From 1982, Rakoff lived in the United States (minus his four- month stay in Japan in 1986), first as a student, then as a resident alien. The United States deported Luigi Galleani and eight of his adherents to Italy in June 1919, three weeks after the June 2 wave of bombings initiated by the Galleanisti, but not because of any connection to those bombings. Authorities identified him as a resident alien who had advocated the violent overthrow of the government and authored a bomb-making manual. After landing in Italy, Galleani returned to publishing Cronaca Sovversiva. After Mussolini came to power in 1922, the anarchist was charged with sedition and sentenced to 14 months in prison.

Form 1042-T, also "Annual Summary and Transmittal of Forms 1042-S", is used to transmit Form 1042-S to the Internal Revenue Service. Form 1042-T is simply a 1-page summary of Form 1042-S. This is a list of novelists from the United States, listed with titles of a major work for each. This is not intended to be a list of every American (born U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen, or long-time resident alien) who has published a novel. (For the purposes of this article, novel is defined as an extended work of fiction. This definition is loosely interpreted to include novellas, novelettes, and books of interconnected short stories.) Novelists on this list have achieved a notability that exceeds merely having been published.

Most of these were inadmissible to the United States due to their criminal convictions in Cuba and in the U.S., but were not deportable as Cuba refused to accept them back. When Japan entered World War II in 1941, Orde-Lees, as a resident alien and citizen of a hostile power, was allowed to leave with his family; they moved to Wellington, New Zealand. Bebrits joined the Social Democratic Party of Hungary in 1917. Between 1923 and 1932 Bebrits lived in the United States, where he served as the head of the Hungarian section of the Communist Party USA and on the editorial staff of Új Előre (New Forward), the official organ of the Hungarian-American communist organization. Bebrits came under scrutiny of the U.S. Department of Justice as a resident alien communist and was deported to the Soviet Union in 1932. In 1934 he wrote a book on the differences between life in the United States and Soviet Russia.

If the student is 18 years of age or older, they can be considered for admission upon successful completion of the GED. Transfer Admission Requirements: Students are eligible for admission if they have earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher for all college work attempted and are in good standing at the last college attended. The Form W-8BEN, Certificate of Foreign Status of Beneficial Owner for United States Tax Withholding, is used by foreign persons (including corporations) to certify their non-U.S. status. Form 1042-S, also "Foreign Person's U.S. Source Income Subject to Withholding", is used to report any payments made to foreign persons. Non-resident alien employees receive a completed version of this form from their withholding agent if they have one. If the substantial presence test indicates that the individual is a resident, then income taxation is like any other U.S. person and may be filed using Form 1040 and the necessary schedules. Otherwise, the individual must file as a non-resident alien using Form 1040NR or Form 1040NR-EZ; the individual may claim a benefit from tax treaties that exist between the United States and the individual's country of citizenship. Sheikhan, a resident alien since he was nine years old, was arrested at his Las Vegas home on August 30, 2007 for violating his immigration status due to a 1995 conviction for misdemeanor sexual battery on a child under 18, where he served nine months in prison and 5 years probation. According to Sheikhan's lawyer, David Chesnoff, the young woman in this case was a 17-year-old girl that Sheikhan knew when he was in his early 20s. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actively searches for foreign nationals who were convicted of a sexual crime against children and then tries to get them deported. He was detained on an immigration hold for 1 week facing deportation proceedings however those proceedings have been since halted.

In a non-mythological context, xenia provided for the equitable treatment of foreign dignitaries, traders, and guests while visiting alien city-states through the office of the proxenos. A proxenos was a city-appointed official, either a native or a resident alien, who would look over the citizens of a specific foreign city when they visited the city he represented. That is, for example, a native citizen of Athens or a resident Corinthian would be appointed proxenos for visitors of Corinth in Athens, and was therefore responsible for both diplomacy between the two cities and the interests of Corinthian citizens in Athens. Although many in the Justice Department continued to believe Keracher was deportable as a resident alien holding political views which ultimately advocated "force and violence," deportation proceedings against Keracher were terminated by the Bureau of Immigration of the Department of Labor in June 1920. In January 1920, Keracher and his group of followers in Michigan (including those associated with the group who lived outside that state) were expelled from the Communist Party charged with "Menshevism," although Keracher himself continued to strongly support the Bolsheviks in Russia. Six months later, in June 1920, the Michigan group formed the Proletarian Party of America and Keracher remained the leader of the Proletarian Party for the rest of his life. As the Proletarian Party grew, local branches emerged in at least 38 U.S. cities.

One of the privileges that goes with American citizenship is the opportunity to become a commissioned officer in the navy. A person can be drafted as a resident alien or he/she can join the navy voluntarily as a foreigner, but can not become an officer unless they are a U.S. citizen. The number of Hispanics in the navy over-represent their percentage of the population. Kestutis Zadvydas was a resident alien in the United States who was ordered deported in 1994 based on his criminal record. Zadvydas was born of Lithuanian parents while in Germany, but was not a citizen of either country, and neither would accept him... Under federal law, once a person has been ordered to be deported, the U.S. Attorney General is required to detain them and complete the deportation within 90 days. However, the Attorney General claimed that if the 90-day period passed by without completing the desired deportation, the detention period could be continued indefinitely until the person could be deported. In September 1995 after Lithuania and Germany had refused to accept Zadvydas, he filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus in U.S. District Court.

The following year, the college reported 1,746 full-time and 1,489 part-time students enrolled in Fall 2013 semester for a total of 3,235 students. An additional 1,127 students in 2012 and 1,069 students in 2013 registered for non-credit non-degree courses. The college reported that 27.8% of full-time students in Fall 2012 and 23.5% of full-time students in Fall 2013 were enrolled in at least one remedial course in one of five subjects: Computation, Algebra, Reading, Writing, and English. In Fall 2013, the student body was 86.1% White or Caucasian, 2.0% Black or African-American, 8.0% Hispanic, 1.3% Asian or Pacific Islander, 0.1% American Indian 0.4% non-resident alien, 2.1% unknown race. Also, in Fall 2013, the student body was 47.2% male and 52.8% female.

Different movements in Judaism have different views on who is a Jew, and thus on what constitutes an interfaith marriage. Unlike Reform Judaism, the Orthodox stream does not accept as Jewish a person whose mother is not Jewish, nor a convert whose conversion was not performed according to classical Jewish law Although Conservative Judaism has not formally accepted patrilineal descent as of yet, it is making moves in that direction; moreover a majority of Conservative rabbis will accept Reform conversions even absent traditional halachic criteria.
