Tandem skydiving requires equipment with several differences from normal sport skydiving rigs. All modern tandem skydiving systems use a drogue parachute, which is deployed shortly after leaving the plane in order to decrease the skydivers' terminal velocity. This is necessary for proper parachute deployment, lengthening the duration of the skydive, and allowing the skydivers to fall at the same speed as videographers. Tandem skydiving systems also use larger main parachutes (360 square feet and larger) to support the additional weight of two passengers.

Drop zone in Skydive Empuriabrava, Catalonia, Spain Drop zone in Pepperell, MA (USA) seen from the air A drop zone (DZ) is a place where parachutists or parachuted supplies land. It can be an area targeted for landing by paratroopers, or a base from which recreational parachutists and skydivers take off in aircraft and land under parachutes. In the latter case, it is often beside a small airport, frequently sharing the facility with other general aviation. At recreational drop zones, an area is generally set side for parachute landings.

Versions for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are planned for when they launch in late 2020. The concept of the game is similar to previous games of the genre: 100 players skydive onto an island and scavenge for gear to defend themselves from other players. Players can fight alone (Solo), with one additional player (Duos), or with a group of up to three others (Squads). As the match progresses, the playable area within the island gradually constricts, giving the players less and less room to work with.
All teams are then placed on an aircraft that passes over the game map. One player in each squad is the jumpmaster, selecting when the squad should skydive out of the aircraft and where to land with the concurrence of the other squad members. However, players are free to deviate from the squad's path. Once on the ground, the squad can scavenge for weapons, armor, and other equipment that is scattered around buildings, or in crates randomly distributed around the map, while keeping an eye out for other squads.
Avalon later recalled, "'That's the picture of mine that I think people remember best, and it was just a lot of kids having a lot of fun -- a picture about young romance and about the opposition of adults and old people... It was also fun because we got to learn how to fake skydive out of an airplane." Avalon appeared in nearly two dozen TV episodes, including ABC's The Bing Crosby Show and The Patty Duke Show, appearing often as himself. Later, he became a national television spokesperson for Sonic Drive-In.

The BBC World News documentary Chasing the Jet Stream covers the free fall jump into the jet stream in three parts, which aired on 2, 8 and 15 December 2018. The documentary highlights both Marc Hauser’s goal to raise awareness for cleantech-pioneering enterprises using airborne wind energy systems, as well as the execution of the preparations that eventually lead to the free fall jump into the jet stream. In 2019, the Guinness World Records honored the parachute jump as the world's first skydive into the jet stream.
There have however been multiple recorded instances of skydivers jumping without being attached to a parachute. However these jumps lack the element that make them a banzai skydive, where a parachute is thrown out of the plane then caught by the jumper after some delay. During skydives where the jumper is detached from the skydiving rig the rig is held by the skydiver or an assistant until the skydiver is secured to the rig. This is due to the skydiving rig having a much slower terminal velocity than a skydiver is capable of achieving.
The mainstay aircraft were a number of Cessna 172s and 182s which were initially step exit, moving to the more dignified seat exit. The student needs only minimal instruction before making a tandem jump with the instructor. In the United States most skydiving centers and clubs require that you be 18 years or older to skydive whereas in other countries the minimum age can be lower or higher. This is one of three commonly used training methods for beginning skydivers; the others being Static line, Instructor-assisted deployment (IAD), and Accelerated freefall (AFF) (k). Tandem skydiving is a very popular training method for first time skydivers, but it is more expensive than a static line.
The Federal Aviation Administration location identifier (FAA LID) is a three- to five- character alphanumeric code identifying aviation related facilities inside the United States, though some codes are reserved for, and are managed by other entities. For nearly all major airports, the assigned identifiers are alphabetic three-letter codes, such as ORD for Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Minor airfields are typically assigned a mix of alphanumeric characters, such as 8N2 for Skydive Chicago Airport and 0B5 for Turners Falls Airport. Private airfields are assigned a four-character identifier, such as 1CA9 for Los Angeles County Fire Department Heliport.

Altitude Express, Inc. v. Zarda, 590 U.S. ___ (2020), was a landmark United States Supreme Court civil rights case which ruled that under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 employees could not be discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. The case involved Donald Zarda, a skydiving instructor for Altitude Express who had told a female customer of his gay identity to make her more comfortable being attached to him during a skydive. She and her boyfriend later expressed their objections to Altitude, leading to Zarda's dismissal on the claim of misconduct.

USPA member drop zones in the US and Canada are required to have an experienced jumper act as a "safety officer" (in Canada DSO – Drop Zone Safety Officer; in the U.S. S&TA; – Safety and Training Advisor) who is responsible for dealing with jumpers who violate rules, regulations, or otherwise act in a fashion deemed unsafe by the appointed individual. In many countries, either the local regulations or the liability-conscious prudence of the drop zone owners require that parachutists must have attained the age of majority before engaging in the sport. The first skydive performed without a parachute was by stuntman Gary Connery on 23 May 2012 at 732 m.
A cross-country jump is a skydive where the participants open their parachutes immediately after jumping, with the intention of covering as much ground under canopy as possible. Usual distance from jump run to the drop zone can be as much as several miles. A Technoavia SM92 Finist of Target Skysports lifts skydivers to the jump altitude at Hibaldstow, England There are two variations of a cross- country jump: The more popular one is to plan the exit point upwind of the drop zone. A map and information about the wind direction and velocity at different altitudes are used to determine the exit point.
Bryden was born in New York Hospital and grew up in an artist loft on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn Heights. Her parents divorced when she was five, and she lived primarily with her father, Lewis Bryden, a painter and sculptor, until she was 12 years old. Bryden then moved in with her mother, Jane, a classical soprano and professor at Smith College in Western Massachusetts. Bryden graduated from Amherst Regional High School, and deferred going to college for a year to skydive on a drop zone in Arizona, study Italian and opera in Manhattan and eventually travel to Australia for three months of backpacking, where she bought her first guitar.
At that time there were 64 aircraft based at this airport: 66% single-engine, 13% multi-engine, 19% ultralight , 3% helicopter and 43% glider There is extensive glider activity due to the presence of Miami Gliders, a glider flight school, operating out of runway 9 turf. Homestead is also the home of south Florida's oldest and best known skydiving center, Skydive Miami. Extensive student training and lack of a tower and organization makes this airport a challenging one to fly in and out of. Near miss encounters happen regularly, and a lack of knowledge of standard procedures for non-towered airports plague the area.
On 14 July 2019, a GA8 Airvan of Skydive Umeå crashed on the nearby island of Storsandskär, killing all nine people on board. Structural failure of a wing is suspected as a cause. The GA8 Airvan was grounded by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) in Australia, Civil Aviation Authority in New Zealand, and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in the European Union. The grounding order was issued on 20 July and was due to run until 3 August, but was lifted early as CASA found there is no evidence for an unsafe condition, and the EASA said the wrecked aircraft had been exposed to aerodynamic loads beyond certification.
The accident occurred on October 9, 2005 during Richardson's 1st solo AFF skydive in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. While it is widely reported in the mainstream media that the accident was the result of equipment malfunction, many in the skydiving community insist that the problem was actually with Richardson's inexperience and the quality of instruction she received from her Instructor, and boyfriend, Rick West. Shayna and Rick were jumping as guests in Siloam after failing to tell the Siloam dropzone operator that Shayna had been banned from jumping at her home dropzone due to the conflict of interest arising from her relationship with her Instructor.

In 1996, before the base could be turned over the Town of Riverhead, the base was used to reassemble the wreckage of TWA Flight 800 which had crashed about south in the ocean. In 2000, Skydive Long Island (formerly located at East Moriches) moved to the airport, and to this day continues to generate the majority of the current air traffic as a key destination for New York-based skydivers. Through 2007, debates raged about whether or not to turn the base into a mega complex around a NASCAR track, called EPCAL Centre, or a giant ski resort based construction of an artificial high indoor ski mountain.

In 2013, Bush hosted a Prizeo campaign to raise funds for one of her favorite causes, I Am that Girl. As part of the campaign, Bush offered donors a grand prize of the opportunity to skydive with her.
The constant flow of skydivers and accompanying parties and seasonal continuity has established a regularity that has earned Skydive Empuriabrava the "Espiga i Timó" Award of the Council of Castelló d'Empúries, the 22nd Tourism Night Award from the Girona School of Tourism, and the Association of Tourist Apartments "Sun of the Costa Brava" Award. In 2003, the Generalitat of Catalonia used the occasion of the millionth jump to award Castelló d'Empúries the status of Sports Tourism Destination (DTE) for skydiving, in acknowledgement of the facilities. In 2010, the Generalitat of Catalonia recognised its outstanding contribution to tourism in Catalonia by awarding it the Tourism Diploma of Catalonia.
Toivo Teräsvuori (Häyrinen) is a young radio journalist who's looking for new, interesting topics on which to report. After covering a skydive on a live broadcast, he gets the idea to stage a fake burglary for his next daring stunt. He shares this idea with his friend and fellow radio employee Laakso, whom he persuades to go along with the plan without notifying either their superiors in the radio station, nor the police. Unfortunately, Teräsvuori and Lahti happen to discuss the details for their fake crime, a burglary into the Helsinki Art Museum, in a cafe within earshot of some actual burglars, who plan their own heist to coincide with Teräsvuori's.
Walton was an adventurous traveler. He also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 1989, sky dived at the North Pole in 2004, bungee jumped off the Bloukrans Bridge near Cape Town, South Africa in 2009, HALO jumped from 29,600 feet, and was a member of the first team of people to skydive over Mount Everest. Walton also continued to fly small planes, drawing on the training he gained in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was one of the first 100 people to pay for a trip into space through Virgin Galactic in 2004; after years of delays in getting the project off the ground, Walton was forced to ask for a refund in 2011, citing his advanced age.

In 2011 The Ranch SkyDiving Boogie and Symposium ran from 9 to 12 August. Coinciding with National Women's Day, Miss Limpopo Kholofelo Madiba, was trained to skydive at the event and completed 5 Accelerated Freefall skydives. The event received representation from 21 different sport skydiving operations and military parachuting units from across Southern Africa. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) saw The Ranch SkyDiving Boogie and Symposium as an ideal opportunity to enhance cooperation and learning opportunities, promoting military interest in sport skydiving and the inter-operability with the Parachute Association of South Africa (PASA), whilst learning and sharing ideas by participating at events and with skydiving clubs outside of the military.
Freeflying is an expansion of skydiving which includes the traditional belly-to-earth positions, but extends into vertical flight where the flyer is in an upright position (falling feet first) or in an inverted position (falling head first). These positions increase freefall speeds and make new types of formations and routines possible. A freeflyer, in order to fully understand the aerodynamic power of his/her body in freefall, needs to first learn to control all of the skydiving forms: box position (belly-to-earth, traditional skydiving position), back flying (back-to-earth), head-up flying, head-down flying, and side flying. These positions are not held for the duration of a skydive.
Most countries have varying laws or regulations regarding who may skydive with a passenger or student. In the United States, the FAA requires that every potential instructor have at least 3 years of experience skydiving, 500 skydives, and a master parachute license issued by an FAA-recognized organization (for the United States Parachute Association, this is equivalent to a D license). Per USPA rules, instructors are also required to pass a certification course given by the manufacturer of the tandem parachute system to be jumped. The USPA also requires potential instructors to possess a current FAA Class III Medical Certificate, and complete a USPA Tandem Instructor Rating Course, although neither are required from the FAA directly.
The Space Games came about as a result of the Atmosphere Dolphin FreeFly License Program ran through Olav ZIpser's First School of Modern SkyFlying. Zipser used a constant speed and direction measuring device (space balls) around which high speed precision freefly athletes could train and be tested to fly to the same standard. This provided the testing ground for the research and development of freeflying, and opened up the possibility for a number of human flight air games and competitions.DropZone.com article, retrieved 10 Sep 2012 Space Games 1999 Article, retrieved 10 Sep 2012 Olav Zipser Space Games, retrieved 10 Sep 2012 The 1st Space Games was held at Skydive America Palm Beach, Pahokee, Florida in 1997.

All nine full-time teams from 2012 continued into the 2013 season, although Team Sweden revisited a title sponsorship agreement with the country of Azerbaijan which saw the outfit rebranded to Team Azerbaijan, a partnership last formed back in 2010. None of the part-time teams that participated in 2012 were present for the opening round in Brazil, however there was speculation that Dragon Racing would at some point rejoin the series, as would Jay Price, the 2008 champion who drove for the other part-time team in 2012, Skydive Dubai. Neither of these teams ultimately entered the championship however. Caudwell Racing were forced to miss the first race of the year in Brazil due to their new boats not being ready in time.

A 10-month search for a murderer with a motive ensued, including nationwide mail-outs to all BPA members, a Crimewatch programme, and a full-page advertisement in the BPA magazine, Skydive Blair and Mason were arrested in October 2003 and later released without charge, while a third man, who remained unnamed, was also arrested and subsequently released without charge. Laboratory tests of the parachute straps revealed that fibres from the severed risers were present on Hilder's body, while DNA tests on the parachute straps revealed the presence of Hilder's DNA alone. The police concluded that Hilder had cut his own straps. This caused bafflement for both the police and Hilder's family and friends, who had seen no indication that Hilder was intending to commit suicide.
This jump also stirred controversy among BASE jumpers who pointed out that Baumgartner cited the height of the statue as the height of the jump even though he landed on a slope below the statue's feet, and that other BASE jumpers had previously jumped from the statue but avoided publicity.Abrams, p. 249. Zac Adams, a graduate of Franklin High School and Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, first conceived of Nashville Rises after his company Skydive Films produced public service announcements for the American Red Cross and the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in the wake of the 2010 Tennessee floods. Citing the wider world's ignorance and negligence of the event, Adams wanted to spread the message of the floods, their repercussions, and Tennesseans' response to a wider audience. Mirroring the volunteerism the film witnessed, the project itself was a non-profit venture; time, labor, equipment, media, expertise, and talent were freely donated to the project. Adams produced the film alongside filmmaker Camron Carrier, as well as American musician and Franklin resident Mark Slaughter.
In 2018, Pepsi similarly backed the comedy film Uncle Drew—a feature comedy adapted from a character from a Pepsi Max ad campaign.; The energy drink company Red Bull has relied heavily on branded content as part of its marketing strategies. Colonel Joseph William Kittinger II (born July 27, 1928) is a retired officer in the United States Air Force (USAF) and a Command Pilot. His initial operational assignment was in fighter aircraft, then he participated in Project Manhigh and Project Excelsior high altitude balloon flight projects from 1956 to 1960, setting a world record for the highest skydive from a height greater than . He was also the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon, and the first man to fully witness the curvature of the earth. Kittinger served as a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, and he achieved an aerial kill of a North Vietnamese MiG-21 jet fighter and was later shot down himself, spending 11 months as a prisoner of war in a North Vietnamese prison.
Therefore, when a skydiver exits a forward-moving aircraft such as an aeroplane, the relative wind emanates from the direction the aeroplane is facing due to the skydiver's initial forward ( horizontal ) momentum. As aerodynamic drag gradually overcomes this forward momentum and, simultaneously, gravity attracts the skydiver downward, the relative wind alters proportionally into an upward (vertical) direction. This creates an arc of travel for the skydiver similar to water flowing from a low pressure hose held horizontally and creates a variation in the angle of the relative wind from horizontal to vertical. When exiting from a forward-moving aircraft (as distinguished from a hovering aircraft, such as a balloon or a helicopter in hover mode) during a normal belly-to-earth skydive, the skydiver must arch his body in the direction of travel which is initially horizontal.
But, in 1995, the band brought in Brian Garcia as Producer/Manager and essentially a fifth member. They recorded a 7-song CD called “Vim Fuego” under the name Shed only to be coaxed back to the name Toy Subs by the folks at The Buzz radio station in Houston due to the popularity of the name. Vim Fuego was repackaged with 8 songs, and produced three singles that achieved rotation status around Texas. The Buzz Houston broke “Dr. Bre”, and the singles “W.I.D.L.Y.” and “Skydive” also received airplay at stations around Texas. Toy Subs continued to tour extensively, and recorded their follow-up, “Vodka Sonic”, a ten-song CD that garnered airplay around TX as well. The singles receiving airplay were “Bad Rain”, “Apathy 101”, Take It Down”, and “Secret Sneak”, The band had small offers for publishing and record deals throughout the 90's, but turned them down in the hope of garnering a solid recording contract.
Olav Zipser Space Ball and Space Games Skydive Empuriabrava not only holds rallies, seminars and minor competitions, but has also hosted top world sports events.
