Unfortunately this made the vessel top-heavy, so that when the steamer came around the sharp bend in the river near Prosper, all passengers had to move to the lower cabin to stabilize the boat. The upper deck was added under the direction of Hank Dunham, who also had a more powerful engine installed at the same time. The engine was new, and had been built in Portland, Oregon.
On 9 November 2016, unit 2551 derailed and overturned on a sharp bend approaching Sandilands Junction, before Sandilands tram stop. There were seven fatalities, with 58 other people injured, sixteen of them sustaining serious injuries. Although the speed limit approaching the junction was 20 km/h (12 mph), the tram had been travelling at an estimated speed of 73 kilometres per hour (46 mph). The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) are investigating the type of glass installed in the CR4000 vehicles.
The Rum River makes a sharp turn southward at Cambridge, Minnesota. During the spring floods, the Rum River forces itself through a wetland complex west of Cambridge as the sharp bend constricts the river's floodwaters. In the 1825 First Treaty of Prairie du Chien, the outlet of this natural diversion channel located near Isanti, Minnesota, known as "Choking Creek", became a treaty boundary separating the Dakota from the Ojibwe. In Princeton, Minnesota, the Rum divides between the Main Branch and the West Branch.
Later improvements included the paving of the stretch between Cameron and the gap east of Grand Chenier during the late 1940s. A movable bridge was constructed across the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at Forked Island by 1955, replacing a ferry service at that location. The only alignment change to Route 292 occurred shortly before the 1955 renumbering. The Calcasieu Ship Channel was cut across the route in the mid-1940s in order to bypass a sharp bend in the Calcasieu Pass at Cameron.
Flow through a sudden contraction of the pipe diameter, with flow separation bubbles near cross section 3. In case of a sudden reduction of pipe diameter, without streamlining, the flow is not able to follow the sharp bend into the narrower pipe. As a result, there is flow separation, creating recirculating separation zones at the entrance of the narrower pipe. The main flow is contracted between the separated flow areas, and later on expands again to cover the full pipe area.
NY 90 makes a sharp bend to the southwest, keeping the Water Street until leaving the hamlet of Locke at Maple Avenue. Winding southwest out of Locke, NY 90 parallels Hemlock Creek past a junction with Bird Cemetery Road (CR 51). The route then continues southwest past Goodrich Hill Road (CR 160) and soon bends westward for a short distance. NY 90 at NY 34B in King Ferry Soon turning to the northwest, the route climbs the hills towards the hamlet of Goosetree.
While the eastern end of the bridge levels off at the gravel plain, the western end abuts directly to the rising rock wall of the mountain, presumably for protection against floods. The resulting sharp bend in the course of the road could also be exploited in case of need to block the road. A modern dam, Alakır Barajı, was constructed upstream for irrigation purposes and flood protection. Lycia did not, in contrast to other Roman provinces, possess a very developed road system.
A short distance from Whittendale Road, CR 149 makes a sharp bend to the northeast, intersecting with the northern termini of Stump Pond Road and Meyer Road. Near the intersection with Gilda Lane, CR 149 passes the Sand Pond, and intersects with a series of short local roads. Paralleling the shores of Sand Pond for a short distance, Shandelee Road begins to enter the community of Shandelee. There, the highway intersects with Shandelee Lake Road, a short connector highway in the area.
If the proposed stage 2 of the weir proceeded (increasing the height of the weir by a further 2 metres), the bridge would be permanently underwater. Additionally the existing bridge was old and the geometry of its alignments were not of an acceptable standard for a major highway (there was a sharp bend on the southern side approach). The outcome was to recommend that a new high-level bridge be constructed upstream of the existing bridge. Construction commenced in December 1997.
Located at the lower end of a sharp bend of the Mississippi River, Morganza has been subjected to flooding by the great river a number of times. Levee breaches or "crevasses" occurred at Morganza and Grand Levee just downriver in 1850, 1865, 1867, and 1890. The Morganza Spillway, a major flood diversion project of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is located immediately north of the town. Construction on this mammoth work began in 1939 and was completed in 1955.
The next station was West Fen Drove, this was at the east end of West Fen Drove at the point where the metalled road ends. The third station was Burnt House, this was on the road now known as Burnthouse Sidings which heads east from Burnthouse Farm. After this the line curved slightly to the west and followed what is now a byway to Jones Drove station, near Garton House where the byway makes a sharp bend. After this, the line is difficult to trace.
Lock Wood Island from downstream Lock Wood Island from upstream Lock Wood Island is an island in the River Thames in England just downstream of Nuneham House on the reach above Abingdon Lock. The island sits on a sharp bend in the river. It is densely covered with tall trees and has a narrow channel behind it. In the nineteenth century there was a thatched cottage on the island linked to the bank by a rustic bridge which was a popular place for picknickers.
Over the course of the trip the pilot could ensure his progress by going folded section by section, point by point. The river Loire was a frequent guide. At a point along its course just east of Blois the river takes a sharp bend and two small islands are present. This easily identifiable terrain feature became a primary navigational point for operations deep into France. Upon leaving England a pilot would drop down to 500 feet over the channel to get under German radar.
Tariffville is in the northeast corner of the town of Simsbury, on the inside of a sharp bend in the Farmington River. The northeast and northwest borders of the CDP follow the river, with the northeast part also forming the town line with East Granby. The southeast border of the CDP follows the crest of Talcott Mountain and is the town line with Bloomfield. The southern border of the CDP follows a line just south of West Point Terrace from Talcott Mountain back down to the river.
Vena contracta Just beyond the Swartswood Lake Dam, the river is forced to narrow by a concrete bridge support. Flow separation is clearly evident at the sharp bend, just above the vena contracta Vena contracta is the point in a fluid stream where the diameter of the stream is the least, and fluid velocity is at its maximum, such as in the case of a stream issuing out of a nozzle (orifice). (Evangelista Torricelli, 1643). It is a place where the cross section area is minimum.
The combined route then branches eastward onto Evergreen Street and passes the local hospital and high school complexes on the way out of Bunkie. After LA 115 departs to the north toward Hessmer and Marksville, LA 29 continues through the small town of Evergreen. The highway assumes a winding path along several bayous for the remainder of its journey. Traveling along Front Street through the town of Cottonport, LA 29 takes on the character of a scenic route as it hugs a sharp bend in Bayou Rouge.
The postal van, between the locomotive and first carriage, was almost undamaged and none of its three postal workers was injured. About four chains (88 yards, 80 metres) of track were torn up. Mr A. Stewart, the driver, said that he had shut off steam at the top of a rise and the train was proceeding downhill under its own weight. As it rounded a sharp bend he got a glimpse of the slip and the engine was ploughing through it before he could apply brakes.
When TBP binds to a TATA box within the DNA, it distorts the DNA by inserting amino acid side-chains between base pairs, partially unwinding the helix, and doubly kinking it. The distortion is accomplished through a great amount of surface contact between the protein and DNA. TBP binds with the negatively charged phosphates in the DNA backbone through positively charged lysine and arginine amino acid residues. The sharp bend in the DNA is produced through projection of four bulky phenylalanine residues into the minor groove.
It becomes High Street East, passing Glossop Leisure Centre on the right. There is a roundabout and it becomes Sheffield Road, then Woodcock Road as it leaves Glossop and enters the Peak District National Park (Dark Peak). There is a sharp bend to the right and it becomes Snake Pass. It climbs up Holden Clough and at Featherbed Moss, it is crossed by the Pennine Way at the summit at 1550 ft, with the hills of Bleaklow to the left and Kinder Scout to the right.
The pattern of faults within the Sea of Marmara basin is complex but near Istanbul there is a single main fault segment with a sharp bend. To the west, the fault trends west-east and is pure strike-slip in type. To the east, the fault is NW–SE trending and show evidence of both normal and strike-slip motion. Movement on the Gulf of Izmit section of the fault, which bounds the Çınarcık Basin, is the most likely cause of the 1894 event.
Barrington is located on the eastern side of Narragansett Bay, in Bristol County, Rhode Island, the third smallest county in the United States. (See "Download the Database" for an explanation of this data set.) Situated southeast of Providence, it consists of two peninsulas divided by the Barrington and Warren rivers. The shoreline of the western peninsula, Phebe's Neck or Popanomscut, is marked by many coves and indentations, making a sharp bend at Nayatt Point. Rumstick Neck, located around one and a half miles east of Nayatt, forms the southern end of Phebe's Neck.
Lake Lucerne (, literally "Lake of the four forested settlements" (in English usually translated as forest cantons), , ) is a lake in central Switzerland and the fourth largest in the country. The lake has a complicated shape, with several sharp bends and four arms. It starts in the south–north bound Reuss Valley between steep cliffs above the Urnersee from Flüelen towards Brunnen to the north before it makes a sharp bend to the west where it continues into the Gersauer Becken. Here is also the deepest point of the lake with .
Prior to European settlement the area was inhabited by the Ngarrindjeri people. They made bark and reed canoes, and lived on the fish and animals residing beside the river. Once written as "Tail'em Bend", the origin of the town's name is still argued over. Some attribute it to a corruption of the Ngarrindjeri word "thelim" meaning "bend", associated with the sharp bend that the Murray River makes in this location. Others yet say that original Ngarrindjeri inhabitants called this part of the river ‘Thelum Ki’ which means bent water.
Inga Falls is a rapid 40 km from Matadi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where the Congo River drops 96 m (315 ft) over the course of 15 km (9 mi).World Waterfalls Database Inga Falls Inga Falls form a part of a larger group of rapids in the lower Congo River. Livingstone Falls are located upstream closer to the Pool Malebo. These falls have formed in a sharp bend of Congo River where the width of river fluctuates from more than 4 km to mere 260 m.
Aerosol Impaction is the process in which particles are removed from an air stream by forcing the gases to make a sharp bend. Particles above a certain size possess so much momentum that they can not follow the air stream and strike a collection surface which is available for later analysis of mass and composition. Removal of particles from an air-stream by impaction followed by mass and composition analysis has always been a different approach as to filter sampling, yet has been little utilized for routine analysis because of lack of suitable analytical methods.
At the same time, its track made a sharp bend toward the northeast, threatening the Florida peninsula. While no central pressure was recorded, Hurricane Hunter aircraft flew into the storm on June 23 and reported winds of at 2015 UTC. As with most early reconnaissance data, such readings are suspect; however, based upon the reconnaissance measurement, the storm was originally listed in the Atlantic hurricane database as a Category 3 hurricane. Later, reanalysis lowered this estimate to , equal to Category 2 on the modern Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, due primarily to the absence of corroboration.
In February 2002, Brazier was given a four-month suspended sentence after he crashed into and killed a motorcyclist in Italy on 29 August 2001. Brazier had been driving on the wrong side of the road approaching a sharp bend when he hit a motorcyclist, 42-year-old Carlo Civitelli, near Siena. He used his TA training to give Civitelli first aid at the scene, but the man died three days later. Italian police found that Mr Civitelli's helmet was not properly fitted and that he was probably speeding.
It rises on the border between the two countries, near the juncture of N'Gounié and Ogooué- Lolo provinces of Gabon, runs south along the border and then southwest through the Niari province of Congo, then enters the Nyanga province of Gabon and makes a sharp bend to the northwest. It passes through Nyanga's capital Tchibanga (the largest city on the river), then gradually bends around to the southwest again, running through a series of rapids before coming out onto a coastal plain and emptying into the Atlantic Ocean.
The centre of Upper Elmers End today This was once a small hamlet distinct from Elmers End proper, centred on the sharp bend on Upper Elmers End Road south of the railway line.Willey, Russ. Chambers London Gazetteer, p 510 The hamlet was the site of a brewery, which was converted into Kempton's bakery in the 1930s. It was around this period that large scale housing development began in the area, with Upper Elmers End merging into Elmers End and Eden Park over time and losing its separate identity.
Most of the crashes have involved heavy goods vehicles which are not able to slow down sufficiently to make the sharp bend after picking up speed on the hill. Meath County Council and the National Roads Authority have installed a number of traffic calming measures over the years in an attempt to make the bend onto the bridge safer. These include separate traffic signals for heavy goods vehicles and cars, as well as a 30km/h speed limit throughout the village. Since their installation, fatal accidents have ceased.
It performs a sharp bend at Camley Street Natural Park, following Goods Way where it flows behind both St Pancras railway station and King's Cross railway station. The canal opens out into Battlebridge Basin, originally known as Horsfall Basin, home of the London Canal Museum. Continuing eastwards beyond the Islington tunnel it forms the southern end of Broadway Market and meets the Hertford Union Canal at Victoria Park, East London. It turns south towards the Limehouse Basin, where it meets the Limehouse Cut, and ends as it joins the River Thames.
Shortly afterwards, Moorhead lost contact with all three lead companies. Later in the afternoon a runner from D Company reported that A Company was in a desperate battle against tanks and infantry with D Company in support. The battalion adjutant, Captain A.E. Charlton, went forward across a wooded bridge over the Kampong To stream and with the runner he turned the sharp bend a hundred meters ahead. On rounding the bend, Charlton discovered a Japanese tank a short distance ahead and the mortar section of A Company in a heavy firefight.
Kelok 9 or Kelok Sembilan is a winding road segment located about 30 km east of Payakumbuh, West Sumatera to Riau province of Indonesia. Kelok Sembilan means 9 sharp turns. This road stretches through Jorong Aie Putiah, Nagari Sarilamak, Harau sub-district of Lima Puluh Kota Regency of West Sumatera and is part of the interconnecting road link between Central Sumatra and the East Coast of Sumatra. The road has a sharp bend, bordering on a ravine, and flanked by two hills between two nature reserves: the White Water Reservation and the Harau Nature Reserve.
Veur-Lent is the name of an island in the Dutch river Waal. This city island is part of the municipality of Nijmegen, it is situated in the Lent Quarter, north of the city center. Owing to the threat of dike breaches at high water, it was decided in 1995 that more water would need to flow through the river. Because the sharp bend in the Waal at Nijmegen created a bottleneck and restricted the water flow, a three kilometer long parallel gully, called the Spiegelwaal, was dug at this point.
The route passes through the community of Bald Eagle and heads northeast through a mix of farm fields and woods, making a sharp bend to the southeast. PA 425 turns northeast and follows Woodbine Road through rural land, curving north and then northeast to reach the community of Woodbine. Here, the road crosses the Muddy Creek into Lower Chanceford Township and heads north into farmland with some trees and homes. PA 425 curves to the northwest and continues through agricultural areas, making a turn to the northeast at an intersection with Frosty Hill Road.
From the south, LA 136 begins at an intersection with LA 134 in the small community of Fairbanks. At this intersection, LA 134 turns east away from Fairbanks while LA 136 proceeds straight ahead in a northerly direction and crosses the Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi Railroad (ALM) line at a point known as Fowler. LA 134 parallels Bayou De Siard along a sharp bend to the west at Guthrie. It reaches its eastern terminus soon afterward at an intersection with US 165 and LA 2 at the eastern edge of Sterlington.
The Willibaldsburg The fortified palace lies west of the Old Town on an elongated hill ridge, the Willibaldsberg (;Map services of the BfN see Willibald von Eichstätt), above the Altmühl valley. Its total length is about 420 metres and it is naturally well protected thanks to its location. The Altmühl river here forms a sharp bend which, due to the resulting ridge was an ideal spot for the medieval castle and later fortress. The high medieval castle of Bishop Berthold lay on the western spur of the castle hill.
The river Waal not only has a sharp bend near Nijmegen, it also forms a bottleneck. In 1993 and 1995 this led to high water and floods. To prevent this from happening again and to protect inhabitants of the city and its surroundings against the water, work has been done to relocate the Waal dike in Lent and to excavate a large ancillary channel in the flood plains, creating an island in the Waal. The large-scale project involves the construction of three bridges, new dikes and concrete water barriers.
The name of the village translates from the Welsh Y Gilwern (from cil-gwern) as "the recess (or bend) of the alders", probably a reference to its position at the point where the Clydach Gorge opens out into the Usk Valley and the River Clydach flows into a sharp bend in the River Usk. The village is within the Llanelly parish ward of Monmouthshire County Council. The church of Llanelly, dedicated to St Elli, is on the hillside above the village, and parts date back to the 12th century.
The line was opened on 29 December 1903 and services began on New Year's Eve. The line departed from the eastern end of Landau station and turned in a sharp bend into the valley of the River Isar, which it crossed. It reached the watershed between the Isar and the Vils at a height of 420 metres and crossed the Vils near Aufhausen on a flood embankment. South of Haunersdorf it climbed up to the second ridge between the Vils and Kollbach valleys at a height of 445 metres.
It receives Connoquenessing Creek west of Ellwood City and flows past Beaver Falls and New Brighton. It joins the Ohio at Bridgewater and Rochester (flowing between these two towns) at the downstream end of a sharp bend in the Ohio approximately 20 mi (32 km) northwest of (and downstream from) Pittsburgh. In the lower reaches near the Ohio River, the Beaver cuts through a gorge of underlying sandstone. The river is roughly parallel to the border with the state of Ohio, with both Interstate 376 and Pennsylvania Route 18 running parallel to the river itself.
Tattenham Corner refers to the sharp bend in the track at the eastern (upper) part of Epsom Racecourse and its immediate vicinity, which includes Tattenham Corner railway station, a few shops and a branch library. The racecourse itself and a short length of road between the station and the course are in the borough of Epsom & Ewell. The remainder of the local area, which is residential and has a high proportion of Central London commuters, is known as Tattenhams or Great Tattenham and Little Tattenham, and is in Tattenhams ward of Reigate & Banstead.
Battersea Bridge is a five-span arch bridge with cast-iron girders and granite piers crossing the River Thames in London, England. It is situated on a sharp bend in the river, and links Battersea south of the river with Chelsea to the north. The bridge replaced a ferry service that had operated near the site since at least the middle of the 16th century. The first Battersea Bridge was a toll bridge commissioned by John, Earl Spencer, who had recently acquired the rights to operate the ferry.
The M25 motorway passes, without junctions for more than 3 miles, through the west of the village. The main north-south road, the A318 road in New Haw is one of few A-roads in the South East to have narrow sections for HGVs at the bridge crossing the Wey Navigation and with a sharp bend on the turn-off for Woodham. The route also has fixed and mobile speed cameras. The village's railway stations are West Byfleet and Byfleet and New Haw, which was originally called West Weybridge.
LA 1141 is an undivided two-lane highway for its entire length. Once part of the main highway running along the Gulf of Mexico through Cameron Parish, this section of roadway was severed from the mainland in the mid-1940s when the Calcasieu Ship Channel was dug across its right-of-way. This bypassed a sharp bend in Calcasieu Pass and created what became known as Monkey Island. A second ferry crossing was necessary to carry automobile traffic through Cameron until the highway was re-aligned to the north of the island around 1954.
Parks, originally called Potier, lies in the area previously known as La Pointe District, which existed in 1765. It was also called La Pointe de Repose, supposedly because the cowhands in the early 19th century drove their cattle into the cul-de-sac formed by the sharp bend of the bayou on round up time. Settlement began in the Parks village shortly after 1900. Around that time, Paul Melancon purchased a large tract of land in the vicinity of what is now Parks in order to establish a cotton farm.
The duodenum forms a large loop, the descending part of which first is directed downwards towards the gastralia and then runs to the back. There in a sharp bend, the folds of which are clearly visible, it turns to the front, proceeding as an ascending tract, its visible part ending near the stomach. At this point the tract is directed to the left of the body, perpendicular to the fossil slab, and its course can thus no longer be followed. Nearby and slightly above, a subsequent intestine part surfaces that has been interpreted as the jejunum.
Jonas Ridge Chestnut Mountain, from the Brown Mountain Overlook Pineola The route serves as the main road from Morganton to Northern Burke County then on towards Newland in Avery County. The first of the road appears as a regular back road highway, going by homes and shrubbery farms. At Brown Mountain Beach Road, the sharp bend of the highway starts the climb up through the Pisgah National Forest to Jonas Ridge. This section of the highway features multiple curves (some tight with speed warnings), multiple passing lanes (five up, two down, one turnoff down), and mostly undeveloped wooded lands.
Though, the losses are high for such slot structures, this scheme exploiting the asymmetric slots may have potential to design very compact optical directional couplers and polarization beam splitters for on-chip integrated optical devices. The slot waveguide bend is another structure essential to the waveguide design of several Integrated micro- and nano-optics devices. One of the benefits of waveguide bends is the reduction of the footprint size of the device. There are two approaches based on the similarity of Si rails width to form the sharp bend in slot waveguide, which are the symmetric and asymmetric slot waveguides .
Its Turkish name comes from the sharp bend of the road in front of it to pass around a tomb which is supposed to belong to Hazret Hafiz, a companion of Muhammad who died there during the first Arab siege of the city. It is usually, but not conclusively, identified with the Byzantine Kaligaria Gate (, porta en tois Kaligariois), the "Gate of the Bootmakers' Quarter" (cf. Latin caliga, "sandal").; ; From the last tower of the Wall of Manuel Komnenos to the so-called Prison of Anemas stretches another wall, some 150 m in length, with four square towers.
The road between Thurgarton and Southwell is relatively undulating and bendy. Entering Southwell from the south-west, passing the leisure centre, we then meet the B6386 at a T-junction where you need to turn off the A612 to stay on the numbered route. After passing the West gate to Southwell Minster, the road turns right at a mini roundabout by the Saracen's Head public house and passes the north side of the Minster. A further sharp bend to the left allows us to pass another racecourse, this time Southwell Racecourse, before exiting Southwell past the former workhouse which is now a museum.
SR 287 makes a sharp bend right before an aggressive left-right curve. SR 287 intersects Township Road 169, and then passes its intersection with the start of Township Road 150. Township Road 150, starts and ends on two different points of SR 287, and has no other intersections. SR 287 forms an intersection at the Union Chapel with County Road 41 and County Road 15 in which SR 287 bends back on itself in a turn that's around 60 degrees. This intersection is a three-way-stop with the section of SR 287 coming from the north not stopping.
Saint-Alphonse Road Bridge (Lac-aux-Sables) spanning the Tawachiche River 0.5 km from its mouth. The Tawachiche River watershed covers 196 km² and is the ninth largest sub-watershed in the Batiscanie.. River Tawachiche pass through a single village, Hervey-Jonction, then crosses Rang Saint-Charles and empties into the Batiscan River (which forms a sharp bend at this point), at the limit Sainte-Thècle and Lac-aux-Sables. Its main tributary, the Tawachiche West River, flows into Tawachiche river at about 13 km from its mouth (in Audy sector, at the boundary of Zec Tawachiche).
Another much shorter (approximately ) branch of the Caldon main line, the Foxley, ran from Milton in the north east of Stoke-on-Trent through Sneyd Green to Ford Green Iron Works near Smallthorne, where it ended in a two parallel basins of each. What little remains of the Foxley can be found in the Holden Lane Pools nature reserve, as well as alongside the footpath from the reserve to the Elizabethan Ford Green Hall. The position of the former junction is marked, on a sharp bend in the canal, at a pub called The Foxley in Milton.
The Little Tennessee River enters Tennessee from its source in the Appalachian Mountains and flows for just over through parts of Blount, Monroe, and Loudon counties before emptying into the Tennessee River near Lenoir City. Tellico Lake, created by the completion of Tellico Dam in 1979, spans the lower of the river. The Chota site is located approximately above the mouth of the river, opposite a sharp bend in the river known as Bacon's Bend. Both Chota and Tanasi were developed by the Cherokee on a relatively flat terrace flanked by steep hills rising to the south.
1792 Since then, this site has been investigated further and is generally accepted as the site of Clausentum, but there is no universal agreement. Reference to modern maps shows Bitterne Manor to be from Chichester. Wickham is at the junction of two Roman Roads and is a better fit to the distances documented in Antonine Itinerary VII. The case for Clausentum being situated at Bitterne Manor is based on archaeological evidence, and the geography of the site (nestled inside a sharp bend in the River Itchen) which clearly allowed it to be turned into a good defensive position.
Alternatively, the name might be Gaelic Cala ghearraidh, meaning "beach of the meadow (pasture)", or Gaelic for either "clear running water" or "bay farm". The indigenous peoples of Southern Alberta referred to the Calgary area as "elbow", in reference to the sharp bend made by the Bow River and the Elbow River. In some cases, the area was named after the reeds that grew along the riverbanks, reeds which had been used to fashion bows. In the Blackfoot language (Siksiká), the area was known as Mohkínstsis akápiyoyis, meaning "elbow many houses", reflecting its strong settler presence.
Offset - the total dimension that the shutter will travel outwards when moved from the closed to the open position. The offset is typically the distance from the face of the casement to the outermost surface of the structure. The offset is developed in shutter hardware by selection a pintle made to "stand off" the casement a given distance - the shutter hinge has a sharp bend which moves the hinge barrel away from the face of the shutter at a distance to match the pintle standoff. When measuring offset, it is critical to allow for irregularities in construction.
The Hastings Line (operated by Southeastern) joins the East Coastway Line (operated by Southern) immediately east of West St Leonards, at Bo-Peep junction, just before entering Bo-Peep tunnel. Plans were made for platforms to be built on the East Coastway Line for interchange but Hastings Borough Council decided that there was no economic or passenger benefit as interchange was already available at the next station (Warrior Square). The nature of the station layout, with the platforms built on a sharp bend, means that for safety reasons all trains from first to last, must be manually despatched by platform staff.
Re-routing of the A54 away from the narrow cobbled streets of Congleton town centre was first proposed in 1935. Prior to this, at the point where the A34 now converges with the A54 an unusual lighthouse was erected in 1924 bearing the words "Dangerous hill - change to low gear", backlit at night, to reduce accidents at the sharp bend. According to a 2007 report by the Road Safety Foundation for the European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP), the A54 is one of the most dangerous roads in the UK, second only to the A682 in Lancashire."'Most dangerous' roads revealed". bbc.com.
The broad track peters out into a beaten trail that turns east at the lower end of the crest (15 min). Next, it cuts its way straight across the southern side of the mountain along a pine tree plantation on the right till the spring Oria is reached at a sharp bend. After some zigzag and steep slopes heading south-west (1h00), the huts of Zirigarate are reached, which stand on a hollow. From Zirigarate, the trail heads east to the col of Egurral (1,152 m), the last milestone before the final struggle to the summit largely through karst terrain (1h45).
Gallows existed up to 1802 at the sharp bend on the Bromham Road.NJ Greenaway, Some notes on the history of Queens Park, 1980 In 1890 W.H.Allen from London brought twenty acres of land west of Bedford town centre to establish his 'Queens Engineering Works', and housing for his employees. The works (opened in 1894) and the new community were named in honour of the queen of the day, Queen Victoria. Queens Park has hosted many communities migrating to the Bedford area over the 20th century, firstly Irish and Italian families, followed by Asians, Africans, and most recently, people from Eastern Europe.
Bar Run enters Mill Creek from the west about a mile above Cottageville. At Cottageville, Mill Creek is joined by Falls Run, coming from the east; Sugar Run is a tributary of Falls Run. As it leaves the hills above Ripley Landing, Mill Creek is met by Lick Run, which drains much of the center portion of the district, coming from the northeast. The creek then flows northwest toward the Ohio, making a sharp bend to the southeast just shy of the river bank, then turns southwest toward Millwood, where it joins the Ohio just above the mouth of Little Mill Creek.
SR 732 ascends a steep hill near Indian Creek Park. SR 732 continues north past a sharp bend as it leaves the creek and ascends to the flashing caution light as it crosses Stillwell-Becket Road with the water tower at the southwest corner of this intersection. SR 732 continues north through farm fields on a straight road passing Talawanda Middle School on the east side of the road. North end of SR 732 at the Eaton Post Office in Eaton, Ohio SR 732 reaches the southwest corner of Oxford at the intersection of Oxford-Reily Road with West Chestnut Street.
Trail marker trees designated areas of significant importance to Native Americans including council circles and gathering points. A well defined council circle, the Greensky Council Trees still exists to this day shaped by the Odawa tribe in 1830 and is located in Northern Michigan. They altered the trees in traditional Odawa fashion to mark the location: to honor this location that had been and would continue to be sacred to their people. Each of these trees takes a sharp bend away from the center of the circle at a height of eight feet and then turns up again; a dramatic and elegant designation.
The station building was converted into a house by the artist Peter Blake and his then wife Jann Haworth, in the mid-1970s. The railway followed the route of the Radstock arm of the Somerset Coal Canal. Although the Camerton branch of the canal was very successful, the Radstock branch was not, mainly because its connection to the main line at Midford involved transhipment via a tramway, and it carried very little traffic. The canal was mainly obliterated by the railway although a sharp bend (still in water) at St Julian's Well, and a tunnel, were bypassed by the viaduct over the foot of Bull's Hill.

Measurements from Google Earth The sharp sided ridge keeps the two rivers apart. However, the course of the Missouri is a sharp bend toward the north, toward the valley of the Teton River, causing the very strong Missouri River current to be forcefully directed toward the Cracon du Nez ridge on the river's north bank, resulting in aggressive undercutting and eroding of the ridge separating the two rivers. The Cracon du Nez ridge is of a soft clay substance. As a consequence, the Missouri river is causing the entire hillside below the main ridge to be undergoing slumping and sliding into the Missouri River.
The Board of Administration initially agreed, drafting a plan to construct the station with a service frequency comparable to other intermediate stops on the line, and to pay compensation of 20,000 guilders if service was ever discontinued. For unknown reasons, however, executives from the HIJSM jumped the gun on the board's ruling, and began an expropriation process that would see the land acquired from Crommelin without the construction of the Zandvoort station. This process took two years and failed to acquire the land, by which time the railway was almost ready to commence services. The railway's solution was to construct a sharp bend around the disputed property.
Stapleton was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Though it has been known that a settlement has existed on this sharp bend in the river since the 9th century. The village and surrounding area were granted by William the Conqueror to a knight who would become known as Benedict de Stapleton, by the 13th century the 'de Stapleton' family gave some lands around the village to the nearby Premonstratensian monks of Easby Abbey and in so doing forgoing the obligation to maintain a ferryboat across the river. One member of the Stapleton family, Miles Stapleton of Bedale was one of the founding members of the Order of the Garter.
The river has its headwaters on the north slopes of McAfee Peak in the Independence Mountains of northeastern Nevada. It quickly exits the mountains and turns southward for approximately , joining its waters with numerous other streams. Making a sharp bend to the east, it flows through a small gorge called Devil's Gap, and then combines with Beaver Creek before resuming its southward course. The river, often with no more than a trickle of water left after its long journey through the dry hills of north-central Elko County, finally flows into the main branch of the Humboldt River about northeast of the city of Elko.
The former trackbed from Bayreuth-Oberobsang (the crossroads of the B 85 with Himmelkronstraße) to Heinersreuth (end of Bayreuther Straße shortly before entering the town) was removed in the 1970s to enable the upgrade of the B 85\. Today, Drossenfelder Weg and Drossenfelder Straße are on the former base of the old B 85\. The level crossing at the end of the present-day Bayreuther Straße was very dangerous because the road ran uphill and cut the trackbed at a very sharp bend. Much of the rest of the line from Bayreuth to Kulmbach has been converted into the Red Main Cycle Way (Rotmain-Radweg) .
From here, the route becomes undivided and runs through the commercial downtown of Millersburg before continuing into residential areas with a few businesses. The road leaves Millersburg for Upper Paxton Township again and becomes unnamed, heading through a mix of fields and woods with some development a short distance to the east of the Buffalo Line. PA 147 curves northwest and continues through rural areas, with the road and railroad tracks drawing closer to the Susquehanna River. The route heads to the southwest of forested Mahantango Mountain and makes a sharp bend to the northeast along with the river and railroad line, heading along the northwest side of the mountain.
River Fiddich near Bridgehaugh in 1983 The River Fiddich () is a right bank tributary of the River Spey in northeast Scotland. It rises on the eastern slopes of Corriehabbie Hill in Glenfiddich Forest and flows northeastwards beneath the A941 road, past Auchindoun Castle to a sharp bend adjacent to the A920 road where it turns westwards to flow to Dufftown. The Fiddich is joined on the eastern edge of the town by the Dullan Water which drains Glen Rinnes. Their combined waters then flow generally northwestwards, passing beneath the B9014 road near Balvenie Castle and then the A95 at Craigellachie immediately before meeting the Spey.
It is at the western bend of the Karakash River, which originates in the Aksai Chin plains, flows northeast and makes a sharp bend to the west at the foot of the Kunlun range. After making another bend near Shahidulla, it flows northeast again, cutting through the Kunlun mountains towards Khotan. The traditional site of Shahidulla is located northwest of the modern town, about downstream. Caravaners talk about a "southern branch" of the Kunlun range at the foot of which the Karakash flows, and a "northern branch" (also called the "Kilian range") which has various passes (from the west to east, Yangi, Kilik, Kilian, Sanju, Hindu-tagh and Ilchi passes).
The Carlin Tunnel is a collective name for a set of four tunnel bores in the Humboldt River's Carlin Canyon, east of Carlin in Elko County, Nevada, United States. The two railroad bores were constructed for different purposes at different times, while the two highway bores were constructed concurrently, all with the goal of bypassing a sharp bend in the river. Currently, two of the bores carry Interstate 80, while the other two bores carry Union Pacific Railroad's Overland Route and Central Corridor. Bridges over the Humboldt River are adjacent to both portals of three tubes, including the two freeway bores and one of the railroad bores.
Hose adaptor to allow adjustable sharp bend at connection to demand valve A diving regulator first stage with A-clamp connector and 90-degree swivel on one hose Adaptors are available to modify the lead of the low pressure hose where it attaches to the demand valve. There are adaptors which provide a fixed angle and those which are variable while in use. As with all additional moving parts, they are an additional possible point of failure, so should only be used where there is sufficient advantage to offset this risk. They are mainly useful to improve the hose lead on regulators used with sidemount and sling mount cylinders.
The River Hooke is a small river in the county of Dorset in southern England. It runs from its source at Toller Whelme through the villages and hamlets of Hooke, Kingcombe, Toller Porcorum and Toller Fratrum to join the River Frome at Maiden Newton, a course of some 6 miles. The river was formerly called the River Toller, whence the name of the three Toller villages, as well as of the hundred of Tollerford. At some point however this former name was replaced in use by reference to a particular feature in the river's course: "Hooke" is a derivation of hoc, Old English for "sharp bend in a stream".
The accident occurred when a 30-seater coach carrying a party of members of the York Municipal Employees' Guild and their families on an outing to Bolton Abbey from York suffered brake failure as it travelled down a 1:6 (9.5°) (16.67%) gradient from Fancarl Top to the bottom of the valley downstream of Grimwith reservoir. It gained considerable speed and failing to negotiate the sharp bend at the bottom crashed through the parapet of Dibble's Bridge, landing on its roof. Many of the passengers were pinned beneath the vehicle, five being killed instantly, whilst two others died within half an hour. A number of other passengers were injured.
2018 World Time Trial Champion Together with Ellen van Dijk, Marianne Vos and Loes Gunnewijk, van Vleuten represented The Netherlands in the Women's road race at the 2012 Summer Olympics, which was won by Vos. She also competed in the 2015 European Games for the Netherlands, in cycling, more specifically, the women's time trial; van Vleuten won a bronze medal. On 7 August 2016, while leading the road race at the 2016 Olympic Games, van Vleuten crashed head first on the descent from Vista Chinesa after missing the brake timing of a sharp bend, before the finish. The crash resulted in her being hospitalised with three lumbar spinal fractures and a severe concussion.
If the river abruptly arrived at a sharp bend, the boats would follow Descartes third law of motion and hit the shore of the river since the flow of the particles in the river would not have enough force to change the direction of the boat. However, the much lighter floating debris would follow the river since the particles in the river would have sufficient force to change the direction of the debris. In the heavens, it’s the circular flow of celestial particles, or aether, that causes the motion of the planets to be circular. As to the reason why heavy objects on Earth fall, Descartes explained this through the agitation of the particles in the atmosphere.
The VC had been using these watercourses extensively for logistic resupply and to gain access to the villages in the area. On 15 February 10 Platoon D Company had deployed to southern end of the battalion AO to mount a night ambush on a high bank on a sharp bend in the Suoi Cau river. The infantry were reinforced by 90 mm M67 recoilless rifles (RCLs) from the Tracker Platoon, which were placed on the flanks. At 21:03 six sampans carrying around 15 VC entered the engagement area moving from west to east and the ambush was initiated by splintex rounds from the RCLs as well as M60 machine-guns and small arms.
Frankford Creek is a minor tributary of the Delaware River in southeast Pennsylvania. It derived its name from the nearby town of Frankford, Philadelphia County. The stream originates as Tookany Creek at Hill Crest in Cheltenham Township and meanders eastward, then southeastward, throughout Cheltenham Township, until a sharp bend near the Philadelphia border at Lawncrest, where the place names Toxony and Tookany were used in historic times; the stream is still known as Tookany Creek in this region, where it flows southwest. Turning south into Philadelphia at the crotch of Philadelphia's V-shaped border, the creek is called Tacony Creek; from here southward, it is considered the informal boundary separating Northeast Philadelphia from the rest of the city.
The Act also allowed the corporation to acquire the Dock Navigation Company and the Preston Dock Branch Line railway from the North Union Railway company in order to develop Preston as a major port. Construction began in 1884 and there was an enormous amount of work that had to be done. The river, which ran parallel to Strand Road and followed a course further north than its current location, was diverted so that the new dock basin could be created. A new channel was cut to the south, with a sharp bend taking the river westward from about opposite the old Victory Quay at Marsh lane, through the area known as Penwortham Marsh.
Near Istanbul the northern side of the NMFS pull-apart coincides with the northern branch of the NAF and is a single main fault segment with a sharp bend. To the west, the fault trends W-E and is pure strike-slip in type. To the east, the fault is NW-SE trending and shows evidence of both normal and strike-slip motion. In 1766, the rupture of the fault happened either under the Princes' Islands or, more probably, under the Çınarcık Basin, since a more central break could not have caused the great tsunami that struck Istanbul and the Gulf of Izmit, although this had been produced by a submarine landslide.
The Thames curves sharply at Battersea Bridge Although the five spans of the current bridge are far wider than the nineteen spans of the original bridge, Battersea Bridge's location on a sharp bend in the river still presents a hazard to navigation. In 1948, the MV Delta jammed under the bridge, and its master Hendrikus Oostring suffered broken arms and needed to be rescued from the smashed wheelhouse. On 23 March 1950, the collier John Hopkinson collided with the central pier, causing serious structural damage, leaving the tram tracks as the only element holding the bridge together. The London County Council was concerned that the entire structure would collapse and closed the bridge until January 1951.
The penis is pendulous, without a sharp bend in the length, the glans penis has a lateral fold and is funnel-shaped in profile. The ratio of the third to second phalanx bone of the wings third finger is greater than 0.84, The measured range of length of the head and body combined is 36 to 46 mm, the tail is 28 to 34 mm, from notch at base to tip the ear length is 9 to 13 millimetres. The skull, at its longest measurement, is 11.9 to 13.4 millimetres with a mean of 12.7 mm. A sampled weight range of V. regulus from 3.6 to 7.0 grams gave a mean figure of 5.2 grams.
TriMet's second paint scheme, which was adopted in August 1980 and was the agency's standard paint scheme from 1980 to 2002 (but remains in use on the oldest buses, built before 2002, in 2019), features a white base with a three- color stripe below the windows. The stripe colors are (in order from top to bottom) burgundy, red and orange, and near the front on each side the stripe makes a sharp bend and angles upward to the roof (except on MAX cars). The logo of TriMetwhich at that time was still using the hyphenated spelling Tri- Metwas shown on the front end. TriMet's third paint scheme, of white with blue and "buttery" yellow, was adopted in August 2002.
The High Street Historic District in Wilmington, Massachusetts is a residential historic district along High Street. The district runs east from High Street's junction with Salem Street (Massachusetts Route 62) to a sharp bend in the road where it meets the right-of-way for Interstate 93. Of the 17 contributing properties, all but four are located on the north side of the road (between numbers 8 and 72); the rest are on the south side (numbers 31, 47, 57 and 67). It represents a cluster of high quality houses built mainly in the second half of the 19th century, although there is one contributing property (a Cape style house at 58 High Street) built in 1942.
Oogarding, a two storey, rendered masonry house in the Mediterranean Revival style was built in 1940-41 to the design of architect Mervyn Rylance. The house is prominently located on a sharp bend in Simpsons Road in the Brisbane suburb of Bardon and is set on a large block of land, against a stand of tall gum trees. In 1940, Rylance was commissioned by Mr James Gervase (Gerb) Joyce and Mrs Edith Joyce to design a house for them on a one-acre allotment which had been subdivided from the Joyce family property in Bardon. Gerb Joyce was a well known Brisbane business identity and owner of the Helidon Spa soft drink company.
This section ends with another roundabout beneath the NAIA Expressway's off-ramp just before the road makes a sharp bend to the west. ;Andrews Avenue The main section of Andrews Avenue is an eight-lane divided arterial that runs along the northern perimeter of the airport. From the roundabout across from the Philippine Air Force Aerospace Museum, the avenue continues along the southern side of Newport City, a mixed-use development facing the NAIA Terminal 3. It passes the integrated resort complex of Resorts World Manila, the Star Cruises Centre and the Shrine of St. Therese before reaching a large roundabout with a prominent "egg structure" in the middle called Circulo del Mundo.
Edith, Pat and Robin returned to Australia on 23 November 1923, but Penleigh and Edith had a heated argument soon after the homecoming. A few days later, for reasons unknown, Penleigh left Melbourne to drive to Sydney in the company of another person, but he lost control of the vehicle on a sharp bend near Warragul and it overturned. The passenger survived but Penleigh suffered terrible injuries and died at the scene within minutes. The proceeds of Penleigh's estate—including the sale of 'The Robins', the repaired car and about 40 paintings, plus an annual allowance from Penleigh's father, and a small inheritance from her own father—enabled Edith Boyd to support her sons without needing to work, even during the depths of the Depression.
Street in Setenil Modern Setenil evolved from a fortified Moorish town that occupied a bluff overlooking a sharp bend in the Rio Trejo northwest of Ronda. The castle dates from at least the Almohad period in the 12th century. The site was certainly occupied during the Roman invasion of the region in the 1st century AD. Setenil was once believed to be the successor of the Roman town of Laccipo, but it was subsequently proved that Laccipo became the town of Casares in Malaga. Given the evidence of other nearby cave-dwelling societies, such as those at the Cueva de la Pileta west of Ronda, where habitation has been tracked back more than 25,000 years, it is possible that Setenil was occupied much much earlier.
A new Eleanor cross was erected in 1865 outside Charing Cross railway station, several hundred yards from the original site: see Replicas and imitations below. A mural by David Gentleman on the platform walls of Charing Cross underground station, commissioned by London Transport in 1978, depicts, in the form of wood engravings, the story of the building of the medieval cross by stonemasons and sculptors.Gentleman 1979. Folk etymology holds that the name Charing derives from French ' (dear queen); but the name "Charing" for the area in fact pre- dates Eleanor's death and probably comes from the Anglo-Saxon word ', meaning a bend, as it stands on the outside of a sharp bend in the River Thames (compare Charing in Kent).
The Emerald Fracture Zone is the westernmost portion of the Pacific-Antarctic Ridge and is a young leaky transform fault zone no older than 2.197-2.229 Ma. This zone was formed during a change in the Pacific-Antarctic Plate Boundary between 3.4 and 3.86 Ma during a transformation of the Pacific-Antarctic Plate Boundary. This transformation was due to the change in the absolute motion of the Pacific Plate in response to Louisville hotspot activity. The alteration of the Pacific Plate ‘s motion caused a left-lateral strike-slip fault to form at the Pacific-Antarctic Boundary. This strike-slip fault is located near the triple junction along a sharp bend in the westernmost region of the Pacific-Antarctic Boundary.
Within the town limits of Godwin, it intersects US 301 and east of there, along the Godwin-Falcon Road, is I-95 and the town of Falcon. Going in a southerly direction, in parallel of the South River to its east, it heads towards US 13; near its eastern terminus it makes a sharp bend onto Herb Farm Road, avoiding a section of road where a bridge once existed crossing over the South River and into Sampson County. NC 82 ends from the Cumberland-Sampson county line. NC 82 overlaps with one state scenic byway, the Averasboro Battlefield Scenic Byway, between Erwin and Godwin The highway from J Street in Erwin to Burnett Road near Godwin is also part of North Carolina Bicycle Route 5.
At the end of the season Banks was named as the FWA Footballer of the Year, becoming the first goalkeeper to receive the honour since Bert Trautmann in 1956. On 22 October 1972, while driving home from a session of work on his injured shoulder with the Stoke physiotherapist, Banks lost control of his new Ford Consul (a re- badged Ford Granada Mk I) car, which ended up in a ditch. He had attempted to overtake a car on a sharp bend and collided with an oncoming Austin A60 van. He was taken to the North Staffordshire Hospital and during an operation received 200 stitches in his face and over 100 micro-stitches inside the socket of his right eye, and was told the chances of saving the sight in his eye were 50–50.
It runs in a North-northeast direction from the A59 at Bond End in Knaresborough where it is called Boroughbridge Road, through the Stockwells Estate. It exits Knaresborough just past Greengate Lane where it turns directly north, before once again resuming a northeasterly direction at a sharp bend on the junction with Farnham Lane. It passes the Knaresborough Golf Club, before going through Ferrensby Lodge, and taking another Northerly turn before reaching Ferrensby itself. Beyond Ferrensby the road is called Harrogate Road, and it continues in a more or less exact northeasterly direction from Ferrensby to Spellow Hill, near Staveley, at which point it resumes its due North direction through Minskip, before turning Northeast one final time to its former terminus at junction 48 of the A1(M), just outside Boroughbridge.
Not far to the east of the NY 10 junction, it crosses the West Branch of the Delaware River, by this point a small brook as the river's source is located just to the north. It maintains this elevation during a brief, foray into Schoharie County that leads the route around a pair of mountains situated south of the county line. Approaching US 9W on NY 23 near Catskill Elevation drops slightly upon reaching the hamlet of Grand Gorge within the town of Roxbury, located just above a small pond alongside NY 30 that gives rise to the Delaware's East Branch. NY 23 intersects NY 30 in the hamlet's center before making a sharp bend to the south as it approaches the Schoharie Reservoir, located southeast of Grand Gorge.
Tram 2551, the tram involved in the incident, operating route 3 in 2010 The accident took place in the dark and during heavy rain at 06:07, on a sharp left curve approaching the points where the route from New Addington (on which the tram was operating) converges with the line from Beckenham Junction and Elmers End. The curve is located in a cutting, which comes almost immediately after the line emerges from a series of three tunnels on a straight section of track after leaving Lloyd Park tram stop. It has been described as a "sharp bend", and has a speed restriction. The tram entered the curve at a speed of approximately and derailed, overturning on its right side and coming to a stand beyond the point of derailment, damaging the side of the tram and ejecting several passengers through broken windows.
The total length of this mountain is about twenty five to thirty miles and its average height about 8000 feet above sea level. It ascends from the Indus basin at its southern end near the village of Kiara and goes up to its watershed near the village Baradar; then it runs north-east by north to the point on the crest known as Chitabat. From here the range runs due north, finally descending to the Indus by two large spurs, at the foot of the easternmost of which lies Thakot. The Indus, after passing Thakot, turns westward along the northern foot of the mountain till it washes the western of the two aforementioned spurs, when it takes a sharp bend to the south, and runs below and parallel to the western foot of this mountain range.
Probable site of ton or mound Although there are no available written records of the area before 1600, analysis of the area's archaeology and landscape reveals its earlier history. Recently discovered post stumps in the south Thames foreshore near Vauxhall Bridge point to a ritual jetty or possibly the first London bridge, by the outlet of the River Effra, from around 1500 BC. The Effra formed the southerly boundary to the common. Three closely related geographic features defined the area of Kennington Common as sacred in ancient times: the sharp bend in the river Effra before it flowed into the Thames, a strategic mound or tumulus, and an important fork in the main road from the river crossing which is now known as London Bridge. This made it a sacred place of 'national' assembly which may have related to the jetty or bridge.
The main village of Lealholm is situated at the bottom of Crunkly Ghyll (sometimes spelled "Crunkley" and "Gill"), a deep cutting where the river emerges into the flat bottom of a glacial U-shaped valley. This was crucial to its development as a settlement, becoming an important crossing point over the River Esk where the valley flattens out, becoming shallow at end of a sharp bend in the river before slowing to a deeper meandering course further downstream. The remains of the fording point are still visible next to the arched bridge used today, which dates back to the 17th century. Three roads lead from the centre of the village, one follows the river up the valley towards Danby; the second heads north past the hamlet of Lealholmside and across the moors towards Whitby; and the third leads south, towards Fryup and Rosedale.
The minor road (Midhope Cliff Lane) which runs across the embankment is thought to be the longest single carriageway of any reservoir in Great Britain. The embankment road has a sharp bend in it as it joins the A616 main road, this was a last minute change in construction plans, as keeping it straight would have meant the demolition of the Waggon and Horses public house. The reservoir was completed in 1904 when Alderman T.R. Gainsford closed the valve in the Langsett tower and the reservoir started to fill up, he was then presented with a golden key by the engineer William Watts. Local depopulation was used in the early part of the twentieth century to improve the water purity, and six farms were abandoned these included Brookhouse farm and North America farm, the last farmer left around 1907.
Here Drake saw his first combat action as Executive Officer of the 36th, which was almost constantly under artillery fire from the rebel guns at Fort Pemberton, at the confluence of the Tallahatchie and Yazoo Rivers, and during which the 36th Iowa conducted two hazardous long-range reconnaissance-in-force operations to try to locate a dry land route that would enable them to flank the rebel fort, which had been reinforced with large naval cannon. The regiment suffered 5 wounded from enemy snipers and some half-dozen others died of fevers and were buried at Shell Mound, Mississippi adjacent to the Curtis Plantation on the banks of the Tallahatchie River. Shell Mound, an ancient Native American ceremonial mound, was some 1.5 miles north of the enemy fort located at a sharp bend in the river, three miles west of Greenwood, Mississippi.
Foreign object damage to the compressor blades of a Honeywell LTS101 turboshaft engine on a Bell 222, caused by a small bolt that passed through the protective inlet screen PT6T installed on a Bell 412. Air enters from upper right, and pure air follows the curved ramp down to the compressor inlet (also covered by a screen). Any debris being sucked in will have enough momentum that it will not make such a sharp bend, and will hit the screen on the upper left, and will be carried out to the left, getting blown overboard. Potential foreign object debris (in this case, a Scops owl) found in the wheel well of an F/A-18 Hornet on a US aircraft carrier In aviation and aerospace, foreign object damage (FOD) is any article or substance, alien to an aircraft or system, which could potentially cause damage.
It is in the Ionic order and located by the ancient Forum Boarium by the Tiber, during Antiquity the site overlooked the Port Tiberinus at a sharp bend in the river; from here, Portunus watched over cattle barges as they entered the city from Ostia. Rear view The temple was originally built in the 3rd or 4th century BCE but was rebuilt between 120-80 BCE, the rectangular building consists of a tetrastyle portico and cella, raised on a high podium reached by a flight of steps, which it retains. Like the Maison Carrée in Nîmes, it has a pronaos portico of four Ionic columns across and two columns deep. The columns of the portico are free-standing, while the remaining five columns on the long sides and the four columns at the rear are half-columns engaged along the walls of the cella.
The Lambeth Waterworks Company anticipated this by choosing to build their works at Seething Wells in 1847, which were purchased around 1849, and completed and opened in 1852. Another company - the Chelsea Waterworks Company - joined the Lambeth Waterworks Company here, they started construction in 1854 and opened in 1856. The Lambeth Waterworks played a part in John Snow's investigations into cholera; he showed that homes supplied from further downriver by the Southwark and Vauxhall Waterworks Company had a cholera mortality rate 14 times that of homes supplied by Seething Wells, which was upriver and hence had cleaner water. Remaining, functioning, surface level water pipes in the residential area Despite carrying less disease, the inlets at Seething Wells sucked up too much mud with the water because of turbulence caused by the twin-mouthed River Mole, The Rythe, and the sharp bend in the Thames.
Pumori, Lingtren and Khumbutse panorama When ascending the Khumbu valley at the start of the successful 1953 Everest expedition, John Hunt said that the glacier appeared as if it could only originate at an apparent valley head between Lingtren and Nuptse – the Icefall and Western Cwm were completely invisible around the sharp bend in the glacier. He described one summit of Lingtren as being "square and steep- ridged" and another to the east (he called it Lingtren Two) as "thin as a wafer at its top, looking incredibly fragile". There has been no fully accepted record of the mountain having been climbed since 1935 and this would mean it has never been climbed from the Nepalese side. This is perhaps remarkable because from Everest Base Camp, along with Pumori and Khumbutse (which have both been climbed), the mountain is very noticeable being less than away.

There are two "obvious" locations for such a crossover: one is just west of the existing Oshawa station where the CP line forms a sharp bend at Thickson Road; the other is to follow the existing railbridge just east of the station where CP switches traffic for the GM plants. The latter is more difficult in theory, because of the location of the Via station directly off the east end of the tracks. The current proposed expansion route follows the CNR rail corridor south of Highway 401 eastward to Thickson Road in Whitby, where a new split would cross north of the highway to connect to the CPR corridor. The Government of Ontario also announced the Ontario Line project on April 10, 2019; the current plan is for the new Toronto rapid transit line to share the railway corridor with the Lakeshore East and Stouffville lines between approximately Cherry St. and Pape Ave.
The renaturalised Meiße near the Meißendorf Lakes The Meiße rises south of Wietzendorf in the nature reserve of Großes Moor (near Becklingen).Description of the Großes Moor bei Becklingen nature reserve by the NLWKN Originally the upper course of the upper Wietze (Örtze) was the headstream of the Meiße before the Großes Moor diverted the Wietze into the River Örtze at a point south of the sharp bend in the river near Wietzendorf as a result of headward erosion. The Meiße flows through the villages of Bleckmar, Hasselhorst (in the unparished area of Lohheide on the Bergen-Hohne Training Area), Belsen, Hörsten, Gudehausen and Hartmannshausen (all three also belonging to Lohheide), as well as Meißendorf, and discharges into the Aller south of Hodenhagen after about . Its left-hand tributary streams are the Berger Bach, which flows through the town of Bergen and joins the Meiße near Belsen, and the small Geltteichsgraben and Bruchbach, which originate in the Meißendorf Lakes.
These early European settlements are now within the limits of the city of New Orleans, though predating the city's official founding. New Orleans was founded in early 1718 by the French as La Nouvelle-Orléans, under the direction of Louisiana governor Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. After considering several alternatives, Bienville selected the site for several strategic reasons and practical considerations, including: it was relatively high ground, along a sharp bend of the flood-prone Mississippi River, which thus created a natural levee (previously chosen as the site of an abandoned Quinipissa village); it was adjacent to the trading route and portage between the Mississippi and Lake Pontchartrain via Bayou St. John, offering access to the Gulf of Mexico port of Biloxi without going downriver 100 miles; and it offered control of the entire Mississippi River Valley, at a safe distance from Spanish and English colonial settlements. From its founding, the French intended New Orleans to be an important colonial city.

In 2001 Breuer discovered a slightly separated part of the settlement with pottery kilns, already lying on the eastern side of river Schussen at Mariabrunn, more than half a mile eastern the first discovered pottery area.750 Jahre Eriskirch (Tettnang 2007), page 23. . In 2012 he managed even to localize the Roman necropolis of the first century AD of the ancient village. Studying Claudius Ptolemaios' Geography,Klaudios Ptolemaios, Handbuch der Geographie (Basel 2006), he stated further, that because Ptolemy didn’t realize the sharp bend of the Rhine at Basel, many Raetian towns are located by Ptolemy at the wrong position. Because also some towns like Cambodunum and Abodiacum are presented as being located much too eastern, he came to the conclusion, that there should be a big unknown ancient town called “Drusomagus” located by Ptolemy in the Lake Constance region,Klaudios Ptolemaios, Handbuch der Geographie (Basel 2006),2,12,5, Europa, 5. Artist's impression by H.W. Last, in De Nederlandsche Stoompost from June 6th, 1847 Van der Gaag Lane (Dutch: Laantje van Van der Gaag) was a short privately-owned road south of Delft in the Netherlands, notable for being the subject of a frog war between property developer A.H.J. van Wickevoort Crommelin and the operator of the Netherlands' first railway, Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij. The lane was purchased from the innkeeper J. van der Gaag in 1845 to serve as a holdout property, whose sole purpose was to block the construction of the Rotterdam-Hague railway in retaliation for the rail operator's refusal to add to the earlier Haarlem-Leiden line a train station that would serve Zandvoort, a town which van Wickevoort Crommelin was intent on promoting as a seaside resort. After a drawn-out expropriation process that took almost two years and failed to acquire the land, the railway company finally completed the line with a sharp bend around Crommelin's road, which served for only five days before the landowner caved to legal pressure and gave the land to the railway company for free.
There is another lesser-known route through the bottom of the canyon which starts by the sharp bend in the lower fire road before you reach the tennis court. From here the walker can follow the path past the ruins and over the foundation slab (which is often used as a "ground canvas" for mosaic stone patterns or worded messages spelled out in arranged rocks) and then along what would once have been the river bed, and eventually emerge at the bend at the back of the canyon on Runyon Canyon Road before the final rise up to Clouds Rest. The last bit of this route is a bit of a scramble, and be prepared for cactus, overgrown bushes, insects, and possible snake encounters, but most of the rest of it is less strenuous than the climb between Inspiration Point and Clouds Rest. Directly opposite where this Lower Canyon Trail joins Runyon Canyon Road, there is another steep hike over the Middle Rock which comes out by the electricity pylon just south of Indian Rock, and to the right is another river bed walk, which brings the walker out just north of the Lloyd Wright house.
It then makes a wide southward arc between the Tibetan and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateaus, dropping into what is often known as the "Grand Canyon of the East" or "China's Grand Canyon", a -deep gorge that takes it past the Chinese border into northeastern Burma through Shan State and Kayah State. Mawlamyaing (formerly Moulmein) on the Salween delta A sharp bend west and another south takes the Salween between the great mountain ranges of eastern Burma, the Daen Lao Range, a subrange of the Shan Hills, followed by the Dawna Hills in the east and the Karen Hills in the west,Burma -Geography the river then receives the Pai River also from the left and flows through Salawin National Park to join the Moei River from the east as it approaches Thailand, where it is called the Salawin, forming the Burma-Thailand boundary for about , before re-entering Burma, passing through Karen State and Mon State. The river finally breaks out of its gorge about from the mouth, and slows down dramatically as it courses through a series of agricultural valleys. About from the mouth the river finally widens and deepens enough to become navigable for large watercraft.
