Resigned to waiting for help, they settle down with drinks and talk. The conversation turns to dreams, and each man tells of a recurring nightmare. Karlsson turned professional with Brynäs IF in the 2002–03 season and was drafted in the fourth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by Ottawa Senators in NHL. He played for Brynäs through 2004–05, before moving to Almtuna IS in 2005–06, before settling down to one team Bofors IK for the 2006–07 season. Karlsson was tied for the team lead in scoring with 32 points (11 goals) in 2006-07 and added 34 penalty minutes in 44 games. The band had written about 16 songs in the three years spent on the road touring and had expected to cut the list to 10 after settling down to record in their New Orleans home studio. Wason served in the U. S. "La Couchette", like "Sardines"—the first episode of the previous series—introduces characters gradually, and explores "man's capacity to behave idiotically within a confined space to creepy and comic effect". The sleeper carriage setting is, like the wardrobe of "Sardines", a claustrophobic environment into which the various characters are forced. For comedy critic Bruce Dessau, though the setup was similar, "La Couchette" was "maybe more comic, less sinister, but the denouement is no less nightmare-inducing". The sleeper carriage setting gave Shearsmith and Pemberton a number of "traumatic" elements to exploit, such as claustrophobia, proximity to strangers, motion, and the various elements associated with settling down to sleep, such as flatulence and getting undressed.

To find a location which gave the feel of real Indian village during the 1960s, producers Lorraine and Girish scouted locations for six months before settling down to shot in the inner rural area of Kheda district (Gujarat, India). They were looking for a place with no electricity poles and water connection as they didn't exist in Tundel of 1965. The caste system still exists and is so deep-rooted in India that when they went to Hariyana village of Gujarat, Kheda to shoot, the people from lower caste requested them not to, as it might create problems for them later on. The first part of the movie was shot in 2012 January in India but the movie was delayed as it took two years to find the main protagonist.

The expert witnesses all agreed that the Waratah was designed and built properly and sailed in good condition.
