Brock Crags sends out a narrow climbing ridge eastwards to Rest Dodd, having steep ground on both sides. From here further ridges run east to Tarn Crag and north east to Calf Crag and the circuit of Greenburn. For many years each of these steps was an individual process, requiring teams of workers and many machines. In the steep hill wheat country of Palouse in the Northwest of the United States, steep ground meant moving machinery around was problematic and prone to rolling.

The 52nd Massachusetts did not take part in the first assault on Port Hudson on May 27 due to their assignments in the Bayou Teche region. By using two cables set up like a clothes line, the rigging can be pulled out and logs can be pulled across a logging setting where the trees have been previously felled. This machine is most suitable for steep ground where it is difficult to access the logs with other machinery. Swing yarders can also be used in flatter areas with lighter loads. While there are various rigging options, the most common one uses a grapple that can be lowered onto a logs and closed via the cable system.

We typically think of a cone of depression as being a circular feature surrounding the pumped well. However, aquifer characteristics can affect the shape of the cone of depression. For example, if there is a steep ground-water gradient in the area of pumpage, the cone will tend to be shorter in the upgradient direction and elongated in the downgradient direction. This is because the water is already flowing towards the well from the upgradient direction, so the cone of depression does not need to extend as far out to obtain water, whereas the water is flowing away from the well in the downgradient direction, so the cone of depression needs to reach further to obtain water.

There is no evidence of ancient settlement in Neepsend, the area being heavily forested with the steep ground to the north covered by the dense woodland of Old Park Wood, although a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead, found in 1921 close to Hillfoot Bridge does suggest ancient human activity in the area. The Scandinavians arrived in the 10th century and started to clear the woodland and turn the valley floor by the River Don into fields and meadows. The wood was further cleared between the early 17th century and the mid 19th century for timber and by charcoal burners. A network of fields were left on the high ground and a local well or spring probably gave this district its name of Parkwood Springs.

Castell Gwallter is situated in a prominent position about half a mile west of the village of Llandre. It is one of about 300 castles of its type in the area built to try to subdue the Welsh, a motte-and-bailey type fortification which originally had a tower built on a large mound. The motte is surrounded by a ditch and the inner bailey is small, and is surrounded by a larger outer enclosure. The whole site is very well-preserved and as there is no sign of building stone on top of the mound, the tower may have been made of wood. There is steep ground to the east and the north which provides natural defences, and the site is about higher than St Michael’s Church, Llandre to which it is adjacent.

Such a wave could be created by a sluice gate covering one end of the reservoir, possibly a permanent fixture such as a swinging flap or a rising gate. The size of the tank controlled the height of the wave and its volume. Hushing was most effective when used on steep ground such as the brow of a hill or mountain, the force of falling water lessening as the slope becomes smaller.

The Dawa river has a maximum and minimum elevation of 3098 and 169 metres above sea level, and the inclination of the basin is toward southeast. The exact location is between 3.92°- 6.47° N and 38.02°- 42.08° E. A significant proportion of the area in the northern and north-western highland is distinguished by ridges and gorges, whilst the south and southeast contour is distinguished by levelled ground, low relief, long valleys, spotted hills and steep ground parallel to the main river. The Dawa River encompasses a cool zone, a temperate zone and hot lowlands, these are the three major climatic zones of the country. The Ethiopian National Meteorology Agency collected monthly rainfall from 1996 to 2016 and found that there is a vast difference between the high rainfall areas, which include the cooler highland area, and low rainfall in the hot lowland areas of the Dawa river.

It comes close to the summits of 8 other of the 48 four-thousand footers: Liberty, Galehead, Zealand, Eisenhower, Monroe, Jefferson, Adams, and Moriah.
