Selene is desperate for Demetrio to be released from the dungeon and promises to Arsace she will marry him if only he can release Demetrio.

The Queens deduce that when Mark found his brother's body, Dr. Xavier had been clutching a torn jack, which Mark replaced with the six of spades to frame his sister- in-law (because with her out of the way, Mark stood to inherit Xavier's estate).

His uncle Tamer (1856–1914), a judge during the Ottoman era, was a well-known poet who stood publicly against the arbitrariness and corruption of Wasa Basha (Arabic ), the plenipotentiary governor of Mount Lebanon.Tamer Mallat's verses on Wasa Basha (ruled 1883–1892) are celebrated to date in Lebanon as the expression of courage in the face of corruption: "They say: Wasa has passed away, I responded, for I knew/Let coins ring off the marble of his grave, and I guarantee you he will come back to life." When Eleanor asks George how he'd feel and how they'd feel if something was to happen to Stuart, George is convinced and confesses that Stuart is at the Pishkin Buliding but when George asks if he's in trouble Frederick says he's not just in trouble, he's in big trouble and they head out by taxi to find Stuart. Meanwhile, Snowbell frees Margalo, but the Falcon arrives and tries to push Snowbell off the building, although he is intercepted by Margalo, who threatens to toss the ring off the roof if the Falcon kills Snowbell before Stuart swoops in to catch her. The Falcon catches up to the two in Central Park, while the Littles and Snowbell follow them. There, the Falcon attempts to drop them to their deaths by picking up and ripping off the top of the plane, but Stuart takes control of the plane again and ejects Margalo to keep her safe from danger in order to face the Falcon himself.

Returning to his hideout in an abandoned clocktower to consider his next move, Garret receives a message from Basso requesting his presence, whereupon after expressing his concerns over the incident at the manor, he hires Garrett to steal a ring off of a noble's body at a foundry that is being used to deal with the victims of the Gloom. Despite being nearly caught by the Baron's right-hand man, the Thief-Taker General, Garrett successfully completes the job and soon finds himself introduced to a man called Orion, the leader of a resistance movement working to bring down the Baron as a result of his tyranny, who hired him to steal the ring. Agreeing to help him, Garrett ventures to a hidden brothel to find a book, visiting Erin's hideout in the process and experiencing a vision of her mentioning a place called Moira Asylum. Shortly after completing Orion's job, Basso is arrested by the General, prompting Garrett to rescue him, while also breaking into the Baron's most secret vault and recovering a piece of a mysterious stone called the Primal, which he had witnessed being used in the ritual at Northcrest's manor.
