Berat and Elbasan, Albania: Evliya Çelebi's 17th century travel book Seyahatnâme contains descriptions of paradise gardens around the towns of Berat and Elbasan, Albania. According to Robert Elsie, an expert on Albanian culture, very few traces of the refined oriental culture of the Ottoman era remain here today. Çelebi describes the town of Berat as an open town with appealing homes, gardens, and fountains, spread over seven green hills. Çelebi similarly describes the town of Elbasan as having luxurious homes with vineyards, paradise gardens and well-appointed parks, each with a pool and fountain of pure water.

According to one legend, the temple has a murti (deity) of Venkateswara, which it is believed shall remain here for the entire duration of the present Kali Yuga.

Richmond was the centre for the administration of lands in the area. Military supervisor, Major Burke, placed mainly Irish soldiers of his 99th Regiment in Goulbourn. Scottish settlers from Perthshire were placed in the adjoining area of northeast Beckwith, while Irish civilians were settled in southeast Beckwith, Goulbourn, and other parts of the neighbouring townships. In the spring of 1818 the officers and men of 99th were at Quebec, and, in common with those of other regiments, had their choice of a passage home to Ireland or, if they so elected, to remain here in Canada where they would receive free grants of land in the new country to be settled on the Ottawa and Rideau rivers. 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron McDonnell RF-101C-60-MC Voodoo 56-0042 On 18 October 1961, four RF-101C Voodoos and a photo processing unit from the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron of the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, based at Yokota AB Japan, arrived at Tan Son Nhut, with the reconnaissance craft flying photographic missions over South Vietnam and Laos from 20 October under Operation Pipe Stem. The RF-101s would depart in January 1962 leaving Detachment 1, 15th tactical Reconnaissance Squadron to undertake photo-processing. In March 1962 a C-54 Skymaster outfitted for infrared reconnaissance arrived at the base and would remain here until February 1963, when it was replaced by a Brave Bull C-97. In December 1962 following the signing of the International Agreement on the Neutrality of Laos, which banned aerial reconnaissance over Laos, all 4 Able Marble RF-101Cs of the moved to the base from Don Muang Royal Thai Air Force Base.

In July 2009, the Italian aid organization Vento Di Terra, (Wind of Earth) and other volunteers built a school in the village, using the radical tyre-mud earth method, Ben Lynfield, 'Israeli Supreme Court to rule on demolition of West Bank village, ' The National 5 May 2018 to address the needs of the community and the difficulty for children to access other schools within the West Bank. This was the first school the Jahalin community ever had, one under the supervision of the Palestinian Ministry of Education. Emblazoned on its front is a sign reading: "We will remain here as long as the za’atar and the olives remain." A demolition order was served against the school by the Civil Administration one month after it opened, on the basis that it had been built too close to Highway 1, for which expansion plans have already been approved (although representatives of the State have stated demolition would not be carried out until the village relocation is completed).

He would not for the time being relinquish his duties as colonel and on April 20 a confrontation with Company H under Captain John E. Deans occurred. Captain Deans had been authorized in February to organize a battalion of Portsmouth Volunteers which had not materialized and with the expiration of their enlistment the men of Company H stacked their arms with most of the men reenlisting in other commands. When news reached Pryor he mustered the Greys and exchanged angered words accusing them of not shirking from the upcoming battle at which time Corporal John W. Lingo who spoke for the company stated the following "Colonel Pryor, we are not leaving on account of the enemy or approaching battle, but we do not desire to serve any longer under your command, but if we are put under the immediate command of Major Scott, every man will cheerfully remain here until the battle is over" Colonel Pryor then requested that all who desire this outcome please step forward and with exception of four men all did so. Pryor then ordered Major Scott to march these men to Yorktown and place them in the jailhouse for mutiny.

One record from the time shows – 'Richard York, paying eight pence a year for "his house late a barn"'. The main sources of revenue for the town were now from agriculture, livestock and quarrying with the Purbeck Stone quarries being worked to provide stone for minor expansion and house-building. The first non-market shops also appeared around this period, moving Swindon steadily away from a purely barter driven economy, with Robert and Margaret Boxwell opening the first recorded grocer independent of the market on the High Street in 1705. This business lasted at least 50 years, records show at that time they were importing tea and sugar from London. Manorial records of Swindon from 1700 to 1900 show that many families chose to remain here instead of seeking fortunes elsewhere – 'Swindon was not a town that its occupants readily moved from or changed'. The town's biggest employers in 1701 were the quarries, with 15 roughmasons or stonecutters and 40 labourers listed. Manorial records also note the following tradesmen/families in the town – Four bakers, four butchers, five innholders, 1 cooper, 1 mercer, 1 draper, 1 glover, 1 currier, 1 saddler, 3 weavers. 20 servants, 4 tailors, 10 cobblers, 4 blacksmiths, 2 carpenters, 1 chandler, 1 cheese factor, 1 joiner, 2 slaters, 1 wheelwright, 1 ironmonger, 1 glazier and 1 surgeon.
