Additionally, Sri Lanka saw the world's first elected national leader when the Sirimavo Bandaranaike led Sri Lanka Freedom Party won the July 1960 Ceylonese parliamentary election in an era where the Sri Lankan government was headed by the Prime Minister. Sworn in as Prime Minister, Bandaranaike went on to hold two of the most prominent ministries, Defence and Foreign Affairs. Bandaranaike's election drew international media coverage to Ceylon, with newspapers speculating that they would have to create a new word, stateswoman, to describe her. Bandaranaike served three separate terms as Prime Minister and was the longest-serving Prime Minister in Sri Lankan history, serving a total of 18 years in office.

Adrienne Louise Clarkson FRSC(hon) FRAIC(hon) FRCPSC(hon) (; née Poy; born February 10, 1939) is a Hong Kong-born Canadian journalist and stateswoman who served as Governor General of Canada, the 26th since Canadian Confederation. Clarkson arrived in Canada with her family in 1941, as a refugee from Japanese-occupied Hong Kong, and was raised in Ottawa. After receiving a number of university degrees, Clarkson worked as a producer and broadcaster for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and a journalist for various magazines. Her first diplomatic posting came in the early 1980s, when she promoted Ontarian culture in France and other European countries.

She is notable for one of the longest distance running careers, beginning with the 1972 Olympics as a 19-year-old running the 1500 metres, then the longest distance race for women, and again in the 1976 Olympics. She also qualified for the 1980 Summer Olympics but did not participate because of the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott. Her best performance was when she finished 5th in the Women's 10000 metres in 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Her final appearance was finishing 12th in the marathon in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona where, as the elder stateswoman of American track and field at age 39, she was selected to be the flagbearer in the opening ceremonies.

Silberberg was born in Dallas, Texas, to Alfred "Al" H. Silberberg, a petroleum engineer, and Barbara Arden Schwartz Silberberg, a community stateswoman and local Democratic Party activist. Silberberg received a bachelor's degree in international relations and history from American University in Washington, DC, and a master's degree in fine arts in playwriting from the School of Theater, Film and Television at the University of California, Los Angeles. Silberberg is the author of “Visionaries in Our Midst,” a book that profiles individuals making a difference in the United States. She is also the author of “And Life Will Be a Beautiful Dream,” a commissioned memoir about the meaningful life of a philanthropic family.

Fatima Ali Jinnah (; 31 July 1893 – 9 July 1967), widely known as Māder-e Millat ("Mother of the Nation"), was a Pakistani politician, dental surgeon, stateswoman, and one of the leading founders of Pakistan. She was the younger sister of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder and the first Governor General of Pakistan. After obtaining a dental degree from the University of Calcutta in 1923, she became a close associate and an adviser to her older brother, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who later became the first Governor General of Pakistan. A strong critic of the British Raj, she emerged as a strong advocate of the two nation theory and a leading member of the All-India Muslim League.

Mary Jane McLeod Bethune (born Mary Jane McLeod; July 10, 1875 – May 18, 1955) was an American educator, stateswoman, philanthropist, humanitarian, womanist, and civil rights activist. Bethune founded the National Council for Negro Women in 1935, established the organization's flagship journal Aframerican Women's Journal, and resided as president or leader for myriad African American women's organizations including the National Association for Colored Women and the National Youth Administration's Negro Division. She also was appointed as a national adviser to president Franklin D. Roosevelt, whom she worked with to create the Federal Council on Negro Affairs, also known as the Black Cabinet. She is well known for starting a private school for African- American students in Daytona Beach, Florida; it later continued to develop as Bethune-Cookman University.

Evangelina Estrada Kalaw (June 16, 1920 – May 25, 2017) was a Filipina stateswoman who served as a Senator in the Senate of the Philippines from 1965–1972 during the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos. She was one of the key opposition figures against Marcos' 20-year authoritarian rule and was instrumental in his downfall during the People Power Revolution. As a senator, she authored several laws relating to education in the Philippines, such as the salary standardization for public school personnel, the Magna Carta for Private Schools, the Magna Carta for Students, and an Act to institute a Charter for Barrio High Schools. She was also among the Liberal Party candidates injured during the Plaza Miranda bombing on August 21, 1971.

Anna Ilyinichna Yelizarova-Ulyanova (; , Nizhny Novgorod – 19 October 1935, Moscow) was a Russian revolutionary and a Soviet stateswoman. The older sister of Vladimir Lenin and of Maria Ilyinichna Ulyanova, she married (1863-1919), who became Soviet Russia's first People's Commissar for Transport (in office, 1917-1918). In 2011 the State Historical Museum in Moscow put on display a 1932 letter from Anna to Joseph Stalin, in which she reveals that Lenin's maternal grandfather was a Jewish native of Zhitomir who converted in order to leave the Pale of Settlement. She asked Stalin to make this publicly known in order to counter increasing anti-Semitism in the Soviet Union at the time, but he refused and told her to keep the matter secret.

After World War II ended he negotiated Burmese independence from Britain, convinced many of the minority ethnic groups to join his new country, and formed a cabinet that broadly reflected the ethnic and religious diversity of the country. He served as the 5th Premier of the British Crown Colony of Burma from 1946 to 1947 and his party, the Anti- Fascist People's Freedom League, won a majority in the 1947 Burmese general election, but he and most of his cabinet were assassinated shortly before the country became independent. One of his political opponents, U Saw, was tried and hanged for the crime, but alternative theories of who was responsible have been popular from the time of Aung San's assassination to the present day. Aung San's daughter, Aung San Suu Kyi, is a stateswoman, politician, and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

He has also authored a biography of Dumaguete stateswoman and entrepreneur Ma. Luisa Locsin, Inday Goes About Her Day (Locsin Books, 2012), and edited Handulantaw (Cultural Affairs Committee, 2013), a coffee-table book celebrating the arts and culture of Silliman University. He has also edited two landmark anthologies, Future Shock Prose: An Anthology of Young Writers and New Literatures (Silliman Press, 2002), which was nominated as Best Anthology in the National Book Awards given by the Manila Critics Circle, and Celebration: An Anthology Commemorating the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Silliman University National Writers Workshop (Silliman Press, 2013). His short stories, poems, and essays have been published in various anthologies, and in Rogue Magazine, Esquire Philippines Magazine, Smile Magazine, CNN Philippines, 8List, The Sunday Times, Sands & Coral, Dapitan, Tomas, Philippines Free Press, Philippines Graphic, Sunday Inquirer Magazine, and Philippine Daily Inquirer. He also writes two weekly columns, "The Spy in the Sandwich" for Visayan Daily Star and "Tempest in a Coffee Mug" for Dumaguete MetroPost.

Klompé retired after spending 23 years in national politics and became active in the public sector and occupied numerous seats as a nonprofit director on several boards of directors and supervisory boards (Bible Society, Dutch Women's Council, Bernard van Leer Foundation, Society of Prosperity, Dutch Cancer Society, SNV Development Organisation, Open Doors Foundation and the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace) and served on several state commissions and councils on behalf of the government (Council for Culture, Advisory Commission for Emancipation, Staatsbosbeheer and the Education Council) and as an advocate and activist for Poverty reduction, Basic income, Women's rights and European integration. Klompé was known for her abilities as a manager and policy wonk. Klompé was granted the honorary title of Minister of State on 17 July 1971 and continued to comment on political affairs as a stateswoman until her death at the age of 74 and holds the distinction as the first woman government minister and the first woman awarded the honorary title of Minister of State and the fifth longest-serving government minister after World War II with 11 years, 145 days.
