William Ernest "Smiley" Adams (October 4, 1935 – June 19, 2003) was a trainer of Thoroughbred racehorses who trained Master Derby to win the 1975 Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the U.S. Triple Crown series. In what was the 100th running of the Preakness, Darrel McHargue aboard Master Derby defeated Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure by a full length. Always known as "Smiley", William Adams left school at age 14 to work as a stableboy at a racetrack. Three years later, the then 17-year-old lied about his age to join the United States Marine Corps and would serve overseas in the Korean War.

Joseph M. McCahey (May 11, 1888 – March 13, 1917) was an American champion jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing who won a national riding title in 1914. Joe McCahey began his career as a stableboy and jockey in training for an up- and-coming young trainer named Jim Fitzsimmons who loaned him to stable owner and trainer Tom Mannix to ride in Louisiana and Florida during the winter. When Mannix died in the fall of 1910 Fitzsimmons began giving McCahey more rides and loaning him to other top level trainers such as T. J. Healey. In 1913 McCahey finished second in wins nationally behind Merritt Buxton and the following year when he led the nation in earnings he finished second in wins nationally behind John McTaggart.

After her marriage to Cao Shi, Princess Pingyang had a son named Cao Xiang (曹襄, though some suspect that he was an adopted shu son rather than the princess' biological son), who inherited his father's title in 131 BC. Princess Pingyang maintained a close relationship with her brother Emperor Wu, and he often visited her at her estate. She was instrumental in the union between Emperor Wu and Wei Zifu, who would eventually become his second empress. At the time, Wei Zifu was working as a singer/dancer at the princess' estate, Emperor Wu took a liking to her and brought her back to his palace as a concubine. Wei Zifu's half-brother Wei Qing, who was also working in Princess Pingyang's estate as a stableboy, was sent along to serve the palace as a royal guard horsekeeper.
