Takeda family His most famous student was the founder of aikido, Morihei Ueshiba and it is the popularity of this modern martial arts form that is responsible for much of the interest in Daitō-ryū today. Hosaku Matsuda was taught by Sōkaku, who in turn taught Yoshiji Okuyama, who in turn founded the Hakkō-ryū Jujutsu school. Okuyama taught Michiomi Nakano, who later as Dōshin Sō, founder of Nippon Shorinji Kempo. Choi Yong-Sool, the founder of Hapkido was adopted by Sokaku and trained with him as well.
Hungry, homeless and having nowhere to go, the four men decide to stick with Park-ha. Their leader, Lee-gak claims to be the Crown Prince of Joseon (Park Yoochun), along with his entourage - scholar Song Man-bo (Lee Tae-ri), personal bodyguard Woo Yong-sool (Jung Suk-won), and palace eunuch Do Chi-san (Choi Woo-shik). One day, Crown Prince Lee Gak sees Se-na who is the spitting image of his beloved wife, who was found drowned in the 18th century. He is convinced she is his wife's reincarnation.
She uses her last bits of magic to mesmerize the woman that she is Belinda, her child. However, a week later, Koboi is detained by the LEP, and Holly is cleared of all charges over Commander Root's murder. However, she is frustrated by Commander Root's replacement, Ark Sool, so she resigns and starts a private investigation firm with Mulch Diggums. It is also apparent that Artemis has had a change of heart, as he anonymously donates the famed painting The Fairy Thief, which he had stolen directly before Koboi's bio-bomb attack, to the Louvre museum.
Grand Master Ji Han Jae (left) and Hapkido founder Choi Yong Sul (right). Ji Han-Jae (지한재) was undoubtedly the prime mover in the art of Korean hapkido. It is due to his physical skills, technical contributions, promotional efforts and political connections as head hapkido instructor to the presidential body guard under Korean President Park Chung-hee that hapkido became popularized, first within Korea and then internationally. If the martial art education of Choi Yong-Sool is unconfirmed, the same must be said for martial art history of Ji Han-Jae's training, apart from his time as a student of Choi.
Together, they developed the Shin Moo Kwan(신무관) branch of Hapkido. In 1963 Kim Jung-Soo (김정수) decided to go his own way and opened his own dojang in Taegu under the banner of Yun Bee Kwan (윤비관). Later, his students began opening branch schools throughout the greater Taegu aerea, under various names, but still considered to be part of the Yun Bee Kwan (윤비관) family. These schools are known to hold tightly to the original teachings of Choi, Yong Sool (김정수), while also including most of the refinements done by Kim Moo-Hong (김무홍) in terms of kicking methods.
The birth of modern hapkido can be traced to the efforts of a group of Korean nationals in the post-Japanese colonial period of Korea, Choi Yong-Sool (최용술) (1904–1986) and his most prominent students; Chinil Chang, his personally chosen successor, Seo Bok- Seob, the first student of the art; Ji Han-Jae (born 1936), one of the earliest promoters of the art; Kim Moo-Hong, a major innovator; Myung Jae-Nam, a connector between the art of hapkido and aikido, Myung Kwang-Sik the historian and ambassador, all of whom were direct students of Choi or of his immediate students.
Another prominent top student who became crucial to the survival of Doju Choi's full system was Chinil Chang, the personally chosen second Doju (Grandmaster) and the only man awarded the 10th Dan and the title of Doju directly from Doju Choi. Students of importance who were trained by Choi during the later periods of his teaching were Kim Jeong-yoon, Kim Yoon-Sang () who later went on to form his own offshoot Hapki yusul organization to fabricate and support his erroneous and misguided claims of being the surviving grandmaster of hapkido.Spiedel, Rod. The other contenders for the Speaker position in turn acknowledged the election result and congratulated Shire on his victory. During the session, the parliamentarians also elected MP Abdihamid Sheikh Abdisalam of the Bari region and MP Haji Hussein Dirie of the Sool region as Puntland's new First Deputy Speaker and Second Deputy Speaker, respectively. Abdisalam was new to his position, while Dirie was re-elected to a post that he had held since 2008. On 5 January 2014, Federal Government of Somalia Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed's media office issued an official statement congratulating Puntland's new Speaker and Deputy Speakers on their election.
He was fighting the Sayyid and was ultimately killed by the Dervish movement, in the Sool region of northwestern Somalia. Bulhan's objective was to avenge his father's death by killing Mohammed Abdullah Hassan himself, he never fulfilled his goal as a result of him having to leave the front-line as a consequence of him being critically wounded during the fighting. Time went by and he healed from his injuries. Being a man of immense faith he decided to fulfill one of the five pillars of Islam so he subsequently embarked on a journey to perform the yearly pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj).
Celebrating Somaliland'ś Independence Day, 18 May 2016 Somaliland continues to claim the entire area of the former British Somaliland. It is currently in control of the western half of the former British Somaliland, with northeastern Maakhir having declared itself a separate, unrecognised autonomous state within Somalia in July 2007, and the disputed southeastern Sool state had been under the control of neighbouring Puntland. A coalition of Gadabuursi intellectuals hailing from the westernmost Awdal province have threatened to secede if Somaliland's independence is recognised. Tensions between Puntland and Somaliland escalated into violence several times between 2002 and 2009.
In 1967, he won the Asian Championship. From 1975 to 1978, Chung managed Hwang Kee’s main training dojang, located near Seoul Station (Jong Gu section of Dongja-dong) in downtown Seoul, Korea. Chung became proficient in several martial arts, studying Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, and Taekwondo. He created one of the essential poomse training forms for Tang Soo Do; Kicho Hyeong Sa Bu (Basic Form 4) as well as several others specific to Moo Sool Do. During the 1960s, he was a martial arts combat instructor for the Republic of Korea Armed Forces and active duty United States soldiers in Vietnam.
Unlike Japanese martial arts which often use "-do" at a name's end (meaning "way"), traditional Korean martial arts were called "Mu Sool" or "Mu Yea". This could lead to some confusion since although the "do" in Taekwondo and Hapkido means "way" (as in Karate-do and Aikido), the historical meaning in Hwarangdo is different from the modern usage (also "way" like the others). When that martial art was invented in the 1960s, the name was borrowed from an ancient group (do) consisting mainly of the children of the gentry class (yangban) for learning military tactics, leadership, and fighting skills.
The Anarchy period saw the region torn apart with internecine factional fighting, and a determined attempt by al-Ittihad al-Islami to take over the region by force from their base in Bosaso, leading to an incredibly bloody war that the SSDF won at high cost. Finally in 1998, the SSDF along with the United Somali Party and the Somali National Democratic Union agreed to form a joint administration and state, that being Puntland. Ever since then, Puntland and Somaliland have been in a sometimes-violent dispute over the primarily Darod regions of Sool and Sanaag.
Among them are: the Korean martial art of hapkido founded by Choi Yong-sool, who claims to have been trained under Takeda Sokaku; Choi gave two versions of his story, one in 1962 and another completely different one in 1982. Hakkō-ryū founded by Okuyama Yoshiharu, who trained under Takeda Sokaku; and Shorinji Kempo, founded by Nakano Michiomi (later known as So Doshin), who is known to have trained under Okuyama. Additionally, Icho-ryū – an offshoot designed for police defense is practiced widely in Washington state. Many techniques from Hakko-ryu are similar to the techniques of Daitō-ryu.
Myung Jae Nam exchanged martial art techniques and information with an Aikido practitioner named Hirata in 1965, for a period of about four years. In 1969, Myung broke from the Korea Hapkido Association (Dae Han Hapkido Hyub Hwe) and formed his own group called the "Han Kuk Hapki Sool Hwe". He considered himself associated with the Aikikai in Japan and on his certificates from that era, he even has aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba's name at the top. Myung was the former Korean representative for the Aikikai and has included many aikido-like techniques into his version of hapkido.
An historic summit was convened in Boocame from November 15 – November 23 of 2007, by the traditional leaders of the Dulbahante (Dhulbahante) sub-clan of the clan. The Dulbahante traditional chiefs issued an official communiqué on October 15, 2007 regarding the secessionist Somaliland region's militias’ aggression and occupation of Laascaanood (LasAnod), the regional capital of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions of Somaliland. All 14 major traditional chiefs of the Dulbahante clan attended this summit. In addition to the traditional chiefs, there were many intellectuals (women & men), students and civic organizations from outside and inside of the country attending the summit.
Glarus Süd incorporates all of the valley of the Linth river from Mitlödi, just upstream of the town of Glarus, to the source, together with the whole of the valley of the Sernf river that joins the Linth in Schwanden. It also incorporates the mountain ranges that flank both valleys and separate them. With the exception of the resort village of Braunwald, all the centres of population of the municipality lie in one or other valley. Heading upstream from Mitlödi along the valley of the Linth, the villages of Sool, Schwändi, Schwanden, Nidfurn, Haslen, Leuggelbach, Luchsingen, Hätzingen, Diesbach, Betschwanden, Rüti and Linthal are encountered.
The Sernf river in Schwanden Schwanden is situated at an elevation of at the point of confluence of the Linth and Sernf rivers. The village is located along the roads to Elm, Linthal and Schwändi, and includes the formerly independent (until 1876) hamlet of Thon. The villages of Nidfurn and Haslen lie to south in the valley of the Linth, whilst the village of Engi lies to the east in the valley of the Sernf. To the north, the village of Mitlödi lies in the valley of the Linth, whilst Schwandi and Sool are respectively on the west and east slopes of the valley.
The territory was historically part of British Somaliland, a British protectorate that granted independence in 1960 and then formed a union with neighboring Italian colony Trust Territory of Somaliland to form the Somali Republic. When Somali Civil War broke out, a successor state of the British protectorate was formed in 1991 under the name Somaliland, declaring independence from Somalia. The dispute started in 1998, when Puntland was formed as an autonomous state of Somalia and declared the region as part of its territory based on tribal affiliation of the locals. Puntland claims Sool, Sanaag and Ayn (Khatumo-SSC) based on kinship ties with the regions' dominant Darod clans.
They exclusively dominate the Woqooyi Galbeed region, and the Togdheer region, and form a majority of the population inhabiting the western and central areas of Sanaag region, including the regional capital Erigavo. The Isaaq also have a large presence in the western and northern parts of Sool region as well, with Habr Je'lo sub-clan of Isaaq living in the Aynabo district whilst the Habr Yunis subclan of Garhajis lives in the eastern part of Xudun district and the very western part of Las Anod district. They also live in the northeast of the Awdal region, with Issa Musse sub-clan of Isaaq being centered around Lughaya and its environs.
In 2000, he ran a Kuk Sool Won school at the International Convention, Jerusalem. In 2002, he founded the Abir Warrior Arts Association of Israel, teaching his own style of "Abir-Qesheth Hebrew Warrior Arts" () in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, claiming it to be a tradition of his family dating to Israelite antiquity preserved by an underground school of "Bani Abir" in Habban, Yemen, and styling himself Aluf Abir "Grandmaster of Abir". Sofer perceives this style of martial arts training to be a continuation of the practices of the Jewish people prior to the Second Temple period. The word abir in Modern Hebrew means "knight".
The Dhulbahante (, ) is a Somali clan family, part of the Harti clan which itself belongs to the largest Somali clan-family — the Darod. In Somalia, the Dhulbahante primarily settle in the three northern regions of Sool, Sanaag, and Togdheer, but they also have a significant presences in Jubaland, particularly in the city of Kismayo. In Ethiopia, they settle in the Dollo Zone specifically in the woredas of Boh, Danot and Werder. The clan is known for its armed resistance against the British Empire and the historic role it assumed in support of the Dervish Movement which waged a bloody war against colonial powers from 1899 to 1920.
Patches that identify the system of Kuk Sool Won, the country where the practitioner lives, and other similar insignia, may also adorn this uniform. Regulations state that any clothing worn underneath, such as a T-shirt, leotard, or sports bra, should be black in colour as well. This training uniform can be worn by all members, whereas the other two uniforms are reserved only for those who have attained the rank of black belt. The first of the remaining two types of uniforms is essentially identical to the "training uniform" detailed above, but has a gold coloured fringe sewn along the bottom edge of the jacket.
Choi Yong-Sool's first student and the first person known to have opened up a dojang as a chief instructor under grandmaster Choi. After watching Choi Yong- Sool successfully defend himself against a group of men when an argument erupted in the yard of the Seo Brewery Company, Seo, who was the chairman of the company, invited Choi to begin teaching martial arts to Seo and some of the workers at the distillery where Seo had prepared a makeshift dojang. In 1951, Seo eventually opened up the first proper dojang, which was called the "Daehan Hapki YuKwonSool Dojang ()".Hentz, Eric (editor), Taekwondo Times Vol.
While some commentators claim hapkido has a Japanese lineage, others state that its origins lay with indigenous Korean martial arts. Choi Yong- Sool's first student, and the man whom some claim helped him develop the art of hapkido was Seo Bok-Seob, a Korean judo black belt when they met. Some of Choi's other respected senior students are: Chinil Chang, Lim Hyun-Soo, Ji Han-Jae, Chung Kee Tae, Kim Moo-Hong, and arguably Suh In-Hyuk () and Lee Joo- Bang () who went on to form the arts of Kuk Sool Won and modern Hwa Rang Do respectively (though some argue that their training stems from time spent training under Kim Moo-Hong).
Hapkido emphasizes circular motion, redirection of force, and control of the opponent. Practitioners seek to gain advantage over their opponents through footwork and body positioning to incorporate the use of leverage, avoiding the use of brute strength against brute strength. The art was adapted from Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu as it was taught by Choi Yong-Sool (최용술) when he returned to Korea after World War II after having lived in Japan for 30 years. This system was later combined by Choi´s disciples with kicking and striking techniques of indigenous and contemporary arts such as Taekkyon, and Tang Soo Do; as well as various throwing techniques and ground fighting from Japanese Judo.
Choi Yong-sool (; November 9, 1904 – June 15, 1986), alternative spelling Choi Yong-sul, was the founder of the martial art Hapkido (Hangul: 합기도; hanja: 合氣道). He was born in today's Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, and was taken to Japan during the Japanese occupation of Korea when he was eight years old. Choi later stated that he became a student of Takeda Sōkaku, and studied a form of jujutsu known as Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu (大東流合気柔術) while in Japan.허인욱의 무인이야기 장보고와 정년 그리고 송징 This is disputed by some parties, due to the historically acrimonious relationship between Japan and Korea, and lack of clear documentary evidence (see below).
The healing makes him pledge a debt to Short. In the Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception, Verbil (now a captain) interviews kleptomaniac dwarf Mulch Diggums, who breaks into a shuttleport so that he can steal a shuttle. After telling Verbil that Short is alive but in danger, and that Opal Koboi has escaped, Verbil reluctantly allows Diggums to knock him out and steal a shuttle (fulfilling his debt to Short, as Diggums was doing it to help her). Later, Verbil relays Diggums' message to Foaly, who checks on Koboi's status, which leads to the discovery that the Koboi in the clinic was a clone, which prompts Commander Ark Sool to order the launch of the supersonic shuttle.
Närep has also appeared in several Estonian television series, most notably as the character Berit in the Kanal 2 drama series Pilvede all from 2012 until 2013, and as Vaike, one of the main characters on the TV3 comedy series Papad mammad from 2016 until 2018. In 2012, she had a prominent role as Reet Sool in the Andres Maimik and Rain Tolk directed and penned television comedy film Umbkotid, which also premiered as a feature film in Estonian theatres. Närep has also made appearances in such other television series as the TV3 comedy series Doktor Silva, the Eesti Televisioon (ETV) crime series Ohtlik lend, the Kanal 2 crime series Kelgukoerad, and the TV3 comedy-crime series Kättemaksukontor.
At Discomad Studio, the only recording studio on the main Island.¹ In a country where the music is as rich and vital as its flora and fauna,Solorazaf plays guitar, bass and drums on countless recordings for different artists from the various regions across Madagascar. Self-taught, his studio experience and exposure to so many musicians and so much indigenous music not only gives him the tools to become one of the most important practitioners of this music, it allows him to create a wholly personal style steeped in the Malgache tradition. Solo (pronounced 'Sool') was 22 when, in 1978, he chose to settle in France where he has since had a double career as a musician and producer.
A sub-unit of the Départment du Renseignement et de la Sécurité (DRS), it is responsible for counter-terrorism. It is based in Algiers and has a base at Blida, 50 km (31 miles) from Algiers. The Grouping of special intervention (GIS) made trainings very elaborate with several training courses in various domains (assault, sniping, aircraft, squadbomb) to the Officers' training school of the special troops ( EATS) in Algeria, without forgetting the training in the highly rated of the groups Alpha of Russia. The men of the GIS are introduced to the Ju-Jitsu art of Japanese fight and to the Kuk Sool Won art of Korean fight, but in a purely military aspect.
Somaliland forces took control of the town of Las Qorey in eastern Sanaag on 10 July 2008, along with positions east of the town. The defence forces completed their operations on 9 July 2008 after the Maakhir and Puntland militia in the area left their positions, but control of the territory was later assumed by Puntland as Maakhir was incorporated into the autonomous region in January 2009. In the late 2000s, HBM-SSC (Hoggaanka Badbaadada iyo Mideynta SSC), a local unionist group based in Sanaag was formed with the goal to establish its own regional administration (Sool, Sanaag and Cayn, or SSC). This later evolved into Khatumo State, which was established in 2012.
In March 2017, 1.75 million people received international food assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).The preceding text is in the public domain in the United States because it is a work prepared by an officer or employee of the United States Government as part of that person’s official duties under the terms of Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 105 of the US Code. An estimated 1.1 million IDPs currently live in Somalia, and at least 548,000 additional people have been displaced since November 2016 due to the drought. Most people displaced by drought left rural parts of Bay, Lower Shabelle, and Sool and settled in urban areas such as Mogadishu and Baidoa.
Choi's first student and the first person known to have opened up a dojang under Choi was Seo Bok-Seob (서복섭, also spelled Suh Bok-Sup). In 1948, when Seo Bok-sub was still in his early 20s, he had already earned his black belt in judo and was a graduate of Korea University. After watching Choi Yong-Sool successfully defend himself against a group of men when an argument erupted in the yard of the Seo Brewery Company, Seo who was son of the chairman of the company, invited Choi to begin teaching martial arts to him and some workers at the distillery where he had prepared a dojang. In 1951, Seo opened up the first proper dojang called the "Daehan Hapki Yukwonsool Dojang (대한합기유권술도장)".
Choi's practices were later renamed to Hapkido [合氣道] and students of Choi Yong Sul, such as Ji Han Jae, the late Myung Kwang-sik, the late Han Bong-soo and others helped to spread this art both inside and outside Korea. Since the hanja are identical to those of Aikido, Japanese Aikido and Korean Hapkido are often confused and stylistic similarities do cause these separate arts to approximate each other in some ways. In like manner, some variants of Hapkido such as Kuk Sool Won, Hwa Rang Do and Hankido have adopted a range of Chinese practices and execution. Along with Taekwondo, Hapkido has helped to establish modern Korean martial arts by providing systemization and incorporating into other styles.
Born in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea in 1936, he began his martial arts training in 1949 under the direction of Choi Yong-Sool () and reached the rank of 14th dan under Choi. Ji trained with Choi until 1956, when he moved to Seoul to open a school of self-defense in the nation's capital. Ji trained in the ancient methods of the Korean martial arts, known as Sam Rang Do Tek Gi by a man named Taoist Lee. Though this man's identity can not be confirmed, he is believed to have he trained Ji in meditation, the Korean long staff jangbong (장봉; 長棒)", short staff danbong (단봉; 短棒)" and the unique kicks of Sam Rang Do Tek Gi.
Master Mike Wollmershauser, who was the only American to have trained under Choi Yong-sool himself, documented part of this historic visit on videotape, which is in the hands of Doju Chinil Chang. Doju Choi's final wishes were to spread Hap Ki Do all over the world as well as to unite the art as one family, although Doju Choi had realized at that point that the system had splintered into too many political and warring factions for that to ever happen. He also wished to keep his original system intact and for the lineage to be passed in a complete manner to his successor, which he accomplished. Master Wollmershauser attempted to spread this word of unity throughout the world until his death in December 2002.
Surrounding all this contention, it is probably helpful to know a little about the origins of the Kuk Sool system. Sometime in the late 1950's to early 1960's, a movement in South Korea to help organize all the martial art systems that were not directly connected to Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, Kong Soo Do, and other related arts, was underway since martial arts are heavily regulated in the Republic of Korea. The R.O.K. government had chosen to back Taekwondo as its "official sport" (primarily for the Olympics) but also had invested in a worldwide campaign to promote it outside of Korea. Meanwhile the aforementioned martial art systems which differed significantly from Taekwondo were seeking similar governmental approval to help benefit their businesses.
Therefore, except for claims made by Choi himself, there is little evidence that Choi was the adopted son of Takeda, or that he ever formally studied Daitō-ryū under the founder of the art. Retouched photograph of the master of Daito Ryu Aiki-jujutsu Takeda Sōkaku (circa 1888) Stanley Pranin, then of Aiki News and now editor of the Aikidojournal.com, asked Kisshomaru Ueshiba about Choi Yong-Sool and hapkido: Some argue that Choi Yong-Sool's potential omission from the records, and the ensuing debate over hapkido's origins, may be due to tensions between Koreans and Japanese, partly as a result of the Japanese occupation of Korea. At the height of dispute, it is claimed by hapkido practitioners that Koreans were excluded from listing, though this is contradicted by Takeda's records which contain other Korean names.
The elections were originally scheduled for 31 August 2008,Electoral Calendar- world elections,US elections, presidential election, world parties but the instability in the eastern Sanaag and Sool regions led the Guurti to extend the incumbent's term for a year in early April 2008, setting the election for 15 March 2009. This was heavily criticised by the opposition—in the end, a compromise led to the date of 6 April 2009, which was later changed to one week before that (29 March). On 3 March, it was announced that the elections were postponed by two more months, to be held on 31 May. On 6 September 2009, the electoral commission announced that the election could not be held on the day planned, 27 September, due to "current political, economic and technical conditions".
Those who pass this week of selection will continue for 5 weeks at the DSI where they will be trained in climbing, combat techniques (ju-jitsu, kuk-sool-won...), and the use of weapons. ), shooting, weapons handling, confidence shooting with live ammunition, approach techniques, physical and armed confrontation, special vehicle piloting, control and identification of suspect individuals and vehicles, hostage release techniques, urban and forest combat, assault techniques in closed and open environments etc. If the gendarme passes all these tests during a final rally, he will be awarded the SSI pin and his diploma and will be incorporated into one of the 120 SSI. However, once he has arrived in his section, he will be trained again within his section on certain specialities that his section may have before being fully operational.
Kyle eventually copies Hal's power ring and gives it to Alan Scott's daughter, Jennifer-Lynn Hayden, allowing her to follow in her father's footsteps as the first female Green Lantern of Earth. Green Lantern vol. 3 #107 In Green Lantern: The New Corps, during a weeks-long adventure in space, Rayner attempts to rebuild the Green Lantern Corps, recruiting Magaan Van'n Intraktus of the planet Van'n, Hammeroon, (a bounty hunter from Ilskado System), Anya Savenlovich, (a lieutenant colonel from Soviet Union Air Force who was in suspended animation after participating in a space mission in 1964), Garl Rathbone, (a miner from the debris belt over the planet Daffith), and Sool, (a judge, also from Daffith.) However, the group later discovered Van'n Intraktus was a traitor. Van'n had used his ring to enslave his home planet and planned to invade and conquer other worlds.
Though reports of double voting and ballot stuffing were present and there were problems due to an undereducated and mostly illiterate voting population, international observers from Denmark, Sweden, Kenya, South Africa and Britain confirmed that the elections were well conducted and successful, noting the high turnout of female voters and the organization of the electoral officials. The United Peoples' Democratic Party (UDUB) gained 40.8% of the overall vote in the district elections, followed by The Peace Unity and Development Party (Kulmiye) which gained 18.9%, and The Justice and Welfare Party (UCID) which gained 11.2%. Members elected outside of these political parties were forced to change political affiliation. Sool (where many polling stations closed for security concerns) was the only one of the six regions in Somaliland where UDUB did not win a plurality of the vote.

He ended up going to UFC 8 with less than a month's experience in the art.

His first student was Hwang Deok-Kyoo (; founder of the Korean Hapkido Association) followed shortly after by Myung Kwang-Sik (; founder of the World Hapkido Federation), Lee Tae-Jun, Kang Jeong-soo. In 1958, students Kim Yong-Jin (), Jeong Won-Seon (; Retired 2007-taught in Rockford, Illinois) Han Bong-soo (of Billy Jack movie fame and founder of the International Hapkido Federation), Choi Sea-Oh (First man to teach hapkido in the U.S.) and Myung Jae-Nam (; Founder of the Korea-based International Hapkido Federation and Hankido). Around this time, Ji began to use the name hapkido to promote the art, shortened from the original hapki yukwonsul (; 合氣柔拳術) name employed at the first school run by Choi Yong-Sool and Seo Bok-Seob in Daegu in 1951. In 1961, Kim Moo-Hong came to visit Ji and they developed many of the kicking techniques the art is known for.

In October 2010, Garowe Online reported that Atom was hiding out in Somaliland after being pursued by the neighboring Puntland region's authorities for his role in targeted assassination attempts against Puntland officials as well as bomb plots. Several of Atom's followers were also reportedly receiving medical attention in the region, after having been wounded in a counter-terrorism raid in the Galgala hills by Puntland security personnel. According to Puntland government documents, the Somaliland region's Riyale government in 2006 both financed and offered military assistance to Atom's men as part of a campaign to destabilize the autonomous territory via proxy agents and to distract attention away from the Somaliland government's own attempts at occupying the disputed Sool province.
