Strange Fruit was started by six Oxford-based DJs, namely Paul Haswell, Verity Clarkson, Peter Vickerman, Andy Clyde, Steve Jefferis and Rebecca Shatwell. These DJs were fans of obscure independent and experimental music, and had tired of the samey nature of independent music following the Britpop boom of the mid-1990s. Naming themselves the "Strange Fruit Collective" (and taking the Strange Fruit name from a Northern Soul compilation owned by Peter, not from the John Peel-founded Strange Fruit Records as many assumed), the DJs started a small club taking place in Oxford every week playing a mix of popular indie at the time, northern soul, but for the most part obscure (and sometimes unlistenable) indie. Favourite bands included Stereolab, The Flaming Lips, Add N to (X) and Quickspace.

It received a B-minus rating from Entertainment Weekly critic Whitney Pastorek, who said that the "brash mockery of current events in the title track offset[s…] a sweet tribute to a friend who passed away" but added, "too few of these samey-sounding songs are memorable." Slant Magazine critic Jonathan Keefe wrote that Keith "walks a fine line between self-mythologizing and self-parody" and said that the "uptempo numbers[…]don't amount to much more than empty posturing," rating the album three stars out of five. In his Consumer Guide, Robert Christgau picked out two songs from the album ("Ballad of Balad" and "Cryin' for Me [Wayman's Song]") as a "choice cut".

The Digital Fix gave the same console version a score of seven out of ten and said, "It's really not the AAA title it wants to be but that said it's also far from bargain bin fodder, landing somewhere just above the middle." The Escapist gave it a similar score of three-and-a-half stars out of five and called it "a decent action-adventure with fun combat, but gets a little too samey here and there." Digital Spy gave it three stars out of five and said that it "excels as an open-world killing field, in which you can wrench anyone asunder in gory cascades of blood and guts.

Total Drama has had a total of 52 characters in the series who were introduced as contestants through five seasons. The first three seasons consist of an original set of cast, with a total of 25 characters (22 are introduced in the first episode of the series, while the other three are introduced later on), while the fourth season consists of only a new cast with 13 characters. However, the fifth season brings back both casts to compete together and against each other, while also introducing a third set of cast with 14 new characters.
