Quartzo was a racing car line owned by Vitesse. Onyx Models and Trofeu were two other independent Portuguese brands started at about the same time, also possibly as start-up companies with EU influenced funding. Other toy companies such as Metosul with recastings of Dinkys and smaller sized Novacars had come out of Portugal earlier, but no company with the collector flair, variety of liveries, and sophistication of detail like Vitesse had previously appeared there. For comparison, fewer such companies seem to have come out of Greece, a country similar in environment, economic status and which had joined the EU even earlier than Portugal.

The Oldsmobile Toronado, the 1963 Corvette Stingray, the experimental Chevrolet Corvette-like Astro 1 and the Adams Probe all appear to have been recastings of previous British Corgi models. Though Tekno also made a Toronado and Pilen's Toronado had opening doors similar to the Tekno, the general look and opening headlights appear more like the Corgi. Several Pilen models were dead ringers for French Solidos such as the De Tomaso Mangusta which Dinky also made, but Pilen's version was more refined like the Solido, while the Dinky was rather thick and distorted. Pilen's Opel Manta was likely a Solido replica, as well as the Mercedes-Benz C111 rotary concept.

The storyline of the recasting of the role of Larry to actor Michael Storm in January 1969 was met with fanfare and acclaim, particularly at the explanation of the change in Larry's face being attributed to plastic surgery as he had been severely burned in a fire; this recasting method of popular lead characters would go on to be reused on various other soap operas including Dynasty, and again on One Life to Live with the recastings of Max Holden and Todd Manning. Michael Storm's portrayal of Larry earned him a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in the category of Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1978.

The Weinstein Company also heavily recast the film with bigger-name actors in the hopes of attracting a larger audience. Anne Hathaway replaced Tara Strong in the lead role of Red; Jim Belushi replaced David Ogden Stiers in the role of Kirk, the Woodsman; Anthony Anderson replaced Tony Leech in the role of Det. Bill Stork; Glenn Close replaced Sally Struthers in the role of Granny Puckett; Xzibit replaced Joel McCrary in the role of Chief Grizzly; and Chazz Palminteri replaced Tom Kenny in the role of Woolworth the Sheep. Despite these recastings, Tara Strong retained the much- smaller role of Zorra, David Ogden Stiers retained the role of Nicky Flippers, Tom Kenny retained the role of Tommy, and Tony Leech retained the role of Glen.
