33 based on growing concerns about a projected workforce decline as Baby Boomers reached retirement age, along with survey results that reflected many older people's interest in continuing to work part-time after retirement. Recognition of the many practical issues and complexities associated with phased retirement led Chen to argue for increased awareness of the need, both in the U.S. and abroad, for strategies that would create more work flexibility for workers in general—regardless of age, gender, or disability status—as a means of increasing the labor supply and promoting social cohesion via a universal policy that does not, de facto, pit one group of workers against another.

In 1939 and 1940 he served as commander-in-chief of naval forces of the West, and was known as "Admiral West". By this time, he had earned numerous medals, including the highly prestigious Legion of Honor. Nazi Germany invaded France in May 1940, and an armistice was signed in June dividing France into two sectors, an occupied zone in the north and west, and a free zone in the southeast, with a French government administered by Marshal Philippe Pétain based in Vichy. De Laborde had reached retirement age by September 1940, but after the armistice was reactivated and named leader of the Forces de Haute mer (FHM) a newly created unit, for two years.

He came from his native Nebraska by rail to Los Angeles County to assume his new position, accompanied by his wife, Luella (1913–1999), who served later as the kindergarten teacher of long standing as the school's size expanded. The initial enrollment of pupils in the school, coming in the middle of the academic year, amounted to just nine children; and Uffelman doubled as their teacher. Back in 1964 he had generated headlines in the west by identifying the then little considered mental illness which he called "KZ-Syndrom" ("Concentration Camp syndrome"). Early in 1973 Müller-Hegemann took charge of the Psychotherapy department at the Knappschafts-Krankenhaus (hospital) in Essen-Steel, in the Ruhr region of West Germany. In 1975 he reached retirement age for the hospital position: he continued to live in Essen, working as a self-employed Psychologist till 1988.

Having reached retirement age, Egan began collecting Canada Pension Plan benefits in 1986, and applied for spousal benefits for Nesbit the following year. Chew was consecrated and enthroned as the 8th Bishop of Singapore by the then Archbishop of the Province of the Anglican Church in South East Asia and the then diocesan Bishop of Sabah, The Most Reverend Datuk Yong Ping Chung on 25 April 2000 at St Andrew's Cathedral. His consecration service was attended by Dr. Tony Tan, then Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, dignitaries, bishops from the various dioceses and religious leaders from both fellow Christian denominations and non-Christian religions as well. On 5 February 2006, Chew was installed as the 3rd Archbishop of the Province of the Anglican Church in South East Asia as Datuk Yong Ping Chung, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Sabah has reached retirement age.

His strongly nationalist background made him acceptable to the new Government of the Irish Free State as a member of the new judiciary and accordingly, in 1924, he was appointed President of the High Court; in 1936, on the death of Hugh Kennedy he was appointed Chief Justice of Ireland and served until he reached retirement age in 1946. His most notable judgment was the upholding by the Supreme Court in 1940 of the Constitutionality of the Offences Against the State (Amendment) Bill which allowed for indefinite detention of suspected IRA members. An apparently casual remark of Sullivan that he was giving judgment "for the majority" caused controversy and led to the Second Amendment of the Constitution of Ireland 1941 providing for a single judgment only in such cases.

During a 2013 interview with Die Welt for the article, "Wenn große TV-Stars in die Altersarmut rutschen" ("When big TV stars slip into old age poverty"), she announced that she was involved in ligitation regarding her actor's pension. He brought an action before the referring Court, requested that this notification be declared null and void on the ground that it was in breach of his fundamental rights and, more particularly, his right not to be discriminated against on the ground of age, since the measure was based solely on the fact that he had reached the age of 65. The referring Court, inter alia, asked whether the prohibition of any discrimination based on age in employment and occupation must be interpreted as meaning that it precluded national legislation such as that in the main proceedings, pursuant to which compulsory retirement clauses contained in collective agreements were regarded as lawful, where such clauses provided as sole requirements that workers must have reached retirement age, set at 65 years by the national legislation, and must fulfil the other social security conditions for entitlement to draw a contributory retirement pension.

But by 1945 Van Rensburg lacked a doctorate, and although Van Rensburg had been given similar conditions to Geyser's, he fell out of contention as he took much longerVan Rensburg completed his dissertation only in 1958, with Geyser as his promoter, receiving final confirmation that he had obtained it cum laude in January 1959 (Oberholzer 2010).

Wolfgang Kundt, 2017 Wolfgang Kundt (born 3 June 1931 in Hamburg) is a German astrophysicist. He studied Theoretical Physics in Hamburg, centered on general relativity, and got his diploma in 1956, ph.d. in 1959, advised by Pascual Jordan. With Jürgen Ehlers and Engelbert Schücking, Kundt collaborated in a joint seminar, known as Hamburg's 'Jordan Seminar' on general relativity. In 1965, he habilitated at Hamburg on "Canonical Quantisation of gauge-invariant Field Theories",Kundt, W.: Canonical Quantization of Gauge Invariant Field Theories, SPRINGER TRACTS IN MODERN PHYSICS 40, 107-168, 1966. and was subsequently Lecturer and - since 1971 - 'Scientific Adviser and Professor' at the University of Hamburg. When Jordan had reached retirement age, in 1977, Wolfgang Priester called him to the University of Bonn, where he remained active beyond his own retirement, in 1996, until today. During his career, his scientific interests expanded to include astrophysics, geophysics, and biophysics. During the years 1969-1979, he also conducted the (passive) celestial mechanics experiment E11 of the German-American spacecraft project HELIOS, which for technical reasons had to be eventually sacrificed to the ten active experiments on board.
