The area contains typical habitats of the Dutch riverscapes, including: kolks, riparian forests and grasslands. There is a mining company located in the area, which extracts sand and gravel out of the ground. Riparian forests in the floodplains of Bemmel Along and through the most western part of Bemmel runs Park Lingezegen. This is a Dutch landscape park, located between the cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen.

George Augustus painted riverscapes of the Thames, moonlit landscapes, seascapes and views of Kent, Wales and elsewhere. After having four children, George and Caroline moved to Barnes, London, within a stone's throw of the Thames, where they lived for more than fifty years. George undoubtedly inherited his artistic talent, as did his siblings, from his father. His work, though, is distinct from that of the others in his family.

During her career in Binghamton, New York, Morisawa always kept the door open for her students to join lunches where discussions took place on the different factors of the state of geology as well as geomorphology. Marie loved to teach and engage with her students on geological discussions. Morisawa wrote eight books, including Evaluating Riverscapes in 1971. She founded the journal Geomorphology in 1986 and was its editor in chief.

Her research determined which characteristics of riverscapes are valued by certain demographics of the population through a ratings system that determined factors of beauty. Morisawa furthered her research on watersheds and geomorphology, publishing the article Quantitative Geomorphology of Some Watersheds in the Appalachian Plateau. Her research included looking at the geologic structure of the watershed basins in the Appalachian Plateau, and how other interactions affect the streamflow and geomorphology of the basins. The stratigraphy or specifically sequence stratigraphy of basins include anticlines that have been eroded over time and the outer edges of the basin defined with steep scarps.

Afternoon, the Village of Cap-à-l'Aigle Overlooking the St. Lawrence River, 1950 The sketching trips Collyer took as a student with Maurice Cullen resulted in a harmonious and rhythmic technique. Collyer's work was known for its shapes, rich colours, and soft rhythms. Her paintings were rarely figurative and did not focus on people; her favourite subjects were flowers, the forest, riverscapes, nature, old houses, villages, and churches, as in Afternoon, the Village of Cap-à-l'Aigle Overlooking the St. Lawrence River, 1950. Although Nora was aware of social problems and volunteered in hospitals, these concerns were not depicted in any of her paintings, and she did not use her painting as a direct vehicle for social commentary.
