He wrote and published a book in 1909 titled A Mind that Found Itself which received favorable comments from lay and professional groups. With their help, Beers organized the Connecticut Association for Mental Hygiene and the following year he led the formation of the National Committee for Mental Hygiene. The aims of the organization were to raise standards of care for the mentally ill, to study and disseminate information about the illness, to seek methods of prevention, and to foster the organization of a mental hygiene society in each state. Funds for the new organization came from private philanthropists and foundations.

In 1983, Dahl first encountered Paul Farmer, the future co-founder of PIH, as an eighteen-year-old volunteer in Haiti. Dahl has served as Executive Director of PIH from 2001-2005, and now chairs the Board of Directors, where the organisation continues to build health care systems and raise standards in global health in remote areas of the world. Since the development of PIH in 1987, the organisation has expanded its health care services around the planet. Under the leadership of Dahl, PIH is strengthening the public health system for over 800,000 people in Rwanda.

The dilemma for the club was how to raise standards without the costs of constant trips to the stronger leagues in the North of England. The club has an active development policy in the town and a number of schools and junior sides are supported by the development officer. Rugby league has a long history in Hemel schools with some of them having played it for 20 years. The new proposed school would have been a partnership between Academies Enterprise Trust and Gloucestershire County Council Malcolm Reeve on behalf of AET initially spoke of the plans for the new school to work closely with Millbrook, but AET was then banned by the Department for Education from expanding until it could raise standards in the Academies which it already had. When local residents objected to the proposed new school, AET was unavailable to comment. The headteacher up until September 2009 was Paul Elliott. He was replaced by Jan Scott, who had previously been a deputy headteacher at Merchants Academy in Bristol.

The Government introduced legislation that would tighten the rules around the behaviours of unions and their officials. The legislation, named the Ensuring Integrity Bill, would allow automatic disqualifications of "registered organisations" and grant the Federal Court the power to prevent officials from holding office in certain circumstances and broaden the court's power to order remedial action with respect to union disputes and governance. Trade union groups, Labor and the Greens opposed the bill, saying it was "contrary to international law and Australia’s commitments" and "hostile to the interests of working people". CSU plans to build a college town adjacent to downtown, including new retail, restaurants and housing to serve an increase of resident students planned to be in the thousands. Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary Excellence Cluster was a cooperative group of schools brought together under the government's Excellence in Cities initiative.DfES 1999 Excellence in Cities HMSO The purpose of the cluster was to raise standards of attainment for all children in cluster schools and to support the new Gateway school. The original schools were Chadwell St Mary Primary School, Corringham Primary School, Grays Convent, Hassenbrook School, Herringham Primary School, Jack Lobley Primary School, Landsdowne Primary School, St Chad's Comprehensive School, Torrell's Comprehensive School, Tilbury Manor Infant School, Tilbury Manor Junior School, Tilbury St Mary's RC Primary School and Woodside Primary School. Schools outside of Chadwell St Mary or Tilbury were included either to add capacity or because a large number of their children came from the area.

Ministry of Technology 1967 Vintage Mobile Cinema 2010 In the late 1960s, Tony Benn, working under Harold Wilson's Labour government, commissioned seven custom built mobile cinema units for the Ministry of Technology campaign to 'raise standards' and promote British industry. The project was short-lived and the units were sold off at government auction in 1974, most are thought to have been long since decommissioned and disappeared. However, one has survived via purchase by Sir William McAlpine to tour with the Flying Scotsman locomotive he rescued from America, and consequently donated to the Transport Trust in 1975 where it was in preservation for 15 years. It has since been through several private owners and following a full restoration is now in operation as Vintage Mobile Cinema, based in the South West of England.

From 1882 to 1892, Lieutenant- Colonel Southey was the staff officer responsible for the volunteer units in Cape Town, and from 1884 to 1890 he also commanded the city's senior regiment, the Duke of Edinburgh's Own Volunteer Rifles. From 1892 to 1902, he was Commandant of Volunteers, in charge of the volunteer forces throughout the colony. He introduced many reforms to raise standards of efficiency and training, and was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in November 1900 for his services during the Second Boer War. Southey was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in August 1901, on the occasion of the visit to the Cape of Good Hope of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary).

The AAU was founded on February 28, 1900, by a group of 14 Doctor of Philosophy degree–granting universities in the United States to strengthen and standardize American doctoral programs. American universities—starting with Johns Hopkins University in 1876—were adopting the research-intensive German model of higher education. Lack of standardization damaged European universities' opinions of their American counterparts, however, and many American students attended graduate school in Europe instead of staying in the U.S. The presidents of Harvard University, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Chicago, and University of California sent a letter of invitation to eight other universities—Clark University, Cornell University, University of Michigan, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, Leland Stanford Junior University, University of Wisconsin, and Yale University—to meet in Chicago in February 1900 to promote and raise standards."The Letter of Invitation to the Founding Conference of AAU".

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) was founded in 2011 by lead charity The Sutton Trust, in partnership with Impetus Trust (now part of Impetus–Private Equity Foundation), with a £125 million founding grant from the Department for Education. The EEF was initiated in November 2010, when the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, announced plans to establish an education endowment foundation intended to help raise standards in challenging schools, inspired by the Obama administration's Race to the Top initiative in the USA. The EEF was formally launched in July 2011, with Chairman Sir Peter Lampl declaring its aim would be to ‘develop initiatives to raise the attainment of the poorest pupils in the most challenging schools’. The EEF took over from the Sutton Trust the development of the Teaching and Learning Toolkit, and Sir Kevan Collins, former Chief Executive of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, was appointed the EEF's first chief executive.

The National Strategies were professional programmes aiming for improvements in the quality of learning and teaching in schools in England, delivered on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The National Strategies were first introduced in 1998 and were a key national delivery vehicle for many new and existing government learning priorities. The programmes provided a mix of resources and services that supported improvements in the quality of learning and teaching in schools, colleges and early years settings. A key aim of The National Strategies was to help these educational settings raise children's standards of attainment and improve their life chances. The National Strategies mission was “To raise standards of achievement and rates of progression for children and young people in all phases and settings through personalised learning with a particular focus on the core subjects and early years”. The National Strategies web area, which was closed in 2011, was recognised by the Web Marketing Association Awards as ‘outstanding’ in the categories ‘Best Government Website’ and ‘Best Education Website’.

In 2002, NTI provided the additional $5 million of private money needed (combined with $3 million from the US government) to safely move 48 kg of highly enriched uranium (enough for two nuclear weapons) from the defunct Vinča nuclear reactor near Belgrade to a facility in the Russian Federation to be blended down for use as a conventional nuclear fuel. In 2008, NTI helped create the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS), in Vienna, as part of its focus to secure nuclear materials worldwide. UN Security Council Resolution 1887 supported the WINS mission, calling for states to “share best practices with a view to improved safety standards and nuclear security practices and raise standards of nuclear security to reduce the risk of nuclear terrorism.” Today, the organization has more than 3,800 members from 118 countries. The Economist wrote, “WINS is a place where, for the first time, those with the practical responsibility for looking after nuclear materials—governments, power plant operators, laboratories, universities—can meet to swap ideas and develop best practices.” In early 2018, NTI received a $6 million grant from the Open Philanthropy Project.

The Charter School was born out of a need of the local community for the government to provide a good state secondary school in the Dulwich area, due in part to the high concentration of private schools in the area (James Allen's Girls' School, or JAGS; Alleyns; and Dulwich College).. The name of the school was taken from the "Parents Charter" introduced by the Government in 1991 to extend parental choice and raise standards. The school was then opened in September 2000 by the first headteacher of the school, Pam Bowmaker OBE, who welcomed the first 180 students to join the school in Year 7. Pam Bowmaker was asked to be the first headteacher due to her outstanding work in other schools. She retired as a headteacher in July 2005 when the school had received its first set of GCSE results, and was succeeded by Chris Bowler in September 2005 (who then led the school to an Outstanding grading in its 2007 Ofsted inspection), before being replaced by former Deputy Headteacher David Sheppard (who was well respected by parents and pupils) in September 2008.
