Lux Aurumque ("Light and Gold", sometimes "Light of Gold") is a choral composition in one movement by Eric Whitacre. It is a Christmas piece based on a Latin poem of the same name, which translates as "Light, warm and heavy as pure gold, and the angels sing softly to the new born babe". In 2000, Whitacre set a short Latin text for mixed choir a cappella. In 2005, he wrote an arrangement for wind ensemble.

The inspiration for the work was a short poem in English, "Light and Gold", by Edward Esch (born 1970), which begins with the word "Light" and ends "angels sing softly to the new-born babe". Charles Anthony Silvestri translated this text into Latin for Whitacre, and attempted to render "the original poem into Latin as singably and as sonically beautifully as I could". The piece was composed in 2000 on a commission from the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay and dedicated to Jo-Michael Scheibe. It was published by Walton Music in 2001.

Sanctus (Holy), in contrast with other compositions of mass and Requiem where it is often illustrated with great vocal and instrumental forces (particularly Verdi's Requiem), is here expressed in extremely simple form. The sopranos sing softly in a very simple rising and falling melody of only three notes, which the male voices repeat, accompanied by arpeggios on the harp and a dreamy rising melody in the violins (sometimes just a solo violin). The pattern appears several times, with the melodies increasing in ambitus, and the volume reaching forte on "" (the highest). The orchestra changes tone, the dreamy accompaniment is replaced by firm and powerful major chords with a horn fanfare marked forte, and the male voices declare "" (praise in the highest).

At Doncaster Racecourse in September, Swiftfoot was moved up in distance for the Group Two Park Hill Stakes and started the 4/6 favourite against four opponents including Sing Softly (Lancashire Oaks) and Tants (Lingfield Oaks Trial). Carson sent the favourite to the front and set a steady pace before increasing the tempo in the straight. Swiftfoot repelled a challenge from Tants, went clear of her opponents in the last furlong and on by one and a half lengths from Sa-Vegas despite being eased down in the final strides. Although there were suggestions that the filly might turn out again in the St Leger over the same course and distance two days later she did not reappear until 9 October when she started second favourite for the Irish St. Leger at the Curragh.

The most famous heroic tenor of his age, Tamagno performed in 26 countries, gaining renown for the power of his singing, especially in the upper register. Tamagno was among the rare species of singers known as a tenore robusto or tenore di forza, and critics likened the sound of his voice to that of a trumpet or even a cannon. Tamagno's vocal range extended up to high C-sharp during his prime, but he was no mere ”belter” of high notes; his recordings provide evidence of his ability, even at career's end, to sing softly when required, modulating the dynamic levels of his voice with skill and sensitivity. Best known as the creator of the protagonist's part in Verdi's Otello at La Scala, Milan in 1887, he also was the first Gabriele Adorno in Verdi's 1881 revision of Simon Boccanegra, a far more lyrical assignment than the "Moor of Venice".

The Brothers rapidly spread throughout Germany, Brabant, Flanders, and other countries.
