A cause celèbre and widely publicized, thanks in part to the new telegraph, it is one of the series of events leading up to Civil War. John Price, an escaped slave, was arrested in Oberlin, Ohio, under the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. The competition was to be known as the Gillette Chatham Cup until 1974, when Lion Breweries took over sponsorship of the competition. p. 75 In all, 105 teams took part in the competition, with the eight National League teams being joined with a further 67 North Island and 30 South Island teams.

Until 1967 Rock Ferry was the first stop out of Birkenhead Woodside on the former GWR main line from Birkenhead Woodside to London Paddington station. All long-distance services called at Rock Ferry to give interchange connections with the Mersey railway for Liverpool bound passengers. From 1967 with the closure of Birkenhead Woodside station the Rock Ferry station became a 100% terminus and interchange station for electric services from the north from Liverpool's city centre and diesel trains services from the south from Chester and Helsby. The electric services to Liverpool were integrated into the Merseyrail urban network in the 1970s becoming the Wirral Line.

The three teams which did go down included two founding members of the league, Stop Out and Blockhouse Bay. Stop Out's season was poor but they did have one thing for which it was memorable — the debut of a young Wynton Rufer, later to make his mark both in New Zealand and overseas. Blockhouse Bay had been inaugural champions of the league in 1970, but a decade on their team was not of the same standard, and they never recovered from 10 defeats in their first 12 matches. Last-placed Nelson United also had a horror start to the season, though a mid-season revival did raise supporters' hopes of survival.

Copmanthorpe railway station was situated on the edge of and to the south east of the village of Copmanthorpe. Born in Neath, in southern Wales, Bray started his career as an apprentice at Football League Fourth Division side Hereford United before signing his first professional contract with the club in December 1980. He made his senior debut at the beginning of the 1981–82 season and in his first five matches he scored two goals. During the same campaign he had a loan spell at New Zealand club Stop Out. Bray became a first-team regular for Hereford over the following four seasons, making 108 league appearances and scoring four goals during his time at Edgar Street. Ahead of the 1985–86 campaign, Bray left Hereford to join Second Division club Huddersfield Town on a free transfer.

When his sister, whose husband managed the place, made such an offer in an attempt to buy the truck stop out from under him for about 10% of its fair market value, Oliver consulted Craig Lowell, who put one of his investment bank's real estate lawyers onto the case. WDU's season was highlighted by a 7-3 win over New Brighton, a goal aggregate record for the league up until that point. The Mount's season was badly affected by the loss of players to qualifying matches for the 1978 FIFA World Cup, and a goal drought late in the season cost them dearly. Nelson United started and ended the season brightly, but the middle of the season saw a disastrous run of ten matches without a win, leaving them seventh at the season's end. They were followed by Blockhouse Bay, who recorded their lowest league position yet, largely due to the loss of key players to other sides, notably Iain and Duncan Ormond, who had moved to North Shore and Stop out respectively.

At 7am Hélary had his rear wing damaged by debris, losing the lead, then at 8.50am Boutsen lost a lap with a fractured exhaust handing the lead back. Irvine, meanwhile, was driving blisteringly fast, breaking the lap record and making back a lap. But battery and clutch issues affected the Toyotas: Wallace's car came to a stop out at the Dunlop curves at 7.45am with gearbox problems, then Irvine's challenge ended after midday with a 30-minute engine repair, and finally Lees' car, despite all three drivers doing triple stints to save pit-time, needed gearbox repairs dropping it from 4th to 9th. In GT, the private Porsche of Jean-Pierre Jarier's Monaco Média team had been leading for 6 hours, chased by the remaining Jaguar who finally passed it in the 21st hour.

Bindman (1978: 13) Blake's great innovation in relief etching was to print from the relief, or raised, parts of the plate rather than the intaglio, or incised, parts. Whereas intaglio methods worked by creating furrows into which the acid was poured to create 'holes' in the plate and the ink then poured over the entire surface, Blake wrote and drew directly onto the plate with an acid- resistant material known as a stop-out. He would then embed the plate's edges in strips of wax to create a self-contained tray and pour the acid about a quarter of an inch deep, thus causing the exposed parts of the plate to melt away, and the design and/or text to remain slightly above the rest of the plate, i.e. in relief, like a modern rubber stamp.

When the Great Western Railway (GWR) main line was first opened in June 1838, the first stop out of Paddington was at , from . Intermediate stations were opened over the years, and the first stop became progressively closer to Paddington: a station at ( from Paddington) was opened in December 1838, and one at ( from Paddington) in 1868. In the meantime, the Hammersmith and City Railway had opened from Green Lane Junction (near the present Westbourne Park) to on 13 June 1864, with the first stop on that route originally at , out, although one opened at Westbourne Park ( out) in 1866. An agreement between the GWR and the Metropolitan Railway (who had co-owned the Hammersmith & City with the GWR since 1867) came into force on 1 July 1868, although it did not become legal until the following year.

The 1970 Chatham Cup was the 43rd annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. Early stages of the competition were run on a regional basis, however the structure of the competition was altered from previous years, largely due to the commencement of the New Zealand National Soccer League. Whereas in previous years qualification matches had been entirely run on a by-region basis culminating in two finals, one in each island, the draw from 1970 became more open, with regional qualifiers facing National League opposition in the final rounds. This led to several firsts for the competition, with Nelson United becoming the first South Island team to play a (pre-final) Chatham Cup match in the North Island, Western Suburbs FC becoming the first North Island team to play in Christchurch, and Stop Out being the first North Island team to play in Dunedin.

Auckland University were ejected from the league at the end of the season for failing to meet NZFA criteria, and three teams were promoted from the regional leagues. Somewhat controversially, this included two teams from the central region and none from the southern league, although this was partly because the southern league was undergoing restructuring. The new teams included one returning to the league (Napier City Rovers), one making their first appearance (Mount Maunganui), and a brand new team, Hutt Valley United, who were formed as a composite side from various Hutt Valley teams including Lower Hutt City, Petone, and Stop Out all of whom kept their own sides as feeder teams to the new club. The last-placed team in the 1987 league would normally have been relegated, but Dunedin City withdrew citing the financial overheads of travel in the league, and so no team was relegated.

All known copies of No Natural Religion were assembled from loose plates sold anonymously at Sotheby's on April 29, 1862, to Richard Monckton Milnes, and as such, there is no definitive order (except where the plates are numbered). Despite this lack of definitive order however, the sequence of the plates from the 1794 print is generally agreed to be the frontispiece, followed by the title page, then the Argument, then the plates numbered I–VI, followed by the plates reprinted in 1795.
