Juan Valverde de Amusco's Historia de la composicion del cuerpo humano (Rome, 1560). Juan Valverde de Amusco (or "de Hamusco") (c. 1525-?) was born in the Crown of Castille in what is now Spain in about the year 1525 and studied medicine in Padua and Rome under Realdo Columbo and Bartolomeo Eustachi. He published several works on anatomy, including De animi et corporis sanitate tuenda libellus (Paris, 1552).

On either side was a sprig of rye- grass, for the irrigation meadows of Beddington Sewage Farm. The crest also contained a gold crozier, another reference to the archbishops, and a crossed sword and tilting spear for the East India Company Military Seminary at Addiscombe. The motto, which was in Latin, was Sanitate Crescimus ("May we grow in health").C. W. Scott-Giles, Civic Heraldry of England and Wales, 2nd edition, London, 1953 Some charges from these arms were used, together with some charges from the coat of arms of Coulsdon and Purley Urban District, to form the new coat of arms of the London Borough of Croydon in 1965.

Antiochus () was a physician of ancient Greece who appears to have lived at Rome in the 2nd century AD. The ancient physician Galen gives a precise account of the food he used to eat and the way in which he lived;Galen, De Sanitate Tuenda, 5.5, vol. vi. p. 332 and tells us that, by paying attention to his diet, he was able to dispense with the use of medicines, and when upwards of eighty years old used to visit his patients on foot. He desired to make the works of Galen (and indeed those of Aristotle also) accessible to all readers of Latin. What he effected in the case of the first, though not trifling in itself, is inconsiderable as compared with the whole mass of Galen's writings; and of his translations from Aristotle, some of which are known to have been completed, nothing has survived. The following are the works of Galen translated by Linacre: #De sanitate tuenda, (Paris, 1517) #Methodus medendi (Paris, 1519) #De temperamentis et de Inaequali Intemperie (Cambridge, 1521) #De naturalibus facultatibus (London, 1523) #De symptomatum differentiis et causis (London, 1524) #De pulsuum Usu (London, without date). He also translated for the use of Prince Arthur an astronomical treatise of Proclus, De sphaera, which was printed at Venice by Aldus in 1499.

His research themes were gerontology and process of ageing. He was founder and leader of the Elderly Academy of László Batthyány-Strattmann since 1997. He was author of numberless scientific articles, books, parts of books, popular-science lecture articles and reports. He was awarded as honorary doctor of the University of Valencia (1983); Life for Years Prize (1994); Semmelweis University's Golden Ring; Pro Sanitate Commemorative Medal (1995); Knight's Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (2001). He was involved in different professional associations and non-profit organizations: member of the Council of Elderly (1996-1998) and associate chairman (1998-2002); Demographic Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) (1996- ); Hungarian Association of Gerontology and the chairman of the Professional Board of Gerontology (1993-1999), chairman of the Hungarian Social Policy Association (1992- ) and numerous other Hungarian and international professional organisations.
