While "Some Might Say", a number one hit, had been released in April, the single chosen to precede the album's release was "Roll with It", planned for release on 14 August, six weeks before the album was due to hit the shelves. This was an unorthodox method for the time, contrasting the standard industry procedure of releasing the lead single three weeks before its parent album.: "Blur had assumed that Oasis would follow standard music business protocol, releasing a single three weeks before the album." Blur's management had become worried that this would hinder the chances of the group's forthcoming "Country House" single reaching number one the following week.

Around this time, Oasis became embroiled in a well documented media-fuelled feud with fellow Britpop band Blur. The differing styles of the bands now leading the Britpop movement—Oasis a working-class northern band, and Blur a middle-class southern band—made the media perceive them as natural rivals. In August 1995, Blur and Oasis released new singles on the same day; Blur's "Country House" outsold Oasis' "Roll with It" by 58,000 copies during the week. When the band mimed the single on Top of the Pops, Liam pretended to play Noel's guitar and Noel pretended to sing, taking a jibe at the show's lip-syncing format.

After learning of the rule against mutants attending the Halloween dance, which they helped set up, Chyna Parks (McClain), fantasized as a Medusa, concocts a potion that changes the A.N.T.s into human form. Parks later gets up on the stage and performs the song as everyone in the audience is dancing, with the newly transformed A.N.T.s reversed backed to their ghoulish form. The song was also used in "Beam It Up", the second-season Halloween-themed episode of the Disney Channel series Shake It Up (October 9, 2011). Gabby Duran & the Unsittables' Kylie Cantrall performed the song on the Halloween-themed episode "You Decide LIVE!" of the series Just Roll with It on October 4, 2019.

The album had first-week sales of 43,000 copies, making for the highest first-week sales on the Mercury Nashville label in seven years. "A Little More Country Than That" peaked at Number One on the country chart dated for the week ending April 3, 2010, making Easton Corbin the first solo male country artist to send a debut single to Number One since Dierks Bentley in 2003 with "What Was I Thinkin'". "Roll with It" was released as the album's second single; in October it also hit Number One. The album's third and final single, "I Can't Love You Back," released to radio in November 2010 and reached a peak of number 14 in early 2011.

NME wrote about the phenomenon, Billed as the greatest pop rivalry since the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, it was spurred on by jibes thrown back and forth between the two groups, with Oasis dismissing Blur as "Chas & Dave chimney sweep music", while Blur referred to their opponents as "Oasis Quo". In what was the best week for UK singles sales in a decade, on 20 August, Blur's "Country House" sold 274,000 copies to Oasis's "Roll with It"s 216,000, the songs charting at number one and number two, respectively.Harris, pg. 235. Blur performed their chart topping single on the BBC's Top of the Pops, with the band's bassist Alex James wearing an 'Oasis' t-shirt.

Back in the High Life (1986) was aimed more towards pop music, selling three million copies in the United States. The single "Higher Love" (taken from the album) became Winwood's first number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and Canadian Singles Chart, while also peaking at No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart. "Freedom Overspill", "Back in the High Life Again" and "The Finer Things" became major hits in the United States between 1986 and 1987. His fifth album Roll with It was released on Virgin Records in 1988, with the title track released as the lead single. That song became Winwood's second number one single on the Canadian Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100.

In April, the network unveiled their summer lineup – "Disney Channel GO!" – which, among other series, included a revival of Bug Juice entitled Bug Juice: My Adventures at Camp. Ernie Joseph "Cag" Cagnolatti (April 2, 1911, Madisonville, Louisiana – April 7, 1983, New Orleans) was an American jazz trumpeter. "Roll with It" received a great deal of attention when Food Records, the label of Britpop rivals Blur, moved the original release date of the single "Country House" to beat it on the charts, sparking what came to be known as "The Battle of Britpop". The British media had already reported an intense rivalry between the two bands and this clash of releases was seen as a battle for the number one spot. The media sensation was spurred on by verbal attacks from the respective camps (in particular Noel and Liam Gallagher, Damon Albarn and Alex James), that extended beyond the music industry to the point where the two bands were regularly mentioned on the evening news. In particular, public imagination was sparked by the contrast between the "working class" Oasis and the "middle class" Blur.

Increased interest in soul was reflected and fuelled by a series of covers and songs inspired by soul for a number of major acts, including Phil Collins's "You Can't Hurry Love" (1982), Culture Club's "Church of the Poison Mind", Paul Young's "Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)" (1983), the Style Council's "Shout to the Top" (1984), Eurythmics' "Here Comes the Rain Again", "Missionary Man" (1986), ABC's "When Smokey Sings" (1987), and Steve Winwood's "Higher Love", "Roll with It" (1988). English band Dexys Midnight Runners also achieved two UK #1s in "Come On Eileen" and "Geno" with their distinctive blend of Celtic folk, new wave and, most importantly, soul music. For the first time since the 1960s, there were also notable acts who specialised in soul. These included George Michael, who reinvented himself a white soul singer with the multi- platinum album Faith (1987).

During a promotional interview in September, the month before the album was released, Noel spoke about the rivalry with Damon Albarn and Alex James from Blur, and was quoted in 17 September edition of The Observer saying he hoped "the pair of them would catch AIDS and die because I fucking hate them two." Although Noel recanted and said that AIDS is no laughing matter, (scroll down to section 3.5) the quote caused a storm of controversy, with Noel having to write a letter of apology; he later confessed that "my whole world came crashing down in on me then".

Blur won the singles battle, with "Country House" beating Oasis' "Roll with It" to the top spot, but Oasis, with (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, would go on to greatly outsell Blur's album, the album of which would eventually become the second biggest album in the UK. After a decade in the business Pulp secured a first number one album while Britpop elder statesman Paul Weller also benefited from a return to popular and critical favour. Singles that went on to sell over a million copies were Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise", the first rap single to sell over a million in the UK, both of Robson & Jerome's songs ("Unchained Melody" / "White Cliffs of Dover", the biggest selling single of the year, and "I Believe" / "Up on the Roof") and Michael Jackson's "Earth Song". In addition, a second remix of New Order's "Blue Monday" (reaching number 17) pushed sales of that song over a million as well.

This set-up continued until 1980, when a protracted Musicians' Union strike resulted in the dropping of the live orchestra altogether and the use of pre-recorded tracks only. This accounts for a number of acts who never appeared on the show due to their reluctance to perform in this way. Highlights have included Jimi Hendrix who, on hearing someone else's track being played by mistake (in the days of live broadcast), mumbled "I don't know the words to that one, man", Shane MacGowan of The Pogues' drunken performance of "Fairytale of New York", a performance of "Roll with It" by Oasis in which Noel and Liam Gallagher exchanged roles with Noel miming to Liam's singing track and Liam pretending to play guitar, and BBC DJ John Peel's appearance as the mandolin soloist for Rod Stewart on "Maggie May". The miming policy on the show also led to the occasional technical hitch.

It reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and became his sixth number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. Four of the six singles issued from Faith went to number one in America, while by comparison, none managed to do so in the UK. "One More Try" was the third consecutive number one single from the Faith album. "One More Try" debuted at an impressive number 40 the week of 16 April 1988, and matching the speed of "Father Figure", reached number one by its seventh week, 28 May 1988, this time staying there for three consecutive weeks. "One More Try" was the second-longest running number one of 1988, tied with "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison, and behind the four-week run of Steve Winwood's "Roll with It". In total, "One More Try" spent seven weeks in the top 10 and 14 weeks in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Gallagher's compositions were more focused in balladry and placed more emphasis on "huge" choruses, with the string arrangements and more varied instrumentation contrasting with the rawness of the group's debut album. Morning Glory was the group's first album with drummer Alan White, who replaced Tony McCarroll (though McCarroll still appeared on the album, drumming on the track "Some Might Say"). The record propelled Oasis from being a crossover indie act to a worldwide rock phenomenon, and is seen by critics as a significant record in the timeline of British indie music.Seven Ages of Rock: What the World is Waiting For Morning Glory sold a record-breaking 345,000 copies in its first week, spent 10 weeks at no. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, and reached no. 4 on the US Billboard 200, making it the band's most commercially successful release. The album Roll with It was also nominated as Album of the Year. The song was the last #1 hit of Casey Kasem's 18-year run as the original host of American Top 40 (he would return to host the program 10 years later), as well as being the first #1 song of Shadoe Stevens' hosting tenure. The music video, directed by David Fincher and filmed in sepia-tone, depicts Winwood performing the song in a bar. The 1990 movie Nuns on the Run also made use of ths song.
As a reaction, Food Records pushed the release of "Country House" back a week and thus started what became known as "The Battle of Britpop". The event triggered an unprecedented amount of exposure for both bands in national newspapers and on television news bulletins, supposedly symbolising the battle between the middle class of the south and the working class of the north. In the midst of the battle a Guardian newspaper headline proclaimed "Working Class Heroes Lead Art School Trendies". In the event "Country House" outsold "Roll with It" by 54,000, and topped the singles chart for a fortnight.

"Don't You Know What the Night Can Do?" was released in 1988 as the second international single from Roll With It. In the United States, the song peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 11 weeks inside the Top 40. It reached number six on the Hot 100 Airplay chart and number eight on the Singles Sales chart. It also reached number two on the Adult Contemporary chart and spent two weeks atop the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The song peaked at number 46 in New Zealand and number 89 in the United Kingdom.
The album received near-universal acclaim on release, although its critical standing has since diminished. The album continued the band's run of hit singles, with "Country House", "The Universal", "Stereotypes" and "Charmless Man" all reaching the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart. In mid-2017, he released "i dont wanna waste my time" and "rain on me" onto his SoundCloud and on the 88rising channel. In an interview, Miller noted that he had been "making beats and working on a few big projects" and hinted at a full-length Joji project being released.
While "Some Might Say", a number one hit, had been released in April, the single chosen to precede the album's release was "Roll with It", planned for release on 14 August, six weeks before the album was due to hit the shelves. This was an unorthodox method for the time, contrasting the standard industry procedure of releasing the lead single three weeks before its parent album.: "Blur had assumed that Oasis would follow standard music business protocol, releasing a single three weeks before the album." Blur's management had become worried that this would hinder the chances of the group's forthcoming "Country House" single reaching number one the following week.
Around this time, Oasis became embroiled in a well documented media-fuelled feud with fellow Britpop band Blur. The differing styles of the bands now leading the Britpop movement—Oasis a working-class northern band, and Blur a middle-class southern band—made the media perceive them as natural rivals. In August 1995, Blur and Oasis released new singles on the same day; Blur's "Country House" outsold Oasis' "Roll with It" by 58,000 copies during the week. When the band mimed the single on Top of the Pops, Liam pretended to play Noel's guitar and Noel pretended to sing, taking a jibe at the show's lip-syncing format.
After learning of the rule against mutants attending the Halloween dance, which they helped set up, Chyna Parks (McClain), fantasized as a Medusa, concocts a potion that changes the A.N.T.s into human form. Parks later gets up on the stage and performs the song as everyone in the audience is dancing, with the newly transformed A.N.T.s reversed backed to their ghoulish form. The song was also used in "Beam It Up", the second-season Halloween-themed episode of the Disney Channel series Shake It Up (October 9, 2011). Gabby Duran & the Unsittables' Kylie Cantrall performed the song on the Halloween-themed episode "You Decide LIVE!" of the series Just Roll with It on October 4, 2019.
The album had first-week sales of 43,000 copies, making for the highest first-week sales on the Mercury Nashville label in seven years. "A Little More Country Than That" peaked at Number One on the country chart dated for the week ending April 3, 2010, making Easton Corbin the first solo male country artist to send a debut single to Number One since Dierks Bentley in 2003 with "What Was I Thinkin'". "Roll with It" was released as the album's second single; in October it also hit Number One. The album's third and final single, "I Can't Love You Back," released to radio in November 2010 and reached a peak of number 14 in early 2011.

The single "Higher Love" (taken from the album) became Winwood's first number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and Canadian Singles Chart, while also peaking at No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart. "Freedom Overspill", "Back in the High Life Again" and "The Finer Things" became major hits in the United States between 1986 and 1987. His fifth album Roll with It was released on Virgin Records in 1988, with the title track released as the lead single. That song became Winwood's second number one single on the Canadian Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100.
In April, the network unveiled their summer lineup – "Disney Channel GO!" – which, among other series, included a revival of Bug Juice entitled Bug Juice: My Adventures at Camp. New pickups, acquisitions, and renewals would continue throughout the end of 2018 into 2019, including Star Wars Resistance, Coop & Cami Ask the World, a fourth season of Bunk'd (which would not include regular cast members Peyton List, Karan Brar and Skai Jackson), Sydney to the Max, the miniseries Fast Layne, Just Roll with It, as well as the animated series Go Away, Unicorn! (co-produced with Canadian children's network YTV), Sadie Sparks, Ghostforce, and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir (which had aired on Disney Channel's international outlets since its inception).
Ernie Joseph "Cag" Cagnolatti (April 2, 1911, Madisonville, Louisiana – April 7, 1983, New Orleans) was an American jazz trumpeter. He was one of six children born to Leonce " Leon " Cagnolatti (August 26, 1877 - August 5, 1958) and Anna Shelby Cagnolatti (August 4, 1875 - June 2, 1949) An excerpt from a piece written about Cosimo Matassa titled " Roll With It " stated that " Little Cag " shared Italian and African American parentage. Cagnolatti began on trumpet around 1929 and played with Herbert Leary from 1933 to 1942, as well as off and on with Sidney Desvigne and Papa Celestin. Cagnolatti was a recurring member of many of the major New Orleans brass bands; he worked in the bands of George Williams in the 1940s and 1950s, and with Alphonse Picou in the early 1950s.
"Roll with It" received a great deal of attention when Food Records, the label of Britpop rivals Blur, moved the original release date of the single "Country House" to beat it on the charts, sparking what came to be known as "The Battle of Britpop". The British media had already reported an intense rivalry between the two bands and this clash of releases was seen as a battle for the number one spot. The media sensation was spurred on by verbal attacks from the respective camps (in particular Noel and Liam Gallagher, Damon Albarn and Alex James), that extended beyond the music industry to the point where the two bands were regularly mentioned on the evening news. In particular, public imagination was sparked by the contrast between the "working class" Oasis and the "middle class" Blur.
Increased interest in soul was reflected and fuelled by a series of covers and songs inspired by soul for a number of major acts, including Phil Collins's "You Can't Hurry Love" (1982), Culture Club's "Church of the Poison Mind", Paul Young's "Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)" (1983), the Style Council's "Shout to the Top" (1984), Eurythmics' "Here Comes the Rain Again", "Missionary Man" (1986), ABC's "When Smokey Sings" (1987), and Steve Winwood's "Higher Love", "Roll with It" (1988). English band Dexys Midnight Runners also achieved two UK #1s in "Come On Eileen" and "Geno" with their distinctive blend of Celtic folk, new wave and, most importantly, soul music. For the first time since the 1960s, there were also notable acts who specialised in soul. These included George Michael, who reinvented himself a white soul singer with the multi- platinum album Faith (1987).
Overall singles sales that week were up by 41 percent. In 2005, John Harris reflected on the importance of the event in popularising Britpop; "(as) Blur's "Country House" raced Oasis' "Roll with It" to the top of the charts, just about every voice in the media felt compelled to express an opinion on the freshly inaugurated age of Britpop." During a promotional interview in September, the month before the album was released, Noel spoke about the rivalry with Damon Albarn and Alex James from Blur, and was quoted in 17 September edition of The Observer saying he hoped "the pair of them would catch AIDS and die because I fucking hate them two." Although Noel recanted and said that AIDS is no laughing matter, (scroll down to section 3.5) the quote caused a storm of controversy, with Noel having to write a letter of apology; he later confessed that "my whole world came crashing down in on me then".
Blur won the singles battle, with "Country House" beating Oasis' "Roll with It" to the top spot, but Oasis, with (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, would go on to greatly outsell Blur's album, the album of which would eventually become the second biggest album in the UK. After a decade in the business Pulp secured a first number one album while Britpop elder statesman Paul Weller also benefited from a return to popular and critical favour. Singles that went on to sell over a million copies were Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise", the first rap single to sell over a million in the UK, both of Robson & Jerome's songs ("Unchained Melody" / "White Cliffs of Dover", the biggest selling single of the year, and "I Believe" / "Up on the Roof") and Michael Jackson's "Earth Song". In addition, a second remix of New Order's "Blue Monday" (reaching number 17) pushed sales of that song over a million as well.
This set-up continued until 1980, when a protracted Musicians' Union strike resulted in the dropping of the live orchestra altogether and the use of pre-recorded tracks only. This accounts for a number of acts who never appeared on the show due to their reluctance to perform in this way. Highlights have included Jimi Hendrix who, on hearing someone else's track being played by mistake (in the days of live broadcast), mumbled "I don't know the words to that one, man", Shane MacGowan of The Pogues' drunken performance of "Fairytale of New York", a performance of "Roll with It" by Oasis in which Noel and Liam Gallagher exchanged roles with Noel miming to Liam's singing track and Liam pretending to play guitar, and BBC DJ John Peel's appearance as the mandolin soloist for Rod Stewart on "Maggie May". The miming policy on the show also led to the occasional technical hitch.

Four of the six singles issued from Faith went to number one in America, while by comparison, none managed to do so in the UK. "One More Try" was the third consecutive number one single from the Faith album. "One More Try" debuted at an impressive number 40 the week of 16 April 1988, and matching the speed of "Father Figure", reached number one by its seventh week, 28 May 1988, this time staying there for three consecutive weeks. "One More Try" was the second-longest running number one of 1988, tied with "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison, and behind the four-week run of Steve Winwood's "Roll with It". In total, "One More Try" spent seven weeks in the top 10 and 14 weeks in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.
Gallagher's compositions were more focused in balladry and placed more emphasis on "huge" choruses, with the string arrangements and more varied instrumentation contrasting with the rawness of the group's debut album. Morning Glory was the group's first album with drummer Alan White, who replaced Tony McCarroll (though McCarroll still appeared on the album, drumming on the track "Some Might Say"). The record propelled Oasis from being a crossover indie act to a worldwide rock phenomenon, and is seen by critics as a significant record in the timeline of British indie music.Seven Ages of Rock: What the World is Waiting For Morning Glory sold a record-breaking 345,000 copies in its first week, spent 10 weeks at no. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, and reached no. 4 on the US Billboard 200, making it the band's most commercially successful release. The album yielded four major hit singles in the band’s native Britain: "Some Might Say" and "Don't Look Back in Anger" reached no. 1, and "Roll with It" and "Wonderwall" peaked at no. 2 – the latter spending a then lengthy 30 consecutive weeks on the chart during its initial run.
Duffy, Welsh soul artist Blue eyed soul music's chart success was at its highest when Hall and Oates' singles got heavy airplay on urban contemporary radio, as was the case with "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", "Kiss on My List", "One on One", "Say It Isn't So", "Adult Education", "Out of Touch", "Method of Modern Love" and "Everytime You Go Away". Most of those singles charted on the R&B; and dance charts, including some number-one hits. In 1985, Simply Red released "Holding Back the Years", one of the most successful blue-eyed soul ballads; "Money's Too Tight" and other singles by the group also performed well. Other successful blue-eyed soul songs of the 1980s include Phil Collins' cover of "You Can't Hurry Love" (1982); Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" (1982), "Time (Clock of the Heart)" (1982) and "Church of the Poison Mind" (1983); Dexys Midnight Runners' "Come On Eileen" (1983); the Style Council's "Shout to the Top" (1984); Teena Marie's "Lovergirl"(1985); Paul Young's "Every Time You Go Away" (1985); Eurythmics' "Missionary Man" (1986) and Steve Winwood's "Roll with It" (1988).
