his curator claimed to The New York Times that "Marepe is connected to the popular culture of Brazil, and how people represent the more rustic elements of their lives". In Veja Meu Bem (2007), made to last just two days at Tate Modern's Turbine Hall, Marepe reconstructed the atmosphere of a Brazilian funfair, installing a festival carousel and adding to it a chute of sugar-coated fruits, accessible to the viewers. The artwork was inspired by what he called "beautiful and precarious Brazil" and it was a way to bring a piece of his native country to London — a shift comparable to a prior installation art project, where the artist took a painted exterior wall from Santo Antonio de Jesus to the São Paulo Art Biennial.
