The term necrosol was first introduced by Graf Graf, A. (1986) Flora und Vegetation der Friedhöfe in Berlin (West). Alvan Wentworth Chapman (September 28, 1809 – April 6, 1899) was an American physician and pioneering botanist in the study of flora of the American Southeast.Makers of American Botany, Harry Baker Humphrey, Ronald Press Company, Library of Congress Card Number 61-18435 He wrote Flora of the Southern United States, the first comprehensive description of US plants in any region beyond the northeastern states. Chapman is a leader in the fields of hierarchy theory, systems theory, and complexity.

The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) is a scientific society for the study of flora, plant distribution and taxonomy relating to Great Britain, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The society was founded as the Botanical Society of London in 1836, and became the Botanical Society of the British Isles, eventually changing to its current name in 2013. It includes both professional and amateur members and is the largest organisation devoted to botany in the British Isles. Its history is recounted in David Allen's book The Botanists.

Activities such as hunting, fishing, boating, canoeing, swimming and observation of and study of flora and fauna are allowed and encouraged. In the hot and dry areas, various cactus and other arid area plants such as cats claw, biznaga cactus, maguey, organ cactus, and nopals can be found. Landa has one of the few mesophile forests in the state of Querétaro, which is mostly found in steep canyon areas between 800 and 2000 masl. Between 600 and 800 meters, the mesophile forest blends with tropical rainforest such as in the bottom of the Tancuilin Canyon. A study of flora in the municipality counted 774 species of vascular plants, with the most diversity found in old growth areas where the thick tree canopy traps moisture.

Tourists and scientists around the world visit the park for this reason, and thus created the Sociedad Científica Amigos del Parque Nacional Henri Pittier (SCAPNHP) in 1989. This society seeks to promote the study of flora and fauna of the park, while protecting of disturbing elements the natural habitat of these species. In the Estación Biológica Rancho Grande of the Ministry of Environment can visit a zoological museum with many of the species in the area by appointment. The Paseo del Pargo, which can be reached by taking Road of Choroní peaks can visit La Mesa, Palmarito, La Negra, La Negrita and El Cenizo.

Forbs specimens included; Drosera anglica (Oblong-leaved sundew), Menyanthes trifoliata (Buck-bean), Triglochin maritima (Side arrow grass). Graminoids specimens included; Carex chordorrhiza (Prostrate sedge), Carex lasiocarpa (Woollyfruit sedge), Carex limosa (mud sedge), Carex rostrata (Beaked sedge), Juncus stygius (Marsh rush), Scheuchzeria palustris (Scheuchzeria). Bryophytes specimens included; Sphagnum angustifolium (fine peat/bogmoss), Warnstorfia exannulata (brown peat moss). Common trees boitgh on the mainland and islands includes the black spruce (Picea mariana), jack pine (Pinus banksiana), white spruce (Picea glauca), and the paper birch (Betula papyrifera) In a 2005 study of flora in the park the first record of Carex echinata (star sedge) was found on Burntwood Island.
