Michaeli placed this piece of music while the band was recording in the studio and Shirley thought it would be a good idea to record the piece as an intro. Originally, the band had titled the track "Requiem for the 80's" and planned to use it as the intro to "Riches to Rags", but in the end they decided to use it as the intro to "My Woman, My Friend" instead. "Not Supposed to Sing the Blues" was recorded in just one take. It was written as a tribute to the Sixties and all the musician who came from small places and turned the whole world upside down.

The winnings at first are meager, and are soon quickly depleted as Lim shares them with his two chums, Ah Nam (Brendan Yuan) and Lao Hui (Henry Thia), both of whom excavate bones from old graves for a living. The spirit cautions Lim and warns him to think first, for there would be consequences, should he want to strike big.

The lyrics to "I Am A Lonesome Hobo" tells of the typical riches to rags tradition, where a man openly admits to being a hobo having "tried my hand at bribery, Blackmail and deceit", yet has "served time for ev'rything 'cept beggin' on the street". In 2003, Sucsy was inspired to write and direct a narrative feature film about the famous true story of Jackie O's eccentric relatives "Big Edie" Bouvier Beale and "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale called Grey Gardens after viewing the well-known documentary of the same name. The day after he first watched the documentary, Sucsy embarked on what was to become a six-year process to get Grey Gardens made. He used primary sources including Little Edie's personal correspondence, private journals, and poetry as well as interviews with family members and friends as the basis of his original script which traced the Beales' tragic descent from riches to rags over some forty years. With Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange attached to star as the reclusive mother-daughter duo, the project made its way to HBO who, in 2006, announced that Grey Gardens was moving into production with Sucsy as its director.

Emperor Xuan of Han (91 BC – 10 January 48 BC), born Liu Bingyi (劉病已) and later renamed to Liu Xun (劉詢), was the tenth emperor of the Chinese Han dynasty, reigning from 74 to 48 BC, and was one of the only four Western Han emperors to receive a temple name (along with Emperor Gaozu, Emperor Wen and Emperor Wu). During his reign, the Han dynasty prospered economically and militarily became the regional superpower, and was considered by many to be the peak period of the entire Han history. He was succeeded by his son Emperor Yuan after his death in 48 BC. Emperor Xuan's life story was a riches-to-rags- to-riches story. He was born a prince as the great-grandson of Emperor Wu. His grandfather Liu Ju, was the son of Emperor Wu and Empress Wei and the crown prince of the Han Empire, who in 91 BC was framed for witchcraft practice against Emperor Wu and committed suicide after being forced into a failed uprising.
