Dubai Snowdome is a proposed indoor ski resort located in Dubailand. The project is financed and developed by 32Group. The snowdome is a AED 3.7 billion (US$1 billion) development which will cover an area of and was expected to be completed by late 2008. The opening date was delayed due to construction being currently halted as a part of the Dubailand project, which itself is now on hold by the government of Dubai.

The ski resort will stand at a height of and in diameter and will feature a ski dome, residential towers, hotels, a shopping mall, restaurants, coffee shops and retail outlets. The snowdome will be surrounded by eleven towers, nine being residential, and two being crystal decoration. The snowdome will also contained a rotating ski deck, a training area, ice rink for recreational skiing, toboggan area, and a snow play area for children.

SnowDome submitted revised proposals, and a Section 106 agreement was signed off by the developers, Wycombe District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council. The revised development still has to be approved by the Planning Inspectorate and conform with planning conditions - the outcome of which was expected within a month. As of January 2012, Snowdome Ltd. appears to have abandoned its plans to re-develop the site as an indoor & outdoor ski slope and has put the land up for sale.

The Adelaide Avalanche were a semi-professional ice hockey team based in Thebarton, Adelaide, South Australia that competed in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL). The Avalanche was founded in 2000 as one of three inaugural members of the AIHL and played home matches at Snowdome Adelaide (now known as IceArenA). The Avalanche won multiple premiership titles and two AIHL Championships before the franchise experienced financial difficulties in 2008 and collapsed resulting in their AIHL licence being taken over by a new franchise run by Snowdome Adelaide called Adelaide A's (later to be renamed Adelaide Adrenaline).

However, on 20 May 2009, SnowDome Group announced that legal problems had been encountered with the planning permission, and as such construction would be delayed. The slope and surrounding area have become more increasingly dilapidated. From a recent survey of the existing site, all debris of the burnt lodge have been removed, the chair-lifts appear to have been partially dismantled, and the dry slope, grounds and car park are overgrown and in a very poor state of repair. On 16 March 2010, the future of the SnowDome project became more hopeful after a public informal planning enquiry was conducted at Wycombe District Council offices.

Katie Ormerod started snowboarding aged 5, when she went to Halifax Ski & Snowboard Centre with her family, who were all keen snowboarders. Speaking of her early years snowboarding, Ormerod noted "I kept snowboarding there every week, and then started going to the local snowdome. The whole time, I was balancing snowboarding with gymnastics as well, which really helped.".

There is a large playing field, football pitch and small play area at the end of Smith Street. As of c.2009, a lottery funded 'North Warwickshire Forest of Arden' walking trail was established with the route including a north-eastern part of Wood End (through its fields). The nearest leisure facilities are in Kingsbury, and the Snowdome in Tamworth.

1981 - The centre first opened in 1981 as the Ice Arena with a full size skating rink surrounded by a speed skating track. 1987 - In late 1987, the centre closed for the construction of the world's first indoor ski slope and reopened in 1988 as Mt Thebarton Snow and Ice, featuring what was reported to be the world's first indoor ski slope on artificial snow. To accommodate the new structure supporting the ski-slope and to make room for the bottom of the slope, the concentric skating rink concept was abandoned and replaced by two ice skating rinks (one large 56×26m rink and one smaller 30×15m surface). The centre underwent a further name change to Snowdome Adelaide.
