Malavika is now a Deputy Commissioner in the police force, and has a daughter (Malavika again) while Raj has become the Chief Secretary. Malavika wants to get to know Raj's family well and during her visit along with her daughter to Raj's house happens to see certain very disturbing and then highly confusing sights. She smells a rat and says so to Raj who blames all the bad occurrences on a ghost that supposedly haunts a bungalow that they lived in and how that ghost still continued to haunt that place terrifying people in its vicinity at very particular times every day. Being a police officer, Malavika is not fully convinced and wants to get to the bottom of the matter.

The soundtrack of Moonraker was composed by John Barry and recorded in Paris, again, as with production, marking a turning point away from the prior studio, CTS Studios in London. The score also marked a turning point in John Barry's output, abandoning the Kentonesque brass of his earlier Bond scores in favor of slow, rich string passages – a trend which Barry would continue in the 1980s with scores such as Out of Africa and Somewhere in Time. For Moonraker, for the first time since Diamonds Are Forever (1971), Barry used a piece of music called "007" (on track 7), and "Bond smells a rat", the secondary Bond theme composed by Barry and introduced in From Russia with Love during Bond's escape with the Lektor; some classical music pieces were also included in the film.

Anna seemingly complies with Phelan's ultimatum, but later attempts to extract a confession from him after hearing the news that he repaid all the "Calcutta Street" victims. She invites Phelan over to her house for a drink under the guise of putting their differences aside; however, he smells a rat when she questions his motives of framing her and cunningly denies his involvement behind Seb's accident — leading a furious Anna to throw him out after her plan has failed. Unable to blackmail Anna in bringing Nicola back to Weatherfield, Phelan visits Seb that night and proceeds to manipulate him into believing that she pushed him off the ladder; Anna is subsequently arrested once more, and she ends up being remanded in custody until her trial starts at January 2018. In December 2017, Phelan hires a private investigator to track down his daughter in Manchester and proceeds to have Gary visit Nicola in an attempt to convince her to return to Weatherfield — threatening to expose their one-night stand to Sarah otherwise.
