Moses Proser was born at Keidan, near Kovno, where he received a traditional Hebrew education and studied Talmud in various yeshivot. In 1858 he went to Vilna and prepared to enter the Vilna Rabbinical School, but owing to his father's opposition and to his own poor health he was compelled to return home. In 1863 Proser went to Kovno, where he became private Hebrew instructor, and where he made the acquaintance of Abraham Mapu.

Jules Podell (died 1973) was a former nightclub operator who ran the Copacabana nightclub in New York City. Although it was opened in 1940 by Monte Proser, Podell was put in place by mob boss Frank Costello, Proser's partner. By 1950 Podell was making all the decisions and Proser was gone. Podell ran the club until he died in 1973.

Proser began his literary career with contributions to Ha-Melitz, published under the pen names Ezra mi-Har Shafer (), Ben Amram ha-Prazi (), Ani ha-Gever (), and Ha-Ran (). In 1870 he went to St. Petersburg and became instructor in the orphanage founded by Baroness A. G. Günzburg, the wife of Baron Horace Günzburg. When Ha-Melitz was established in St. Petersburg in 1871, Proser was appointed editor of the department Be-Artzenu.

He mixed potent rum cocktails at both of these tropically decorated locations, which he referred to as "Rhum Rhapsodies". One of the first such cocktails he invented was the Sumatra Kula. The rum-laden and potent Zombie cocktail may be his best known cocktail; it quickly grew in popularity and a copy of it was served at the 1939 New York World's Fair by Monte Proser (later of the mob- tied Copacabana). Proser continued to steal Beach's ideas, opening "Beachcomber" restaurants on the east coast.

According to a news in The Hollywood Reporter (June 1944), independent producer Jack H. Skirball was originally set to make the picture, with assistance from Proser. At that same time, George Raft was announced as the film's possible lead. The film had its origins when United Artists suggested to Sam Coslow that the studio could use a musical picture to balance its releasing program. Coslow discussed the matter with George Frank, Carmen Miranda's manager and Monty Proser and Walter Bachelor, managers of the famous New York nightclub, the Copacabana, which was located at 10 East 60th St. They decided to combine Miranda with the Copacabana.

However, by 1948, such pressure had lessened; Proser was out, and Podell was the official owner. The Copacabana had Brazilian decor and Latin-themed orchestras, while the menu featured Chinese food. The opening night raised $20,000 for March of Dimes ($ in dollars) . She received $25,000 per week for her performance as Trixie Divoon in the show ($ in dollars), while her contract with 20th Century Fox was paying her $2,500 per week ($ in dollars). She had a million-dollar policy with Lloyd's of London in case Hargitay dropped her as he whirled her around for the show.

Tiki bars began to become popular in the 1930s and then became a prominent part of the 1940s and 60s cocktail culture. Sacramento had a number of these Polynesian-themed establishments until the fad faded and all eventually closed. The financial crisis of the Great Depression caused a need for escapism that allowed the tiki culture to provide an ease for California customers. In the early 1930s tiki pioneer Donn Beach created the Zombie cocktail in California, which became famous on the East coast when Monte Proser sold the drink at his bar during the 1939 World's Fair.

Many involved with High Button Shoes were Broadway first-timers or relatively unknown, except for the director, George Abbott. The creative team, composer Jule Styne, lyricist Sammy Cahn and writer Stephen Longstreet had worked in Hollywood, as had the producers Monte Proser and Joseph Kipness (who had also produced several short-lived Broadway shows) and actors Phil Silvers, who was known for his on-screen con-man persona, and Nanette Fabray. The designers Oliver Smith and Miles White and choreographer Jerome Robbins were all Broadway veterans. Rumors circulated that the book by Longstreet was "hopeless" and that Abbott and Silvers were "heavily rewriting" it.

Questions about periphery and centre (Arlt 1975) may be answered by the research of political and church history relative to Cluny (Huglo 1982, Gillingham 2006). In contrast to Fuller's study, James Grier's recent examination of earlier monophonic Proser-Sequentiaries suggests that they were created in the scriptorium of the Abbey Saint-Martial 100 years earlier (than the fore- mentioned fragments including polyphonic compositions), explicitly for liturgical use at Limoges, by Roger and Adémar de Chabannes.James Grier (1995). The concept of a local school of cantors who documented their innovations in newly designed liturgical books with the libellum structure—later imitated elsewhere (even in the Parisian Magnus liber organi)—is therefore still credible; at least for the 11th century.

Although Monte Proser's name was on the lease, he had a powerful partner: mob boss Frank Costello. Proser (1904–1973), a native Englishman, was a well-connected nightclub owner and press agent whose various clients included Walt Disney, Maria Montez, Mary Pickford, and the Ziegfeld Follies. Costello put Jules Podell on the scene to look after his interests; Podell had a police record and would not have been an acceptable front man for the business, and indeed, the club faced tax problems and a racketeering investigation in 1944.

The «Bibliothèque interuniversitaire de Médecin» still conserves the only manuscript with alphabetic notation which can be dated back to William's time. Thanks to the creative and innovative achievements of William as a cantor, reformer and architect, the local monasteries which he reformed, did not simply adapt to customs of the Cluniac reform, he contributed to the history of Norman chant his own local school which was as well inspired by elements of the local Norman tradition as by innovations of the Cluniac reform.
