In response to the market, the Soviet Union decreased its exports to its East European partners and increased its purchases of soft goods from these countries. This policy forced the East European countries to turn to the West for hard goods, despite the fact that they had fewer goods to export in return for hard currency. Any hard goods supplied to Eastern Europe by the Soviet Union were sold essentially at a discount price, as Comecon prices lagged behind, and were lower than those of the world market. Developments in the 1980s made this situation even more complex.

Established in 1986, Home Accents Today national issue publishes monthly in print and digital formats. The magazine also publishes daily issues at the semiannual High Point, Las Vegas and Atlanta home furnishings markets. In 1856 Edwards joined the firm of Fell and Seymour, Merchants & Commission Agents, as a clerk and auctioneer and took over the company in 1857 with George Bennett. The new firm became Edwards & Co, a mercantile, importing, and shipping company. One branch of the firm was involved in shipping. In 1864 N. Edwards & Co purchased the site of the earthquake-damaged Wesleyan Church on the corner of Bridge and Rutherford Streets and built a large two-storeyed building designed by architect William Beatson which contained offices and a bulk store on the ground floor and drapery, soft goods and ironmongery departments on the upper floor.

In 1985, Mattel and Filmation decided to diversify the Masters of the Universe line beyond its traditional realm of "male action" in the hopes of bringing in a young female audience as well. To accompany the Filmation animated series, Mattel created a new line of toys aimed at girls - Princess of Power - with the feminine warrior-woman She-Ra as its main heroine. The toyline featured almost exclusively female characters, all of whom featured an emphasis on hair and clothing, with "real" hair and partially soft-goods costumes. Essentially, the line attempted to fuse the appeal of Masters of the Universe with Mattel's most long-standing success, Barbie.

Thomas Barclay was born on 21 November 1849 in Glasgow, the youngest brother of six (he also had one sister). His father was a devout merchant who sold soft goods and fabrics, and claimed French Huguenot ancestry for the family. The younger Barclay was an able student, and matriculated at Glasgow University a few weeks before his 15th birthday (his young age not being unusual in those days). While there he excelled at mathematics and science, studying under Sir William Thomson (later Lord Kelvin) and earning a mention in the Encyclopædia Britannica for his authorship of a scientific treatise on "the Specific Inductive Capacity of Dielectrics".

The term "coffin furniture" refers to a wide range of products from handles, crucifixes, nameplates and ornaments to 'soft goods' such as shrouds, funerary gowns, coffin linings and cushions. The factory's warehouse as it would have appeared in the 1960s. Edwin ceased to be involved in the business from 1895, leaving Alfred as the business’ sole trader until his death in 1933. He was succeeded by his two sons, George and Horace, who ran the company until their deaths in 1944 and 1952 respectively. Horace's death marked the end of the Newman family's direct management of the factory, though his sister Nina continued to own shares in the factory until 1980.

He then moved to Wellington, and in 1896 began work as a draper's assistant at James Smith and Sons. He married Emily Clark on 17 December 1902; they were to have ten daughters and three sons. The family lived in Newtown, where between 1902 and 1911 Croskery ran his own drapery and tailoring business in Riddiford Street, then about 1917 moved to Lyall Bay. Croskery helped to found the Wellington Retail Soft-goods Employees' Union in February, 1912, and served as its secretary. He also served as Secretary of the Wellington Butchers' Union, Secretary of the NZ Shop Assistants' Federation, and the Wellington Plumbers' and Gasfitters' Union, from their foundation until his death in 1952.

In 1961, fifteen independent suppliers of soft goods to Sears, Roebuck and Co. merged to form Kellwood Company. The largest of them being Ahoskie Manufacturing Co. owned and operated by George B. Smolen, a company once known as Smolen Manufacturing run by his father, Jacob Smolen. With its formation, the new company had 22 plants in 10 states and 7,000 employees. The original product lines included a wide variety of apparel, camping equipment and bedding. Taking its name from two former Sears’ executives, Charles H. Kellstadt and Robert E. Wood, The first officers included Maurice Perlstein, president and treasurer; Fred W. Wenzel, vice president; Stanley M. Guthunz, vice president; Ovide de St. Aubin, Jr., vice president; and Howard Michaelson, Jr., secretary.

Carnell was married and worked as a soft goods salesman. He enlisted as a private in the Second Australian Imperial Force on 28 March 1940, and was posted to the 2/12th Infantry Battalion on 27 April. Whilst serving with the battalion in November 1940, Carnell was subject to a general court martial for being found outside his barracks without a leave pass, "disobeying a lawful command given by his superior officer", and "offering violence to his superior officer", for which he was found guilty on all counts and given detention for thirty days. He and his battalion participated in the North African campaign, and Carnell served during the Siege of Tobruk in 1941, during which he was promoted to lance corporal.

He also was instrumental in developing a line of branded merchandise for WWE's XFL Arena Football League and assisted in their initial network broadcast rollout. In 2004, Paidas founded Paidas Management, an intellectual property licensing management company, and worked with the Discovery/TLC reality-series Orange County Choppers as a licensing agent and built the brand into a retail licensing juggernaut with $400M millions dollars of product sold worldwide through a group of over seventy licensees to mid- tier, specialty, and mass retail channels of distribution. In 2006, Paidas added two more Discovery Channel hit shows to his roster: Boyd Coddington's American Hotrod and Dog the Bounty Hunter. He successfully secured leading licensees for soft goods / apparel, footwear, accessories, toys, collectibles, and tools resulting in $100M million dollars of product sold worldwide.
