While La Máscara wrestles Garza kicks the shirt out of the ring. Late in the match La Méscara holds Vangelis so that Garza can double team him, but while La Comandante, Los Renegados corner woman, distracts Garza Vangelis fights out of the hold so that a distracted Garza ends up kicking La Máscara instead. In the end Los Renegados wins the second fall as well against the Trios champions. Following the match Garza walks out on his team without an explanation.

The Mexico vs. Japan match, the semi-main event of the show was scheduled to feature Los Renegados (El Terrible and El Texano Jr.), who had been a part of the "Mexico vs. Japan" storyline over the fall and winter of 2009, team up with Héctor Garza. While Garza was announced as the co-leader of Los Invasores he spent more time teaming with CMLL wrestlers, especially El Terrible and El Texano Jr. since turning Rudo in May, 2010.

However, after releasing their fifth album Rat Race in 1990, Vulcano stopped releasing new albums for several years. In this period of reflection the Vulcano still did some live shows, but the only official release from the band was a Cogumelo Records compilation from 2000 with a re- release of the song "Bloody Vengeance". In December 2001, Vulcano were taken by surprise by the death of Soto Jr. (guitar), who died of high blood pressure. In 2004, Vulcano created its own label Renegados Records and staged a comeback with a new album entitled Tales from the Black Book with Zhema (bass), Angel (vocals), Arthur Von Barbarian (drums), Andre Martins (guitar) and Claudio Passamani (guitar).

During the first fall of the match Vangelis takes advantage of a temporary distraction and hits Garza from behind before quickly exiting the ring, when Garza turns around he sees Hijo del Fantasma behind him and pushes him, thinking it was Hijo del Fantasma that had hit him. While the two argue Los Renegados take advantage of the situation and pins La Máscara to win the first fall. During the second fall Hijo del Fantasma gains control of the match, then motions to tag in Garza only to deny the tag and instead tag in La Máscara. Before entering the ring La Máscara removes his team shirt and throws it at Garza in an act of defiance.

This led to the wrongful disqualification of El Felino and his team in the third fall, so while Místico professed to being a técnico he won like a rúdo. Following the match both La Sombra and Mascara Dorada left the ring while Místico made a Lucha de Apuesta, or bet match, challenge to Felino although Felino did not seem interested in putting his hair on the line against Místico's mask. The rúdo/técnico orientation of one of the participants of the semi-main event was also a topic of interest since Héctor Garza in previous weeks had at times failed to get along with his teammates, although the previous week's match had gone off without a hitch. The CMLL World Trios Champions, Garza, El Hijo del Fantasma and La Máscara faced off against Los Renegados (El Texano Jr., El Terrible and Vangelis) in a non-title match.

The COVID-19 pandemic pauses the progression of the storyline, but both promotions passively helped each other by sharing their weekly shows. After Savio Vega's arrival to Major League Wrestling in June 2019, a collaboration between both promotions began, with the emergence of angles involving the IWA Caribbean Heavyweight Championship and Salina de la Renta. In addition, the eventual arrival of MLW World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu and Josef Samael (collectively known as Contra Unit) to IWA-PR was announced prior to the global outbreak, this as part of a collaboration with PCW Ultra. In July 2020, the creation of a regional alliance known as the Unión Panamericana de Lucha Libre (lit. “Pan American Union of Professional Wrestling”) was announced, with IWA-PR joining Society Action Wrestling (SAW- WAG) of Colombia, Súper Lucha Panamá of Panama, ARENA Fight: El Renacer Maya of Nicaragua and Renegados Lucha of Costa Rica as founding members.
