Sporting houses The school offers four sporting houses, which include Bradman, Cuthbert, Elliot and Fraser. Upon enrolment to Dakabin students are placed within these houses. Throughout the year there are opportunities for all students to participate in Swimming Carnivals, Athletics Carnivals and Sports' Days. Sporting teams The students are able to further their involvement in sport by joining a sporting team.

There are four sporting houses at KGSC which were also the sporting houses of KGSHS: # Herbert # Lutwyche # Petrie # Bowen The houses were originally based on the first letter surname, however, to even out the numbers in each house this has become less obvious. In previous years, members of Schools of Excellence were all placed in the same sporting house, however this was unfair on other houses and the policy was scrapped. The names of the houses are all derived from important persons in the development of Queensland. Many suburbs near the school are also named after these people, and so many students have come to believe that the houses are named after the suburbs.

In the junior school, students must also study SOSE, Science, Physical Education and a language. Students have other options such as drama, media, art or business.

As with most Australian schools, Ruyton utilises a house system. Girls from Prep to Year 12 are divided into four houses, each named after a former Principal of Ruyton - Anderson (Red), Bromby (Navy), Daniell (Sky Blue), and Lascelles (White). The houses are primarily sporting houses, competing annually in athletics, swimming and cross-country carnivals. They are also involved in inter-house debating and performing arts (PAHF) festivals.

There are three sporting houses at Aviation High, Miller, Hinkler and Kingsford-Smith. They are named after famous Australian aviators Robin Miller, Bert Hinkler and Charles Kingsford-Smith respectively. The competition between the houses are tight in the annual Cross-Country, Swimming, Athletics and Intra-School sport. The extra-curricular activities offered by Aviation High are often utilised by not only students, but also members of staff.

Neall came seventh in a time of 2 m 21.88 s, more than five seconds outside the medals. She was a schoolmate of fellow Munich gold medal winning swimmer Shane Gould at Turramurra High School on the north shore of Sydney. Turramurra High School has named two of their sporting houses after Gail Neall and Shane Gould. Overshadowed, she did not receive a civic reception from the local council upon her return to Australia.

Woree State High School (WSHS) is a public school situated in the southern suburbs of Cairns, North Queensland, Australia. The school originally provided education from Year 8 to 12 but in 2015 began providing education to Year 7 as well and has around 750 students. It was opened in 1985. It has four sporting houses(Trojan, Gemini, Pindar & Apollo) which are named after types of sugar cane as a reminder of the history of the land.

Before becoming co-educational, Bendigo South East was known as Flora Hill Secondary College, and before that both Flora Hill High School and The Bendigo's School for Domestic Arts, a Girls High School. Flora Hill Secondary College, in honour of it history, named their sporting houses after influential females in history. Gold was (Caroline) Chisholm, Red was Bronte after the three Bronte sisters, Blue was (Daisy) Bates and Green was (Florence) Nightingale. Flora Hill Secondary College amalgamated with Golden Square Secondary College in 2008.

Sports Captains are also grade 12 and 11 students who work together to promote the sporting culture within the school. There are also house captains from each of the sporting houses. The Arts Captains are grade 12 and 11 students who work closely with the Arts Head of Department and Arts Teachers who help promote Corinda's Arts programs and subjects which are combined of: Drama, Music, Visual Art, Practical Art, Dance and Digital Design Studies. Portfolio Captains help promote their elected portfolio within the school community.

Their famous 70 meter long banners, North is Speed, Power, and a cheer squad, led by the Committee organizing War cries, or COW,North 1980. (St. Joseph's College Magazine, First publication since 1953) North Melbourne, St Josephs, North Melbourne where notable features of the annual competitions at the Olympic Park Stadium. St Joseph's College students also became members of one of the schools sporting houses or teams. These built on the existing pastoral class groupings to generate team spirit during sporting carnivals with students wearing their team colors.

The high school is adjacent to the King Street Primary School, and on the same site as the Singleton Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Campus of the Hunter Institute of Technology. The school has a comprehensive curriculum offering a diverse range of traditional subjects and dual accredited vocational education courses within the school as well as providing access to TAFE delivered Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at Singleton TAFE. The school colours are royal blue and sky blue. The sporting houses are Burdekin (blue), Elliott (yellow), Howe (red) and Munro (green).

The school's first Principal was J. P. Quinlan and its first year enrolment had 300 students. Principal Quinlan had originally wanted the school's motto to be ANZAC, but that was not allowed, so he then chose the , translated as "courage and valour", that remains the school's motto today. The school originally had four sporting houses: Prospect (team colours black and gold); Kanangra (red); Werriwa (blue) and Lansdowne (green).

The first Principal, J.S. Rae, was responsible for the initial intake of 368 students and staff of twenty. In Form 1, the equivalent of Year 7 today, classes went from 1A to 1M with as many as 48 students to a class. The school colours chosen were two shades of blue and grey with the motto Opera Ad Maiora, which may be translated from Latin to "Work for Higher Endeavour". The sporting houses, reflecting the history of the area, were named after the ferries that originally carried patrons to the picnic grounds: Rawson, Napier, Ferguson and Carrington.

The Sporting District was an area near 16th and Harney Streets in Omaha, Nebraska where city boss Tom Dennison kept the majority of his gambling, drinking and prostitution interests from the late 19th century until the end of his reign in 1933. "Cowboy" James Dahlman was reputedly voted to the first of eight terms as mayor of Omaha because he was more tolerant of the Dennison's "Sporting District" in the middle of the city. The term sporting was a common 19th-century euphemism for gambling and/or prostitution. Many communities around the U.S. used this term; brothels were often referred to as sporting houses.

The school holds annual swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals, with achieving students competing in higher level competitions. Within the school there are four sporting houses: Kingsbury (red and white), Rowe (black and white), Wheeler (green and yellow) and OSU (brown and yellow), named after prominent members of the local community and the Old Students Union. Gosford and Orange High School have an annual school exchange program which has taken place since 1968. Each year sporting teams are selected from both Orange and Gosford High Schools to compete against each other for the Malynley Shield, the name Malynley being an acronym of Dews' family members who donated the shield.

St. Elizabeth's Catholic Primary School is located at 55 Effingham Street on the corner of Cracknell Road. The school has 3 sporting houses, all named after people involved in the school's development and significant people in the Christian faith: Bergin (gold) named after Fr Basil Bergin the first parish priest when the school opened, Elliot (red) which is named after Fr Graham Elliott who was a parish priest at St Elizabeth's from 1976–1999 and Nagle (blue) which is named after Nano Nagle. The school's motto is "Caritas Christi", which is displayed on the boys' uniform and on the balcony of the Christi Centre where the students participate in art & music. There is an OSHC Centre downstairs.

The Gryphon School was created from an amalgamation of three schools: Lord Digby's Girls School, Foster's Grammar School for Boys and St Aldhelm's Secondary Modern School. This merger is not forgotten and many students understand how their school was formed through a miniature history lesson provided in physical education lessons. This miniature history lesson ties in with the school's sporting competitiveness and the names of the three merged schools and the new school name "The Gryphon School" still exist as sporting houses. students are assigned a house as to which they are a part of during inter-house events such as rugby, football and hockey in addition to the more known "sports day".

Upon landing in San Francisco, he quickly made himself useful in local boxing circles as a capable referee and exponent of the Marquess of Queensberry Rules. The Call noted, "It is said of him that he has displayed more fairness and ability in that line within a few days than has, perhaps, been shown here before in months." Despite that encomium, he was arrested, along with three other participants in a November 1883 bout, on charges of conducting a prizefight, which was illegal there at the time. A trial later that winter saw Dutchy and colleagues go free, and he continued to be active in the boxing venues of late 19th century San Francisco, including the sporting houses of Harry Maynard, Jack Hallinan and Clarence Whistler.

It is along Cadwallader Creek that the major mines of the Bridge River goldfields are located at Bralorne and Pioneer Mine. Other mining towns and camps built around mines in the Bridge River goldfields were Minto City, Wayside, Congress, Lajoie, Haylmore and Brexton (aka Fish Lake). Around Bralorne other localities such as Ogden grew up along road right-of-ways and slips of land between the mineral claims which dominate the northwestern flank of the Bendor Range in this area, providing services not approved of by company towns, including "sporting houses", some of which were also in Gold Bridge until forced to move to Minto as Gold Bridge became larger. Other gold-mining activity is found throughout the river's basin.

Gold Bridge is an unincorporated community in the Bridge River Country of British Columbia, Canada. Although numbering only around 40 inhabitants, Gold Bridge is the service and supply centre for the upper basin of the Bridge River Valley, which includes recreation-residential areas at the Gun Lakes, Tyaughton Lake, Marshall Creek, and Bralorne; and the nearby ghost towns of Brexton and Pioneer Mine. Located at the confluence of the Bridge River with its south fork, the Hurley River, Gold Bridge began as a freewheeling merchandising and services center supplementary to the company-run gold mining towns, and in its heyday had a large commercial roster ranging from insurance and stockbrokers through to bootleggers and "sporting houses". Gold Bridge can be accessed via Highway 40 from Lillooet, or via an upgraded backroad from Pemberton and Whistler known as the Hurley Main, which uses a pass at the head of the Hurley River to access the valley of the upper Lillooet River north of Pemberton.
