Runic Flags 2–4, in turn, replace Latin characters with another system of signs and thereby break with habitual perception. The individual letters of the alphabet can no longer be overlooked. Runic Flag 2 records sounds by allocating each one a special form and color affiliated to its specific qualities. Runic Flag 3 takes on the level of characters, which we become aware of as graphic unities and forms by means of alienation.

The studio album Footprints Through The Snow was recorded & mixed by Giacomo Fiorenza at the Alpha Dept Studio in Bologna Italy over 8 hot days (with no air conditioning) in August & September 2004 with additional recording by Francesco Donadello & Matteo Agostinelli. It was mastered by Matteo Agostinelli at Alpha Dept Studio in May 2005. The album was released in Italy by Homesleep Records in January 2006 and in Europe in February 2006. It was licensed & re-released by Avant Garden Records in December 2006 in Taiwan and licensed & re-released by Pocket Records/Sounds Good in China in June 2011, with a bonus track and a colour lyric booklet.

Berwick Street mixes the old and the new with independent concepts including one stop cycle shop and café Soho Bikes, hair salon Bleach, antiques and vintage shop Absolute Vintage, Gosh comics and quality art material store Cass Art. Berwick Street is well known for its independent record shops, especially through the 1990s into the early 21st century (including Phonica records, Sounds of The Universe, Sister Ray, and Mr Bongo's), however many have closed due to the emergence of digital downloading. The street is also home to a variety of studios and advertising firms, including Berwick Post, Silk Sound, Vivid London, Street Furniture and Felt Music. There is a cabaret venue, The Box Soho (on the site of the former Raymond Revuebar), and some smaller restaurants and bars.

The lyrics for "Spirit Ditch" include the line "horse-laughter is dragging pianos to the ocean", which was inspired by a scene from the Luis Buñuel film Un chien andalou. Although he once explained the album's idiosyncratic sound by admitting "I didn't know what I was doing", Linkous purposely used found sounds throughout the recording of the album – these included sounds that he found on records, sounds that he recorded and, in one instance ("Ballad of a Cold Lost Marble"), the sound that a defective amplifier was making when a guitar was plugged into it. A drum machine was used on some songs instead of a live drummer. So as a joke, Linkous listed "Al Esis" as a band member in a band bio ("Alesis" is the name of a drum machine manufacturer).

As no albums of jungle were available in the United States, Law of the Jungle was conceived and distributed by Moonshine Music, an american electronic label primarily known for releasing techno music, as a jungle compilation for American shores under exclusive licence from British jungle label SOUR Records (Sounds of the Underground), whose catalogue, all of which was recorded at Trinity Studios in London, is used on the album. It was the first spin-off to Moonshine's Speed Limit 140 BPM+ series of compilations of fast-tempo techno music. Credited as executive producer, Stephen Levy compiled the album with David Stone, mastered it with Dave Aude West Hollywood studio The Still and is credited alongside Stan Endo for art direction. Mateo drew the illustration on the album cover.

New Order's music mixes rock with dance music, as can be seen on signature tracks such as 1982's "Temptation", 1983's "Blue Monday" and 1987's "True Faith". Founding member Hook stated that the band's shift from playing cold dark tracks from 1981 to producing electro/rock tracks from 1982 was inspired by the music of German electronic group Kraftwerk, US rock band Sparks who had produced disco/electro-rock music with producer Giorgio Moroder on their No. 1 in Heaven album, and also the Moroder/Donna Summer collaboration on "I Feel Love". New Order's collaboration with New York DJ Arthur Baker was inspired by the records' sounds of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force. The group's album art earned them the status of icons in the alternative community, and has shown considerable longevity.

The album features cuts Yoakam contributed to several tribute compilations, duets that appeared on other artists' albums, and a few unreleased covers, all in an effort to fulfill his recording contract to Audium, much like his old label Reprise did with the LP In Others’ Words the previous year. Like that album, Dwight’s Used Records sounds remarkably cohesive despite the various sources and artists involved, and speaks to the consistent run of strong recordings Yoakam and producer Pete Anderson developed over their nearly twenty-year run. The collection contains the rootsy blend of country and bluegrass that has always been at the heart of Yoakam's music, represented here with two duets with Ralph Stanley: the patriotic but lovesick "Down Where the River Bends," and "Miner’s Prayer," the only Yoakam original on the album that first appeared on his debut Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.
