In 1983, von Heidecke returned to the world of dance as a choreographer and began staging works for Chicago City Ballet and Rockford Dance Company. In 1989, he commenced his international choreography career with the world premier of Les Sirenes at Scotland's Edinburgh Festival. Colimon's keen observations of the Haitian people's struggle against poverty gave a particularly poignancy to her work, as demonstrated by Fils de Misère. In Les Chants des sirenes, her collection of short stories, she explored the painful impact of the Haitian diaspora on both the individuals in exile and the Haitian community. She was one of the initial members of the Feminine League for Social Action.

Devil and the Deep is a 1932 American pre-Code drama film directed by Marion Gering, based on Maurice Larrouy's novel (Sirenes et Tritons), and starring Tallulah Bankhead, Gary Cooper, Charles Laughton and Cary Grant. It follows a naval commander who has alienated his wife due to his insane jealousy over every man she speaks to. After his obsessive behavior drives her to the arms of a handsome lieutenant, tragic drama ensues.

Mr. Tab – the Sirenes Purser – would prove invaluable at this point. With the help of the local Chaplain, he managed to get a letter through, and soon the brothers were free. Unfortunately, the money and possessions that had been removed from the brothers was nowhere to be found. With a gift enough to get them to New York, the brothers secured a loan from a Mr. Middleton, the Bermuda Agent, to pay for their trip back home (a loan that was promptly repaid).

Barker left University College London after two years to become a full-time singer, signing to Sony Records in 1996 with fellow singer Kate Holmes under the name "Sirenes". They released three singles, "Blind", "Deep End", and "Sun Don't Shine", before splitting up at the end of 1997. Barker co-wrote Zero 7's biggest hit, "Destiny", and sings the song alongside fellow vocalist Sia. Barker also co-wrote and sang on "In The Waiting Line" and "Spinning" from their album Simple Things .

At 17, he published his first poems in a magazine directed by José María López. He was known for the publication of a collection of poems Noviluni (1938) and La ciutat submergida (The submerged city) (1947). He won the 1960 Carles Riba poetry award with Cants terrenals (Earthly Songs) (published in 1962), with cut verses and avant-garde techniques. Contrasted with this book, Joc de sirenes (Sirens game) was published in 1962, where he rehearsed symbolist sonnet tradition and in 1984 Quatre coses (Four Things).

The lead single for the Labyrinthine Heart, "World Gone Crazy", features the vocals of Coury Palermo and was released as a digital download EP on June 30, 2009. It includes the original version as well as several remixed versions and a music video. In December 2009, a new version of the World Gone Crazy EP was released. The track "Skimming Stones", performed with Kirsty Hawkshaw, is a reprised version that was originally released on a compilation album featuring various female vocalists called Sirenes: The Beauty of the Female Voice.

The band were restyled from the fey indie pop band of 1989 into an act more like The Beloved and If?. Singer Tim Freeman released a third album billed as Frazier Chorus (Wide Awake), which did not reach the UK Albums Chart, although it was released years after Ray on a small independent record label, while Kate Holmes moved into electronica via the bands Sirenes, Technique, and Client. Tim Freeman is the brother of actor Martin Freeman. Tim's brother Jamie Freeman was in Frazier Chorus's touring band, but only appeared on their third studio album Wide Awake, contributing guitars on all but one track.
