After working in Dundalk, for six years teaching art, O'Sullivan returned to Limerick where he was a member of Contact Studios for six years. He has been a portrait artist for twenty years, but later moved into life painting, combining non-traditional techniques, including dripping paints, splats and blobs of paint, scraping, scratching as well as more conventional painting methods into a complex layering process. He also works with various transparencies and glazes, drying at different rates to achieve a contrast of textures. Bug splats, New South Wales, 2009 Anecdotal evidence for insect decline has been offered by those who recall apparently greater insect abundance in the 20th century. Entomologist Simon Leather recalls that, in the 1970s, windows of Yorkshire houses he visited on his early-morning paper round would be "plastered with tiger moths" attracted by the house's lighting during the night. Tiger moths have now largely disappeared from the area. Another anecdote is recalled by environmentalist Michael McCarthy concerning the vanishing of the "moth snowstorms", a relatively common sight in the UK in the 1970s and earlier.

YrWall is a Digital Graffiti Wall developed by event company Luma, where designs are created on a large wall using a modified spray paint can. The can contains no paint, instead it has an IR light which is tracked by a computer vision system and the image immediately back-projected onto the wall. The inbuilt YrWall software has much of the functionality of a typical computer paint program, with a pop-out interface which enables users to change colour, spray width, opacity, work with stencils and use animated items such as swirls, stars, drips and splats. Recent additions to YrWall include options to email a jpeg of the completed design and create personalised stickers and T-shirts.

The major advance that the Microtan 65 had over a lot of the competition at that time was that the video display was flicker free. At the time a lot of microcomputers would either access the screen memory asynchronously to the video timing (causing flicker and splats on the screen), or would write to the screen memory during a non-display period (which was slow). Rod decides his strategy will be to jump the distance from the top of the cliff to the water; however, that distance is about 2 metres longer than the world record long jump, and even though Rod has his legs waxed in order to reduce air resistance, he fails. The Womp tests several strategies by throwing watermelons off the cliff, but every watermelon splats on the ground; he eventually succeeds by wrapping himself in over 900m of Bubble Wrap.

From a mere uncompromising cross- bar intended to strengthen the construction it blossomed, almost suddenly, into an elaborate scroll-work or an exceedingly graceful semicircular ornament connecting all four legs, with a vase-shaped knob in the centre. The arms and legs of chairs of this period were scrolled, the splats of the back often showing a rich arrangement of spirals and scrolls. This most decorative of all types appears to have been popularized in England by the cavaliers who had been in exile with Charles II, and had become familiar with it in the north- western parts of the European continent. During the reign of William III and Mary II these charming forms degenerated into something much stiffer and more rectangular, with a solid, more or less fiddle-shaped splat and a cabriole leg with pad feet.
