However, he is also well remembered for allegedly "putting a curse" on the Blackhawks, which stipulated that the team would never finish in first in the NHL. The Blackhawks never had a first-place finish until 40 years after that incident.

This curse is interpreted as a reference to the following legend: Once, when the gods Brahma and Vishnu were fighting over who was superior, a fiery pillar—linga (symbol of Shiva)—emerged before them. It was that decided whoever found the end of this pillar was superior. Brahma flew to the skies to try to find the top of the pillar, but failed. So Brahma forced Surabhi (in some versions, Surabhi instead suggested that Brahma should lie) to falsely testify to Vishnu that Brahma had seen the top of the linga; Shiva punished Surabhi by putting a curse on her so that her bovine offspring would have to eat unholy substances.

Linton Muldoon Treacy (June 4, 1887 - March 13, 1929), better known as Pete Muldoon, was a Canadian ice hockey coach and pioneer in the western United States, particularly known for bringing a Stanley Cup championship to Seattle, Washington. He is best known for reportedly putting a curse on the Chicago Black Hawks, as well as team owner Major Frederic McLaughlin, after he was fired at the end of the 1926-27 season. Journalist Jim Coleman admitted to inventing the "curse" due to a bout of writer's block in 1943, and needing to meet a publishing deadline. Muldoon was the Black Hawks' first head coach.

The Ice Dream with Roy and HG was a sports/comedy talk show, broadcast every night during the Salt Lake 2002, presented by Australian comedy duo Roy and HG. Targets of humour during the coverage of the 2002 Winter Olympics included figure skating, curling, Monaco's bobsleigh team (especially Albert II, Prince of Monaco). They promoted the Smiggin Holes 2010 Winter Olympic bid, even presenting it to IOC president Jacques Rogge, who described it as "very impressive". According to The Ice Dream, during the 1952 Olympics, Cedric Sloane skewered a seagull during a cross-country skiing event, putting a curse on the Australian team that could only be lifted when Australia won a gold medal (achieved by Steven Bradbury).

At the same time, he starts falling for his best friend Jigs, who eventually tries to seduce him but refuses to continue after learning that most of the gay men he had affairs with were murdered. Remington realizes how he is starting to lose himself and starts consulting his gay helper Georgia (Nar Cabico) on what to do. After briefly consulting an albularyo (Marian Rivera), Remington, Hannah and Jigs track down Pops, the mysterious drag queen who cursed him during his youth and discover his mansion. The aged Pops initially denied putting a curse on Remington and attempted to have his pager boy shoo the trio away until Remington sees a portrait of the gay man in his house and starts calling Pops "Bakla!" to make him remember.
