Signalised roundabout with the A4175 at Siston Common The A4174 is a major ring road in England which runs around the northern and eastern edge of Bristol, mainly in South Gloucestershire, and through the southern suburbs of the city. When it was first conceived it was planned to circle the whole of Bristol, and is commonly referred to as the "Avon Ring Road", or less accurately the "Bristol Ring Road", on road signs. The road does not circle the whole city, instead covering roughly half of the route. It is broken in part where it is concurrent with the A4.

23 Avenue used extend east from south Edmonton into Strathcona County. It was part of a western segment of Secondary Highway 629 between Edmonton city limits and Highway 14, but it was decommissioned as part of the 1982 general annexation. The intersection with Highway 14 was signalised until it was removed as part of the southeast Anthony Henday Drive construction; part of the project included construction of a flyover over Anthony Henday Drive, presently considered part of 34 Avenue. As part of the Tamarack Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan, 23 Avenue will be realigned east of 17 Street and link with the flyover; which currently ends at Tamarack Boulevard.

Equestrian crossing, London A pegasus crossing (United Kingdom; also equestrian crossing) is a type of signalised pedestrian crossing, with special consideration for horse riders. This type of crossing is named after the mythical winged horse, Pegasus. They are primarily used in the United Kingdom and Peru. page 113 At a minimum, these crossings are in the form of a pelican crossing or puffin crossing but simply have two control panels, one at the normal height for pedestrians or dismounted riders, and one two metres above the ground for the use of mounted riders, and the "green man" (walk) and "red man" (stop) pictograms are replaced with horses.

They also offer anti-vandalism benefits due to not including moving parts which are sometimes jammed on traditional push-button units. Tactile surfacing patterns (or tactile pavings) may be laid flush within the adjacent footways (US: sidewalks), so that visually impaired pedestrians can locate the control box and cone device and know when they have reached the other side. In Britain, different colours of tactile paving indicate different types of crossings; yellow (referred to as buff coloured) is used at non-controlled (no signals) crossings, and red is used at controlled (signalised) locations.

In August 1729, a return match between Stead's Kent XI and Gage's Sussex XI (which included players from Hampshire and Surrey) took place at Penshurst Park. It was reported to have been an 11-a-side match and played for 100 guineas with some thousands watching. It seems to have been the first known innings victory as Sussex "got (within three) in one hand, as the former did in two hands, so the Kentish men threw it up". The report singled out Thomas Waymark, the outstanding player of the time, for special praise: "a groom of the Duke of Richmond signalised himself by extraordinary agility and dexterity".

At Briggs Street the southern suburb boundary changes to the City of Canning's Welshpool with the road now marking the northern limit of the Welshpool industrial area The road then intersects with Leach Highway at a diamond interchange with Leach Highway free-flowing over Orrong Road, after which the northern side also transitions from a residential to an industrial area. The next signalised intersection with Division and Bell Street sees the road fully enter Welshpool. Two more sets of lights are encountered at Pilbara Street and Kewdale Road. After Kewdale Road the road curves to the east and runs parallel with Welshpool Road to the south.

Details of work on the bypass during 2009 In March 2009 a roundabout was completed on the A4071 which will take drivers off it and onto the Relief Road. During construction local school children and interested members of the public were able to have planned visits to the site.Details of one such visit by school children on the Carillion website In July 2009 the bridge that took the Lawford Road over the disused railway was taken down and the Lawford Road was diverted to make way for what became the largest signalised junction in Warwickshire. In November 2009 the southern section from the A4071 to the Lawford Road was waiting to be topped off.

At the West Wallsend interchange the Newcastle Link Road (A15) takes traffic into Newcastle via Wallsend and also connects with the M15 Hunter Expressway towards Kurri Kurri and Singleton, while the freeway continues north to end at the signalised intersection at the junction of Weakleys Drive and John Renshaw Drive, Beresfield. Prior to November 2018, the intersection was a roundabout and conversion and upgrade works was completed in March 2019. From here traffic bound for Highway 1 takes John Renshaw Drive and the New England Highway eastwards to meet the Pacific Highway at Hexham, and Weakleys Drive connects with the New England Highway towards Maitland. Between Wahroonga and Ourimbah the freeway passes through rugged sandstone country, particularly as it descends to and ascends from the Hawkesbury River.

After Joondalup Drive, development starts to become more sparse, and transitions from a suburban to rural landscape. Wanneroo Road travels through predominantly bushland in Neerabup (and along some residential development in Carramar) before reaching a traffic light controlled intersection with Flynn Drive and Neerabup Road 3.5 km (2.2 mi) later. The road continues to travel through Neerabup for 3.1 km (1.9 mi) before reaching a traffic light controlled T-junction with Hester Avenue, which is the northernmost signalised intersection on Wanneroo Road, as well as the northernmost link to both the Mitchell Freeway and fellow arterial road Marmion Avenue. Within that stretch, alongside the road are portions of the original, narrow road that are now access roads for businesses and properties along the route.

The highway then enters an "S" Curve to reorient itself further north while also rising to pass over Tonkin Highway in the form of a cloverstack interchange; with the Tonkin-north to Reid-east and Tonkin-south to Reid-west movements being served by cloverleaf loops. The offset of the highway means that Reid highway passes over the Reid-east to Tonkin-south and Reid-west to Tonkin-north ramps prior to the main Tonkin Highway carriageway itself. The road then passes under a bridge carrying Beechboro Road North after which the eastern terminus of the freeway grade section is reached. This is followed by signalised intersections with Altone Road, Drumpellier Drive (formerly Lord Street)/Daviot Road, West Swan Road and Great Northern Highway.

In the scheme, the redevelopment of a multi-lane signalised crossroads, with a traffic flow of 26,000 vehicles per day, which was completed in March 2012, traffic lanes, signals, road markings, road signs and street clutter were all removed. In the first three years after the redevelopment there was one minor personal injury accident, compared to 4-7 serious incidents in each of the three years leading up to the project. Although no speed limit changes were made, average traffic speeds fell to around 20 mph and there were reductions in vehicle journey times as well as reductions in pedestrian delays at the junction. A pilot road layout project, which includes shared-space elements, is to be trialled in the Stobhill area of Morpeth, Northumberland.

Waymark was initially a groom by trade and was employed as such by his patron, the 2nd Duke of Richmond. There was probably no shortage of capable grooms and it is fair to assume that Richmond employed Waymark because of his outstanding ability with bat and ball, Richmond being the foremost investor in cricket at the time. Richmond's teams were representative of Sussex as a county and the few reports in which Waymark is mentioned make clear that he was the first great all-rounder in the game's history. For example, in the report of Mr Edwin Stead’s XI v Sir William Gage’s XI at Penshurst Park on 28 August 1729, it states that "a groom of the Duke of Richmond signalised himself by extraordinary agility and dexterity".

Beyond that, the road originally followed the alignment of what is now Golf Course Drive and continued to the next creek crossing which is just before the current entrance to the golf club in Golf Course Drive. A more substantial wooden bridge spanned that winter creek which when flowing spilled out from under the bridge on the west side into a relatively deep pool before meandering along into what is now the Wilfred Taylor Reserve. The road then descended gradually to the intersection with Wheatsheaf Road before rising to seamlessly become the then gravel Coxs Hill Road, with the Panalatinga road reserve continuing southwards as an unmade road until the 1970s or 1980s to the top of the steep gully of Emu Creek. Later, there was a roundabout at the intersection with Reynell Road, which has since been upgraded to a signalised intersection.

The South Wales directors saw that building a line as far as Fishguard was futile, and approached the GWR proposing that the 5% guarantee should come into effect on the line reaching Swansea, and not Fishguard. The GWR were not amenable to this extension of their liability and declined. The South Wales Railway company naturally had to consider its position, and a certain alienation from the GWR took place at this time, signalised by the resignation of certain shared directors whose positions were now untenable.

Ipoh–Lumut Highway, Federal Route 5, is a 70.7-km federal highway in Perak, Malaysia, connecting the Perakian capital city of Ipoh in the east to Lumut near Sitiawan in the west. The Ipoh-Lumut Highway consists of a 22.7-km super two highway from Jelapang to Seputeh and a 48-km divided highway from Seputeh to Lumut. This highway is a part of the Federal Route 5 and serves as the final section of the FT5 route. Many maps including Google Maps label this highway as the Ipoh–Lumut Expressway ; however, this is incorrect due to the fact that the Ipoh–Lumut Highway was built as an upgrade of the existing Ipoh–Lumut Road FT5 instead of being a completely new controlled-access expressway route, evidenced by only one grade-separated interchange at Seputeh compared with 34 signalised at-grade intersections along its entire route.

The name has its origins from the Northern Beaches area of Sydney and was derived from the early days of motoring when policemen would be deployed at busy street corners to direct traffic, before traffic signals became widespread. Silent cops were placed in the middle of street intersections at cross roads, and turning drivers were expected to drive around one, keeping it to the right of the vehicle when turning right or left. They were also placed in the centre of the terminating street at T-intersections to force drivers turning in or out of the street to be on the correct side of the road rather than cut the corner. The use of "silent cops" has been phased out in Australia, due to changes in the recommended method of performing turns (the introduction of the diamond turn at signalised intersections), and the hazard they posed to motorcyclists and pedestrians.

Pocock obtained a commission in a regiment of foot in June 1695, and having signalised himself in the wars of Queen Anne, he was promoted to the rank of colonel in the Army in 1707. In 1710 he succeeded Lord Strathnaver in the colonelcy of a regiment of foot, with which he served in Flanders under the Duke of Marlborough, and afterwards under the Duke of Ormonde. At the Peace of Utrecht his regiment was disbanded, but in 1715 he was commissioned to raise a regiment of foot for the service of King George I. After the suppression of the rebellion of the Earl of Mar, this regiment was sent to Ireland, where it was disbanded in 1718. On 2 December 1720 Pocock was appointed to the colonelcy of the 36th Regiment of Foot, from which he was removed on 21 April 1721 to the 8th, or King's Regiment.

The bypass has been effectively slightly downgraded as a result, first with the at-grade, signalised roundabouts of junction T3 interrupting traffic flow, and soon after by the imposition of a 60 mph, SPECS-enforced average speed limit (ostensibly because of a substandard alignment - parts of the southbound carriageway were formed directly from the old A446 - and in order to discourage illegal car and motorcycle racing) on the A453-to-A5 section, making the toll road a slightly faster option even during off-peak hours. Historically, it is not clear which turnpike trust was responsible for the section of road from Birmingham to Lichfield, or even whether it was a turnpike. Also, the A5127 out of Sutton picks up the Roman road route a little north of Mere Green (having itself diverted via Metchley Fort, the modern suburbs of Perry Barr and Kingstanding, then Sutton Park and Four Oaks/Little Aston), and follows it to Lichfield.

The Southern Expressway, heading north, before going under the Young Street Bridge in April 2012 The Southern Expressway opened in two stages in 1997 and 2001 respectively, as a one way freeway which was closed for an hour twice a day, and reversed direction to match peak traffic flow; open northwards (towards city) weekday mornings and weekend afternoons, and open southwards (away from city) weekday afternoons and weekend mornings. Duplication of the expressway began in 2011, with the construction of a second carriageway allowing the expressway to operate in both directions at all hours. The duplication opened on 3 August 2014. The northern terminus of the expressway is at South Road in St Marys where it runs through Bedford Park in an open cutting adjacent to Main South Road on the surface; this section began construction in 2016 (projected completion 2020) and replaced the original northern terminus, a signalised intersection further south, and bypassing five sets of traffic lights on Main South Road.

As Eugene Halton has shown, John Stuart-Glennie’s most significant idea in hindsight was his theory, first published in 1873, of what he termed the moral revolution, delineating the revolutionary changes across different civilizations in the period 2,500 years ago, roughly centered around 600-500 BCE. The moral revolution formed the second stage of his three stage “Ultimate Law of History.” Stuart-Glennie formulated the first systematic theory of the period he described as “the moral revolution” to characterize the historical shift around roughly 600 BCE in a variety of civilizations, most notably ancient China, India, Judaism, and Greece, which would 75 years later be termed “the axial age” (“die Achsenzeit”) by Karl Jaspers in 1949. In his last publication on the moral revolution, published in 1906 in Sociological Papers, Stuart- Glennie reiterated his thesis: “…one great epoch can be signalised—that which I was, I believe, the first, thirty-two years ago ([In the Morningland:] “New Philosophy of History,” 1873), to point out as having occurred in the sixth (or fifth-sixth) century B.C. in all the countries of civilisation from the Hoangho to the Tiber.
